Re: Chapter 3.2: The Wicasa Council ((Bear Butte))

Horn Chips takes deep breath, still grabbing rifle and bajonet embeddened in his stomach. He would die protecting Wovoka. A good death. But he would not die yet.

The shaman lurches forward, pushing the blade even deeper and with all his might slaps his hand against the undead soldier's forehead, forcing words of ancient power over his lips.
He feels his palm heat up with energy and the creature skin crawls...

Modifiers...
-3 Wounds
+1 Gangup from Wovoka
+2 Touch Attack
+2 Wild Attack
+2 Inspiration.
--
+4 Total
21:23, Today: Horn Chips rolled 5,9 using d6+4,d6+4, rerolling max with rolls of 1,5. Fighting.

Re: Chapter 3.2: The Wicasa Council ((Bear Butte))

The shaman's touch elicits a scream from the dead thing, as the holy energy of the spirits pours into it. It rots away, as if time and natrual decay had caught up with it all at once, before finally vanishing into oily black mist.

((OOC: The holy mountain provides a +2 bonus to all healing magic, and Wovoka benefits from Inspiration. Horn Chips does not suffer a -2 multi-action penalty for trying to use heal against the deadder...it's part of the action. That means he gets a 9, which is a Raise. The deadder gets a -2 penalty on it's Spirit roll. That also means you got a 9 on your healing roll.

14:02, Today: The Black Regiment rolled 2 using 1d4, rerolling max with rolls of 2. Spirit. With the penalty, that's a 0, which means you've just killed one of the dead men!

Again, Wovoka benefits from the mountain's bonus and the Inspiration card, so that's 2 wounds healed, not one.))

Re: Chapter 3.2: The Wicasa Council ((Bear Butte))

The creature got a harsh hit and fell, the brave joining the battle gave her pause in step to see where they would move and as she turned, Floating Eagle was on his way with them to the people on yonder yards away. She looked up to the Black Man on the hill and she following the Brave after that little pause to lend her hand. Touching the back of the brave  and parted, her hand touched the religious man in passing and slipped by them to help finish off the two forsaken souls in shambling husks of former glory.

Moving to Moses and Brave, she touches them, granting +2 to ‘weapons/fist’ dmg

Re: Chapter 3.2: The Wicasa Council ((Bear Butte))

Little Crow snarls and takes a shot at Sky Hawk, taking aim for his former brother at arms' head. Sky Hawk is able to knock his aim off fairly easily, however.

The last remaining living Ravenite, seeing the fate of his comrades, feels his nerve fail him, and he begins to run.

[Language unknown: "SONECTSTA!"] Raven shouts as the brave move. The shaman swings his warclub at the man, but it's already too late and he's gained some distance. The Ravenite flees up the hill, away from the battle.

The dead Ravenites fare little better than the living ones. The one hit by the Brave's attack and knocked off balance by the appearance of Mama Avery is unable to come to his companion's aid, and the dead solider fails to land any blows.

The dead man near Rabbit takes a stab, but the scrappy youth is already learning it's attack patterns and dodges away nimbly.

((OOC: Yay! Posties! Alrighty, so Moses, the Brave, and Mama Avery have Smite active for 3 more actions, but her attack didn't hurt the dead man any.

It's time for the Ravenites and the Black Regiment to go, so I'll group all their actions together.

Little Crow and one of the dead men are Shaken, so I check for them right now.

20:39, Today: The Stray, for the NPC Ravenites and Black Regiment, rolled 7,3 using d8,d4+2, rerolling max with rolls of 7,1. Recover from Shaken. Little Crow unshakes (action at -2, but the deadman hit by Walks the Night doesn't.

Little Crow tires shooting Sky Hawk, using his Marksman edge to cancel out his Unshake MAP. He still has to hit Sky Hawk's Parry, since they're in Melee.

20:43, Today: The Stray, for the NPC Little Crow, rolled 7 using 1d8, rerolling max with rolls of 7. Shooting! That's a lucky Hit.

20:44, Today: The Stray, for the NPC Little Crow, rolled 5 using 2d6+1, rerolling max with rolls of 2,2. Damage. That's piss poor damage that doesn't even break Sky Hawk's toughness.

The other Ravenite on the field, the one right behind Raven, decides that this whole fight isn't really worth his life, and he tries to run. However, this means moving away from Raven, and Raven doesn't like braves who display such cowardice and disloyalty.

