Re: Issue
Kurt heard Hoffman. He knew better. He had held her, she was dead. But now she was alive.

"That demon was banished thanks to you Alicia. You are a hero." Kurt said with an encouraging smile.

Re: Issue
Kurt still a bit too stunned and confused to discuss politics looked at the Shroud, hoping the hero could read his thoughts. That he would volunteer to help the girl and maybe recruit her to join his organization.

He also noticed that change in Black Dog. It seemed odd that someone with the ability to transform into a big white dog would be called Black Dog, but that would have to wait.

Re: Issue
Jacques nods and smiles at Hoffman's remark. The old German was not one to issue complements lightly. As was so often the case, when he did he was on point.

"An exceptional group, yes. But as for our Irish friend, I have no idea what has happened. He came into close contact with the ancient horror. Perhaps it had some affect on him."

Jacques turns aside as if listening to Kurt's thoughts.

"Oui, she is also an exceptional woman. I am certain I can find a place for her if she would like to come with us. But perhaps it is best if you make the invitation."

Re: Issue
The Black Knight:
"But why would they imprison me in Washington? Last I heard, my homeland and the United States were on good terms? What has happened???"

Cleo's eyebrows raise, and he scratches his chin as he replies to The Black Knight. "To tell you the truth, I don't pay much attention to politics so I don't know what terms they're on. But what you just did defies understanding and people don't like what they don't understand. Most of 'em get downright scared of it."
"You scare that many people, and the government'll lock you up for your own good. Besides, I'm sure there's a machine or two that wouldn't mind havin' you on staff."

Re: Issue
Hearing Shroud's answer to his unasked question, Kurt looked down at Alicia.

"Senorita, it is your choice, but if you wish you are welcome to come with us when return to America. Monsuier Dufay has, as you just heard, offered you a place in his organization. This is not charity. This is in recognition of your valor and loyalty."

"I know this is a big decision so if you want to think about it, take your time. If you decide to come I promise no one will stop you."

As the boat chugs back to shore, Pyrebird easily finds a mirror to show Black Dog his new countenance.

Alicia smiled at Patriot, but then she hestitated.  "But... my guardian, Senor Sanchez?" she asked with a knitted brow.

"I am certain he can be persuaded." Kurt replied. Her guardian, Senor Sanchez was an oily man with bad intentions. To leave her within his grasp was not an acceptable option.

Taking the offered miror, Black Dog pulls what's left of his mask of with the other hand, sofocused has he does so he doesn't even notice the changes it's gone thru. Turning his head this way and that, opening his mouth and twitching his ears, he looks up at Pyrebird and, forgetting for the moment who he's talking to he says the first things that pop into his head, the effort to reman calm obvious "wha happened?  and I naid two drinks now"

Silver Dragon responds to Black Dog's question. "When I was healing you, I noticed something; an energy in you which didn't seem right, perhaps a holdover from the demon's dimension?  Apparently it has affected you, changed you."

And he didn't say aloud what he thought next, 'and it could have been much much worse'.

Re: Issue
Letting the information offer by The Bowler sink in, the Knight struggled to understand a world that did not accept miracles and acts of faith.

He had had but a little time during the great War to learn of the changes time had wrought, and most of then involved the technologies of war, the amazing flying machines, with their daring young men, and the metal beasts that plied land and sea.

Clearly they had not forgotten the lord, but had their faith wavered so greatly?

Rather then ask such questions, he watches as the pale dog-faced man dealt with his conversion, albeit of another sort.

Silver Dragon wondered, was the Black Knight real, or would he vanish into the ether...?

He tried to ask politely, and thought about it for awhile,

"Do you eat food?  They have these amazing things here called TACO's."

Feeling his new ears and nose wtitch, Black Dog actually reaches up and touches one ear..then the other..then his nose, not surprised to find it cold and wet, then his hand carches his eye, coverd in soft white fur like the miror shows on his face, and his hert begins to race as he realsies things mae be even more weird than her realised.

Jacques sees Black Dog touching his fur and face and realizes that the man was not expecting the changes that came over him. He had begun to grow accustomed to people doing peculiar things. This clearly was even more peculiar than usual.

"Are you alright, mon ami?" he asks Black Dog. "Your encounter with that thing has left a mark it would seem."

"No, I no longer eat, though it was one of the my three favorite things," he answered with a wink.

Hearing Shrouds concern however, his smile quickly vanished. Glancing at the fur faced fighter of crime, he wondered what exactly the point of concern was, being too new to the circumstance to fully grasp the significance of the change.

Re: Issue
Relieved at the calm and cool reaction of the dog-faced man, the newcomer nods at the question, but pauses before replying to the Shroud.

"I guess the telling of how Fenris brought my spirit here in the sword and ring is only a partial telling of my tale..."

His eyes misted over, as he attempted to pull five centuries worth of memories together.

"Born in Poland I was, raised to the sword and the shield, valiant and powerful in competition as well as in combat. For my country and my King I fought with a loyalty and courage that brought me fame I had not sought. That said, I find pride in the fact that my people remember me for these traits to this day with such fondness."

He glances out to sea, but continues his tale.

"You know perhaps of the tale the English have of their King Arthur, how he has become in many ways the embodiment of their... how you say? Hope? But more then hope. In this way, I fill the needs of Poland, and the Polish, men, women and children."

His chin rises and he faces the others, proud of the burden they have laid on him, determined to never let them down.

"While I am no king, once or future, I am a champion, and as the centuries have passed, I have returned whenever my people have needed me. Be the foe Russian, Prussian, Swede or Frank, my sword stands beside the spirit of my people. They have known hardship, but never hopelessness. As I stand for them, their courage in the face of adversity empowers me!"

