The Story So Far: Fate Chips & Experience

August 21st, 1880

The year is 1880, but the history is not our own.

The treaty city of Deadwood lies smack dab in in the middle of the Sioux Nation. It's a city on the edge. Over a third of the population makes its living from saloons, gambling, or prostitution. The knowledge that the Sioux could decide to wipe out the entire town at any time lurks in the back of every inhabitant’s mind, encouraging a philosophy of “eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we may die.” The fortunes being made in the hills around the town are spent or gambled away almost as fast as they are acquired.

But now that fragile balance is threatened. Tensions between the white man and the Sioux, never good, have been strained to the breaking point by a series of ghastly murders. The armies of the Union, no longer engaged in war with the Confederacy, turns to retake the Indian nation that was carved out of it's lands.

War is coming to the Dakotas.

The cult of Raven is stirring this pot, and when it boils over, Deadwood will be drowned in blood. But there is hope. A new movement, the Ghost Dance, is growing among the Sioux. The Ravenites will stop at nothing to stamp this fragile hope into the ground, but a small group of unlikely heroes may yet provide the key to stopping The Last Sons once and for all...

This thread will summarize Fate Chip awards, Experience for game sessions, Characters met, and a recap of events

Fate Chip Awards!

Zach O'Connor, take 1 Red chip for getting other characters to share their stories and get a bit involved with each other.

Professor, take 1 White chip for being considerate of your fellow players. I liked that.

Moses, take 1 White chip for giving me the perfect set-up for springing trouble on y'all.

Black Jack, take 1 White chip for playing up the connection with Moses.

Nate Williams...take 1 White for pity's sake. Ow.

Thunder Walker, take 1 Blue chip for your Heroism hindrance leading you in WAY over your head...and then pulling you through.

Xiaohan, take 1 Red chip for accidentally calling up that which you couldn't immediately put down, and managing to talk your way out of it.

That's all for now, folks!

Re: Fate Chip Awards!

Moses and Black Jack, you each get 1 Red chip for ending the fight without bloodshed by scaring the crap out of the mundanes with your holy magic. Moses, you get an additional Red for convincing Sam to give up.

Re: Fate Chip Awards!

Chip Audit!

Please tell me what your current Chips are! We've started the first chapter of the game. Those of you with fewer than 3 chips, draw up to 3. Most of you should have more.

Adventure Cards!

No one has spent any adventure cards during the prelude. Remember that you have these resources...you'll lose them at the end of the session. Unlike the other game I run, Adventure Cards can't be kept between sessions.

Experience Award!

Everyone gets 2 xp for the Prelude threads, bringing everyone's total to 2 XP.

Extra Credit!

If you want to earn a free chip, send me an in-character recap describing the story so far from your character's perspective. You can send this to me via PM...I'll post recaps on a shiny new thread for you all to peruse. Color of the chip awarded will depend on how interesting and creative the story you send me is. However, I know that some of you have spoilers about your characters that you may not want to reveal yet. That's fine...just give me something I can post and indicate which parts are spoilery and should be hidden.

Re: Fate Chip Awards!

I just have to award The Professor 1 Red Chip for his causal handling of high explosives.

I award Nate Williams and Black Jack 1 Red Chip each for hashing out a plan, even if they can't quite agree on the details. You both also get 1 White chip each for insights into the nature of the Flying Death menace.

Xiaohan and Moses, you each get 1 White chip for excellent RP.

Re: Fate Chip Awards!

Nate, I suppose this is a lesson for you...if you have a penalty on a roll, and roll within spitting distance of success, spend the Red chip for the bonus over blowing white chips like mad. I'll refund your white chips, but keep this lesson in mind.
