Episode 7: Rifts
Operation Take-Back is over, Rylis Jericho and his private army won. Hundreds of mutants were rescued from horrific cruelty. The Exchange was dealt a major blow. Men who thought themselves nothing but killers rose up to answer a call, a crusade for justice and maybe even redemption.

Yet the victory is not complete. Of the 13 Labs, assaults on labs 2,3,4,6,7,11, and 12 were within what was considered to have gone 'smoothly'. The assault team 1 and 5 lost contact, presumed dead. Assault teams 8 and 9 were caught in a fire fight losing half their men before they could breach the Lab's Cells. Over half of the capture mutants from those labs were killed by the explosives rigged to those bases. Lab 10 saved most of their mutants, but every last squad member was killed in the process. The Assault on lab 13, was posed to fail as spectacularly as the worst of them. Unexpectedly, nearly a hundred gun men came to the lab during the operation. It was thanks to the actions of the mutants attached to the assault team that it was counted among the successes. 46 Hunters lost their lives chasing redemption. The number of mutants murdered by the Exchange is a number that may never truly be known.

Worse yet the fragile alliance of old enemies made into new friends bare some cracks just underneath the surface. Dean Elsa Reign was rumored to have returned while the operation was being executed, enraged at something. Rylis Jericho's won the day, but his orders of no prisoners hint that he may fall into the same evils that spawned the worst crimes of the Gene-War. And while he may call what he did a win, the MHA does not appreciate that a lone Hunter raised an army in the shadows to strike at an enemy in the United States in what was the largest covert assault mission since the Gene-War.

For now, the armored convoy returns Hunters and Mutants to Reign Academy. Tired and weary, the travels return from the Alamo Camp in the Red Basin Desert...

Episode 7: Rifts
Jon had been more heavily injured than he had let on; most of it remaining from his initial capture, having never been properly treated.  Despite his bravado, he had spent most of the rest of the time until arriving at the campus quietly recovering.

Upon his arrival however, he decided to make his first order of business to simply explore the campus, and see what all it had to offer.  One of the great mutant sanctuaries, and here he was.  What would come next, he wondered?  He was here for now.  It was better to focus on that.  He'd figure the rest out later.  Jon still needed to finish his recovery.  For now, he'd see what was here, and settle himself at the Academy.

Episode 7: Rifts
Josh had returned to the college campus in high(ish) spirits. For the main part, their own assault had gone well with all objectives achieved. Sure, there had been casualties but he had learned to steel himself against those small knocks.

He still felt concern for Becky, and knew that their work could be important to having her back and operational soon. But he also had his room mate to worry about too. Hopefully the news of Becky being back would bring him out of his stupor. He took off to his room to see where Jason was. Maybe he could introduce some blocks just the same way as he had had placed upon him?

Along the way, he encountered Johnathan. "Hey mate, how are you?" he asked with a smile on his face. The man was a shapeshifter by the looks of things, and he had had experience of at least one of those around the camp lately.

Jon nodded to Josh.  "Feeling better, taking in the sights.  Diverse place... is that forest part of the campus, or...?"

"Dunno, haven't really been in there. If it floats your boat, have a gander and make yourself comfy. You might find La'Rhane there, or Jackson. Both shifters, so you should get on." answers the youngster.

He looks over the shifter, but can't tell what to make of him. "If you need me, check out the dorms. I'm just headed to see a mate to see how he's doing."

La'Rhane watched with interest as a long convoy of what appeared to be repurposed Army trucks entered through the main gates and made their way across the campus to the main admin building.  Shrugging her omni-present shoulder pack up a little higher she wondered what was happening now.  There had been no announcements or rumors but since heavily armed and armored soldier types didn't come boiling out of the vehicles she elected to wait and watch.  Not only that but she had a Calculus exam in ten minutes that was good for a quarter of her grade.

