Issue #10: Doom and Damnation
The team had been brought to a location 90 miles from their goal - Niedzica Castle - in their airship, L'Esprit d'Adventure.  Using Modi's frost-born teleportation ability, they left the airship behind, intending to 'gate' to the castle and rescue the Polish president's family - and hopefully the Black Knight as well.

They'd been foiled by some kind of barrier.  The teleport dropped them all in the snow, and they'd had to trudge towards the castle.

That's where things get a bit fuzzy.

There were trucks outside, abandoned... and frozen blood around them.  The Germans were invading Poland from one direction, the Soviets another... but there were no soldiers.

And then...

And then?

The team awakes in utter black darkness.  Bitter cold.  Dampness, and hard stone floor.

Issue #10: Doom and Damnation
Pyrebird looks around to see if he can spot the tiniest trace of light. Seeing none he reaches within himself to change that and the temperature....THAT he can do something about at least. First he conjures a flame in the palm of his hand to light the space the team is in. Next he brings the temperature up to a comfortable 70 degrees Fahrenheit to chase the chill away. He looks around to see how the other members of the team are doing...

Issue #10: Doom and Damnation
Flame springs from Pyrebird's hand; weak and guttering at first, it flares brighter, but still seems weaker and colder than it should. The flickering orange flame revealed a large chamber, carved from stone and reinforced in places with masonry.  The only source of light is the flame in Pyre's hand.  The heat he radiates is comforting, but is unable to completely push out the chill that emanates from the wall, floor and air.

Sprawled around the cold, hard stone are several figures... the Sentinels.  However, some are missing.  Notably Shroud, Earthling-37 and Devil Dog.  Also, there are two others who were NOT with the team as it approached the castle.

(OOC: Storm Salamander and Sea Leopard, go ahead and describe yourselves as you awaken and react!)

*One of them is dressed in what looks to be a modified frogman's outfit, similar to those worn by the British, but considerably bulkier than normal. This is probably because the person inside is so big - a real beefy looking guy - a man, judging by the voice - with some sort of strange armor protecting his neck and face, a trim head of auburn hair jutting out the top. He sits up with a groan and checks himself over.*

"What'd we get into this time, Stormy?" he asks the other one. "Jesus H. Ch -" He suddenly realizes that they are very much not alone and looks around at the other. "Oh, geez."

With Pyrebird's flame filling the room with light, Patriot quickly got to his feet. Even without his uniform, Patriot looked like a superhero. At 6'2" 220 lbs with an athletic build. His square jaw, blond hair and blue eyes are the most striking features of his handsome face. He looks the recruiting poster from the Great War.

Looking about Patriot saw his comrades rousing themselves from whatever slumber had been imposed upon them. His speed of thought quickly allowed him to assess the scene, including the missing and the new arrivals.

Hearing the wet suit clad man's accent, the man was no Pole or for that matter a German. Walking over the the man, the American Speedster reached out a hand to help him to his feet.

"Not sure how you ended up here, I'm known as Patriot."

"We are the Sentinels."
Kurt said with a smile.

"Funny running into you here."

Ghost Dog opens his eyes and looks around, then gets to his feet and shakes himself out, the action truly befitting his looks, tho it is really his way of making sure nothing is broken or otherwise injured. Seeing the new arrivals and Patriot's approach of them, Ghost Dog tips his head back and sniffs, taking in air and doing his best to learn from it, his ears twitching as well, trying to find anything they can, since anything and everything will be a help.

Archer stood, quietly.
She pulled her new cigarette lighter from her pocket, and flicked it open/on with practiced ease.
The Zippo had been a present from her father when last he'd seen her.

Quote Wikipedia:
The Zippo lighter and company were invented and founded by George G. Blaisdell in 1932. The Zippo was noted for its reliability, "Life Time Warranty" and marketing as "Wind-Proof". Most early Zippos used naphtha as a fuel source.

Lighting up a cigarette, to warm and nourish her lungs, she leaned casually against the nearest wall.

Allowing the Boy Scout to have his way with their new companions, Archer eyed the castle as if it was the very enemy itself, daring it to rise up against her.

Patriot was thoughtful for a moment.

"Where is here? That might be my first question. But to answer your question not really sure." Patriot replied.

"A few of our team are missing? I only see two of you, were there others?"

As Archer let a lungful out, she casually said (seemingly to nobody in particular),
"These guys are with me.
They're Crown Guard: Sea Leopard ... and his partner is Storm Salamander
".

It was a simple statement; and claimed them squarely as her own allies.
Any doubt upon them might as well be brought directly at Archer.

Modi had brought the whirlwind aroudn them, disappearing them from one place and bringing them to...not where he wanted.  Close but not quite.  "Blast.  The place has been warded by some form of sorcery," had been his explanation.  Nothing much he could do about it.  But trudging through the snow didn't bother him in the least.  The temperature was rather pleasant for him and the snow was no impediment to his strength.

