Re: Issue #5: I Left My Heart...
Shroud returns from where he had stood nearby, having a hushed conversation with his friend and employee, Roger.  He looks grim and almost somewhat dazed, but glances to Patriot when the man speaks.

"Our American friend speaks idealistically and enthusiastically, as usual," he said mildly.  "But also, accurately.  The Sentinels may be facing the most trying time in modern history.  We will need all the help we can get.  If you are interested in fighting the 'good fight', oui?" he asked, looking to Earthling-37, Swing Kid, Modi and Kogoenji.

He turned to Patriot aside, then.  "I must speak with you and Agent Archer," he said quietly.  "Can you get her?"

Kogoenji bowed shortly at Patriot's words, but as Shroud continued, he shook his head.  "I regret that I cannot join you at this time," he said.  "I have duties and responsibilities to my government.  Of course, I will aid in the rescue effort here," he added. "But then I have urgent business elsewhere."

Patriot nodded with the hint of a good natured smile at Shroud's analysis of his speech. The Frenchman had pegged it just about right.

At Shroud's request Patriot replied "Sure."

Then the speedster was off in a flash and almost instantly appeared next to the portly British agent. "Shroud needs to speak with you Archer."

As quickly as he was gone. Patriot was back at Shroud's side before the others had a chance to reply. "I let her know."

In reply to Kogoenji Kurt spoke before returning his slight bow "Watashi no yūjin o ki ni shite kudasai.Watashitachiha yoriyoi jōkyō-ka de saikai suru koto ga dekiru."

Modi will give a wide grin and bow low.  "I traveled to this realm for that very reason my friend!  I would be honored to fight along side such worthy heroes as you to prevent the end of days!," he says happily.  Everything Modi said and did seemed like he believed everything to be of massive enjoyment and larger than life.  "Let us find this foul villain and give him the thrashing he deserves!  Or, if he is not to be found, we should celebrate while clues are gathered!"

Patriot liked the Norseman's style. he seemed to share the same eagerness to battle evil. "By golly a glass of milk and some apple pie would be swell. But I would not feel right while all these people are still suffering."

"As far as clues, I would like to have some time with a few of these Chinamen to see what they know. There is a chance they could lead us to Ba Kien."

Modi blinks at Patriot.  "Milk?  You're no child, suckling at the mother's teat!  A warrior doesn't drink milk!  Good ale, hearty song, a large roast haunch of something made of meat and a lively evening!  Maybe a lovely lass who has ensnared our hearts!  That's how we celebrate victories!," he say energetically.  Clearly the men of Midgard needed to be reminded of what a celebration meant!  "But that is for after.  Let us question these bystanders and see what details we can glean from them.  The sooner begun, the sooner done.  Lead on," he says boisterously.

Archer returned.   She looked even more sour than usual, and was sucking down even more fumes from her cigerette. In fact, anyone watching could actually see the fag disappearing to ash; Archer sucked like a champion.

Heading straight for the team, she eyed the newcomers wearily, but spoke to Shroud directly, "We need to talk" she said. Then, glancing at the new folk, she said continued to Shroud, "Somewhere private, less you like these new fellers".

She snorted a sadistic little giggle then, as though the new comers couldn't possibly be worth that kind of respect.  A sardonic chuckle that couldn't sound good.

Patriot smiled at Modi's suggestion "Ginger ale maybe .."

When the man with jet packed seemed keen on joining them it seemed that the matter had been settled. There were more than a few things that struck Kurt odd about the man, but he had fought valiantly and that counted for a lot in the young hero's book.

Kurt turned to Shroud when Archer arrived, he interested in hearing what had put the British agent in an even worse mood than usual.

Shroud took Archer and Patriot aside, leading them just out of earshot of the others, who were either resting, bleeding, or helping the emergency crews.

"I suspect your news and mine is related, Ma'amselle Archer," he said, noting the Brits' foul disposition.  "Would you care to go first?" he asks.

Re: Issue #5: I Left My Heart...
Shroud nodded grimly.  "That is my news also.  I believe we now know why the Black Knight disappeared in mid-battle, crying out for his homeland's fate."

"I have to return to the Continent.  As you may know or have guessed, I employ several operatives in my efforts there in the name of justice."  He glanced to Patriot at that, as if the mere mention of the word 'justice' required it.

"But we cannot abandon Jade, nor can we allow someone with Ba Kien's obvious power to run wild in America," he continued.  "Beyond his impressive physical and mystical abilities, it is his power to enchant that worries me.  We barely overcame 250 of his servants and a pair of dragons this time.  What if he has more next time?  If his powers work on ethnic Chinese... any coastal city with a large Chinese immigrant population could be a ticking time bomb.  Let alone what he could do in London, Hong Kong or Singapore."

"I need you two to lead the team in my absence.  Patriot, monsieur, you are an excellent spokesman and representative of the public 'face' of our group.  Madmoiselle Archer, you have connections, information and a keen tactical mind."

"I know we have all had our differences,"
he added.  "But you must work together.  I will send word as soon as I can, and return as soon as I can."

Re: Issue #5: I Left My Heart...
Kurt was not surprised by the news. But it made it no less terrible. "Sadly this day seemed inevitable."

"We, like the nations from which hail must stand united if we are to stand victorious. So be assured we shall work together and will not fail you mon ami."
Patriot offered a smiled tinged with the melancholy of the moment.