Episode 7: Rifts
After arriving on Campus Lynn spent several hours on the phone speaking with her parents, There may have been many long emotional pauses involved and quantities of tears on behalf of both parties but she ain't saying.  After repeatedly reassuring them that she was alright and that it hadn't really been that bad and that she didn't know why they had kidnapped her (she can lie like a rug when she needs to) she finally could make herself hang up.  Feeling better emotionally if strung out physically she went in search of one of the promised bathtubs and a much needed scrub down and then some place to burn the clothes she was wearing.

Episode 7: Rifts
Jon hadn't been surprised to notice there were a few people watching with curiosity as they arrived, and hadn't paid it much heed.  There were going to be students at a campus, and had decided to explore instead of confront any of them.

After his brief exchange with Josh, however, he decided to give that forest a closer look.  Maybe it would prove a good place to get some real exercise...  Along the way, he shifted back into his wolf-like form.  He didn't need to be shy, here.  He'd never been particularly shy about what he was, only keeping it secret on special occasions.

The hunters filed off of the transports and scattered off amid the campus. There was a barracks built into the bunker system below the campus. That the campus could so easily and readily house a military force on such short notice might have hinted at the previous purpose of the establishment.

Victor guided Rebbecca off of a transport. With singular focus he motioned her towards the lab. Getting that damned shell off of her head what the first thing on his mind. He shot a glance at Joshua, Havoc could help Becky on his own, but the boy made things go faster. It was odd to have an assistant that didn't get in the way. "Damn it Joshua, c'mon and get her to the lab, we have work to do." Relying on someone was not in his nature, but it came naturally in this case.

"Eh? Doc? Dammit." replied Josh, hearing the old crazy behind him as he talked to Johnathan. That put paid to his plan of seeing how Jason was...he wondered if he could reach him mentally.

Episode 7: Rifts
La'Rhane was running.  It wasn't because she was in any particular hurry, she wasn't.  It was also not because she had someplace she needed to be, because she didn't.  She was running for the simple reason that she wanted to and it was her prefered method of getting around.  The weight of the pack on her back in no way hindered her speed as her long strides ate up the ground.  A running coach would have said that her form was terrible, her stride to long, her weight not centered over her hips, of course he would have probably also said that there was no way a 200+ lb female could run at 50 mph but that was what she was doing

Angleing away from the main campus La'Rhane grinned as her bare feet thudded against the grass.  The asphalt and concrete bikepaths and walkways that criss crossed the campus were nice but the lawns were better, less jolting and the grass tickled the soles of her feet.  Ahead of her the dappled darkness of the schools wooded area spread, a small patch of semi wilderness amidst the well maintained grounds.  The small 40 acre section could hardly be called a forest but it was at least a little more primal than anywhere else on campus.  That was probably the reason it was popular with the more feral 'students'.  Some of them rarely if ever left it.

Slowing down La'Rhane paid more attention to her footing, exposed roots and holes were not uncommon under the trees and while it was very doubtful a fall would injure her they were still unpleasant and embaressing.   Up ahead she saw on of her favorite obstacles amidst the trees, a large pine had at some point broke off in a storm.  Wedged between two other trees it was inclined at almost a thirty degree angle.  Putting on a burst of speed La'Rhane jumped up the five feet to the trunk and raced up its length.  Nearing the end where the 9 inch log had tappered to much to support her and the wild bouncing was threatening to throw her off she leaped clear at the top of a bounce and sailed through the air in a long arc...that almost clearedthe stream.

"Well, karp.  I thought I had it that time. " She muttered as she waded ashore.  Grabbing her hair she began to wring water out of the waist length mane.  "I just need another two steps and I could make it. "

Episode 7: Rifts
When most people thought of a wolfman such as Jonathan, he imagined few of them would immediately picture him leaping through trees, from branch to branch, but there he was.  It was an exhilarating feeling, about as close as he could come to flight without sprouting wings.  He loved the opportunity to let loose, and run, jump and fly freely.  The chance to explore this campus' own small forest.

