"Cool. Okay, which button do we push next? Im not big on puzzles but this looks like it could be fun to figure out."

Rory examined the machine, pointing to one of the buttons. "Apparently, that one turns it on and off. I still haven't worked out what the other ones do."

Rory pressed the on button, and then tried tinkering with the others to figure out what they did.

Otto squeaked and ran off into the water.

There were all kinds of buttons and dials. Right now the device was set very low.

Rory attempted to tinker with the buttons while keeping the amplification dial relatively low.

The sand nearby seemed to be shifting a bit as if in response to the vibrations which can't be felt by Rory or Zoey yet.

Rory continued his investigation blissfully unaware of the shifting sand.

Zoey watched Otto run off into the water before turning her attention back to Rory's new toy.

"I was just thinking. We should go somewhere this thing wont hurt anybody if we push a few buttons. Like out in the middle of nowhere."

She frowned looking towards the water. "If we do it underwater it could cause a tsunami which would cause major problems everywhere. What about going to flat lands, like in the mid west?"

Rory still seemed focused on the machine. " If you vibrate hard rock, it can create shock-waves that travel hundreds of miles. I was hoping that the sand around here would muffle the vibration."

"If we knew just how powerful it was for sure, then I'd say go for it. But we're too close to the water here and it could still cause problems."

It is then that Rory recognizes the sand forming patterns and reforming patters.

Rory nodded. "I know, you're right." Shortly after, he was distracted by the surrounding patterns. He pointed towards the edge of the circle and turned to Zoey. "It's quite beautiful isn't it?"

Yes to Rory the patterns were fascinating and beautiful it wasnt just random drifting of the sand. There was something there like a pictographic language.

Rory seemed to be talking to himself as he went on. "It's almost like a pictographic language."

The teen took out his phone and began taking a video of the patterns.

Zoey looked at the ground confused a moment. "That device is doing this? It's a language?"

Rory shook his head. "I'm not sure. It could be recording a natural phenomenon such as the sand's quantum fluctuations or molecular vibrations..."

Rory tried to figure out what the waves represented.

Zoey looked at Rory with a blank expression. "What? English Rory."

Rory seemed slightly confused by the question, almost as if he had forgotten that Zoey was there. "Oh. Hum... It's possible that the vibrations are causing the sand to ripple in a specific pattern like when you throw a rock in water."

Rory realizes he doesnt have his phone with him.

He figures out the patterns are being created by the device. Also it seems to be that these are like sound based movements of sugar or other light powderd. It was a language a musical and mathmatic one.

In reply to Rory Terrance (msg # 29):

"Um, okay."  She nodded and looked at the patterns on the ground and watched them closely.

Rory shook his head as he observed the sand. "No, that definitely is a language. There seems to be a mathematical, almost musical consistency to it."

He turned to Zoey. "Hum... I seem to have left my phone at home. Do you mind recording this for me Zoey?"

"I left mine in your car in case we went swimming, but sure. Hold on and I'll grab it."

She looked at the pattern again, "Musical language. You know my parents are musicians, maybe they can help us figure out that language."

Zoey walks back to the car to get her phone.

When she gets back with her phone, "Sam and Allura could probably figure out the music language too. Any of them would be good choices."
