Cool, now as your all 4th rank you can roll on the NPC Weapons and Equipment table for your appropriate Profession.

We'll be stealing....well....lots of stuff from Bonivants game. :D

So character sheet layouts will be as they are over there. Just chage Piety to Faith to reflect what religion your PC follows.

Just rolled health points, see above.  I can't modify my sheet apparently.

Once I've done the 1st rank character, maybe we can modify it to 4th rank.

I don't mind if the GM rolls for me in all circumstances.  You wanna' do my equipment rolls?

Looks good...not sure about the hat. :D

So what brings Kores to Glissom? Chasing stories of a demon or the Albish church decided that he was one of those he is sworn to fight? Or something else?

Arrived by ship or overland from Ereworn/over the Pagans from Thuland?

Knaves are for want of a better term 'social assasins' think Chaucer, most of the ' plucky lad' heroes of Grimms Tales, shysters, spies and courtiers.

Modern Examples are folks like Nate and Sophie from Leverage, George Smiley or even the various Blackadders of history.:D

Discussion of mechanics will need to go to PMs.

Edit: First set of rolls was 3 below average stats so rolling again.

2,1,2,= 5
1,4,6,= 11
5,6,4,= 15
2,6,3,= 11
6,2,2= 10

Possibly the worlds weakest barbarian or maybe he's missing an arm? :)

Thanks I found how to edit my character sheet.

About characteristics scores, do I have to use the ones you wrote above? If yes, do I have to use them in order?

07:59, Today: AnotherTBA rolled 9 using 3d6. Intelligence roll.

Habit for me.  Is that 10 points after levelling up to fourth level?  I think most of us here have some pretty average stats from using the straight 3d6 rule.  Feels more Dragon Warriors-y in a way.  And gives a good excuse to explain away why a character is like they are.

Barbarians of Glissom are Reivers; think Highland Clans crossed with dry land pirates.

The well known ones can get away with a single name for instance Conn, King of the Reivers was once Conn of Clan Gar. Now he's just Conn, and everyone knows who your referring to.

Other less well known are differentiated by honorifics eg. Rotho Redhand, Grom Splitface, Dougal Ruddycheeks.

The Majority are <Name> of Clan <Clan Name>.

Connor of Clan Cladd, Dram of Clan Willach etc.

Pretty much anything beyond the Shadowspin is 'Wild'.

Ok, so the dice gave me 3 additional languages at a fluent level, plus another one at basic level. I guess Visic is the native language of Dann. That might be a little over the top for a Barbarian, but could also hint a few things about his background. What are your thoughts on which additional language a Barbarian from Glissom might know? I would go for the following list at first thought:
  • Visic (native)
  • Elleslandic (fluent)
  • Mercanian (fluent)
  • Beaulangue (fluent)
  • Cabbandari (basic)

Pretty Much this.^

Visic, Elleslandic, Mercanian for sure.

The rest depend on what he's been up to.

Re: Character Creation Thread.

Okay, in light of the background description of Glissom in 'Prince of Darkness', what about the following back story for Dann:

  • He originates from one of the smaller villages from the Fief.
  • An inordinately violent raid from the borderer clan Valin left his parents dead, and he was adopted by one of the clan's family. He was still very young.
  • The Valin clan is primarily a pirate clan, engaged in raiding coastal villages or towns with boats. Dann was trained in that tradition.
  • The Valin clan became close to Rotho Redhand, and participated to more and more long distance raids: up to the Mercanian coast, Beauland, and other Elleslandic countries. He learned the languages of these countries through his travels, and while engaging with some of the hostages they made along the way.
  • Maybe sensing some kind of challenge to his authority, Conn the King of Reivers decided to crush the Valin clan with all his might. Few survived, but Dann did. His adoptive parents lifted the secret of his birth just before he could flee.
  • Dann is now heading for the City of Glissom, a lone barbarian carrying a huge feud for Conn, some awe at Rotho (even though he is not in complete agreement with her ways), and the huge burden of having lost his family twice.

Please tell me if any of this is inconsistent with the source material or the story at hand. Or if you have suggestions on how to make it better...

