Re: Change of the Guard
Staring into the abyss of Havoc's organizational system Joshua found the computer contained references to several files on warp tech. From what he could determine, they seemed to indicate that the file he was looking for was in the TANGO ECHO QUEBEC drive. Joshua struggles trying to find the non existent files until Caligula's whining gets the better of him and Joshua gets up to feed the animal.

On his way to feed him he sees a pile of papers under a half empty bottle of tequila. The TANGO ECHO QUEBEC drive wasn't a digital archive, it was a stack of water damaged composition notebooks.

Once Joshua has the notebooks, reading them proves to be an entirely new type of challenge. They are a dense mix of theoretical science, random thoughts, measurements of things Caligula pays attention to, spelling errors, and CSI:Miami fanfic. Again they reference other papers which leads Joshua further down the rabbit hole...

After about a solid day of struggle, something bizarre understanding starts to form. The warp cube acts as a connector between alternate dimensions. Within the warp itself, intention can act stronger than physics. The cube somehow is able to translate the intent of travel to...

Just as you feel yourself coming to terms with that, everything goes black and you are catapulted through the air before slamming into a wall. Cal watches with amusement. After the all the effort, Joshua can expend a third of the energy within the warp device to teleport in a direction of his choosing about fifteen meters.

Re: Change of the Guard
Josh wasn't hurt of course, but his pride had taken a massive boost. He had connected the dots somehow! Of course he supposed that most of what had happened had been similar to those optical illusions. Look at something long enough, and then your brain just clicked and did the working out for you.

"Laugh it up Cal. You're looking at the warp master's apprentice!"

The energy reading on the device was lower than when it started, but Josh supposed that he could easily recharge it. If he could hook it up to himself, that would be where things got interesting. He hoped that the distances traveled be exponentially larger with more power, as fifteen meters or so was never going to cut the mustard with finding Rebecca.

"Ahh! Bingo." he exclaimed, gathered some things, and took himself outside. He locked the door to prevent Cal escaping, and rammed a pole into the floor. Tying some string about the pole, he looped some around his waist and drew a circle on the floor. Marking off cardinal points, he returned to the pole, took off the string and then used the warp device once more.

"Come on device, take me closer to Rebecca." he thought to himself, trying to will himself closer to the young girl.

Re: Change of the Guard
Havoc walks into his lab and stretches out. Mercy had fixed him, yet he still felt broken. It was clear that Joshua had continued with experiments in the lab. Victor afforded himself a small smile at that. He tosses the remains of his charred equipment into a corner. It wasn't enough to save that stupid girl, he needed to be faster, more prepared.

Re: Change of the Guard
Terri was thinking about applying for frequent walker miles for the number of times she had crossed the campus today.  Ignoring the warning signs, barbed wire, and threats of immediate, excruciating and even very painful death Terri marched up to the door of Victor's lab behind Joshua, the invulnerable boy, and let him knock on the door.  While she was adventurous and brave she wasn't foolish.

Re: Change of the Guard
The thing about having your own key was that you didn't need to knock. Letting himself in, Joshua entered the lab to find Havoc sat in his favourite chair. Calligula was not in his cage, but was sitting next to Havoc and gazing intently at its master. "Heard you were coming back. Glad to see it. Still nothing on the location of Bec, but David and I ran some tests before Ares came and laid the smack down on me." he adds, giving Havoc the low down on recent events.

"Looks like Terri here has something she wants to share with you."

He walked over to Caligula, and picked up the deadly cat before it could sink its claws into the reporter.

Another Set of Eyes
Upon entering the room, there are the brunt remains of the combat brace he was using at the highway incident. Havoc is sitting at his chair tweaking another one. He had opted for a much older more combat oriented brace. It is less of an arm brace and more of a exoskeleton with four extra limbs.

When Joshua explains what had occurred on campus he actually smiles. "Wait! You means Elly was here?" He is talking about Pandora of course. "She's here right now? Well..." He nods and smiles. "I guess I should go say hi. Okay, what was it you wanted to show me?"