20:49, Today: The Stray, on behalf of Raven, rolled 3,2 using d12,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 3,2. Don't you RUN from me, boy! Clean miss.

The running Ravenite aced his running die, so he's literally running like a bat out of hell. He gets 12 squares. That means the only Ravenite left is Little Crow, who I'll be giving separate billing now.

Little Crow is promoted to henchman, but so is Sky Hawk.

Little Crow's next card: 5D

on to the Black Regiment.

There are 3 BR soldiers left, and one is Shaken. One can attack Rabbit, and one can attack Moses, Mama Avery, or Walks The Night Alone.

The BR soldier in a position to attack Rabbit does so (he has a +2 Gang-up bonus from Raven and the Shiwana). The one facing three opponents is going after Moses again (he would have a Gang-up bonus, but his partner is currently Shaken and thus can't provide one).

21:47, Today: The Black Regiment rolled 3,1 using d8+2,d8, rerolling max with rolls of 1,1. Fighting! Neither of them hit. Looks like the Black Regiment is losing steam here.

Black Regiment card: QS))

Driven by furious grief and the urgent need to return to the shamans' side, Sky Hawk's blocking move becomes an overarm, sweeping swing. He's not even aware of the cry that tears from his throat as he aims for his once-friend's skull.

Quiet Knife takes note of the glowing - more than a trick of the light, some smoke-belching steel-spirit, perhaps, or an animal hiding in man shape, so corrupted as to take up a gun - and once more circles the trunk out of the sniper's view, keeping up that steady sound of doom. Since the sound's not going to kill the thing, however, Quiet Knife quietly unlimbers his bow and strings it, ready.

[Language unknown: "Aieiun se, ncntme!"] The Hooded One snarls, grabbing Rabbit by the neck as the youth tries to get a grip and thrusting the youth away with angry violence.

There's a roar like thunder, and an incredible wind...the wind spirit shrieks as the sudden clap of thunder discorporates it. The dead Ravenite staggers and stumbles, clearly unable to keep it's feet. Even Rabbit, pushed away as violently as the youth was, finds it hard to stand.

Only Raven seems unmoved by the wind, though waves of anger roll from the shaman.

Little Crow sees the blow coming in time to roll with it, turning the potentially fatal attack into a glancing blow across his shoulder. he winces, but remains standing...though it's becoming clear that the tide has turned, and his eyes dart back and forth as he seeks an escape path.

((OOC: Raven attempts to resist being Grappled.

20:39, Today: Raven rolled 10,4 using d12,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 10,4. Escape!

Given the amount of force Wanbli Luja will have to generate to affect the Shiwana, he's going to affect everything in a Large Burst Template around himself. That means The Shiwana, Raven, the Black Regiment Soldier, and Screaming Rabbit all need to make a Vigor roll (at -2) or be Shaken. This will have additional affects against the Shiwana, because if it fails it has to make a second Vigor roll to oppose the Strength check of the mighty eagle spirit or take 2d6 damage.

20:39, Today: Raven rolled 4,3 using d10-2,d6-2, rerolling max with rolls of 6,5. Vigor. Pass.

20:41, Today: The Stray, for the NPC Shiwana, rolled 1 using 1d6-2, rerolling max with rolls of 3. Vigor. Fail.

20:42, Today: The Stray, for the NPC Shiwana, rolled 3 using 1d6, rerolling max with rolls of 3. Opposed Vigor. Fail, with Wanbli getting a Raise over it.

20:43, Today: The Stray, on behalf of Wanbli Luja, rolled 13 using 3d6, rerolling max with rolls of 5,4,4. damage (with Raise). Shaken and 2 Wounds for the Shiwana, which will disperse it handily.

20:46, Today: The Black Regiment rolled 1 using 1d8-2, rerolling max with rolls of 3. Vigor. Fail.

Sky Hawk likewise gets a wound on his foe. It's only one wound, though, so Little Crow attempts to Soak

20:49, Today: The Stray, for the NPC Little Crow, rolled 1,10 using d8,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 1,(6+4)10. Soak!))

