Re: Chapter 3.2: The Wicasa Council ((Bear Butte))

Rabbit saw it coming and manages not to freeze at being patted, though the huge, bloody-jowled dog that trots after the giant gets a wide-eyed stare.  It takes some emptied, aching moments for Rabbit to mentally re-sort the world, now less a Thunder Walker.

Act.

The slight Chinese youth rises, determined to get help to see the brave's spirit home properly. The shoulder of the holy mountain is a bloodied mess, wounded men groaning or twitching a private semaphore of pain out on the dirt. Rabbit edges up to Wovoka, only now realising how hard one fist has been locked about the razor. Rabbit wipes it on an already crimsoned sleeve before gently seeking Wovoka's attention.
[Language unknown: "Laers...to ar Aiiler Eretering,"] Rabbit tells him quietly, watching the fight with concern.

Some force settled on him like a second skin, but unable to risk a look aside Sky Hawk merely accepted the medicine with his spirit, trusting it was to his good. A shielding warmth spread over his chest, overtaking the blood running under his shirt. Sky Hawk circled, awaiting some gap in the other's defenses.

Wovoka nods at Rabbit's words, and his face goes hard as stone. He looks over at Little Crow.

[Language unknown: "Ant orell."] He says in his own tongue, mostly to himself.

He gestures, and the ground itself springs up around the treacherous Little Crow. Sky Hawk mutely tosses his tomahawk one-handed to change grip, extending the handle to Wovoka.

[[*laughing at Heroic vs. Pacifist (Major)* Oh gods...at least Wovoka doesn't need to roll to hit.]]

Rabbit trots up on Wovoka's heels, still gripping the razor. [Language unknown: "Ndred caart nonde enutho any alprladi ardoneeau ateatiter ngur ndeio,"] Sky Hawk says, though his tone is respectful towards one with right to the kill, not admonishing. At Horn Chips' pronouncement he dips his head.

Briefly, Sky Hawk's gaze meets Little Crow's, as though to say 'I tried', but he no longer has an excuse to kill his once-friend in battle. Sky Hawk goes to help Quiet Knife subdue the other captives.

Rabbit shivers, then swallows and looks around the mess once more. The lump that was Thunder Walker causes the youth's gaze to drop, though after a long, hard blink, Rabbit looks to Horn Chips again.

[Language unknown: "Adfi, tr i a thablelin?"]
Rabbit asks. The question is utterly genuine, not seeking to be reassured or delivered from blame, but truly unsure through inexperience how much is right to shoulder.

Re: Chapter 3.2: The Wicasa Council ((Bear Butte))

Art turned to Finn at the question from the Gael. "They be discussing the problems they be having with the Christians. The natives' way of life and very existence be threatened by the encroaching Christians. There be plenty of land here, but it no be enough. Some of the natives have taken to killing the Christians with the Christian weapons, but others believe that be angering the spirits. They feel that to be true to their own beliefs, they should be using the power that be within themselves - and seeking the path of peace where possible. Those that follow the Raven believe that by indiscriminately killing, they be serving the good of their people. But it no be true - they just be serving the dark forces that feed on death itself. They be capturing some of those that follow the Raven now."

Art was explaining in English about what the native tongue was meaning, he seemed like the best candidate for the spell. The dark lady crossed the way and looked from him to the battle of Crow and Hawk. She leans her hip to one side and placed her left hand on the man.

" D'at tis whut all o' d'his is about?.." She trailed for a moment, the dead rising up was a concern as well as that shadow man in the hood.

Mama Avery rolled 7,8 using D8,D6, rerolling max with rolls of 7,(6+2)8. Speak.

Art listened to what Finn was saying, and was a little startled by the touch of Mama Avery. He briefly glanced at her before turning back to Finn. "It no be that we failed to save our lands entire. The people still be there, though they no be what you remember. Almost all be Christians themselves - and they be ruled by the bloody Normans." Art frowned briefly, but then continued. "The Raven do be callin' an entire dead army. It no be just the method o' killin' that be at stake. It be deeper than that. There just be wonton destruction ta build bigger an army o' the dead if Raven be getting his way. Last I saw, he be helpin' the invaders ta kill th' natives in a battle. So he no be even tryin' ta help the natives in his own way. He be a traitor to his people as well."

With Little Crow subdued, Moses leaves the punishment to the red men. He has an opinion, certainly, but he knows that his being here alone was already straining some people's tolerance.

"At least the rift between Moses and Horn Chips seems to be mended." he says, quietly, as if to himself, then nods again.

With his large strides, he walks over to Thunder Walker's body, gently touching Rabbit's shoulder.

Moses kneels, taking one hand of Thunder Walker's in his.
"Thunder Walker was a brave warrior. He will ride with the Lord's host when the Last War begins. He will add his considerable weight to the scales of good on Judgement Day."

Art briefly considered the question, then shook his head lightly. "No, he no be like the Morrigna. Even when Cu Chulainn be struggling against the woman, he no be fighting an army of the dead - she be a woman scorned. Raven just be the fury of Hell which be paling by comparison, yes? Maybe if he be fighting for the freedom of the natives he be worthy of your respect. But he be happy to be killing his people and be using their bodies and probably their souls for his purposes." Art shuddered at that thought.

