Miracle walks straight up to Shroud.  "Zhat," she says, "Was brilliant."  She looks down at the fallen robot, thoughtfully, and then looks at the scientist too.  "Can you now safely examine it, for finding how it is control was taken from you?" she suggests.

In reply to The Bowler (msg # 125):

"I know what bowling is," Evelyn replied with a snark.  "I'm from here, you know."

She glanced over at Cleo as he put on the mask.  "So... you're a bowler, then?" she continued.  "That's your power?  You can move bowling pins?"

She shook her head, her lips quirking in a smile.  Cleo's made her laugh, at least a little, and in so doing, the two dragons assumed a less agitated pattern over their heads.  She sobers then, though, as he continued his tale.  "Wow," she said.  "If they wanted to burn you alive for moving bowling pins, wait 'til they get a load of me."

And as they walked, indeed, people were pointing and gaping at the dragons overhead, as well as the masked man leading the girl who summoned them.  But still, the majority of the attention was at the pavillion, where the titanic steel form of Steel Freedom had collapsed down into the stage, shattering it.

"Good dragons?" Eveyln said hopefully.  "Nice dragons.  Down boys?"

The spectral, glowing dragons dropped lower, still circling, and seemed to eye Evelyn intently.  Even now, they were in sight of the stage - and the heroes could see the masked man with the girl at his side, dragons hovering over them.

In reply to Shroud (msg # 130):

The crowd breaks into cheers and applause as it is clear the heroes have triumphed and contained the rampaging robot.  A few, of course, are skeptical, if amused.  They figure it was all a show.

But Dr. Forrester is not one such.  Running a hand through his hair, the middle-aged scientist shook his head and turned to Shroud, who spoke.

"I... I'm not sure exactly,"
Forrester replied.  He regarded the control box in his hands uselessly.  "It activated by itself and wouldn't respond to the control box.  That shouldn't be possible," he mused, perturbed.  "Almost as if it were responding to some outside force... or acting on its own.  But that's ridiculous, it can't act on its own."

Re: Issue
Kurt made a mental note of the name of the restaurant, though at the moment he saw very little reason to trust the China man known as the Silver Dragon. He was a suspected killer, and while he had stepped up after the fight, Kurt had not seen him during the battle.

But right now the Patriot having mentioned the General decided he had better check on his condition and that of the Young lady who'care he was in right away.

"If you will all forgive me , but I need to check on the injured. I shall be very pleased to continue this conversation after I have made sure no needs to get to the hospital." Said the Patriot before speeding to where he had left the General.

"It can't, but it did."  It was an old philosophy riddle.

"Please excuse me."  Woo bowed and walked towards Evelyn & the Bowler.
He joined them and walked alongside, speaking to Evelyn.

"You have restrained your power.  Excellent work.  Miss, I am familiar with the power that you seem to have gained -- although I thought it only went to the male heir.  Most interesting."

To the two of them, he continued, "I've invited these amazing heroes to meet tomorrow at Spicy Dragon Chinese Restaurant (he says it again in Chinese, for her), in Chinatown tomorrow at noon.  I hope you both will attend?"

To Evelyn, he says, "And miss, if you meet me earlier than that, perhaps I can help you with your 'power mastery'?  If you wish the dragons to disappear, take a deep breath and think 'thank you spirits for your aid.  We are all safe now.'  And they SHOULD go away."

He waits to make sure they both heard the offer.

Shroud nods at Miracle, "Merci."

He shakes his head as if to say "not good" as the scientist speaks. He hears Silver Dragon's proverb and nods more. "Yes, the world is more and more full of things that cannot be, yet are. Let us hope the scientists who built this monster can find out what went wrong."

He gives Dr. Forrester a firm hand shake and slips him a black card with a phone number written on the back of it in silver letters. "If you need me."

With that he turns to the others.

"My name is Shroud," he says in French accent. "And I am always up for some good Chinese food."

Pyrebird walks around the area still obstructed by waves of heat, viewing the robot briefly. The idea of a meeting at an exotic restaurant intrigues him so he summons up some fire to reply to the strange oriental gentleman; "Spicy Dragon is it? I will be there, it is certainly a change from my normal activities and may allow me further knowledge of the times."

Re: Issue
In reply to Silver Dragon (msg # 136):

The twin glowing spectral dragons coiled and arched around to face Woo as the elder approached.  They seemed to nod respectfully, rather than loom menacingly, as he spoke.

"Male heir?" she asked, her voice echoing as if spoken by more than one.  "I... don't have a brother.  Not anymore.  He died with my father in a train wreck... years ago."  She glanced down at her arms, the intricate jade tattoos shining thereupon.  "These... I dreamt of them then, but never... not until tonight... did I see them again."

There was suspicion in her eyes as she looked at Woo; but she stayed and listened, standing close by the masked Bowler.

"Chinatown?" she repeats unenthusiastically.  "I guess..."

Then, squaring her shoulders, she took Woo's advice.  Rather than simply think it, though, she says it aloud.

"Thank you spirits for your aid.  We are all safe now."

