Re: Chapter 6.2: Pow Wow on the Mountain ((Bear Butte))

The other guardian makes an eerie high-pitched neighing sound, suddenly appearing out of the foliage to bring his club down at the head of the Hooded One's steed.

[[This is perhaps an odd one, as I don't know if Raven can reach far enough to First Strike over his horse's head, which might complicate things...Horse Face is aiming for the (presumably damned) horse first, from right in front.

18:33, Today: Horse Face rolled 7,4 using d8,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 7,4.  Horse Face smash! If that hitteth...
18:35, Today: Horse Face rolled 8,2 using d12+2,d8, rerolling max with rolls of 6,2.  *SMASH*. 10 damage.

Ox Head flared his lips in a way that might be akin to smiling, as the soul in his control was brought to heel.

"You are mine. You will keep watch at the gates of Hell until your penance is complete."

((OOC: I'll bind this one. 11:38, Today: Ox Head drew the single card: AC using the Deadlands system.  init.))

Re: Chapter 6.2: Pow Wow on the Mountain ((Bear Butte))

The spirit in Ox Head's grasp screams as it vanishes, pulled away from the battle and across the Hunting Grounds.

As horseface charges, the hoses starts a bit, but The Hooded One turns the motion to his advantage, maneuvering the horse so that he can bring his mighty bladed war club crashing down on the mighty ogre first!

((OOC: Alrighty, that soul is bound, and I'm removing it from the battle.

Horse Head does, in fact, have to get close enough for The Hooded One to attempt a First Strike, since his club doesn't have any Reach on it...but that's assuming the horse doesn't just bolt thanks to Fear.

09:24, Today: The Stray, for the NPC Raven's Horse, rolled 11 using 1d6, rerolling max with rolls of (6+5)11.  Fear! Success and Raise

The horse doesn't run, and The Hooded One maneuvers quickly enough to get a hit in. Since he's on horseback, he uses the lower of his Riding or Fighting (Riding in this case).

09:28, Today: Raven rolled 7,3 using d10,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 7,3.  Fighting (First Strike). Hit.

Damage: 14, which is enough to make Horse Face Shaken. Unless you spend a chip, Horse Face's attack fails.))

Re: Chapter 6.2: Pow Wow on the Mountain ((Bear Butte))

With no more need of words, the mighty river dragon hurled itself into the fray, rushing through the air with the swift fury of a rushing river towards the inferior spirits of the Ravenite Braves, ready to pound down upon them, but interposed himself between them and the shamans behind him as he pulled down to the ground.

OOC:

I believe that's another Fear tests for these guys - and probably all the other baddies that can see Yuanjiang. For what it's worth, he will also Call Weather and make it rain on them souls. Less Pacman Jones, more Lil Wayne.

I'm not sure he has enough pace to get to anyone this action, so I'll get as close to the closest enemy as possible while still interposing himself between Black Kettle and the baddies.

If he can indeed get close enough, let me know and I'll have him make an attack, but still want to keep that positioning in case his gargantuan size provides any cover or protection for Black Kettle (and Thundercat by extension).

Re: Chapter 6.2: Pow Wow on the Mountain ((Bear Butte))

The rain begins to fall as Horse Face slams his club into The Hooded One's horse, stunning it and sending the shaman scrambling to remain seated.

Meanwhile, the Yuan slowly drifts closer. The Ravenites, already panicked, can't get any more discombobulated.

However, in the sky, the mighty living thundercloud finally pulls itself together, and then, in a roar of thunder, sends a bolt of lightning at the river dragon!

Arcs of electricity light up the Yuanjiang, sending the mighty dragon spasming...but the Yuan isn't actually hurt by this. He is, however, stunned by the attack.

Wanbli Luja, still flying around the mighty fire spirit, claps his wings again, and again disperses the cloud in a thunderous boom heard across the battlefield.

((OOC: So with that chip spend, Raven's horse is Shaken. Raven attempts to remain seated.

21:27, Today: Raven rolled 7,2 using d10,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 7,2.  Riding.

Meanwhile, it'll take a few minutes for enough rain to fall to affect the battlefield.

Yuanjiang can fly with a Pace of 10, but with the Ravenites scattered all over from the panic, that doesn't help much.

The Wakinyan attempts to pull itself back together.

21:35, Today: Wakinyan rolled 19 using 1d12, rerolling max with rolls of (12+7)19.  Unshake.

Success and Raise

It's annoyed with Wanbli Luja, but an ancient enemy has just appeared. It shoots a bolt at Yuanjiang.