You are rolling on the 4th Rank Barbarian row I presume.

Roll d100. 8% chance of Magic Armour.  If so roll d100 on Armour Table p138, then d100 on the Bonus Table beneath.

Roll d100. 20% chance of d2 Magic Weapons. If so d2 for number of Weapons, then d100 on Weapons Table p137,
and then d100 on the Bonus Table beneath PER Weapon.  I rolled a +3 Sword for Finan!!!

NO chance of Scrolls.

Roll d100. 25% chance of d3 Potions.  If so roll d3 for number of Potions, then roll d100 on Potion Tables p139 PER Potion.

Roll d100. 3% chance of d2 Amulets.  If so roll d2 for number of Amulets, then roll d100 on Amulet Table p141 PER Amulet.

Roll d100. 3% chance of d3 Rings.  If so roll d3 for number of Amulets, then roll d100 on Rings Table p144 PER Ring.

Roll 3d100 Florins, with which you can but extra kit with GM's approval.

Hope this helps

Re: Character Creation Thread.

So the dice have spoken: Dann inherits a +1 sword and a +3 shield from his adoptive father of clan Valin. When Conn attacked the clan, his father asked Dann to take the weapons for the fight. He could defend the house and survive, but his parents were not as lucky. When all was lost, Dann's father urged his adoptive son to flee after revealing the secret of his birth, while life was escaping him from a mortal wound. Shocked by seeing his entire world being literally shredded to pieces, Dann jumped on the first horse he could find and made it run as fast as it could.

The weapons are the only items he keeps from his past.

WOW! Good Rolls!

Anything +3 is considered an artefact, extremely rare and easily identifiable by experts in the field.  Presumably the shield bears your family arms (birth or adoptive?).  This means if you carry it in public any of your enemies can identify you at 30 yards.

Re: Character Creation Thread.

Well, my first thought was to make the shield (and sword) part of a loot gained by Dann's father, but if it does not fit well with the rules / context, this can be changed. I am not sure if reiver (and borderer) clans realistically have skilled enough characters to produce these kind of items though...

The items could well be Selentine, Gliss or even Fomorian in origin if you wish.

The Reavers of old had some powerful druids and wisemen among them they are certainly capable of forging mighty artifacts such as these.

As a note you mob are now the most artifact heavy group I've ever run.....this will be fun.:)

Ok, I bought equipment and made my character progress to rank 4. I still have a substantial amount of florins, but it is probably better to keep them for now. Dann's backstory implies that he has a mount, but it is okay to consider that he lost or sold it in his flight.

If my character sheet is acceptable, I think I am all set to actually enter the game!

Ok, you rolled well enough to get a +2 shortsword. As those are not exactly common in the region lets say its an heirloom handed down from when your great-great-great grandpa killed some Selentine Centurion officer type. :)

Add 23 to your cash.

Literate in Nikkar Runic. Someone made sure you could read.

A roll of 95 gives a background of 'charcoal burner' which is interesting as they're pretty much the 'hillbillies' of the region. Weird backwoods folk with strange beliefs and pretty much shunned by the rest of society.

Could have been a high family in a Clan that lost its lands a few generations back, the old folks would still have their reading and writing skills.  Maybe you seemed smarter than the other kids and one of them decided to teach you in hope you'd make something of yourself?

Hiya all, and first attempt at a PC on new dice roller, 5 x 3d6 for Stats...

9 7 8 8 10

I suspect it hates me.
Oh well, I think I can just scrape a Sorcerer out of that lot, but they be pretty naff, and I'd be willing to give it another try if permitted.

Well, on the offchance it was a total scrap and start again?
The second batch of rolls are a vast improvement...

9 15 9 10 7

If it's just one reroll, I'll replace the 7 from the first batch with the 15 from this batch.

And thanks for the welcome too. :)

So if I need a Sorcerer:

15 to Int, 10 to Psy Tal, 9 in Ref and Str and 7 in Looks.
Ok so she's smart, but painfully plain of face and speech...

Speaking of pruning, after taking a look at the other PCs, I assume this is one of those roll in order for stats PC generation games?