Terri handed over the folder without a word, the contents explained themself.  If Havoc had any questions then she would answer them if she could.

Re: Another Set of Eyes
Havoc opens the folder. "Yup, yup..." He flips through the images of people being tortured casually as if he had seen them before. Suddenly he stops and one picture, it's terrible like all the others but for some reason it's enough for Havoc to think it's special for some reason.

"Mary..." He doesn't totally have Terri's name down yet. "How recent are these?" She is able to respond that they were nearly a week old. They took an interesting journey to get here in those hands that were now shaking.

Victor sets the folder down and mutters to himself pacing back and forth. "That nine... there is a nine on the folder, not a five, could be more than that could be a ten or an eleven..."

"Dr. Havoc, I want these people stopped.  I don't mean arrested, I don't mean sent to prison, I don't mean embarrassed in the press, I mean stopped and never able to do this again.  Most of these people think they are untouchable and for the most part they are, but only to normal methods.  They can bribe or intimidate witnesses, buy judges, or even whole police forces.  I don't want them to ever get that chance.  You have the contacts and the know how.  Every name and location in that folder has been verified by three different methods.  I may not have found everyone or every location but that is the heart of the organization.  If it gets cut out the rest of it dies.  I can't do it myself or I would."

Re: Another Set of Eyes
"THERE ARE NINE OF THEM! AT LEAST!" Havoc shouts out in fury and slumps into his chair. Victor sighs. "There is a operation in the works. We get teams, sweep the labs putting down every sunnuva bitch we find, get those poor bastards out of there." He holds up his hand. "We know about five labs, about twenty mutants each." Terri might have known about the labs, but maybe she wasn't aware of the scale.

"They are operating on something called a burn protocol. They can't risk having evidence lead back to them, suggests someone large is pulling strings." Havoc reachs for an ash tray and lights his cigarette angrily puffing the smoke.

"As soon as they realize one of their labs is compromised. The others will disperse, but first they incinerate all evidence of what they were doing."

"Good people died telling us that information, they have ears in the right places so we can't rely on local police, the army, even the goddamn MHA." Suddenly all the mercenaries living in Methis county made just a bit more sense. "Jericho called in lots of favors to put this together. A whole private army." He nods at himself rather impressed with the force his friend was able to muster in such a short time. However he realizes it is not enough.

"We have enough resources to reliably take out five of these labs at once." Victor motions to the picture you handed him. "The notation on this folder in that doctor's hand some letters followed by an L dash 9, it suggests the existence of 9 aug-labs, at least."

"Every day we stall the operation, is another day they come closer to figuring out what we are up to." One hundred eighty souls dying in pain. Enough power to save 100. Havoc stares at the pictures silently.

Re: Another Set of Eyes
Terri slapped the folder open and pulled out a hand writen page and shoved it in Havoc's face.  "Then I suggest you read this damn thing and not just look at the pretty pictures!  I didn't just pull this information out of my ass!  Think about what my ability is!  How do you think I got this information?  I HAVE BEEN INSIDE EACH OF THOSE BUTCHER SHOPS!"  Grabbing another sheet she waved it in his face. " This isn't the kind of information you get by talking to the corner shoe shine!  I stole or copied this information from their own files!  There may be one or two at the very top I don't have names for but I have almost everyone else.  Cut the brains off first then attack the body."

"Cut the brains off the..." Havoc is annoyed at her indignation. "Dammit girl, we don't know who they are. Right now, the priority is saving the people in those butcher shops."

He nods and calms himself down. He could not afford to lose his calm. You almost think you catch a smile on his face for a moment. "After that, yes. After we pull them out, we will go after the top." Havoc steps back and mutters to himself pacing. He points at Joshua. "You and Dr. Hallite were working an angle. Joshua, tell me what he found out about it."

Re: Another Set of Eyes
Joshua was embarrassed by the lack of information he had to provide. "We were trying to work out the locations of the teleports. That was just before the attack. No doubt Em has still continued the good work in my absence, but we had a good solid number of potential places to look and it was a number much less than nine. Five locations were identified."

