The Kattegat series of Corvettes were developed around the beginning of the 3rd Century by the Indari Calendar to replace aging system ships and larger, though less effective bulk cruisers, a left over mainstay from the Unification Wars. These new designs, produced in large numbers, would form the backbone of the fleet for the Hegemony and the Houses. Each of them a sleek agile modular design, they are capable of taking a number of weapon systems allowing them to take out smaller craft with ease and gang up on larger targets using wolfpack tactics. Originally designed as a joint effort between Excellon Engineering Corporation and Gryphon Planetary Shipyards, by this time, many of the newer hulls being laid down are in orbit around Volaris and Omni Shipyards in the Hegemony home system of Renevatio, within sublight distance of the Crownworld: Haven. There are some questions about whether or not this is the best for the industry or House favoritism at work, but regardless, the Home System Shipyards continue to pump out new warships at a staggering pace.

The Karvi-class Corvette was the original design of what would be expanded into the Kattegat series of Corvette to meet requirements from the Hegemony High Command. Much of the propulsion systems were designed and manufactured by Raoul-Mandar Systems with much of the industrial capacity supplied by Principality Industrial Concern under contract. Armed with an standard Indra Arms V100-Series Plasma Cannon and a Hajime Transstellar Tengoku-02 Drive. The spaceframe is long, narrow and sleek, providing a small sensor cross-section from the bow and aft and often the ships are compared to ocean predators in appearance. Equipped with a powerful anti-grav array along the belly of the ship, they are capable of entering the atmosphere of most planets and landing in starports on in the ocean. This makes them capable of projecting force throughout deep space as well as planetside if necessary. A pair of assault pods allowing for quick penetration and boarding of disabled ships allows for the Karvi-class to quickly capture prizes during or after battle.

The Snekkja-class is visually very similar to it's sister classes, though instead of the Karvi's bow mounted Ares plasma cannon housing, the advanced tracking array is placed there to provide maximum coverage to the forward. The ship instead bristles with a dozen Hexenteknical Lightstorm beam turrets to knock out fighters and smaller ships in a hail of destructive energy.

The Langskip-class came about late in the development of the line to meet a perceived gap in the fleet. Armed with a Starfront Defenses D-11 Sandblaster battery and St. Orleans Ordinance AX-2 Sonic Charge Launcher with a double magazine. The unorthodox weapon connects with the hull of the target ship and emits a massive sonic pulse, which echos throughout the ship, insulated by the vacuum outside, ignoring all but the heaviest armor and incapacitating the crew, almost literally shaking the ship apart. This corvette class can engage fighters or even heavier ships and still deal out punishment for any captain foolish enough to underestimate the Langskip.

Although often associated with the Kattegat series, the large boxy shape of the Knarr-class puts the lie to this misconception. In fact, the Knarr-class Corvette Tender began life as a light freighter. As the Hegemony expanded and cargo shipments increased in size, larger and larger freighters started to become more commonplace and smaller ships were viewed as less efficient to meet the logistic needs of the Hegemony and the Houses. Many older smaller freighters were converted to a different purpose and many Porter-class light freighters found new life as the Knarr-class. Much of the cargo space was converted into workshops, sensor arrays and power grids to support the new equipment and MetaSpace Particle projector, weaponizing the Spike drive.

A single Corvette of a configuration similar to the Kattegat line can dock between the "arms" of the Knarr and using the workshops and spare parts stored onboard, can undergo more thorough repairs and maintenance than can be done underway. It's no substitute for a real drydock or shipyard, but it works in a pinch when out on patrol.
