Re: Chapter 3.2: The Wicasa Council ((Bear Butte))

Art looked over at Eagles Floating when he was addressed and noded. [Language unknown: "Ai ughhastic p e winepa osnino o remiom res Latingore."]

Before Art could query Eagles Floating concerning the nature of his summons, the shaman had moved on. It had been a difficult day on all of them - just like the preceding days. Particularly since the death of Black Kettle.

Art looked over to the man he believed to be Wovoka. He walked near him and bowed his head as a sign of respect. [Language unknown: "O it elceut k all saseli, Urenut. Nde eewhi M ti k hoevallahi?"]

Re: Chapter 3.2: The Wicasa Council ((Bear Butte))

Many looked to her as they spoke, healed, and gathered directions for the Ghost Dance to honor the fallen. Avery had bent her back slightly to peer down into her towing satchel and pull out a pot to cradle it within the nook of her arm. Like a cat, she was quiet, demure, and aloof for the time being, fixating now  on the little pot as her fingers swirled around the rim, her nail making a soft scathing sound the slowly began to get a bit more like how water sounds when it's rolling off stone.

Being addressed, her eyes flicked upward to the face of the man whom answered Rabbit's curiosity about her. " Big one.." Her brow furrowed a little and she turned her head to look at the zealot and wheels in her mind started to turn.

" No. Tis be one o' a dwindlin' kind." She raised the pot to those around Floating, including Rabbit. The pot had what looked like a little over a pint of clear water within. " I wait ta rebuild my tribe, too many threats brewin'."

Mama Avery rolled 7,3 using d8,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 7,3. Element Manipulate [Water].

"You come here for husband?" Rabbit asks, very confused by Mama Avery's reply. The pot gets an uncertain, wary look once Rabbit's controlled the urge to flinch from things raised to face height. "...what...what is it?"

Re: Chapter 3.2: The Wicasa Council ((Bear Butte))

Art smiled at the question from Wovoka, and spoke in his customary brogue at Wovoka's request. "English be fine with me if it be fine with you, though it be a long story."

"When I be younger, I be a wanderer - leaving me family behind ta explore on me own a bit. Me family lived southeast of here", he pointed toward the southeast to emphasize, "-though sort of in the wilderness. They be able to grow things well and live off the land with the help of the spirits. When I leave, I be guided through the wilderness toward the south, learning much about flora, fauna, and self. I also be stumbling on some larger cities and be meeting folk there. The city did no seem like a good place for me, though. No so much as the open land. So I be leaving after some time and wandering even further to the south."

"After some time, I be led to the land of the Coyote by the spirits. I be meeting those within - Cherokee, Comanche, and Cheyenne. Eagles Floating be teaching me much about the spirits, how to be listening to them and asking for them to help. Me parents first taught me and me brothers and sisters a bit, but I be learning even more from Eagles Floating and those of the other peoples of the land of the Coyote."

He fell silent having told Wovoka the very basics. There was a great deal more, but he wasn't certain if this was the time or place to dig into the details of his recent history any further.

Moses nods a curt greeting at Mama Avery, but then turns around, revealing his many scars criss-crossing his back.
He strides over to where Little Crow still lies helpless on the ground.

He pulls Crazy Horse's war club from his waistband, not to threaten, but rather to slightly lean on it as he crouches down next to the traitorous indian.

"Little Crow" he says, softly. "You are a traitor of your race. You say you want to fight the white man. But then why do you follow Raven?"

Little Crow:
The stocky Sioux just glares at Moses.

The negro stares back. A long, silent minute passes. Then a bee sits down on Moses' hands and walks down his fingers, flittering its wings, once, twice, then takes off again.
"You are right, Lord. Moses forgot the curse of Babel."

19:03, Today: Moses rolled 1,11 using d8,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 1,(6+5)11. Faith to speak language.

Re: Chapter 3.2: The Wicasa Council ((Bear Butte))

" Ya fin' it odd?.." Avery posed the inquiry with a arch brow, a women of her age normally didn't attract many suitors yet what she lacked in youthful innocence, she closed the distance with experience and moxy. As she would see it, a good fight would thin out the herd a little and make picking a sturdy man all the more suitable, but.. Like she had stated, that will have to wait. " It matters not.." She started, seeing the young orient woman wince a little, Avery cradled the pot away from the girl and tipped it a little so she could still look inside.

" D'is be only water... See." Like she was before, her dark finger touched the inner rim of the pot and slowly winds her finger, around and around until that trickling sounds of water came. Rippling the small pool's surface, without her ever touching it, as it grew larger and seemed a bit heavier.. there must have been almost two liters of water in the pot now.. " Ya can't get cleaner water in de middle o nowhere, childe. Ya drink wit' meh, yea'?"

"N-no, your accent is hard to me, many aporogies,"
Rabbit bows slightly. "My father, he also a last son of his clan, from landslide, and go far to get wife. I think it good thing!" the faint ghost of a grin touched the youth's face.

The appearance of water from iron and air gets a wide-eyed stare. "You are a shamen?" There's awed admiration in Rabbit's voice. The tall woman had to be very powerful. "Will...will you join Ghost Dance with us?" Rabbit still hesitates just a moment, but if the tall lady would drink it was probably all right. Rabbit swaps hands with the lazor and fights an arm out of Moses' coat to dip a cupped palm into the pot and drink.

"Thank you," Rabbit says with a shy smile, washing cool water over the throat-ache of tears that cannot come. "I am Screaming Rabbit. It good to drink with you. Many thanks."

Re: Chapter 3.2: The Wicasa Council ((Bear Butte))

A faint smile curled Art's lips at the question from such a man. "I be knowing very little compared to some, but I be very interested in what I do hear. From what I be understanding, the Ghost Dance be about unity. Uniting the living with the spirits of the dead. Uniting the native peoples of the land under a common belief and bringing peace and prosperity to all of the unified tribe. It be about a peaceful end to the expansion of the Europeans. Some of the Lakota be thinking that it be leading to a major transformation. That the Ghost Dance be springing up when all the other craziness come back to the world no be coincidence."

Art paused with his mouth slightly ajar then closed it before speaking again. "Though I be hoping to hear more from you, who has such great wisdom and understanding of the dance. Black Kettle be teaching us all about how to be living life the right way - now he be gone, but I did promise the great chief that we be dancing the Ghost Dance for him. I also be curious what you be thinking of this." Art lifted his staff off the ground and slowly extended it toward the Paiute.

((OOC: Tale-Telling (which is what Inspiration modifies) is used to reduce Fear levels by spreading tales of heroism and tales of beating back the darkness. It's not very useful in persuading people to do much, more to let them know that something evil was put down and won't be bothering them any more. So it's not really going to work on Little Crow himself. It's also modified by the Fear Level, so that 9 is reduced to a 5.

That said, you guys did just defeat Raven, and in the presence of people who might wish to spread the cautionary tales of the consequences of dealing with Raven. The Cheyenne dog soldiers, for instance, were considering joining up with the Ravenites before this fight, but the Tale-Telling will likely convince them otherwise. This will lower the Fear Level in this patch of the mountains (you'd need to tale-tell to the entire Wicasa Council to lower the overall Fear Level of Bear Butte), which means you've just earned the group a Legend chip.))