He was, however, a stranger here, and could smell the regular occupants of this section.  He'd seen his share of more animalistic mutants, and how many of them could pick up very feral tendencies.  He proceeded to make a mental note to try to avoid angering them.  He wished to be a guest here, not an intruder.

Slowing to a stop just short of a stream, he realized he wasn't alone in his activity, watching a girl just ahead of him fall just shy of crossing the stream in one bound.  With a small smirk, he revealed his presence by way of a small applause.  "Hell of a jump.  No way I'd've been able to get that far in one leap."

Nodoroc was just walkin in from the campus forest. It had been a long time since he was able to reconnect with the land, and this connection was the source of his power. After so long trapped traversing the spirt world so freely felt like he was high on a drug. As he was walking through the main door he ran into Dean Reign. "I was hoping to run into you. I'm glad to see that good people like you and Elizabeth can prosper after the war an sharing that with others."

Elsa was not well, her dark circles under and anger around her that felt present. She saw her old friend and gave a forced smile. "Nodoroc, good to see you..." She shook her head trying to refocus herself on the here and now. "Really, it's good to see you." Her voice was strained but genuine. "So, what do you think about our little establishment here?"

She sighed and gave a stern look. "Come walk with me." Elsa turns and walks down the halls of the main buildings.

As Nodoroc follows she speaks looking forward. "Remember the last time you were here?" She laughs a little. "This was the headquarters of the mutant army were we sent out missions that devastated the Hunters." As you walk by accolades she grinds her teeth trying to live through the small talk. "When you say you want to help, I need to know you aren't just being polite Nodoroc."

"In the past year, we have suffered terrorist attack, kidnappings, robots strikes, and even mutant attacks. This is not exactly the vision of peace and unity my sister Julia imagined."
Her gaze returns to Nodoroc and she turns to face the old man. "I have good reason to believe that our bad luck has not yet run out. Knowing that, are you still offering to keep my sister's insane vision of harmony alive?"

Nodoroc bowed his head, "After I was trapped in that place for awhile, cut off from the spirit world I had given up hope. It wasn't until some of your students were trapped with me that  I actually wanted to go on living. There have always been dark forces willing to stomp out the light. I do not know why there are those that are so afraid of enlightenment, perhaps it is the same evolution that gave us our powers, I suppose it doesn't matter. I truly do wish to help. I am tired of sitting in the dark"

Elsa smiled. "I manage this place alongside the Priest." During his tenure as the director of the Hunter army, General Rylis Jericho famously made his headquarter in a cathedral. The resulting battle earned him the nickname of the Priest.

"He is making decisions. Choices. He is going to put us all at risk leaving us open." Elsa shuddered. "He is going to take everything he has and use it to exterminate the Exchange, the group that was holding you. This is going to leave us open, vulnerable. We cant' let that happen Nodoroc."

"And as much as I hate to admit it, I realize he works to protect us. But I can't abide by what he has done, matters need to be taken into our own hands."

Nodoroc nodded. "When I first arrived at the medical tent to find our saviors were Jericho and Havoc I was terrified, but Elizabeth and a few of your students convinced me that Havoc had changed. They had nothing but kind words to say about him. Some even dubbed him hero. No one had any such words to say about Jericho. During our extraction he ordered he death of everyone at facilities. Some were scientist who were acting under duress, others doctors who had invaluable information as to what they were doing to us and might have been help those of is with the worst injuries, like the girl we rescued. The priest demanded them dead anyway.

"No one knows how sinister the exchange is better than I do, but his methods will only make more enemies and it will be mutants who are blamed for his actions. One of our students said some consider the school a training ground for terrorist but I know that is not the case. Jericho's agenda will only strengthen that image. This is place as one of enlightened learning and it is only through that enlightenment that the exchange, and groups like them, can truly be dismantled."
