"Can you heal yourself?"  She asked in a whisper looking towards the door.

"Your dad should be here soon, I called him and told him what happened.  He's probably already here talking to the doctors come to think of it.  Do you want anything?"

"It usually works you know automatically on me that's why I am so surprised. Yeah Dad will want to find out everything from the doctors.  Smuggle me in real food. I work here I know what the patients get." He gives a yuck look.

Zoey nods, "Yeah you've told me stories about the food here.  I'll see what I can do. Anything in particular or just surprise you?  I'll order it and have it delivered and sneak it in."

"Nothing too spicey but I am ok with almost anything. I hope the doctors figure out what is up."

"I'll go see if I can find out something. Be right back."

Zoey got up and walked to the door and looked out into the hallway for Sam's dad or a doctor.

She sees them talking down the hall.

She closes the door behind her and waits for the adults to finish talking, not wanting to be rude by interrupting.  While she waited she used the food app on her phone to order burgers and fries, with instructions to page her at the information desk upon arrival.

While the doctors were down the hall, and Zoey was waiting for them to speak to her, Susan slipped quietly into Sams room.  Smiling sheepishly,  she walked quietly to his bedside,  as if afraid some nosy nurse would here her unauthorized presence and toss her out like a scrubs wearing, underpaid bouncer in the WORST nightclub ever
The buxom brunette gave him a little wave as she moved quickly to sit in a chair at his side, handing him a get well card.
Inside the envelope was a greeting card from the hospital gift shop.
The cover said "Don't worry!  This hospitals crack staff will have you fixed up in no time!"
Opening the flap, Sam would see that inside the card was an old "Far Side" cartoon, with a surgical team around a patient.   The doctor says "Well, that's it.  The operation was a complete success!    By the way...has anyone seen my watch?"
Susan sat, somewhat nervously,  absent mindedly smoothing out the hem of her dress, and shrugged with a smile.
"I wanted to get you a gift,  but the shop's selection seemed limited to '80 year old lady with new hip' and '6 year old getting tonsils out'.  And you didn't seem the type to appreciate a Dora the Explorer Bravery Badge,  or a book about how great like was back in the 50s."

"Oh I dont know, a bravery badge might be nice." Sam smiled slightly.

"I just don't know how I got sick. I know it is silly but I forgot how much it sucks."

Susan smiled.
"I'll see what I can do the next time you end up in the hospital "
She looked out the window, feeling a but awkward.   She was talking to her old friend, but he wouldn't have realized that.  It seemed so long ago, and they'd literally been different people back then.
Just one of the stranger ways her life had changed.

Susan smiled awkwardly.
"I'm sorry I wasn't here sooner, but the second my mother heard that someone was sick, I had to spend 20 minutes convincing her that you weren't contagious.  She still gave me some surgical masks to wear."

"I hope I am not if I am though I should charge for getting people out of school." Sam smirked to Susan.

Susan chuckled.
"I'll owe you one.   The next time I'm in the hospital....and we both know it's coming, I'll send you an E-vite."

Zoey walked over towards Sam's dad, "Um, hi Mr. Clay.  Do they know what's going on with Sam yet?"

"The doctor said he was very dehydrated and his electrolytes are very low. Was there any drinking going on at your get together ?" answered Sam's dad.

Zoey gasped lightly in surprise.  "No of course not, sir.  My dad would never allow that.  And I know how important football is to Sam, we wouldn't do anything to mess that up."

She glanced back towards Sam's room, "He'll be okay though, right?"

Sam's father said, "Well the doctors say he needs to stay a couple of days for them to monitor him. It's strange this is the first time he has gotten sick since he was little."

"Is it okay if my sister and I come back tomorrow to visit?  They're working on the science fair together, and I know he doesn't want to fail."

"Of course, I think it will help keep his spirits up. I didn't know you had a sister though."

She smiled, "Yeah, I just found out myself actually.  My little sister took it upon herself to find me and get our family back together."

"That's great to hear. I am happy for you Zoey. I am sure I will see you tomorrow. I am going to let Sam get some sleep."

"Thank you.  See you tomorrow.  Oh, I ordered some food for Sam since the food here is really gross and shouldn't even be qualified to be called food. It should be here soon, and then Amanda and I will leave too."

"Alright but nothing that will dehydrate him more, ok."

She smiled and nodded, then went to go meet the food delivery for Sam.

A shadow drifts down from Sam's body floating through the bed, the floor and leaps out of the room below moving off.