There was other information too. "I have a feeling that Bec managed to leave us a little present too. Em found files relating to coca cola, broccoli and something else. They are all things that Bec likes, so perhaps those files contain some useful info?"

Re: Another Set of Eyes
Havoc was somewhat confused on the significance of those preference files. "Alright, see what David has come up with. Joshua, when you use a teleport to escape, you never go straight back to your HQ." Back when only a few people knew that you could trace a teleport, this sort of mistake got many people killed during the Gene-War. "But those five exit points can give us a real good idea of the escape strategy."

"That combined with the intel Terri has given us, and the data we collected from other sources... We stand a half decent shot at finding the other points!"
Havoc looked at the spider harness and nodded a plan forming.

He looked over to the dodgy harness. "Back to the tried and tested, rusty but dusty?"

"Would it help matters any if the Nullifiers in the labs were shut down before you went in?  I know they have them up and running, I could feel them when I went in but unless my body is within the area of effect they don't bother me.  I can't jump from object to object but i can still move around."  Idly Terri wondered just how strange that statement would sound to someone who was an outsider..

Havoc shook his head. "We can't rely on those prisoners. Malnourished, tortured, and broken. The priority is to get those people out of there. Terri, your ability to animate objects doesn't actually expose you to nullifier radiation."

Re: Another Set of Eyes
"I think that's what I just said..."  Riffling through the file Terri pulled out a rough hand drawn map of a building.  "Most of the labs I got into had the same basic layout.  I couldn't explore all of the rooms but this was pretty much it.  Where would a nullifier be most likely?  And I am not saying you should rely on the prisoners to be effective fighters or even very useful but consider two things. One, if your forces are going up against augmented humans with stolen powers wouldn't it be nice if we could use our abilities also?  Two, if the nullifiers go down prior to your attack then most of their attention is going to be on getting it back up and running and any guards will be distracted with making sure the prisoners stay under control.  This will mean fewer guards watching the outside.  Three, a few of those prisoners may be very powerful and just waiting for a chance to attack.  I know it isn't something that you can count on but it could be useful.  Four, don't you think those prisoners deserve a chance to defend themselves and strike back against their captors?"

Re: Another Set of Eyes
"Perhaps having the nullifiers continue to work might put things in our favour? If you and I are unaffected by them, we wouldn't need to expose ourselves as being from the college when we break them out."

Cameras might have another thing to say of course, but that was hopefully something that Terri could solve anyway.

Re: Another Set of Eyes
Terri sat back and frazzled her hair with both hands as she studied the frankenstein's abortion on the table before her.  In spite of what she called it the device was actually remarkably sleek and well assembled and probably violated at least 100 FAA Regulations on drones alone.  The fact that Joshua with only a bit of help from Havoc had been able to build it and she had even dreamed it up was both amazing and terrifying.

The small aerial robot had started life based on the design for a verticopter, a plane capable of vertical take off and landings but still able to fly at high speeds.   A propeller located in the center of the plane could be rated through 90 degrees to transition from vertical mode to horizontal flight.

Three hi def video cameras were located around the craft allowing for almost full 360 degree visability with the foward camera equipped with 15:1 optical zoom and 30:1 digital zoom.  Two area microphones heard everything happening around the drone and a small but powerful parabolic mike could be deployed to pick up more distant sounds.  The cameras and mics all transmitted wirelessly back to a receiving station.  Two small three fingered manipulators could  extend from the bottom of the drone allowing the pilot to pick up and move small items.  Havoc had supplied the 'batteries', some type of nano layer graphine composite, its perfectly safe in theory, don't look at it or burn it or expose it to unknown radiations and you should be fine. Maybe.  What ever they were they would run all the systems for almost 8 hours and recharged in only 2.

"Well Josh, are weready to see if I can fly it?  I think I've said that I've never tried something like this.  Up till now if I wanted to move something I basically levitated it with this I'll be trying to control systems and not a whole unit.  If I can do it though it will be alot less draining for me."
