Generally speaking, that campaign twist would be a bit of a overall reset, kind of like one big server reset. I'd imagine characters could be the same or different. A good chance to restructure the party or build around it, As we currently had 3 very different druids, it might be fun to explore a druidic problem instead, If your open to that.
Mabrooks is currently indisposed with work life for the known future if that matters to you, if he does eventually return, it will probably be on a spellmage type instead of a straight spellcaster.
I'm leaning towards a nimble brawler type gnome concept and borrowing a bit from pathfinder.
I play all gnomes as savants in whatever they choose to be, but always in something, E.G. a cooking gnome may know everything about cooking, and always try experiments with new things, and learning new recipes or cooking techniques as they travel (if they even leave home) like a duck to water.
Mechanically you could say all gnomes get skill focus (X), but realistically it's just roleplay, an unhealthy fixation/fascination, my gnomes basically imprint on something random at a young age and bull dog mastering it, dictating their abilities and life choices.
In this Case, I've used something like dancing, yoga, or maybe even some form of exercise/sports fixation. This Gnome love to bend/twist/contort/swing, Bodies in motion is his thing, and whats more choatic and energetic then a good fight, brawl, or trap baiting.
He's faster then most dwarfs, and far stouter then a halfing. A bit of a muscle head, but clever none the less.
I like to have a strong personal angle for why i'm in any group, besides a DnD party being the local fun zone. Circus is a bit cliche, but I can see my gnome imprinting on acrobatic techniques. You just down find many opportunities for acrobats in hidden underground gnome cities, so I would be a integrated/city gnome. Maybe a orphan origin, or just a journeyman.
A wild child Tarzan/Mowgali origin could work. Smaller monkeys would certainly have that energetic and flying potential, I wouldn't go for the full feral effect, but growing up near them, or among them till I realize I wasn't like them and integrating with things more like me.
Whatever the reason, be it respect for another character's prowess, A Burden of Honor or debt (freed or purchased slave?), guiding artifact/fortune teller, seeking my family, or just making a living wage as party member in a adventurer guild. I like there to be some tie in as to why the party is where I choose to be. Perhaps I'm just too much of a handful and you guys are the only ones that put up with me.
I would like to start at a lower level, closer to my grassroots, where character background plays a larger role in motivations and party direction.
