Re: New Player Introductions

A Role Player from decades ago, who due to practical constraints found little time for face to face games any longer after college.  After being introduced to RPOL however, the opportunity became apparent that some slices of time could be carved out to support the old hobby.  Having played using numerous different games over time, one can't help but tinker with ideas and house rules to try to improve or give a different flavor, one way or another.

Re: New Player Introductions

Who is the guy with two thumbs and joined this forum a week or so ago? This guy!

I am more of an editor than an author, but I have dipped my proverbial toes into game design. I have had one article published in The Rifter magazine years ago. I am a part time netcaster (a.k.a. podcaster) and full time janitor. I got into RPGs in college after I observed a small gaming group for a paper I was writing at the time. Since then, I have often taken on the role of *that guy* who the other gamers usually tolerate.

Re: New Player Introductions

I am a lunatic cameloid who has about 10 game projects currently underway. A few of them are electronic oriented, but for the most part they are pen & paper with one miniature-based game. All in various states of completion. Nothing over 50%. I R crazy.

Been gaming for 20+ years over all formats and multiple systems.

Re: New Player Introductions

Hello, I've played war games, then moved to DnD, when I found a 1st Edition DM guide. played bunnies and burrows (by the way rabbits hate bio research labs), gama-world, boot hill, star frontiers, traveller,  champions, top secret.  Then the other players grew up, moved in with girls.. well I did to to be fair.  couldn't get my kids to play, and grand kid is to young yet.
I'm an envronmetal mechanist as a DM/Designer.
I'm a strict Constitutionalist (first constitutional law is Fun, 2nd Identity,..) as a DM/ Judge
My preference as a DM/ Mastermind as a sparing partner for the party.
As a Player I love to push the roleplaying envelope in terms of character.

Re: New Player Introductions

Hello everybody. I am a long time RPG designer/player. I am young (18) but I have been making RPG games since I was 8. I have been enjoying rpol for about 3 years and have run a semi-successful game using my own system.

*cough* Well that was excessive. So hello!

Re: New Player Introductions

Hello!

Long time roleplayer. Never really tried my hand at designing anything, save for a handful of homebrewed rules for a steampunk-ish D&D 5th Edition setting.

I have developed a fun setting here on Rpol that was made via playing a free-form game and am looking into thoughts on maybe adapting that for an existing RPG, or something new from scratch, just for fun.

Re: New Player Introductions

Hello all! Thanks for having me.

I'm less a homebrew gamer and more a house rules guy. I've done a lot of converting one system to another and typically favor rules light stuff. I'm looking forward to starting a Dungeon World / Apocalypse World thread in the near future.

Re: New Player Introductions

Hi both of you, welcome to our little group. :)

Have you found us via our new ad in Heaven, or is it coincidence that you've joined us today? Just curious. :)

EDIT: Never mind, I see we've got a new ad in Players Wanted, too.

Re: New Player Introductions

Hi, folks.

Most of you who are old timers on this site, will recognize my nick. I'm almost 38 and for over 20 years I've been tinkering with rules and designing settings way more than I've managed to actually play. And I'll proudly keep doing that, now that I have a regular tabletop group.

For systems, been playing WoD almost 20 years, but nowadays I'm mostly into Fate Core.

Me too. I don't know much about the rules systems you discussed, nor do I favor rules light or heavy. I think certain themes are better handled rules light, and others heavy.

Re: New Player Introductions

Greets and such, I joined up around a month ago but haven't had much spare time to invest in getting familiar with the board until now.  I'm an engineering student who dabbles in world building and rpg concepts as a hobby.  In terms of systems, I'm most familiar with Warhammer, D&D and Palladium.  My projects have suffered from my tendency to burden things with overcomplexity of detail and shifting levels of interest.  If I were to package together my top 3 objectives it would look something close to this.

  1. Streamline a turn-based post structure for pbp combats/noncombat resolutions
  2. Conceptualize a character development model that uses a looser and more natural structure than xp purchase or preset benchmarks.
  3. Reinvent the Rifts system into something actually playable.

Re: New Player Introductions

In reply to Milostyl (msg # 22):

Hello and welcome, Milostyl,

I am a Palladium survivor -- excuse me, I meant to say "veteran" -- myself.

Palladium is entirely playable. I've been playing and running it for a couple of decades. It just isn't friendly to the GM. Savage Worlds Rifts should be coming out next year, and perhaps that will be more to your liking.

If you can figure out a system for streamlining player turns for a play-by-post gaming style, I would love to see it.