21:39, Today: Wakinyan rolled 5 using 1d12, rerolling max with rolls of 5.  Shooting.

Hit. This is a Fire-based attack, so Yuanjiang takes double damage. But since the Yuangjiang counts as having Heavy Armor, any damage dealt won't do more than Shake him.

Damage: 15, which is doubled to 30. The Yuanjiang is Shaken.

Wanbli Luja attempts to stun the Waknina with another Thunder burst.

21:46, Today: Wakinyan rolled 0 using 1d12-1, rerolling max with rolls of 1.  Vigor.

Fail. It's Shaken again.

As an aside, this is probably why it's storming in Deadwood right now...

21:48, Today: Wakinyan drew the single card: 10H using the Deadlands system.))

For each point of Dominion the Koyemshi wagers, it gets a +1 bonus on its roll (to a max of +2 each round).

Re: Chapter 6.2: Pow Wow on the Mountain ((Bear Butte))

The braves manage to get their mounts under control (mostly), and several of them take potshots. But they are scattered and divided.

One takes a shoat at Black Kettle, but the bullet goes wide. One takes a shot at the giant sky dragon. He hits...with about the same effect as a pebble striking a boulder.

One of them actually manages to wing Ox Head, the bullet taking him in the thigh.

Meanwhile, The Hooded One leaps off his frightened horse and stares down the horse-faced guardian. "This does not concern you, Guardian." He growls at the ogre. "But if you seek to thwart me, then you will die like all the other Guardians I've slain!"

And then he launches into a brutal attack. A dozen crushing blows rain down on Horse Face, and this warrior knows his stuff...there's a high, sharp {CRACK!} as The Hooded One drives his war club into Horse Face's ribcage.

Meanwhile, the gunslinger and the Brujo stare at their possessed comrade. "Deal with him." The Brujo growls.

The gunslinger nods. he reigns his horse in and takes aim. "Better you than me, Steve." he mutters, squeezing off a shot...but his horse bucks a bit, and the bullet goes wide.

The brujo, meanwhile, closes in on the bushes where Rabbit hides. He starts whispering. "Here, bunny bunny bunny...come to me. Come to me. I won't harm you. Come to me..."

And Rabbit feels a strange compulsion creeping into her limbs as he speaks...

((OOC: Alrighty. Checking to see if the horses Unshake. Counting The Hooded One's own horse in with this...he's the last one.

10:42, Today: Ravenite Braves rolled 7,5,3,5,3 using d6+2,d6+2,d6+2,d6+2,d6+2, rerolling max with rolls of 5,3,1,3,1.  Horse Unshake. 3 unshake, The hooded One and one of the others don't.

The three remaining Ravenites take some random potshots. One shoots at Black Kettle, one at Yuanjiang, and one at Ox Head. The Joker bonus is canceled out by the Unshake penalty.

10:48, Today: Ravenite Braves rolled 1,4,5 using d10-2,d10-2,d10-2, rerolling max with rolls of 3,6,7.  Shooting (Unsteady Platform).

Black Kettle: Miss.
Yuanjiang: Hit. 11 damage, AP 2, but these aren't heavy Weapons so the Yuan doesn't even feel it.
Ox Head: Hit. 18 damage, AP 2, which will be 1 Wound unless Ox Head soaks.

Meanwhile, Raven hops off his horse to better face Horse Face. He has Mighty Blow, so all his melee damage is doubled this round, and he has Improved Frenzy and the Joker Bonus.

10:55, Today: Raven rolled 4,8,3 using d12+2,d12+2,d6+2, rerolling max with rolls of 2,6,1.  Fighting (Joker). One Hit.

Damage: 13, doubled to 26, AP 2. That will be 3 wounds to Horse Face unless he soaks.

The Gunslinger and the Brujo have a compromised fellow and a rabbit to deal with.

The Gunslinger takes a shot at his companion, while the Brujo attempts to mind-control Rabbit with Beast Friend. The Gunslinger's Joker bonus is canceled out by the Unsteady Platform penalty.

Gunslinger: 11:01, Today: Thunder Guard rolled 2,1 using d10,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 2,1.  Shooting. Miss.

Brujo: 11:02, Today: Thunder Guard rolled 7,13 using d10+2,d6+2, rerolling max with rolls of 5,(6+5)11.  Tribal Medicine.

Rabbit, you need to roll Spirit to resist. You gain a +4 bonus because you are not, in fact, a real rabbit.

Gazes at Stars ran to Black Kettle's side and urged him forward. A short plea to the spirit of the thick-skinned armadillo of the Basin flew from his lips.