There was kick up of dust out of hte corner of her eye. A glance spoke that it was something beyond her and the great spirit soaring in the sky was behind it... That.. That is were she should be, in that wind storm of madness, assisting the spirit. For now, she had the dead to confront as she steped back from battle, all was clear around her, for now.  Feeling a soft pressure, walking with a disquieting focus,  her clothing ruffled as thin black lines coil around each arm, snaking down to her wrist. Spilling her arms forward in a fluidmanner, her elbows out and palms showing flat toward the two offending creatures, the black mambas rear and shoot forth, growing in size. with black smoke whirling around them as if trapped in a tight, rolling wind. It passed Moses and the Brave she blessed with smite and attacked the corpses with vicious lashing bites, their scales shining black under the skies... Unpon a heel, she turns to the other side of the brave and casts her gaze t othe troubling thunder and wind where a young one yells; Screaming Rabbit.

The dead men writhe as the phantom serpents twist, crush, and bite. One of the dead men vanishes in a puff of oily smoke, while the other is clearly the worse for wear and reels.

The shaman's hood turns to Rabbit. It turns toward the battlefield, and then turns to regard the shallow cut on the shaman's arm, the giant eagle spirit, and the oncoming swamp witch.

Rabbit sees The World Beyond, like a yawning, gaping mouth, attempting to swallow all around it...and quick as a wink, the Shaman steps through the hole between the worlds, makes a gesture, and closes the hole. The Shaman is gone.

Without his presence, the remaining dead vanish back into the black smoke that birthed them. Only the living and the dead are left in his wake.

((OOC: That will Shake the monster who isn't shaken yet, and deal 2 wounds to the one who was already Shaken. That one vanishes.

Rabbit lowers the sleeve that provided protection from viewing the aching dark of the underworld, blinking. Instead of a Raven shaman, general battle and a fighting ghoul, the only person before Rabbit was an unknown black woman in the middle distance.
Going with it, Rabbit bows to the stranger and starts running back towards the shamans. "Wovok-!"

The sight of Thunder Walker lying across the way brings the youth down as though struck behind the knees. Trembling slightly, Rabbit takes up his right hand and leans down to listen to his chest, breath baited the better to hear any weak thud of life.

Nothing. No beat, no breath.

Rabbit waits, just to be entirely sure that it's only the false hope of the one living heartbeat they have between them that can be heard, then leans back. The Chinese stray's knuckles pale around the big man's hand, as if holding tight enough might crush some warmth back in, eyes closed hard. "..."

Re: Chapter 3.2: The Wicasa Council ((Bear Butte))

The Black Regiment soldiers dissipated into oily smoke just as the prophet reached for his shotgun.
Carelessly, he drops it back under his coat, the string jerking once as it caught the gun's fall.

He had felt something... someone had touched him, sent a wave of warmth and might from his shoulders to his hands. His fingertips still felt as if they were sparkling with the wrath of God.
Had the Lord sent an Angel to help him?
He looks around, taking in the carnage. This place, this holy place, had been defiled.
He listens to the wind, then nods. "Yes, it will heal."

As he turns, he sees Rabbit bowing to the negro woman. Was she the Angel?

Then he grips his forehead, as if hit by a strong headache.
He shakes his head, clearing it. "Yes Lord. Moses shall give Thunder Walker his last rites so that he may climb the scales of justice and righteousness when the time comes."

But then he turns away from Thunder Walker's body and from Screaming Rabbit kneeling in front of it and hurries to the side of Wovoka.
He kneels down, gently pushing Horn Chips away from his fallen leader.
"Let Moses help Wovoka, Horn Chips. Then he shall care for your wounds."

Gently, Moses puts his giant hand on Wovoka's chest. The Paiute looks small and vulnerable and for a moment it seems as if he will be crushed under Moses' weight.

"Lord, Moses humbly asks for your help, so that you may heal your servant, Wovoka."

Wovoka grunts as Moses pushes down, hard and even coughs up a bubble of blood. Just as Horn Chips wants to pull back Moses' hand, the giant negro releases his gip, showing Wovoka's bare skin, unmakred by scars or wounds.

As the indian slowly gets up, Moses picks something up from the grass below him - the bullet that had pierced Wovoka's lungs.

He holds it out to Wovoka, an enigmatic smile on his face. With his deep, rumbling voice, he asks: "Horn Chips, you have been opposed to Moses coming here. You are wounded. Will you accept Moses trying to heal you?"

Re: Chapter 3.2: The Wicasa Council ((Bear Butte))

The elderly shaman began to walk through the chaos and the carnage easily now, having seen that some evil had been unraveled with the disappearance of the hooded one. "Walks the Night Alone, Kills Iron Horse, Hollow," he called to the three Dog Soldiers nearest him, speaking in the language of the Cheyenne.