Yeah, you'd think a Knight with Looks 18 would have woken me up to that fact earlier. Too much home made mead and not enough coffee yesterday...

OK, sorry, old game habits die hard, and my brain keeps reverting to High School House Rules for DW Chargen. Have loaded up the new version PDFs to to new machine as well, so I may actually have all my ducks in a row this morning.

Returns batch#2 Stat Rolls to Original Order: 09 15 09 10 07

Strength:09 Reflexes:15 Intelligence:09 Psychic Talent:10 Looks:07

Well, that's still a Sorcerer on the numbers, but she'd almost qualify for an Assassin.
Only fancy profession add on she qualifies for is Hedge Wizard, but that does have a few useful options for skills.

Is it a case of GM picks spells or roll randomly with Hedge Wizards for this game then?

No need for the inverted commas around Actress.
That particular genre of entertainment media probably requires more acting than most varieties of roles available to women in Hollywood, as it takes more raw talent to sell "Oh it's sooo big..." convincingly on screen than you might think.

I'm half tempted to adapt one of her quotes for Caith though, so thanks for the link!

Instead of "I was popular. I was Prom Queen and almost Homecoming Queen. I should've gone to college."

Adapted to "Ah wa' bonny set. Ah wa' Queen'o'May an' almost Witch Queen o're ull Glissom. Ah shuda gone te coven."

Re: Character Creation Thread.

And now, a pile of sundry rolls for Caith's Loot:
Magic Armour: Nope!
Magic Weapons: Nope!
Spell Scrolls: 21 on the dice, so Yes, and 2 on the 1d4 for number of Scrolls!
Magic Potions: Nope!
Amulets & Talismans: 04 on the dice, so Yes, and 2 on the 1d2 for number of A&T!
Magic Rings: Nope!
Cash in Florins 3d100Roll: 99+79+48 on the dice is Total of 226 Silver Florins

And now the fun bit, what are the Spells on the Scrolls, and what's the Magical Bling?

Scroll#1: 46 on 1d100 and 6 on 1d6 so 5th Rank, TRANSFIX
Scroll#2: 30 on 1d100 and 2 on 1d6 so 4th Rank, CURSE

Amulet#1: 97 on 1d100 and oh bugger, that's not good...
Do I roll the rest of Amulet#1 or is that GM's job as to it being a haunted rock or not?

Amulet#2: 26 on 1d100 so Abraxus Stone.
That would partly explain her surviving horrific wounds in the past.

"Wluf tried ta' eat ma face. Same wulf wa' a fine brekfa tho, anna gud cloak inta' tha' bargain..."

And on that subject: Health Points 1d6 for Sorcerers result of 3.
Right I think that's most of the rolls except for Language stuff so nearly done! :)

Re: Character Creation Thread.

Already grabbed the two-potions-from-master, both Healing. :)

And I'm quite serious about wanting to know what the odds on getting spells as a Hedge-Wizard are, as it's an interesting option, but not getting Healing spells is a hell of a gamble. I suppose I could always trade in the spell scrolls for the right spells from a certain semi-retired chap in unusual headwear if it comes to that, and there's always the Herbalism Skill as more Healing backup...

However I can't find description for the Forage Skill anywhere, something I suspect is required for the way Hedge-Wizards do Alchemy and Herbalism and I've checked both the new 6in1 handbook and Cadaver Draconis.

Need some kind of Skill to get away with plant dyes to hide that Clan Cernach flaming red hair black, as she doesn't have any disguise skill.

Done the languages stuff too, rolls are in the dice log.
If anyone here doesn't speak Vasic, there may be problems in party communications, because her only other languages are Arcane, Ancient Emphidian and Old Kurlish...

Also, having skim-read through the two Southern Pagan IC threads, you lot certainly kick arse in combat. :)

Forage is in the Players Guide.

Forage
The Hunter is an expert at finding sustenance in the
wilderness. The Hunter must make a Perception roll,
and beat a difficulty number assigned by the GM.
Then the GM rolls an appropriate die to determine
how long the Hunter takes in finding the food and
water. The three basic levels of foraging ability by
any terrain are:

Type TN Time
Fecund 10 1d3
Fertile 14 1d3+3
Desolate 18 1d3+6

The result of the die roll indicates how many hours
it takes for the Hunter to find a day’s food and water
for a number of people equal to half the Hunter’s
Rank. If the Hunter is in his Favoured Terrain (see
above) he may add +2 to his Perception for purposes of making the foraging roll.

