"Some dark-haired, green-eyed cunt. She tossed some cards in my face at the Bella Union the other night. And I didn't touch her. You saw her, though...she was there at the boarding house. She was the one who shot me. She was with that Roger Sebastian creep and the nigger, the ones you paid the bounty to. Remember? I'm guessing all this is because she decided to sic her cult on me and you, cause she figgered we'd be at the jail all night."

Bullock stares at McCall, then nods at Wells.
"I'll be going in first and to the right. Then the next in and to the left. Wells, your last in. Spread out, make sure you got cover close by. Then follow my lead."

Re: Chapter 4.4: Cult of Worms (Deadwood)

16:09, Today: Jackie Wells rolled 8,7 using d10+2,d6+2, rerolling max with rolls of 6,5. Wouldn't shoot a man in the back..

Good, I didn't zap us all!

Deputy Wells, ignored for a moment, had retrieved an odd looking scattergun, the queerest one you ever did see, one of them New Science contraptions, obviously getting ready for the raid.

Unceremoniously, just as the Marshal concluded his orders, she turned the muzzle of the thing onto Jack McCall.  A loud static crackle hissed through the air.

4 charges, plus 1d6 for the raise, +4 for The Drop.  Hopefully I read the instructions right.

16:14, Today: Jackie Wells rolled 24 using 5d6+4, rerolling max with rolls of 1,(6+1)7,3,5,4. ... yeah I would actually.

It's set on stun, Marshal.

Re: Chapter 4.4: Cult of Worms (Deadwood)

McCall lets out a shriek loud enough to wake the dead as the coruscating red beam slams into him. He jerks and spasms as crackling red electricity dances over him, then collapses to the ground, smoking and still (though he seems to still be breathing).

The stomping inside the building suddenly stops.

"Good Work, Deputy Wells."

Bullock draws his pistol and checks once more the chambers.
Then he grabs then door handle.

"Alright, let's go!"

((Yes, I'm leaving out the part where Bullock opens the door and storms in in case the door is locked.

James looked from the fallen form of McCall to the deputy to Bullock then to Jimmy. He wasn't exactly sure what had just occurred, but it seemed a rather effective method of putting down someone. "I think we need one of those Jimmy." The gunslinger reached for his pistol but realized his inside this strange suit and can't really get to anything inside it ...

Re: Chapter 4.4: Cult of Worms (Deadwood)

The cellar door is locked, naturally, but Lonefeather waves Bullock away. "I got this." he says, kneeling and pulling a small pouch of long, thin tools from his jacket. He works the tools into the padlock. "There's a reason they call me Jimmy."

After a few deft movements with the tools, there's a click and the lock falls away.

It's quiet above. Too quiet. "As much as I admire your style, lady," Lonefeather says to Jackie, "I think you made our job harder. I think we're about to be ambushed."

((OOC: James, Jackie, I need initiative scores from you, since everyone is rolling them. I'll keep them in mind for when combat actually does start.))

Re: Chapter 4.4: Cult of Worms (Deadwood)

The dark cellar stretches before them, like the maw of some hideous beast. A chill air from within carries the stench of rot and something sickly sweet, like spoiled pears.

The place is dead silent, the silence of a hunter waiting to strike.

((OOC: Keep in mind, you are walking into a potential ambush. The initiative you rolled will only count for the turn you get to go...if you get surprised, you'll miss a turn.

You are proceeding into a place that is Pitch Dark, so there's a -4 penalty on all actions unless you get a light source going.))

Bullock throws Han an annoyed glance, but it's likerly the Chinese doctor won't be able to see it, considering the darkness.

He takes a few steps to the right, to clear himself from the rest of the group, then calls out: "This is Marshal Bullock! I'm looking for my business associate. I just have a few questions. Nobody will get harmed."

Re: Chapter 4.4: Cult of Worms (Deadwood)

"Buenos noches, Marshal." A pleasant, if creepy, voice calls from the darkness. There's a muffled quality about it, as if the speaker were behind a barrier of some sort, and there's no real way to determine the direction it's coming from. It's almost as if the darkness itself were speaking to them. "Enter freely, and of your own will. We have been waiting for your arrival. It is good of you to come."

Re: Chapter 4.4: Cult of Worms (Deadwood)

"Alas, I am afraid not, Mr. Bullock." The man replies. The voice still sounds muffled. "We are in the middle of conducting a service. It cannot be interrupted. Perhaps you should return later, if you do not feel comfortable coming in. But your friend Mr. Star might feel very differently. What do you say, Mr. Star?"

"Seth!" someone shouts. "Get out of here! These people are crazy! Run! RU~!" The shout is abruptly silenced.

"tsk. Enough of that. Well, Mr. Bullock. You have a choice to make. Come to us. You can throw down your weapons and come unarmed through the darkness, or enter armed and take your chances. But I am afraid none of us will be coming to you. And should you have any clever notions about burning us out..."

There another scream, high, shrill, and feminine, that makes Bullock's blood run cold.

"..well, you have more to lose than we do, I think."

Bullock grinds his teeth.
"Anybody has a source of light?" he asks, already knowing the answer.
"Spread out, don't fire first! It'll give away where you are. When you're threatened, retaliate. My partner's in there. I will not abandon him. Let's go!"

And with that, he dives into the darkness, turning immediately right.
