The lumbering image he was watching sent a small doubt into his being that he rejected due to his hatred of all beings of chaos.

Ooc: he would try to dispell the summoning first with Dispel Magic. If he cant then he will drain his hit points to launch a fireball at the nurgle image.

09:42, Today: Konad Magnos rolled 13 using 3d6. Fright chk /15.

09:38, Today: Konad Magnos rolled 8 using 3d6. fireball at nurgle image/16

Re: Chapter 3: Confrontations

You all roll and tumble out of the wagon, but years of experience, and an alertness born out of necessity on your difficult journey thus far, got you untangled and prepared quickly. It wasn't until you were all set, facing the thing, that you saw Pip, about five yards ahead of you, between your group and the demon. He had apparently been thrown a lot farther than the rest of you, and the hideous thing noticed him immediately. "Children, they always do taste so... fresh"

The demon lumbered forward, its smell bringing bile to your mouths, when a ragged, short, figure hobbles out of the wreckage to your left. He positions himself in between Pip and the Great Unclean One, and windmills his arms a few times, whipping a broken chain around each of his clenched fists. "You'll have to get through me first ya bastard!" Stanauch shouted up defiantly, the chaos demon nearly on top of him. Without waiting on a reply, he sprinted forward, leaped into the air and screamed something in Dwarven as he drove one of his chain wrapped fists in a flying attack, into the Unclean One's right knee.

As he did so, Nigel sent an arrow flying at one of the creature's eyes, and Konrad loosed a fireball. Agony seared through the mage, as the surge of magic stole away some of his life force. The combined three attacks enraged the demon, but caused him to stumble. Groggily, Pip got to his feet, still apparently oblivious to the horror that was only a few feet away, but Stanauch's attack might just have given him the moment he needs to escape.

Bjorn: Not much more than you already know. Your best bet is likely to banish it. It can be harmed by physical attacks, and is vulnerable to fire and your own holy attacks, but it heals quickly, and is extremely tough.

"Stanauch!" said Bjorn, his eyes stern and fierce. "In honor of your brethren, the Dwarves who crafted me this warhammer—and in honor of those who did likewise for Our Lord Sigmar in ages past—I expect this back. Are we clear?"

With that, he hurled his flaming weapon toward the prisoner and began to work a spell from behind his buckler.

"Hold him off for me! I'll take care of the vile demon in a few seconds."

Re: Chapter 3: Confrontations

As soon as the priest had assured him his blade would effect the creature - however little - the Count smiled grimly to himself. "Good."

A moment later the field exploded into action, and Nik sprang forward along with the rest of the ragged company. He was surprised by their prisoner's action, but didn't have time to contemplate the ultimate consequences of Staunach's suicidal bravery - the man may be a prisoner, may be bound for the gallows, but for now he was fighting at their side. For now he was as good as any Ranger, he was one of them - and that at least granted him the luxury of dying in company.

I'm not sure how far away the Demon is, but I'm going to Move toward it until I'm close enough to engage with my sword.

Re: Chapter 3: Confrontations

Konrad began the workings of another fireball spell, focusing past the searing agony it generated within him.

Nigel screams at Pip drawing both the boy's and the demon's attention. In that moment Pip seemed to feel the presence of the demon, and with a terrified, incoherent, scream, fled into the billowing smoke. Nigel fired another shot at the demon, trying to cover the boy's retreat, and buried another shaft into the demon's eyes.

Grigory and Nikolaas both rushed forward to confront the chaos monster before them. Bjorn's hammer sailed overhead, swerved suddenly and flew into Stanauch's hand. The Dwarf was just regaining his feet, and he looking rather surprised to see the hammer there. The shock was quickly replaced by a grim smile, and he squinted up at the demon.

The Great Unclean One rolled its shoulders and then sprung, lightning fast. It swung downwards with its great sword at Stanauch, but the Dwarf actually caught the blade on Bjorn's hammer. He was knocked back down to his knees, but the weapon held. With the other arm the Unclean One flung out its flail, the spiked ball on the end as big around as a wagon wheel flying straight for Grigory.

Konrad began charging a fireball

Nigel The demon is about 12 feet tall which nets you a size +2 modifier, I'm sorry for being unclear. You did hit.

Nik and Grigory are now within melee range of the demon

Grigory must dodge or take 5d6 crushing damage.

Caveat: The demon can deal a lot of damage. Please know that I determine targets randomly. I am not trying to single out anyone for destruction.

Re: Chapter 3: Confrontations

Rufus had smelled a smell like this creature's before. It's stink was overpowering, but it familiar - many months ago, in the depths of the sewers of Nuln, rats the size of Rufus' master brewed in a cauldron a vile substance that smelled the same as this creature. When he was scared, Rufus still worried at the scars that he had taken fighting with his master to escape that den. The patches of skin where fur would never grow back because the rats had vomited their scalding and acidic alchemy at them.

