Re: General Discussion, and not so Major Issues

Some questions to ponder:

What are the "giants" referred to in Genesis? (Dinosaurs?  Large men?  Something else?)

What did Moses smash when he came and saw the wickedness of his people?

What exactly was Cain's "curse"?

What happened to Jericho exactly?  To Sodom and Gomorrah?

How does one get turned into a pillar of salt?

Where did Noah live "before" the flood?

Where is the Garden of Eden right now?

Are there demons or evil spirits, and if so, what exactly are they?

Are there ghosts, and if so, what exactly are they?

Are there guardian angels, and if so, who are they?

Re: General Discussion, and not so Major Issues

I'll answer you on some of the questions:

Heath:
What are the "giants" referred to in Genesis? (Dinosaurs?  Large men?  Something else?)

Giants are giants. Tall people, of course. Where are they today? well, they were all killed by the Israelites.
Heath:
What did Moses smash when he came and saw the wickedness of his people?

You mean when he descended from mount Sinai? If not, tell me what you mean. If you do mean then, he broke the 'Luhot Habrit', which is where the ten commandments were written (and some say where the whole Tora was written).
Heath:
What exactly was Cain's "curse"?

Cain neither cursed, nor was cursed (at least not that I remember). Sorry - wait - here it is: (let's start from the beginning) Cain was a farmer, and his brother Havel (or however you spell his name) was a shepard. One day, both of them brought a gift to god. Cain brought some of his best fruits and vegetables, and Havel brought his best sheep. God took only Havel's gift, and so Cain was mad and threw a large rock over his brother's head and killed him. Then, god said that the ground (that took his brother's blood) will curse Cain (and because he was a farmer, a curse of the ground can be vert painful)
Heath:
What happened to Jericho exactly?  To Sodom and Gomorrah?

Jericho - her walls fell straight into the ground, and as for Sodom and Gomorrah - no one knows (but they were destructed somehow).
Heath:
How does one get turned into a pillar of salt?

It was a miracle.
Heath:
Where did Noah live "before" the flood?

I believe it says it's in Nod, east of Eden.
Heath:
Where is the Garden of Eden right now?

It was approx. where Iraq is today, but right now, it might be in the sky or something, or at least a place where no human can get to.
Heath:
Are there demons or evil spirits, and if so, what exactly are they?

Are there ghosts, and if so, what exactly are they?

Are there guardian angels, and if so, who are they?

I don't think there are any of the above, though I don't know exactly. I believe each man has an evil inclination and a good inclination inside him (called in hebrew the Yetzarim).

pass, I thought your answers were very interesting.  I thought the following statement was one of the most ironic considering the current state of affairs in the world:

Perhaps, but if you look at the names of the rivers in the Eden garden, you'll see they are the same like the rivers in Iraq.

But couldn't those rivers have been named long after the Garden of Eden?  I mean, presumably, the language spoken in the Garden of Eden was a language lost at the time of the Tower of Babel, and after the Flood, Noah's descendants would have been renaming places according to their familiar names anyway.  Example, we have have "New York," "New Jersey," "New Mexico," "New Hampshire" in modern times.  My understanding is the ancient people were much the same.

I know there are demons. They try and influence, they try and take over people. They are evil spiritual beings. Fallen angels.
Ghosts are demons. They are not good ghosts, they are evil. Some try and pretend to be good, so that people think the speaking to the dead thing is real. Ouji board, seances, those who hypnotize, may believe they are communicating with ghosts, or the dead spirits, but it's all demons.
Guardian angels you probably wouldn't know they are there. But they are spiritual beings. Angels.
Ephesians 6:12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Re: General Discussion, and not so Major Issues

Rogue- I think we're on pretty much the same page with the "demons" idea.

Same with ghosts, except I think there are various types, not all servants of evil.  (In the LDS religion, the afterlife is believed to be here on earth, just in a different state of existence, so other theories about ghosts are possible; however, like you said we are also told not to participate in seances or to use Ouji Boards or other such things.)

Guardian angels.  What is the definition of an angel?  I always believed that your family members who have passed on look out for you and may have specific jobs to help and protect the family unit after they pass on.  [Sure beats twiddling your thumbs for eternity. :) ]

Re: General Discussion, and not so Major Issues

Oi >< That's not what I believe at all! I think that Ghosts exist in a variety of forms and alignments. I've met quite a few myself (not on purpose) and I've come to know something about them sorta. I don't know the official Jewish outlook, but I know mine ^^ Some are good, some are bad. If you get a good ghost, you better be thanking whatever higher power you believe in. The general tendency, in my experience, is for them to turn bad... so watch out ^^

The scary ghosts, the ones that do hauntings and stuff, those are the BAD ghosts. They are bad news, they normally take an exorcism of some type.

Poltregeists are even more fun... not... There's a theory, and I believe in it, that says that they are the outlash of teenage/adolescent kids and their anger, resentment, etc.

And let me give a warning... Ouji boards are seriously tricky, if you don't mind using them, you must be very careful, because if you word ANY questions incorrectly, that can invite the ghost you're conversing with to enter the "physical world," in other words, you are inviting it to haunt you personally ^^ Your best bet=don't use 'em!

Sorry, now that Magic is done with the warnings and such, ^^ we can go on ^^
