Yeah, I guess I could come up with a name akin to <Name> of <City/Region>. That would fit a barbarian quite well actually... Where would a barbarian of Glissom come from? The wild areas probably?

Barbarians of Glissom are Reivers; think Highland Clans crossed with dry land pirates.

The well known ones can get away with a single name for instance Conn, King of the Reivers was once Conn of Clan Gar. Now he's just Conn, and everyone knows who your referring to.

Other less well known are differentiated by honorifics eg. Rotho Redhand, Grom Splitface, Dougal Ruddycheeks.

The Majority are <Name> of Clan <Clan Name>.

Connor of Clan Cladd, Dram of Clan Willach etc.

Pretty much anything beyond the Shadowspin is 'Wild'.

Ok then I will go for 'Dann of clan Valin'. I will work for a background story from there.

Re: Character Creation Thread.

Ok, so the dice gave me 3 additional languages at a fluent level, plus another one at basic level. I guess Visic is the native language of Dann. That might be a little over the top for a Barbarian, but could also hint a few things about his background. What are your thoughts on which additional language a Barbarian from Glissom might know? I would go for the following list at first thought:
  • Visic (native)
  • Elleslandic (fluent)
  • Mercanian (fluent)
  • Beaulangue (fluent)
  • Cabbandari (basic)

Re: Character Creation Thread.

Barbarians get a high chance of multi linguistics as is it inferred they are well travelled mercenaries and the like.

Think about his backstory, where he has been, who he has fought with/against etc.
Elleslandic and Mercanian are always a shoe-ins for me.  The rest is only limyed by your backstory.

Pretty Much this.^

Visic, Elleslandic, Mercanian for sure.

The rest depend on what he's been up to.

I'll have a bit more of a think when I get home and see if there are some more 'unusual' local options for him. :)

Re: Character Creation Thread.

Okay, in light of the background description of Glissom in 'Prince of Darkness', what about the following back story for Dann:

  • He originates from one of the smaller villages from the Fief.
  • An inordinately violent raid from the borderer clan Valin left his parents dead, and he was adopted by one of the clan's family. He was still very young.
  • The Valin clan is primarily a pirate clan, engaged in raiding coastal villages or towns with boats. Dann was trained in that tradition.
  • The Valin clan became close to Rotho Redhand, and participated to more and more long distance raids: up to the Mercanian coast, Beauland, and other Elleslandic countries. He learned the languages of these countries through his travels, and while engaging with some of the hostages they made along the way.
  • Maybe sensing some kind of challenge to his authority, Conn the King of Reivers decided to crush the Valin clan with all his might. Few survived, but Dann did. His adoptive parents lifted the secret of his birth just before he could flee.
  • Dann is now heading for the City of Glissom, a lone barbarian carrying a huge feud for Conn, some awe at Rotho (even though he is not in complete agreement with her ways), and the huge burden of having lost his family twice.

Please tell me if any of this is inconsistent with the source material or the story at hand. Or if you have suggestions on how to make it better...

Love it. :)

Now you just need to roll for the booty you picked up while reiving. :)

I suggest our Wagadoui throws something non-lethal at the bloodnut.

Also I forgot to say before but I'll need a back story for the bow. :)

Maybe you could steal a loaf of bread.  The authorities will try to kill you and we will save your life!  After that we will all have a price on our heads!  What better than the usual 'meet up in a tavern' routine...

I am trying to make sense of 'NPC weapons & equipments table' page 133 of the rules (is that the one you were referring to?), but cannot wrap my head around it. Maybe it will be quicker if you roll for me instead?

Re: Character Creation Thread.

You are rolling on the 4th Rank Barbarian row I presume.

Roll d100. 8% chance of Magic Armour.  If so roll d100 on Armour Table p138, then d100 on the Bonus Table beneath.

Roll d100. 20% chance of d2 Magic Weapons. If so d2 for number of Weapons, then d100 on Weapons Table p137,
and then d100 on the Bonus Table beneath PER Weapon.  I rolled a +3 Sword for Finan!!!

NO chance of Scrolls.

Roll d100. 25% chance of d3 Potions.  If so roll d3 for number of Potions, then roll d100 on Potion Tables p139 PER Potion.

Roll d100. 3% chance of d2 Amulets.  If so roll d2 for number of Amulets, then roll d100 on Amulet Table p141 PER Amulet.

Roll d100. 3% chance of d3 Rings.  If so roll d3 for number of Amulets, then roll d100 on Rings Table p144 PER Ring.

Roll 3d100 Florins, with which you can but extra kit with GM's approval.

Hope this helps

Well, that means that I might very well roll... nothing at all (except for the extra money). Is that a correct assumption?

Yep!  I was extremely lucky to get anything, then maxed-out HERO style!

Extra money mean you can pretty much start with any mundane equipment, clothes and such you want.

<BLINK, BLINK> I don't understand...  you have a percentage chance of 11 Enchanted Items and 300 Florins.

Now get rolling!

Re: Character Creation Thread.

So the dice have spoken: Dann inherits a +1 sword and a +3 shield from his adoptive father of clan Valin. When Conn attacked the clan, his father asked Dann to take the weapons for the fight. He could defend the house and survive, but his parents were not as lucky. When all was lost, Dann's father urged his adoptive son to flee after revealing the secret of his birth, while life was escaping him from a mortal wound. Shocked by seeing his entire world being literally shredded to pieces, Dann jumped on the first horse he could find and made it run as fast as it could.

The weapons are the only items he keeps from his past.

Re: Character Creation Thread.

Should I consider the standard starting equipment for barbarians, or should I start from scratch and buy all items from the table page 134?