....but coming to on a stone floor was far from enjoyable.  His armor reforged itself with a thought, even as he stood.  "Thrice bedamned sorcery," he muttered.  "Is everyone well?," he asked.  He didn't overly worry about the two newcomers.  Clearly they were victims of whatever magics had affected himself and his fellow heroes.   Archer's confirmation of their allegiance was more than enough to confirm his belief.  Just because something looked 'in-human' was no reason to fear it after all.

"I am Modi of Asgard and an ally of these Heroes," he said to the new pair as he looked around at their surroundings.  You could practically hear the capital H as he said the word.

". . . Archer? Damn, last I saw you was . . . was it Warsaw? I think it was Warsaw."

Archer's gaze remained on the far wall, as she leaned.   It was as though she was thinking hard about something, or seeing through the opposite wall.

Then, blowing the last of this lungful of smoke out in a long stream, she turned her attention to Sea Leopard.
And simply nodded, "That would be about it.
You still spinning cogs?   Or did they fix that for you?

Rolling over, Cleo finds face down on cold stone to be, not surprisingly, less comfortable than face up. Sitting up too fast, he decides to make sure his shoelaces are tied, and puts his head between his knees to do so.

Hearing Archer's announcement that the two new comers were members of Britain's Crown Guard, Patriot, Patriot felt some relief "Well that is good news."

While the members of the Crown Guard were a welcome addition. The missing Sentinels weighed on Patriot's mind "On the other hand, Shroud and the others are missing, which means even as we speak they may be in danger."

"If we are going to be working together, perhaps a quick introduction for the benefit of our unexpected allies."

"As I said, I'm Patriot, gifted with heightened speed and resilience to harm."

"Anyone have a way of knowing where we are? Modi any idea of what went wrong?"
Patriot began to consider the possibilities using his knowledge of science and the metaphysical.

Storm uncurled himself, slightly disorientated and not knowing what had happened to him he rolled over and into a defensive position. He hoped his partner Sea Leopard was nearby he'd hate to have to go pull his fat out of the fire again.

The tall purple grey Salamander stood his body was already adapting to his environment and the cold slowly eased from his body.

Looking round he noticed Leopard talking to others, he held that thought for a moment and looked round to take in his surroundings.

Then he turned back to Leopard " Trust you to have already made friends" stated the humanoid lizard. There was definite a lilt to his voice slightly sing song that could only place him as Welsh

Pyrebird concentrates slightly to try and increase the temperature and illumination a bit. Looking over the new people he smiles gently and gestures with his right hand, words of flame appearing in the air above him and scrolling left to right before each word slowly fades; "Greetings, I am Pyrebird. This is how I speak as my vocal cords were removed a LONG time ago. So to communicate it is this, writing, or sign language. To build on what Patriot said I have the ability to create and manipulate heat and flame, I can resist most forms of impact, I can heal by absorbing fire/heat, I can fly on wings of flame, and I have been slowly unlocking other powers of the mind related to those I already have. As far as where we are perhaps we somehow ended up inside the castle after all..."

With seemingly everyone present regaining their senses, Archer stepped forward from the wall.

With a commanding clap of her hands, she stepped into the centre of the group,
"Ok folks, this is what you all need to know; so listen up.

We are inside Niedzica Castle.
Niedzica Castle is no mere Castle; it is a living Castle.  It's spirit is tied into the living Poland ... it is the living spiritual heart of Poland.
And right now,  this soul is as twisted and warped as the darkness takes it.  It is in pain.

And like all wounded animals, it's going to fight back and lash out at anything that is not it.
That means us.   We are not welcome here, any more than our enemy are
".
She wasn't entirely sure this was true; guessing that the Castle itself had brought them within its tormented folds, in the hope that theses people might defend her.
But, who was Archer to paint any kind of flowery image, eh!

"There are many ghosts inhabiting this castle.
And they're angry as hell ... so be prepared for anything.

Now, Boy Scout.   We need to know where the exits are from this immediate area.
That's your task.
DON'T leave without us, just Scout this immediate area.

Modi, we need to know if you can teleport within this place.
Maybe the barrier only prevent entry
"
'and possibly, if she brought us in, she's removed that restriction'
"A simple attempt from where you are to that corner over there should test that.

Woo, I need you to sense the mumbo jumbo of this place.  Can you feel any ...
", Archer was on tenuous grounds now, talking about Eastern mojo concepts, "lines of ... karma, or places of power (good or bad) within this place".

Modi shook his head slightly.  "I cannot.  I can guess at some form of magics but not the specifics.  And I doubt we have the time to investigate the possibilities," he said to Patriot.  "Suffice it to say this place is sufficed with magic.  And it is far from pleased with our invasion."

He look to Archer and rolled one shoulder in a half shrug.  "I can attempt to do so.  It is likely I could escape, especially if I traveled home.  However, given the wards, I expect that will have the same result as last time.  But, if you wish it, I will try," he said honestly before looking to Jade.

"Woo and the others were either sent elsewhere or simply not taken.  We will have to ask the spirits of this place which it was."  He cleared his throat after a moment.  "He might be part.  You are mortal and human.  I am part giant, part god.  None of it matters.  What matters is that he is a Hero, here to aid us in the battle ahead.  Labels beyond that have little meaning," he said with a nod to the lizard man.
