My Zombie deck doesn't deserve the name. It's like a low budget asylum or SyFy production.

I'll try to make sure some of them come out in the games we play!

Hopefully Ray will be ready to start up that Multiplayer game again soon...

So, refresher...

How do we handle cards that let me look at an opponent's cards, but they aren't supposed to know what they are?

Can you say which card you are referring to?  So I can better visualise what you are trying to achieve?

Well, Gonti Lord of Luxury was the one that got me thinking about it, but there's a bunch of them. Like Phyrexian Portal, Fortune's Favor, Grimoire Thief, Praetor's Grasp, etc.

The player who plays them forfeits the game, due to them being impossible to resolve in a PbP format :)

Phrexian Portal
http://magiccards.info/ai/en/168.html
{3}: If your library has ten or more cards in it, target opponent looks at the top ten cards of your library and separates them into two face-down piles. Exile one of those piles. Search the other pile for a card, put it into your hand, then shuffle the rest of that pile into your library.

Well that one is easy  you show your library to your opponent and they tell you how many cards are in each pile.  You then choose one of the piles and your opponent tells you what cards were in it and you exile them.   The other pile you choose a card from it and then shuffle it back into your library and continue.

Fortune's Favor
http://magiccards.info/emn/en/61.html
Target opponent looks at the top four cards of your library and separates them into a face-down pile and a face-up pile. Put one pile into your hand and the other into your graveyard.

Very similar process to above

Grimoir Thief
http://magiccards.info/mt/en/35.html
Whenever Grimoire Thief becomes tapped, exile the top three cards of target opponent's library face down.

You may look at cards exiled with Grimoire Thief.

{U}, Sacrifice Grimoire Thief: Turn all cards exiled with Grimoire Thief face up. Counter all spells with those names.

This one is pretty tricky since your opponent shouldn't get to see which three cards you've exiled.  I would say that this one is definitely unplayable in this format... unless you enlist the help of a third party to "hold" your deck for you and deal you cards.

Praetor's Grasp
http://magiccards.info/nph/en/71.html
Search target opponent's library for a card and exile it face down. Then that player shuffles his or her library. You may look at and play that card for as long as it remains exiled.

Same for this one, the opponent shouldn't see which card you are choosing from his deck...  and similar for Gonti, Lord of Luxury I see.

Re: OOC Chatter Mk III

Hey guys, I've just joined, mainly looking to play EDH, Tiny leaders, and to bounce some decklists around. My favorite EDH is a Melek spellslinger deck, but it would probably be a nightmare to play on here, and it's also not much fun to play against, because I usually reserve it for douchey opponents... So I doubt you'll see much of it. I'm also working on a loosely Garruk themed EDH, which I'd appreciate suggestions for once I get the decklist up.

I'm up for a game, however I play mainly untuned multiplayer style decks with mostly old cards. They are generally slow and you'll probably win. :)

How do you know which would have been the top 10 though? And more importantly how do you know without letting ME know what the top ten were?

Re: OOC Chatter Mk III

It doesn't matter.  You get to search the not exiled pile, so therefore you know (by deduction) what cards were in the other pile.  The only bit you don't know is which cards are in which pile when you make the choice to exile them.   You rely on your opponent being honest and picking the pile you chose.

I'm a big fan of EDH as well...  sounds like we can probably fire up another table and get another EDH game running...  I'll open a table and we'll see who else joins us :-)

The point is you aren't supposed to know what either pile has before you choose.

It can make a bit of difference if You know that the top 10 cards are all Swamps or something, or if part of your killer combo is in there versus not knowing anything about which cards were in the top 10 as choices.

Interesting infinite combo you have there, Mr roboto. Is that the deck's primary gameplan?

But if you don't know what the top 10 cards were, how does your opponent to put them in piles?