And just like then, Rufus knew that there was only one way he and his master would survive, and that was to fight as if they would not. To bite and tear and rend whatever stood in their way until they could smell air that was clean again. With all his might, Rufus lunged at the hand that had struck his master, and resolved not to let it go until it broke off and came away in his jaws.

Maneuver: AoA (Strong) bite to the hand holding the flail. Hits!
If the Demon does not defend, it takes 7 cutting damage to the hand.

Re: Chapter 3: Confrontations

The Count entered the fray with his usual bold aggression, the overconfidence he normally felt mixed now with a greasy feeling of terror; he always fought expecting to die, but had seldom feared for his very soul.

As the distance closed he blocked out the sounds of the battle around him, focusing only on his bloated, hideous target. He noted with horror the shot that felled Grigory, and then saw that the rat-catcher had somehow kept his footing; at once shaken and inspired, the Count let out a bloody battlecry and - moving as though charged by the same order as Rufus had been - swung his sword hard down upon the Demon's hand.

Okay, this will be a Mighty Targeted Attack at the hand holding the flail - I doubt very much we'll be able to take the thing off, but I'm as committed to ruining his hand modelling career as the rest of you!

08:54, Today: Nikolaas von Richtgraf rolled 5 using 3d6. Mighty TA Hand Attack (14). Goddammit, I knew I should have made that a Rapid Attack! And it's this close to being a Critical!? F*CK YOU, CHAOS GODS!

Anyway, potential damage.
09:02, Today: Nikolaas von Richtgraf rolled 15 using 1d6+9. Swing Damage to Hand (Cut). Awwww, yeah!

Re: Chapter 3: Confrontations

The dust settled and it became obvious that Grigory was still standing. Grievously injured the ratcatcher rasped out a command to his trusty dog. "Your insolence is... frustrati-AAARRRRGH!" His taunt turned into a scream as he was hit by Nikolaas', Rufus', and Nigel's attacks. Forgetting Stanauch for a moment, the Great Unclean One swung his sword in a slashing movement at Nikolaas, while simultaneously dropping his flail and flinging Rufus at Nigel.

Konrad finishes his spell, and hurls another fireball at the Great Unclean One.

Nikolaas you must defend (sword counts as a heavy weapon of you want to parry) or take 5d cutting damage.

Nigel, if you do not defend, calculate as slam damage. Rufus has flown about 5 yards at you.

Konrad, you take another 2HP damage from this most recent attack

-2 HP falling damage.

I couldn't see anything that automatically makes Rufus fall down on a fall (please correct me if I missed something), so since damage was so low I think he can attack:

Maneuver: AoA (Strong) bite to the hand holding the sword. -2 due to shock. Hits!

Re: Chapter 3: Confrontations

The Count eyed his adversary like a cat as it reeled back it's wounded hand, springing backward just as lightly when the creature counterattacked; the massive sword smashed into the ground before Nik's feet, raising a brief cloud of dust but having no other effect. In the momentary silence that followed - a fraction of a second, perhaps - he took in the state of the battlefield and decided to change his tactics. They needed to buy time, and he knew how to get it.

"Ha!" He barked a forced laugh through the fading dust cloud, sneering into the demon's face. "You're pretty good against little kids and dogs, now let's see how you fare against a man - come, monster! Surely you can do better than that!"

08:33, Today: Nikolaas von Richtgraf rolled 9 using 3d6. Retreating Dodge (13). Phew!

I'm not sure how to do this, but I want to try and taunt the demon to keep it's attention on me rather than on Grigory or Bjorn. Just for a sense of completeness I'll give a Diplomacy roll, but I don't think that's really appropriate - for the record I'm not trying to stop combat, just control the flow a little.

08:38, Today: Nikolaas von Richtgraf rolled 14 using 3d6. His mother was a hamster! (11).

Nigel's shot flew wide, Bjorn moved closer, and was now 4 yards away, still chanting, and Konrad started up another fireball. Rufus landed on his feet and darted back into the action, making a snarling lunge at the Great Unclean One. The thing, though moved its hand out of the way just in the nick of time, and used its sword to attempt to parry Grigory's slash. The ratcatcher, injured as he was, though, got around the defense, and opened up the creature's neck. Bile and other foul smelling liquids poured out, showering him in filth.

Nik avoided his attack, and taunted the creature and Ogindur, miraculously appearing out of the smoke, takes a position between Grigory and the monster.

The demon, quickly strikes two savage blows at the Count and the newly arrived dwarf.

The demon's attack came to ruin upon the sturdily held aegis that Ogindur had always used to such awesome effect. In the back of his mind, however, the beardy dwarf worried about his charge and could tell by the feeling of the impact that the demon's swing was as deadly as it was cruel. Demons always seemed to be powerful to the members of non-chaos species but Ogindur would show equal might.

The dwarf pumped his legs, running forward to slam the base of his shield into the Demon, hoping to knock it to the floor.