"You fought well and brought honor to the tribe this day. You have seen here what these men who follow the raven are willing to do. Bringing violence against the unarmed here at a holy place of Bear Butte. Shedding blood upon these peaceful slopes. Worst of all, ripping dead braves from their well earned rest to fight here against you." He gestured not far from him, to where the dead Lakota lay, the young Chinese youth kneeling beside him. The old shaman was still uncertain what to make of the youth, but he did not speak the language of the Green Snake Tribe. "They claim to want to fight against the white man, and we all know well that call, but look who they have killed here today - Lakota, and Cheyenne, they will have tried. Perhaps it is that we must fight against the white man more, as he pushes us only into war. But their way is not the way. If that is a fight we must have a part of, it will be with those of us that still live. With our bows, and our spears and our tomahawks and with the spirits at our back."

"Go throughout this camp with your brothers and sisters and see if any of these cowardly snakes who have followed the Raven remains. We must learn from them what they plan next."

Himself, he walked closer to the fallen Lakota, and knelt by him. Very quickly he saw as he suspected. No signs of life. He gave a long, scrutinizing look to the Chinese who had been tangling with Raven.

Re: Chapter 3.2: The Wicasa Council ((Bear Butte))

Art blinked a few times as the dust settled and the smoke cleared. The journey that had begun so peacefully had become nothing but pain, violence, and death. He walked closer to where a lad knelt by the large brave that had come to his aid. He walked over toward him and went down on a knee beside Thunder Walker, next to Tan. He spoke softly, "A friend of yours? He seemed to be filled with both courage and conviction. He be the only one willing to speak when that stinking behemoth accosted me. I be very sorry for your loss."

Art looked up at Eagles Floating as he knelt nearby, a question on his face. Art had felt that same wooden club of doom strike him heavily. Yet the gangly Irishman had survived. He didn't know why he had been spared while this muscle-bound Lakota had not.

At last Rabbit lets go of the dead man and manages to scrape some English together for the fire-headed giant, just about managing not to shrink into a 'don't eat me' flinch. "Yes. He save my life." Rabbit swallows hard.

Re: Chapter 3.2: The Wicasa Council ((Bear Butte))

A low thundering rippled over the mountainside.

"I will aid you to seek out the corpse-picker's get, as I was called for,"
Wanbli told the assembled warriors, gliding a broad, low circle on the winds of aether, his plumage bright as moonlit snow. "Come!"

With the sound of a thousand dropped drums the King of the Eagles beat his wings and climbed upward, seeking for prey.

In reply to Sky Hawk (msg # 317):

Little Crow takes the knife, and glares at his former brother. [Language unknown: "O e ou Ckulun ome has. Fi ivchevwh adain p whiconoer miad ouacbe di eau menthoven, omseiv ticnc ichce ai ntonin thi ca herse whekar rellpl avess ev nde!"]

With that he leaps at Sky Hawk, blade flashing. The two spar back and forth, and though Little Crow scores first blood with a shallow cut across Sky Hawk's chest, the two seem very evenly matched, and neither score a decisive blow.
In reply to Moses (msg # 319):

"I was opposed." The shaman says, haltingly, in English. "I am no longer."

He looks over at the battle between Sky Hawk and Little Crow, and sighs. He chants something, and suddenly the brave's skin shimmers, and bulks out. A phantom bear, intangible and almost imperceptible except to those in tune with the ways of magic, rears up behind Sky Hawk, lending it's stamina to him. [Language unknown: "Ec undmenany he rat miiell."] The shaman says.

((OOC: What chips did Wovoka and Horn Chips have? I'm removing them from your list. Also, remember that on Bear Butte, all healing magic gets a +2 bonus.

Horn Chips casts Boost Trait on Sky Hawk, increasing his Vigor.

15:52, Today: Horn Chips rolled 8,0 using d10-1,d6-1, rerolling max with rolls of 9,1. Tribal Medicine. That will improve Sky Hawk's vigor by two steps, which wil give him a +2 to toughness))

In reply to Eagle Floating on Gentle Breeze (msg # 320):

The three braves nod, and withdraw. They follow the giant Eagle spirit as it flies, searching for Ravenites.

The sniper, bearded in the tree, is swiftly captured, and his powerful rifle stripped from him as he's dragged back to the camp. He glares at Wovoka with his burning, unnatural red eyes.

