Maybe they'll hide it from her to keep up the positive relationship. Next time they try to escape and are caught it should be reversed. I'm not saying this because I want to torture my character too (even though it's so fun) but it's what Dr. Horrible would suggest. He'd want to see how Susan would react, and make her feel guilty, possibly protective of William.
