Issue #8: Interludes
OK gang, while we gear up for the next adventure, this will be a chance to get some downtime.  Please let me know what your characters are working on over the next month.  For the previous adventure, I am awarding 1000 XP for rescuing Jade, good roleplay, and generally perseverance.  I'll add it to the sheet for Devil Dog; I expect my vets can manage it for themselves. But let me know if anyone needs help!

Re: Issue #8: Interludes
What can we do with down time? Can we add to our power list? If so - how do we go about that?

Bernard gave Evelyn a couple of days to settle in and relax after her ordeal before sending the Private around. The private, a skinny kid no more than 18, had an envelope with him. It was not a mass produced envelope, but a piece of parchment folded into the shape of an envelope with a wax seal to hold it together. The private had no information other than that he was ordered to deliver it to Evelyn only.

Once delivered the private Stayed behind, saying he had been ordered to wait for her answer. The letter, written by hand may not be eloquent, but it is personal.

Evelyn,

I would be honored if you would accompany me to the Officer's Club at Ft.
(insert closest military base) for an evening meal and perhaps dancing if you are so inclined afterwards. I would like to pick you up myself at your home this evening at 1800 hours (6:00 PM Civilian time). If this is acceptable, or if you would prefer a different date and time, please inform the Private. If you are unable to accept my invitation, again please inform the private.

I await your answer.

Re: Issue #8: Interludes
The flight back to the States takes a couple days, with layovers. After all, at the time, they are flying clipper planes and layovers are frequent.

San Francisco seems to be the destination of choice for most of the team - but of course, if any have alternate goals, there is ample opportunity.

But once Stateside, our heroes have time to catch up on what they wish.  It is early October of 1939.

OOC: This would be a time to do inventing for new power stunts, or gear.  Or, alternately, just load up on alternate gear.

Fort Point Military Base - Presidio, San Francisco

Evelyn had been quiet most of the flight back.  Her own mind reeling, she wondered - not for the first time - if this entire "save the world" thing was for her.  After all, before Cleo - The Bowler - had found her, she'd been a homeless waif, living in an abandoned train car with Kenji, a young Japanese boy she'd adopted as a kind of surrogate younger brother.  But the power she held came from her family, and ancient times.  It was something she'd never planned for, and in all the history of the Jade Dragon, had never passed to a Girl-Child.

And yet now it had been thrust upon her, and on top of that, the encounter with Ba Kien.

She didn't know Devil Dog well. Or Modi either for that matter.  They were new to the "team", if team it was.  Still, since they'd been back, she'd been literally hiding under a rock.  She knew that had to change.

So she arrived at Fort Point at the time set by DD, only to be met by a scrutinous guard.

"I don't think anybody ordered Chow Mein,"
he commented unhelpfully at the gate.

15,000 was my belief.
And if Silver says he has accumulated that, good on him.
I'm not there yet, but maybe after the next trial. Who knows.

Archer, as usual, was a treasure to travel with.   Gruff and surly, constantly smoking, and occasionally chuckling to herself in that cold (almost sadistic) way ... as though she was leading everyone into a trap, and couldn't help giggling at her own joke.

She claimed a window seat on any flight, right next to the airplane emergency exit, and held a parachute lovingly to her ample bosom the entire trip.

She smoked heavily; more so than usual.  And occasionally eyed her 'friends' and chortled.

Re: Issue #8: Interludes
Bernard had been waiting at the gate as well, having been given her message of meeting her instead of picking her up himself. When he heard the guard's comment he blustered. He knew coming at the man on the basis of his comment would do no good. Instead he addressed the man's shortcomings. "Sargent! What is the meaning of this?" He pointed to the a button that had come undone on the man's shirt. These buttons tended to do that and most officers overlooked minor infractions. Bernard was not going to let man slide. "Your uniform is disheveled and unacceptable. Report to me in the morning for special duties."

Guard properly dressed down, Bernard turned to Evelyn. "You look lovely this evening, Evelyn. Thank you for coming." He offered his arm. He spoke a little more quietly as they made their way to the officer's club. "Be prepared, there will be more of that. Its unfortunate, but the melting pot of America is more like a stew, each group staying alongside their own and only mixing together when forced to, like with the military. Pay them no mind. You are with me, and I am proud to be with you."

He gave on final "I dare you" glare at the guard as they walked by.