His shape and form nigh pulses with the power of that courage, and the love he and his people share for each other. With a deep breath, he suppresses the emotion, and glances out the sea again.

"How I have arrived here, I do not know. To date, I have always awoken within the confines of my beloved homeland, as previously stated I last walked the earth during the Great War, when German and Russian troops stalked the land like jackals and vulture.
"Fenris found me in a museum in Germany less than a year ago, and sought to use my power to commit..." he gestures back to where the only sign of the now sunken island is rippling waves, "... that atrocity, what ever he had hoped it would be. And all my pride aside, if it had not been for you and your friends, he would have succeeded."

He met the shadowy gaze of the Shroud, the Black Knight's notorious honesty on full display. "I am not ashamed to admit that I feared the result, for his power was such that I have no doubt he would have destroyed my very soul."

Glancing down, his tone became less steady, perhaps a bit uncertain.

"As to myself, now, I must learn about modern times, is there a reason for me, or should I return to my resting place. I have never been made manifest in such a way, raped, if you will, by the red face villain, cursed be his fate, taken against my will and so very close to being used to perpetrate unfathomable evil. I can only cleanse myself by fighting for my people, but do they need me now? I do not know."

He takes a deep breath, then another.

"Does that answer your question, my new friend?"

Re: Issue
Fascinated at finding another being if not as old as him at least much, much older than everyone else around them Pyrebird listens intently to the tale woven by the brave Pole. When the tale is done he echoes Black Knight's question in flame; "...but do they need me now?"

Digging deep into his memories of the history he has observed over time Pyrebird's concentration sharpens like a knife and the fiery letters flatten out then form into one scene of conflict after another; The Golden City of Krakow besieged by the Tatars, the great battles against the Teutonic Knights, the siege of the Monastery of Jasna Gora by the Swedes....again and again battle after battle showing the seemingly eternal conflict of the Poles to maintain their sovereignty. He watches the obvious effect on the countenance of the Polish knight and some of the confusion on the faces of the others before dismissing the flames.

Taking a deep breath Pyrebird looks Black Knight directly in the eyes, summoning words of fire again; "From my observations the land of your people is always coveted by one power or another. If they are not in peril now, it would not surprise me that things may change. If you are here now, then likely they need you now even if it is not immediately apparent. My feeling is you are *exactly* where you need to be."

Re: Issue
"Well welcome aboard .. so to speak." Kurt said shaking the ancient Poles' hand.

"I am Kurt Summer, American born and bred. Thanks to the press, I go by the moniker of the Patriot. These others, like myself have recently banded together to oppose Count Fenris and his cohorts."

"We had no idea of his plans here. We interfered with the plans of the Eugenics brigade up near San Francisco and were blown off course. As it turns out it was a fortunate wind that blew us here so we could stave off that demons rampage."

"But it seems this fight is not over. As long as Count Fenris and those who share his twisted beliefs wage their secret war on freedom and liberty, there will be a need for brave souls with special gifts to oppose them."

"We are the Sentinals. We represent many nations, and I like to think we represent the hopes and dreams of millions of people who long for freedom in other nations as well. This is going to be a war, a war of good versus evil."

"I ask you to join us .. Black Knight." Kurt asked thinking of how the man first appeared to them.

Re: Issue
Watching the fiery re-telling of his people days to trial and tribulation clearly moved the man in Black. Who knew a ghost could shed tears of pride and glory. Favoring the man of flames with a deep courtly bow, he turned and watched as the self proclaimed 'Patriot' offered his hand and found nothing to grasp, exactly as the Asian gentleman had but a few moments ago.

Taking in the Patriot's speech, the knight in black tights trod carefully thru the many words he did not understand, to get to the gist of the what the man was saying. And smiled...

"Sentinels, the guards at the gate so to speak, champions and heroes, I am grateful for your offer, however my sword is not at my own command. I must speak first to the King, or one of his representatives. If my sword is to be sheathed, so be it, if it is needed to aid my people and their cause, only the King can determine where it will be used."

This, spoken almost as if rehearsed, read from a credo carved into his soul. The next, from his heart however... "I shall speak highly of you all however, and should the king decide by place is at your sides, I shall be both honored, and happy."

It seems evident that thoughts of his own happiness were at the bottom of his list most days, but the finding of kindred spirits, loyal, honest, courageous warriors all, had brighten the spirits day.

Only the future would tell if his wish were to come true.

Jacques starts to offer his hand and then pulls it back. "You are welcome to remain among us until your path is clear, sir knight."

Jacques pauses for a moment before continuing, mulling the right way to broach the topic.

"But Poland has no king. After the end of the Great War it threw off the shackles of the great powers, but it has been a republic since the Treaty of Versailles."

"Poland is as Poland is, I must abide. The last real King of Poland died in 1798, an almost great man, much maligned but with an honest heart. I was honored to know him. Since then I follow the needs of my people, not the mandate of the crown, though I have been lucky. More often then not, their hearts were in alignment.

Re: Issue
As the battered old fishing boat reaches dock in Cabo San Lucas, Ernest Hoffman guides it in as the weary heroes finish their discussions.  There are still repairs to the airship to accomplish, and many of the heroes are changed or damaged - some not as obviously as Black Dog.  Archer has remained aloof and giggling to herself whilst chain-smoking, and Jade seems hollow and dejected, while Nyshuri remains unconscious.

At what price, then, victory... but still, a victory, and the life of the young servant girl who turned out to be so much more was even reclaimed, thanks to the valiant Black Knight.

OOC: Closing the thread and starting the next! Everyone recieves 2,500 XP for their role in this adventure.  I will update character sheets shortly!