As if on cue, the two dragons raise up... and then plunge back down, slamming into Evelyn's tattoos and disappearing inside with a flare of jade fire.  The girl is stunned, shaking, but the dragons are gone.

"Oh my," she breathed, her voice once more her own, alone.

General Hawthorne:
General Hawthorne was fending off Daphne as Patriot found him.

"I said I'm fine, Miss Chambers," he insisted, dabbing at his bloody brow with a handkerchief.  "Better than Uncle Sam's latest super-weapon, any way."

It was all Kurt do to conceal his smile at General Hawthorne's struggle with Daphne. It was a humorous scene considering the circumstances, but he was also struck by the quiet bravery of the General, which was expected, and of Daphne Chambers, which was not. Offering a quiet nod of thanks to the young nurse in training, the Patriot waited for the General to acknowledge his presence.

quote:
He glanced up at Patriot and scowled.  "Great work," he said. "Saw the whole thing. Hopefully Forrester can figure out what the hell went wrong.  And hopefully it's not a complete wreck."

"Thank you General. But I had plenty of help." The Patriot said motioning back to the odd collection of heroes gathered around the smoking hole that contained the remains of Steel Freedom.

"As for Steel Freedom, I am sure Dr. Forrester can get it running good as new." The Patriot said with no hint of irony.

Offering a smile to Daphne "Miss Chambers if you will excuse us a moment."

Once she was out of ear shot Kurt continued "Seeing as you are OK General, I wanted to bring something to your attention and seize on an opportunity before we lose the chance. As I mentioned I had plenty of help stopping that runaway robot. Help of a very special kind. You know how I have been insistent that only all the free nations working together can stop evil from spreading across the globe. Well today we saw my dream in action."

"All those supers that showed up. Well for whatever reason, be it fate or destiny, are from all over the globe. Given our nation's current stance in Europe and Asia, the officially government sanctioned supers are limited as to what they can do without causing trouble for the politicians. But what about an unofficial collection of superheroes? Superheroes from across the globe who come together to battle enemies their nations cannot? What do you think General, something off the book that could handle some of the nasty jobs without causing a fuss?

Kurt hoped that the General, perhaps a bit dizzy and with his blood worked up might just agree to what the Patriot was proposing.

'A Brit, a Yank, a Frenchman and a Chinaman walk into a Sushi Bar ...', Archer thinks to herself, as she enjoys the healthy goodness of charred tabacco.

She smirked to herself as the Pinball Patriot spun off again in another direction.

Then, she turned her attention to the Chinese gentleman: so that was the Silver Dragon, eh.
Of course she knew of him; the Guard kept good files on any threat to the Empire, possible or direct.
The file on the Silver Dragon, though, was small ... nothing much more than a few news articles an one report from an American assigned Guardsman.
She'd attend this meeting that the Silver Dragon had proposed, if only for the opportunity to observe him further.

She hoped that the Pinball Kid would be there also.  The Guard had an equally brief file on him, and more would be to her credit.

And, also, there were these other folk ... the cloaked vigilante and this Phoenix thing.

Re: Issue
Silver Dragon smiled when Evelyn successfully shut her powers down.

She was going to be a powerful one!

And how interesting that another Dragon-style student had appeared to him -- and a female!  While there had been some dedicated females in his Kung Fu training, he knew of none that had been chosen to wield Dragon Chi.  This woman must be quite special.

He tried to get rid of his judgement about Chinese who didn't speak the language -- behind the judgement was a sadness.  It was like being a bird and not flying.  The Chinese culture went back thousands of years, while the (Western) USA was only hundreds.

Perhaps he could interest her to know some of her culture too...?  Surely the Dragon Chi would want her to know something?

It was time to leave.  Police would arrive soon, and he didn't want those incorrect 'yellow-journalism' tales to influence his appearance to this band of heroes.

"Until tomorrow."
He throws a smoke bomb to the ground.  A small puff of smoke rises up, engulfing Silver Dragon.  When the smoke puff clears, he is gone.

He runs away, completely hidden.

Hawthorne glanced at Patriot as if he'd sprouted a second head. "Son, that's the craziest, cockamamiest idea I've heard all day," he frowned.  "And in this place, I've heard a lot of 'em."  The fair was, after all, a display of the fantastic.

He dabbed at his brow again and then looked down at the handkerchief, the white cloth stained red with his blood.

"I like it,"
he concluded with a growl.  "Too many damned appeasers and apologists these days.  Can't twitch without 'compromising neutrality'.  Senator Rice actually said Hitler and Mussolini have a date with destiny.  'It's foolish to oppose them, so why not play ball with them?', he said."  Hawthorne snorted in disgust.  "You ask me, those two crazy sumbitches need third eyes, right here, courtesy of a good .45," he added, tapping his finger in the middle of his forehead to illustrate the point.

"All right,"
he said.  "I've got a lot of calls to make and digging to do.  Got to get to the bottom of this problem with Steel Freedom.  You do what you can to get in with this bunch.  But use a gentle touch.  You know how fussy some of these foreigners can be. Try and boss 'em, and they'll huff off."