"There be a spirit of the Raven, somewhere in the spirit worlds. Do there be anything you and the other spirits, the ones that no be likin' those that steal souls ta do their dirty work, can do ta help?"

The elderly shaman, having healed the Dog Soldier, seemed to have been frozen in time and lost in his own thoughts. The warrior's statement recalled him to the here and now, and he rose slowly, feeling the weight of his age in his old bones but ignoring it as he strode through the holy land that had been improperly turned into a battlefield by the brothers of Raven. Off to one side, he could see that a few of the others had gathered together, among them the young man who would be Wovoka. This was made especially clear when the Ghost Dance was spoken about.

Horn Chips:
Wovoka turns from the Ravenites with a sigh, and looks over to Thunder Walker. He kneels by the dead man's side. "All hope for him may not yet be lost, Moses. If...When we perform the Ghost Dance here, I shall seek his spirit. I will ask if he wishes to return. Thunder Walker might yet live again."

Moses is about to reply when the Floating with Eagles interjects. The prophet nods.
"How many more will come forth to ask for loved ones to return? Or for fallen heroes, cut down in their prime, to rise again?"

He shrugs and looks around, taking in the carnage once more.
"You will need all the help you can get. Moses shall ask the Lord heal Horn Chips now, as promised."

He waves Horn Chips closer, then kneels before the shaman, turning him sideways. Moses presses his hands on the entry and the exit wound where the bajonet ran through Horn Chips' body and asks: "Lord, this man has risked his life to save the prophet, Wovoka. Will you not heal his wounds for being a true servant of good?"

Heat seems to eminate from Moses' hands, searing through the wound, making Horn Chips squirm in the negro's tight grip. But when Moses let's go, the skin is unblemished and the wound is gone.

09:05, Today: Moses rolled 13,6 using d8-1,d6-1, rerolling max with rolls of (8+6)14,(6+1)7. Faith to heal. - 3 wounds, +2 healing.

He nods to Horn chips, as if to thank him, then looks around searching Rabbit.
When he finds the little Chinese, he spreads his arms, still on his knees and asks: "Do you not need healing as well, Screaming Rabbit?"

Rabbit hunch-freezes briefly like a real leporid at Moses' hail, but just as quickly realises that Moses is just waving his arms about because he's Moses rather than as a prelude to a running tackle. The stray Chinese lifts the red-blotched right sleeve to examine the cut through the slit in the cloth. "It only small. I...I cold, a bit." That was one way to explain the shaking, at least. Rabbit swallows, and finally folds the lazor away.

But for the greatest of men, those who are known far and wide, when the dance is performed with a great number of shamans who know the secrets, the dead just rise to life, fresh as newborns...a true second life."

Re: Chapter 3.2: The Wicasa Council ((Bear Butte))

The negro's face is unmoving, as if cut from stone. He shrugs, then takes his coat off.
"Let the Lord's love cloak you and give you comfort."
He carefully lifts his cloak over Rabbit, and wraps the little chinese in his huge black duster. His voice swings with a certain timbre - not quite singing, but more than talking, too.
"Let it take away your sorrows and fears. Let it keep you warm and save."
Moses gently squeezes Rabbit's shoulders, immediately releasing his grip once he feels the tension built up in Rabbit's muscles.
"For you are as brave as a lioness guarding her cubs and you have the protection of all the angels in Heaven, as Moses has told you before. You are among the Lord's favored sheep. And you shall never be cold, nor hungry. Nor hurt."

And with that, the scratch on Rabbit's face vanishes.

Not sure how many wounds Rabbit has, or if it's only fatigue... but here it goes.

16:05, Today: Moses rolled 8,7 using d8+2,d6+2, rerolling max with rolls of 6,5. Faith to heal.

Re: Chapter 3.2: The Wicasa Council ((Bear Butte))

Rabbit touches the smooth skin of a vanished cut below the temple, belatedly aware it had existed.

"I...thank Moses, and the god," Rabbit says, bundling up in the duster, which was certainly warmer than a thin, partially blood-wet shirt. Hopefully those without English as a first language would miss the reference to mother beasts. A low knife-twist twinge ran through Rabbit, but the pain seemed to calm and ebb away with the warming of the skin.

[[Rabbit was just about to roll Fatigue for dehydration/not eating all day, the visible minor dings are from low-damage attacks ...but thanks!]]

Moses gets a weak but genuine smile. "Now people will mistake me for Moses," Rabbit says softly, pulling the garment into even more of a coccoon. Noticing Spotted Face being called over, Rabbit just about dares to address Eagles Floating, bowing slightly then nodding at Mama Avery: [Language unknown: "Wasortday fiaiat U hoatee res Oerthuher...blerutart korhisure mo wend naan ac p ce?"]

"I do not know this woman," he says in halting English of the question asked of him. "She fight on our side, with no weapons, she strikes with the hands to hit the dead warriors." He mimicked a fighting motion, before asking a question of Avery.

"You are with the same tribe as the big one?" He is obviously referring to Moses.