Hearing Shroud's concerns, Kurt answered and expressed his own. "We will also not abandon Jade to whatever fate Ba Kien has in store for her, and this mandarin menace should be our first priority. It seems that if your theory is true Silver Dragon might be very valuable in uncovering this fiendish foe, but might also be vulnerable to his powers."

"But let me add that we must not forget Count Fenris, the Eugenics Brigade and the possibility on the Isla Socorro. That demon could have reached unimagined horror on the world and he too must be stopped."

"It seems that two of the supers who joined us to battle Ba Kien would join us to find and defeat Ba Kien, given today's sad news perhaps we should offer them a more permanent membership."

"In any case it is clear that the Sentinels will be tested by these events and further events to come, but I have no doubt that we shall come through with flying colors."

Archer tried desperately not to roll her eyes at The Boy Scouts exuberance, and possibly succeeded.
She drew a lungful do smoke, then sniggered I tout in a truly unattractive way

"Do what you have to, Jacques. Our paths will cross again"

She turned to look at the motley crew of heroes arrayed.  "I'll be going after Fenris"

Re: Issue #5: I Left My Heart...
"Perhaps we should deal with the matter at hand as a team. Then we can look over the team and mission and decide who is best suited for to accomplish the objectives." Patriot replied.

"Shroud best we get everyone healed up by Silver Dragon. If we are going to rescue Jade we will need to be at full strength. We can leave the clean up to the police and fire departments and you can give the news to the team away from the crowds." Kurt added.

Kurt knew the first priority was Ba Kien. He presented an imminent threat. Given events in Europe its seemed very likely that the Eugenics Brigade's attention was on Europe and the invasion of Poland. But for now Ba Kien seemed very focused on striking at targets here in America.

Once the media & military had left, and his trance had finished , Silver Dragon leaps down from up above.

"Friends, I was unable to locate any trace of Ba Kien or Jade, but I did discover an idea in my meditation.  Perhaps we can return to my dojo since it's nearby, mend our wounds, formulate a plan, and clean up before our next move?

I have more than enough room for all of us -- although I'd prefer to attract a little less attention arriving there since I keep the locale private.  Maybe I can secretly carry someone in - like a small Archer, and Pyrebird could fly in with some passengers through a skylight, and if anyone else has any skills at quieter methods?"

Re: Issue #5: I Left My Heart...
Modi raised an eyebrow.  He want familiar with that kind of ale.  But damn if he wasn't willing to try!  "We must procure some of this gingered ale then.  Along with a goodly supply of mead and other ales of course."

He looked tot he formerly silent leader.  "Buck up man!  No enemy is unbeatable.  We shall find a way to deal with such villainy and triumph in the end.  A good warrior knows his limits but letting doubt in is the first step to defeat.  We will be victorious, never doubt that," he said with utter confidence.  "Each enemy will be dealt with and laid low, either one at at time or all together.  Regardless of the odds against us, we shall not falter."

He nods to the little Asian man.  "If you have a way, then we should explore it.  As for getting there subtly, I can handle that if you like.  Moving all of us is a small matter for me.  Well, assuming the lady giantess is not not toweringly tall that is!  But I do feel we should at least procure the victory drinks and food before we settle in.  It is awfully hard to celebrate without them after all!," he said with a wry grin.  "A dozen or so casks should do, don't you think?". He didn't want to do too much after all.  He wasn't sure how well they could hold they liquor and they seemed awfully reluctant to celebrate their victory.  Ah well, he'd have to make up the difference then!

Having left the huddle with Shroud and Archer, Patriot turns back to the others. Hearing Silver Dragon;s suggestion. "I agree, we need to find a private place where we can rest and recover. With Silver Dragon's healing abilities we should be ready to go after Ba Kien fairly quickly."

"Ba Kien has taken one of ours and no doubts will want to continue he efforts to so discord and cause strife."

"There are some other matters we need to discuss as well."

"I will speak with General Hawthorne and we can leave the clean up to the local authorities."

Shroud shook his head at Archer.  "For now, I need you to help the others," he said.  "We don't have any clue as to Fenris' whereabouts or activities - yet.  I shall find them for you.  But for now, Ba Kien is tres formidable.  The others will need you."

He turned back to the team and moved up behind Patriot as he spoke.

"Patriot speaks well and true," he said.  "I leave you in his, and Archer's, capable hands.  For now I must be off on a mission of import; but the lot of you must find Ba Kien, neutralize his threat, and recover Jade."

"I wish I could stay and welcome you properly to the team," he said to the newcomers.  "But these are dark days.  Au revoir!"

And with that, Shroud made his exit.

The rest of the team made preparations and then adjourned to Silver Dragon's reclusive dojo to rest, heal, plan and (in Modi's case) party.

OOC: New thread coming!  With the loss of Shroud and apparently, Incipient, I'm going to keep the team together as one big happy group.  For now!

Shroud:
Shroud shook his head at Archer.  "For now, I need you to help the others," he said.  "We don't have any clue as to Fenris' whereabouts or activities - yet.  I shall find them for you.  But for now, Ba Kien is tres formidable.  The others will need you."

Archer raised an eyebrow, and chortled a nasty, snorty little giggle.   "No clue as to Fenris' whereabouts? It was only an hour or so ago that we were discussing the exploration of Isla Socorro.  A strong lead on his whereabouts".

She also disagreed that Ba Kien was 'tres formidable' beyond the threat that Fenris, his Eugenics, and the Thule Society presented.

But she chose not to argue right now; for she felt the force of GM Machinations inexorably drawing the PCs into their next episode.
