Ah, the joy of playing with counterspells in a pbp format.

That's why a lot of times if you think your opponent might have a counter and it matters to the rest of the turn, you can stop and ask if there is any responses before continuing with your turn.

I just haven't really done that because I'm running a lot of BIG creatures, so if they get countered I'm still tapped out and there's nothing I can do about it.

I didn't see any counters last game, so I wasn't sure if Matt had any. There were a lot of points where having a counterspell would have been pretty handy for him.

Yeah - I tweaked the deck between games to add a few cards in, one of which was that Counterspell...  In fact, it was the first card I fetched!  :-)

So question regarding the legality of playing certain cards. If you wnted to use a card with draft functionality, in a non draft format, like for example... Paliano Vangaurd

http://mythicspoiler.com/cn2/c...palianovanguard.html

Is it OK, to just play him for 1W as a 2/2 Human Soldier if you wanted to, and ignore all his draft related powers? Or does the fact that he's explicitly for draft games mean he's not legal in other formats?

If it's like how they dealt with the previous Conspiracy set, All the non-Conspiracy type cards will be legal in Commander, though the ones mostly reliant on Draft are going to not be particularly useful. This means like things like Melee, Goad, Will of the Council, and being a Monarch will all be on the table for Commander games.

FYI, I'm probably going to be off-line for most of the next week...   I may get on, and I hope to have my laptop with me - but I can't guarantee to be able to post.   Sorry in advance in case I can't.

Met Fischer (an M:tG artist) yesterday at DragonCon. He was not the only one in attendance and everyone I met was super awesome, but he was the only one advertising that he'd sign his own cards. I'd purchased two packs in the vendor area earlier and asked him if he knew how lucky I was. He shrugged and I pulled the packs from my pocket, asking him if what cards he'd recently done work on. He mentioned Dark Confidant, which I think he's pretty proud of since he talked about it, but then went on to say that he'd recently, in the most recent Conspiracy set, done the work on "Burning Wish."

I opened the first pack and thumbed to the rare, a card that was definitely not Burning Wish. I scowled. "Hunh," I said as I grabbed the other pack. Mr. Fischer looked at my brother for a moment as I popped it open and went straight for the rare.

"Is this your card," I asked as I showed him "Burning Wish."

It was a pretty good moment. He signed it, which may or may not effect the value of the card, but I'll always have that memory.

Hi there!

I'm a player with ancient cards from Revised onwards mainly.

I'm not sure what rules sets my cards would come under to make playing them legal, (and am too lazy to look) so I am looking for brave souls willing to leap in against my decks as they are.

Most of my decks are untuned multiplayer style with no Revised era multilands (I sold all mine off) years ago. There are no Moxes, Black Lotus' or vice/land destruction/insane killer variations... But there are mixes of cards which come from all sorts of sets from Revised through to whatever was around 10-15 years ago :D

If anyone wants a game, let me know :)

legacy and vintage are probably solid formats for you. You might be able to pull off EDH/Commander if you bought up any Legends packs, but not buying more intermediary packs (Odyssey, Kamigawa block, Zendikar kinda stuff) might make that pretty hard.

On the other hand, not owning the cards physically is not necessarily an impediment to playing them here.

Frequently I do a bit of research, put together my virtual deck here, play a few rounds to see if that works, and then build the physical one.

I also buy stupid amounts of cards IRL.

Since you and I seem to be awake at similar time How about we give an stragglers until matt placeholder is filled? I mean it's not like you could do your next turn without him anyway.

Also Spoiler about my deck "clerics, and angels, and zombies?!, oh my!"

What does 'an stragglers' mean? :)

I didn't mean for you to delete your first turn, merely that I wouldn't start the second round, turn 1 for most players is just placing a land.

Looks interesting...  I ran it through my spreadsheet and it appears to be Legacy legal...  so you probably have scope to add a few other cards...  Death Baron is always another good zombie deck booster.

Don't post them all - playing against unknown cards is the most entertaining part of the game... If you know the makeup of the deck you are playing against, then it could alter your playing decisions (and certainly your deck building decisions if you know before you start the game!).

Absolutely.   I usually play the same deck multiple times, tuning it before archiving it ready to bring out later.   On the archive tab of my spreadsheet, I have about 120 decks that Ive developed over the years - some are duplicates with minor tweaks.  Some are useless and will never see the light of day again.  Some regularly get dusted off and pulled out - usually when new people join the board who won't have seen them before!