Then Kurt walked over to Daphne "I am glad to see you escaped all this unscathed Miss Chambers. I wanted to thank you for taking care of the General, I knew I could count on you."

"I have to speak with the others, but when I am finished I would be pleased to make escort you home."

Then in a flash the Patriot was gone and after a quick check to make sure no one was injured, he was back with the superheroes who remained. Arriving back with the others just as Silver Dragon disappeared.

Re: Issue
Looking at the others still gathered the Patriot spoke up "First again thank you all for what you did here today."

With the sun already below the horizon and night falling darkness began to engulf the day's battlefield. Lit by the final glow of the setting sun the Patriot continued "While we won a battle today we are entering dark times. These coming days will call upon all of us to choose sides in what could be a world spanning battle between good and evil. As today taught us, no matter how powerful we are, we are more powerful when we join with like minded allies."

"That is as true of individuals as it is of nations. In these dangerous times many nations have recruited supers from among their own people to form national super teams. So it seems in this conflict supers will play a key part. But destiny seems to have a different plan for us and has brought us together. I suggest we can provide an example to others, that by embracing the differences of our nationalities we can come together to defeat the forces of evil."

"That metal menace was a dangerous threat but we all know that there are even greater threats awaiting the free world. Alone we might make a difference, but I assure you together I am certain we will."

After letting his words sink in for a moment, the Patriot continiued "So my proposal is that we form a super team, united not by our places of birth, but instead by our shared desire to see good overcome evil."

"I do not expect your answer now. We have all been invited to meet tomorrow. I hope to see you all present."

"I hope you see some truth in my words and will join me in this much needed league of superheroes. For the days ahead may be dark indeed, but many beacons of light will burn keeping the hope of liberty and justice alive for all."

As the camera pans to each of the each of the heroes assemble their national anthems play quietly, as the camera settles back on the Patriot the Battle Hymn of the Republic plays as he finishes his speech. ;)

The Bowler had been pulling Evelyn towards the Patriot, intending to have a word with the man. After hearing his speech, and the Shroud's response, he grins through his mask and says, "Ain't that, we just like our mellodrammer."
As he looks around and realizes the elderly gentleman that seemed to know what the lady's tattoos meant is not there, he turns to her and says, "I'm not sure what to do with you, now. You seem to be both dangerous and endangered, at the same time. We might be able to catch up with that silver-haired fellow this evening at the restaurant that patriot guy brought up, but if you want to go it alone, I'll not stop you."
Then he lets go of her hand.

Evelyn hesitates, glancing at the amazing folks around her and then to the masked Cleo, who'd been so kind to her.  The weird Chinese dude was gone, and she wasn't sure how she felt about him anyway.  He seemed to know something about these brands on her forearms, but still...

Turning to Cleo, she frowned and said, "I... have some things I have to look after.  But I'll be there tomorrow.  Noon, the guy said."

She regarded him for a moment longer, hesitating as if to say more, and then said simply, "Thank you."  It was the most sincere she'd been since he'd met her.

Then, covering her arms self-consciously, the girl faded back into the crowd.

Feel free to tie up any lose ends and let me know if there's anything your heroes want to do before the meeting - but we'll be starting up with the meeting, so only general things to be summarized, plz. :D

After World Faire & before meetup
After the Faire ends, Silver Dragon returns to his studio.

He purchases a few newspapers to read at the local newsstand -- it was important he stay aware of what he was being blamed for, and maybe he could find some information on the superfolk he'd just met.  Who were these amazing people?

He walked home by way of the Spicy Dragon, and spoke to his old friend Zo Chin Lao, the restaurant owner, to reserve the back room for noon the following day, and he pre-ordered their special "Peking Duck", in honor of PyreBird.

When he got to his studio, he looks into his ancient Chinese books & scroll collection for info on the Jade Dragon.

It would be a long night -- all that reading, and then his excercise & meditation practice.
Luckily, he was very disciplined.

The Patriot made himself available to the military, police and the press. As the news of Steel Freedom's rampage would do no good for the USA, he did his best to put a positive spin on the days events.

Eventually, when his duty was done, he found Miss Chambers and made sure the young lady made it home safely.

As soon as The Patriot gathers the attentions of the press and others Pyrebird slips away back towards the technology pavilion. Finding a quiet space he unobscures his form and puts on his lab clothes over his costume. He returns to the exhibit none the worse for wear. Dmitri asks where he had wandered off to and Cyrus replied in ASL that he had slipped out to watch the fireworks, so to speak.

The Bowler raises his hand, as if to tip his hat to the lady, "Then I'll take your leave, miss. I wish you luck."
Looking around, he decides there are too many photographers snapping pictures for him to approach The Patriot, and saunters away. Like many a young man before him, he set out for the YMCA, where, sans mask, he presented himself and received a place to stay. Early the next morning, after calisthenics and swimming, he made his way to the Chinese restaurant mentioned by the elderly gentleman. Perhaps here he could find some kindred spirits to help him become one of those 'mystery men' he had read about.