"Lend Black Kettle your strength, brave spirit!" He intoned, and grinned as the shimmering scales appeared superimposed over the other shaman.

Across the Battlefield, Koshari's host smiled wide, even as his body jerked and rebelled.

"Hey, fella, wake up. Lend a hand, would ya?" he said, raising one hand to aim his gun at the gunslinger opposite.

Meanwhile, Ox-head's slow turn to gaze at his attacker was the only sign he'd been hit.

((OOC:  Gazes runs to black kettle and stands between the shaman and the ravenites. He succeeds on Tribal Medicine, with a raise, giving Black Kettle +4 Armor for three rounds.
Gazes maintains Armor on himself until his next turn. Gazes drew 8H for init.
Koshari Gets an 8 on his spirit check, wagering 2 Dominion. If he has control, he rides towards the other gunslinger, shoots at the gunslinger with a 6, and only manages a paltry 5 damage, AP1.

The Underworld Guardian bellowed and snorted, then rushed the nearest Ravenite. Letting his massive warclub drag along the ground, he thrust out a meaty, coarse-furred hand and snared the rider's horse by the throat, hoping to remove it from the battlefield.

Re: Chapter 6.2: Pow Wow on the Mountain ((Bear Butte))

While the rest of the battle rages, the humongous brave with the humongous war club grins at Jeremy Thatcher, then screams and unleashes a super-humanly fast barrage of strikes. He's able to slip through Jeremy's defences a couple times, and the makeshift armor doesn't seem to help much against the giant's bladed club.

((OOC: So, resolving some rolls

The Manitou struggles for control: 10:35, Today: Thunder Guard rolled 4,4 using d8,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 4,4.  Dominion.

The Harrowed gains 1 point of Dominion, putting him at -3.

Meanwhile, the horse is Shaken, so I roll for the Ravenite to keep his seat.

10:41, Today: Ravenite Braves rolled 8 using 1d10, rerolling max with rolls of 8.  Riding.

That's a success (and raise, but that doesn't matter here.)

Now Rotten Bear Killer goes. He has Quickness going (2 rounds left) and the Improved Frenzy edge. So he goes to town on Jeremy with a Wild Attack on the first action (which allows him to avoid the Parry penalty, because he takes his next action immediately after -- see this ruling). For his second action, he does a normal Frenzy attack. Jeremy's Armor is reduced thanks to the Armor Piercing on RBK's bladed war club.

Action 1: 10:48, Today: Rotten Bear Killer rolled 7,10,4 using d10+2,d10+2,d6+2, rerolling max with rolls of 5,8,2.  Fighting (Wild Attack, Improved Frenzy). One hit

Damage: 17, AP 2. That's 1 Wound unless Jeremy soaks.

Action 2: 10:53, Today: Rotten Bear Killer rolled 13,8,9 using d10,d10,d6, rerolling max with rolls of (10+3)13,8,(6+3)9.  Fighting (Improved Frenzy). 2 hits, 1 Raise

Damage 1 (Raise): 11, AP 2. That's only a Shaken thanks to Jeremy's Armor power.
Damage 2: 14, AP 2. That's 1 wound unless Jeremy soaks.

Jeremy's blade and shield moved with nearly the speed of his foe's weapon. Re: Chapter 6.2: Pow Wow on the Mountain ((Bear Butte))

The Ravenite doesn't even have time to scream as the might of the river dragon's wrath falls on him, and he vanishes underneath Yuanjiang's talons.

Black Kettle continues running toward the slowly closing portal...and leaps through it.

He's safe, but the portal is shrinking.

((OOC: Yup, that's a smashing success (yuk, yuk) and the Raveninte goes squish. Since he's a spirit, the Yuan can either bind him for 7 years or consume his essence.

Meanwhile, Black Kettle gets a 2 on his Run die, which is just enough to make it to the portal. He is now out of combat.))

Re: Chapter 6.2: Pow Wow on the Mountain ((Bear Butte))

The large mountain lion bounded after the chiefs towards the closing portal, scanning the battlefield for his allies before he did so, standing a distance away from it, ready to bound in when needed.

OOC:

Between Pace, Run, and Pounce, I've got 14 squares of movement. I'd like to use it to move within his Pace (8) of the Portal, but sort of down and to the left diagonally. That way, he can cover the retreat of any of his allies that approach, but still have enough pace to jump in before the portal closes.

OOC:

There's only one card worse than this:

12:50, Today: Thunder Walker drew the single card: 2D using the Deadlands system.  Initiative!