Re spells. If you want you can just take the Healing Spells you want and the roll for the rest. :)

WELCOME! Welcome to a NEW Player! (One of Karl's crew?) and Welcome to a new member of Clan Cernach!  My plan for global domination is building momentum *mu-ha-ha-ha*

I LOVE the idea of Hedge Wizard!  Removes the need of a 'school of magic' or even a mentor - just free stylin'!

We REALLY need so me healing spells.  I'm sure the GM would allow to to pick some and roll for some?  I'd recommend taking Bedevil, Udjat and Lugh's Spear when you can.

Bedevil
Profession and Rank:
Sorcerer 1
Range:  10m
Duration:  Permanent
Origin:  Algandy
Rarity:  Common throughout Legend
Description:  The Sorcerer casts this spell on a single tool, weapon, or implement.  The target can be no larger than a small cart or plough. The spell causes the item to attempt to thwart any action a user tries to undertake with it.  For example, a compass will give false readings, a hammer might strike a thumb, and a saddle might become undone. The spell rarely causes serious injuries but, for example, using a  bedevilled rope to climb a mountain can be suicidal.  The  spell  remains  until  the  Sorcerer removes the spell or a Dispel Magic spell is cast on the item. Any Sorcerer who knows this spell can cast a “counter curse” on a bedevilled item.

Udjat
Profession and Rank: Sorcerer 4
Range:  Self
Duration:  Spell Expiry Roll
Origin:  Kaikuhuru
Rarity:  Rare everywhere due to its obviously pagan effect.
Description:   Upon casting this spell, a golden, glowing, eye-shaped glyph appears on the Sorcerer’s forehead.  The spell increases the Sorcerer’s Psychic Talent and Intelligence to 16 or raises a score of 16-17 to 18.  The Sorcerer gains all the associated bonuses for having these characteristics.

Lugh’s Spear
Profession and Rank:  Sorcerer 5
Range:  2m
Duration:  Spell Expiry Roll
Origin:  Ellesland/Mungoda
Rarity:   Uncommon  in  Ellesland  and  Mungoda,  rare elsewhere
Description:  This spell summons forth a spear of white ash with a copper head. Eldritch fire dances around the spear’s tip. The spear hovers beside and moves with  the caster, automatically attacking any being within 2 meters, friend or foe. The spear can make one attack  er round with an Attack of 22 (d8, 5).  The spear counts as  a magical weapon.  If the spear is struck in combat, (Defence 23) it vanishes immediately.  This spell was common among the early tribes of Albion but fell out of  common use as most of Albion’s native Sorcerers died on the end of a legionnaire’s sword. In a strange case of parallel development this spell has  been  seen  among  witchdoctors in Mungoda, where it is known as Ghost Assegai.

To be fair, as they say in the classics:
"You always were an asshole, Gorman..." - Vasquez
But then, Gorman knew he was holding a grenade at the time.

Trust me, there are worse ways to die, and the finality of death in a world with magic running around is highly debatable.

And I say that as some one who once played in a DW party that carried a pickled PC's corpse around for two weeks in game while the Sorcerer stabbed everything in sight to make it to 10th Rank just for the snarky joy of saying "Get up, you lazy bastard, you're not dead..." to a live PC.

I can see how Bedevil is useful to know as a counter measure, even without the more interesting applications that spring to mind. It also suits the character's personality far too well...

Udjat is not subtle, but it is indeed handy. Just being really smart for a little while to justify having a bright idea IC for an average brain PC is as useful the stat bonuses for magic combat stuff.

The only problem I can see with Lugh's Spear is that it's not particularly party friendly, unless you count 'friendly fire' as 'friendly'. It's a great 'GETHAFUKAWAYFROME!!!' panic button spell for lone sorcerers expecting ambush though.

