As the orb is placed in the depression on the table you see a vision of a dark swirling cloud of magical energy and a gargantuan hole in the ground with steam emanating out of it.  The orb zooms in to show a handful of girls bound to a tall pole at the top of the hole, They are all screaming and struggling with no avail to get free.  A few moments pass and these huge tentacles rise up out of the depths, the tentacles are covered in mouths, teeth and various suckers.  They grasp the poor girls tightly, the teeth sinking into their flesh and wrench them down into the depths.  All that is left of the girls is gout's of blood, and their last screams as they disappear from view.  The orb then just says the words "North-East in the town of Berdusk"

The party marches off victorious from the Portal Under the Stars upon the hilltop of Greenest.  They report their findings to the local leadership and the portal disappears not to be seen for another 50 years. A mass ceremony is held in the town square for those who passed while those who survive return to their normal lives carrying with them their new found wisdom.

Six months have passed since their first venture into that fated portal.  While only a handful lived and a couple new faces have gathered the parties spirits are high as they reconvene at the Leaping Spirits Grogshop itching for new adventure.  They gather at a large table just as they had before but instead of scared peasants they return as hardened adventurers, the danger very real in their minds.  They discuss the omen they saw in the crystal ball in the portal and the stories they have heard coming from nearby Berdusk.  Those in attendance agree they will be the ones to investigate the troubles.

The Following Are Those who were In Attendance as recorded by Grumby the Innkeeper:

• Anmethwen Sahalndaerl Elven Wanderer of the King of Elfland.  Hilarious, Strong, & Vibrant Anmethwen still bares the wooden door from the portal under the stars as a shield.  In the past six months she has formed a bond with the King of Elfland and shows it proudly with a Prominent Tree Marking of Elfland on her right hand.  When not pleasing her patron Anmethwen helps run the local goods shop, never forgetting her trade growing up as a Chandler.
• Burt Luke Clay Dwarven Agent.  Liberal & Timid Burt Luke returns to the table of adventurers quietly.  His hands are those of a working man because if he's not practicing with his Hand Axe and Shield (A dwarven specialty) he's building the best chests in town.  He dons the Black Stone Enameled Scale Mail Armor from their first venture.  Don't let his timidness fool you for his acumen in battle is proven.
• Dixie Valenzuela Human Cultist. A timid yet ever dangerous young woman only fourteen seasons old.  She was raised on a parsnip farm but has always claimed to talk with dark spirits that granted her blessings.  Her emotional teenage attitude has thwarted her attempts to bond with the lord of the swamp Bobugbubilz with the horn from the portal. She has also failed to unlock the secrets of the crystal globe where they first saw the visions of Berdusk.  In time if her soul and frail body survive the onslaught her magics may be great indeed.
• Galasdaugion Nabrinmyr Elven Wanderer. He carries an air of respect around him and he demands as much from those he adventures with.  He is a very intelligent tactician and is one of the few who trains falcons for use in battle.  His personal falcon never leaves his side, though it's name and it's capabilities are unknown and to this point hasn't been seen by the gathered party.
• Lois Bonner Human Zealot of Azi Dahaka.  Were it not for Lois's cowardice I think she would be the most feared member of the party.  What she loses in her cowardice she gains in the awesome power that she wields.  A madwoman who loves destruction but has found a niche where she could careless if that is destruction to good or evil. Lois grew up a trapper, and we should have known she was sick in the head as she was the only kid I knew who got thrills from killing the animals.  I pray she isn't the downfall of them all.
• Mevoli Grimoath Dwarf Apprentice. Mevoli is a good sort but very hard to read.  He's a by the book kind of dwarf but lords knows what damned book he's following at each moment.  That being said i'd take his shield arm by my side any day if I was deep in a dungeon and needed a friend.  A fine stonemason during his downtime, so he knows the walls of a dungeon better than most. He bares the Blackened Stone Enameled Scale Mail Armor from the Portal under the stars.  Not sure i'd personally wear anything that came from some mystical portal of legend but that's just me.
• Nora Ghoulsmasher Dwarf Apprentice. Nora the Ratcatcher... How that woman hasn't ended up lost in a barrel somewhere i'll never understand.  I feel sorry for her, I hear they are making her front of the line, only a dullard like Nora would accept that without at least asking for a larger share.  She's rather weak too, it's only the luck of the gods she's survived this long and a rather fun time I must say when the Bard's ask her for a story.  Maybe it's all those boogers i've seen her eating, even a goblin wouldn't want a taste of that.
• Octavia Adams Human Wildling. Ah young Octavia, she's the closest thing to nobility this party has.  I've heard she's a squire to a well known knight, though if there's any official affiliations she keeps it quiet.  She bares the Black Stone Enameled Scale Mail from the Portal and is one of the few who covers her noggin with a nice steel helm.