((OOC: There's one Cheyenne who has been injured, as well as 3 Ravenites (and Hoarse From Roaring, who is a Wild Card). Also, I've updated the languages Eagles Floating speaks. Algonkian is his native tongue))

Re: Chapter 3.2: The Wicasa Council ((Bear Butte))

She stood, the serpents that bite and squeezed it's reeking prey dropped as the things turned to oiled dust, the serpents breaking into nothing more then ether and smoke, evaporating from the world before ever hitting the ground. Her steps to come near the young Rabbit caused for pause as the darling orient bowed and fled to the lingering corpse of a giant and brave soul..

Dark eyes lay over the scene of blood and pain, her head canting up ever slightly as she still felt with the power of deflection and smite, the blessing against her fingers tips in unseen waves. If any, she felt a touch wary of the Zealot, for no other reason that religious men tend to look upon her with condemning eyes. Will have to see how that plays out.. The Spirit above circled, eyes following the great spirit as the three called braves leave to follow.

She stood aloft, and the new calm in this moment was putting her off ease. The women fighting at least gave some noise, she was too late to the scene to know which of the two men were wicked or not. Things may have turned out differently is she was here sooner...

He continued his scrutiny of the Chinese youth for a moment, offering but a frown, but he rose gingerly to his feet. There were more important things to do than worry after this one. He sighed again looking at the fallen Lakota, and shared the look with Art but said nothing more of it. The old shaman continued to stride through the battlefield towards a Cheyenne that had fallen to some injury. He sat beside the wounded man for a time.

[Language unknown: "Seic mewino laiees," ]he said, kindly, and begin to take herbs and the things with which to bind and treat wounds to see to his ills.

Re: Chapter 3.2: The Wicasa Council ((Bear Butte))

Her eyes fell to a brave, running red over his skin from the injuries of battle. Oh, yes.. She perhaps should be more thoughtful of the people here.It was in her best interest, she made her approach and offered out both her hands to the Brave. He looked at her with something of confused and bafflement as if he never seen such a dark woman. Her light clothes were a bit dusty from the run over here..  She knelt by his side and examined it first, the man studying her with just as much intent, her fingers lightly touched his skin, surrounding, but not touching over it...

Then, slowy, she wiped her hand over it and left only skin, unmarred from the action.. Avery slowly backed up from that moment and looked over anyone else that may need some assistance...

Mama Avery rolled 10,4 using D8,D6, rerolling max with rolls of (8+2)10,4. Healing.

Moses nods and stands up, looking toward Sky Hawk and Little Crow.
"LITTLE CROW!" He bellows.
"YOU ARE TRANSGRESSING AGAINST YOUR BROTHERS. YOU ARE TRANSGRESSING AGAINST THE LORD ALMIGHTY!"

He raises both hands toward the sky. "Oh Lord, Thy humble servant asks you to give unto this man as you gave unto the Syrians and smite Little Crow with Blindness."

Suddenly, the sun shines brighter, it seems, as if focused on the top of Bear Butte. Eyes narrow and tear up agains the light, but somehow, it seems focused on Little Crow.

11:07, Today: Moses rolled 12,4 using d8,d6, rerolling max with rolls of (8+4)12,4. Faith for blind!

That's a raise. Copying the effect for easier reference
This power temporarily blinds a target or targets. Those affected must make an Agility roll at –2 to avert their gaze and avoid the effect (at –4 if the caster got a raise on the attack roll). On a failure, victims are Shaken and –2 to Parry until their next action. If the target rolls a 1 on his Agility die (regardless of the Wild Die), he’s Shaken and fully blind until he recovers from being Shaken. Blinded victims suffer a –6 penalty to all Trait rolls that require vision and have their Parry reduced to 2.

Re: Chapter 3.2: The Wicasa Council ((Bear Butte))

Art gave Tan a supportive pat on the shoulder as he left to follow Eagles Floating. Kira was at his heels in a heartbeat, panting after the exertion from the battle. Eagles Floating was a far more accomplished healer, but Art provided assistance where he could. He looked over in the direction of where Moses had spotted Little Crow still causing trouble. He spoke to Eagles Floating as the shaman provide relief to one of the injured Cheyenne. [Language unknown: "N ut ur seonce omen son fi wit, atehasast rea bech icaiveons osiv te u.