I quite enjoy sneak and stab PCs as a player, but I don't mind less subtle forms of disposing of obstacles either, as I couldn't really define magic an entirely subtle weapon, depending on the spell in question.

I've just about finished the sheet for Caith, spells all sorted out now but, predictably, I do have one last question...

As she's got the cash to do so, is it worth the cost of buying a riding horse/pony for Caith?

I don't want to slow the rest of the party down if this is a mounted group with war horses and riding horses already charging around the countryside.

We DO have a wagon pulled by an Ox actually. That’s how we transported all of the black armor to Hewell. We just left it in Hewell because we borrowed horses and needed to move quickly.

As for speed, I’m pretty sure Hewell expects any survibing horses back when we return, so I think we’ll still just have Chlainn mounted and an ox cart for loot.

Caith would nod in approval at Chlainn for having the wits to know what to do with such dire concoctions as Turnip Wine, and write 'Medicinal Use Only!' on the cask... :)

I'll go peruse the drinks section of the equipment list then, now I understand the party's priorities: Get Drunk, Get Rich, and Get To Glissom, in roughly that order.

BTW, I know the PC picture is probably a bit too pretty for Caith, but it's the closest one I could find to a female spellcaster in the lot that looked even vaguely like she'd had part of her face chewed off and hidden behind the messy fringe.

The black dyed hair is more disguise than vanity, as her usual particular shade of blazing red hair is likely to be a clan trait, and one best concealed close to home.

It does have exactly the right facial expression for Caith though, so close enough.

She's basically the younger shortarse female version of The Soothsayer out of Asterix & Obelix as far as her wardrobe choices go.

However, she is quite sure she's not a werewolf, and will seriously consider stabbing people who ask that question of her. The cloak is really a warning to the next wolf that tries to bite her as what to expect in response.

If its booze you're after, you can get a bottle of Thulanch (Whiskey)
Cheap blend = 1F, Good Blend = 10F, Single Malt = 50F, Matured Sinlge Malt = 100F.

Working on a description now...

Caith can afford a bottle of the Single Malt, or half a dozen of the Good Blend stuff.

And she paid double cost for a Padded Armour Coat, and hunted her own wolf skins already. The one that makes up the hood has a human shaped bite mark out of one ear...

I haven't read up on Familiars yet, but if they're useful I'd consider one. Owl more use than a hawk though, particularly at night, or even underground.

Sixty bottles of the cheap stuff and Caith will be too drunk to walk down the road, let alone cast spells...

That and she'd have spent the money to buy a mule to carry that many bottles on the bottles so that plan don't work either.

Small problem of having a Familiar is non-compatible career choices as a requirement.
Reckon Caith will be better off staying a Hedge-Wizard and sticking to summoning minor gods than the likes of Familiars as laid out in the book.

Besides, she'd rather take her chances haggling over live mice with Pangbur Ban for favors than trying her luck with that big demon wolf fella with the rest of the PC as the mice...

No using poison though, or she'd be breaking Healer's Oath, so she's still not an assassin technically. It's the little differences that count for everything as far as she's concerned.

Hi guys,

Another new player here (although long term DW player) looking to join.

I'm looking at either an Albish born Knight, son of minor, minor gentry, embarked on a life of adventure in an effort to keep the family from becoming minor, minor, minor gentry, or even worse... not. Or an Albish sorceress, born in Ongus, who had to leave following a brush with the law, unable to return home until the seven year statute of limitations runs out without risking having her neck stretched, and never really having planned for any sort of hardship in her life.

Which would be most useful to the group?

Haha welcome welcome!

I like either. The more Albish born party members the better. A legitimate albish knight might bring up interesting back story stuff for Usopi. And an Albish sorceress would make for a potentially cool juxtaposition with Caith and Lann.

As for which career we’re missing... I guess a knight would fill the hole of the player we just lost too “getting eaten alive by trolls”, but I don’t know if we particularly NEED one over the other, and I’m not sure what characters the other new players are making.

Edit - but GM says there’s a count limit on magic types, so i guess knight. :D

Esit 2 - you replied before me, but I wrote this whole thing, so I’m leaving it here.