After gathering their things and enjoying their stories the adventurers leave their sleepy hometown of Greenest to arrive in the bustling town of Berdusk.  The party meets with High Lady Cylyria Dragonbreast and tells her of the vision they saw.  She confirms she knows of the ravine and shares the full story of the pit

A great ravine splits the earth here, dividing the fertile northlands
from the wastes of the south. A great blubbery tentacled beast lives
at the bottom of the ravine, and in eons past it would ravage the
land once every generation, rising hundreds of feet above the ravine’s
edges before it shambled forth on slithering appendages to devour all
living things in its path. When a powerful warrior-priest organized
the neighboring villages to offer periodic sacrifices of a dozen virgins
every decade, the pit-beast’s attacks were controlled—but at a cost
civilized man could not stomach. The warrior-priest was dishonored
and his order chased away. The pit-beast retreated to safety within
the ravine itself.

Now a decade has passed since the last sacrifice, and the rumbles
of the pit-beast can once more be heard deep in the pit. This time,
though, there is another factor. People have emerged from the pit,
herding great slithering tentacles before them. These people of the pit
wear gray robes and have no faces. The local peasants have chased the
robed men away on numerous occasions, and now the humble folk
around the ravine fear for their safety. It was enough to fear the beast
of the pit, now must they fear the people of the pit as well? You have
set out to explore the great ravine in search of mystery, adventure,
riches, and fame—and perhaps to aid your neighbors along the way.



Please young adventurers, end this evil so that our young virgin girls can live on untouched.  Do this deed and you will all be rewarded handsomely

With the good tiding of the High Lady Dragonbreast the party gathers their things and travels bravely to the pit.

You stand atop a rocky bluff rising high above a hundred-foot-wide
pit. A stinking gray mist rises from the pit, which sinks into the
earth about a quarter-mile from the great ravine. It is from this pit,
the legends say, that the pit-beast would emerge to feast upon maidens
chained to the bluff. Beside you is a stout iron pole, driven deep
into the rock, with a dozen large rings welded to its length. The rock
below is stained rusty red, and the ground is littered with broken
links of chain. Hundreds of maidens have died here, and they may die
again unless you face down the people of the pit.

When you observe the pit you notice the following:
The pit is about 100 feet wide. An ancient stone staircase is carved into its edge and spirals down around its rim, eventually disappearing into the stinking mist. Local legends say the staircase has existed for centuries, its original masons long forgotten, and the disgraced priestly order retreated down this staircase when forced out of civilization. There is a clear “vanishing point” where the stair disappears into the thickening mist, and at that place you can see dark shapes moving.

It takes around 30 minutes but with the use of rope and moving slow everyone is able to climb down into the ravine.

The closer you get, the worse the pit smells. It stinks of rot and disease,
and the very mist itself seems cloying and dangerous. At the
pit’s edge you see the wide stone steps carved into its side, their edges
slippery and worn by time and the elements. About a quarter-turn
around the pit’s edge, the steps disappear into the dark mist where
murky shapes move about.

The party descends single file, being careful to watch their step as one false move could lead to a long fall deep into the depths of the pit.  Due to the mists visibility is cut down.  As you progress the “horizon line” of visibility continues to advance about 50 feet.

The mists swirl as motion appears within. Five gray-robed men
emerge, holding wicked sickle-shaped blades in their hands. The
heads beneath their hoods are blank flesh, with no faces, and the robes
around their waists ripple strangely. They raise their hands and begin
to make a strange ululating noise, swaying side-to-side.

Those things that look like a poorly made dwarven lunch must be the cultists we heard about.  Take them down quickly!

Anmethwen sheathes her Mithril Dagger and begins to cast a choking cloud.  The magics begin to warp around her in a colorful display.  Those who can see her see her flesh begin to tear open into fresh wounds.  The blood from the wounds flows out and into the orb of energy she is summoning.  A few moment pass and she grimaces in pain and falls to a knee, and the spell energy dissipates.

Nora inches carefully down the steps 10 feet keeping her shield up as she moves near the cultists.  It smell bad, and deez no facers look funny she says in a slow slurred manner that is difficult to understand.

Galasdaugion holds his spear in his left hand and begins to call upon the dark magics of his people.  His falcon rests calmly upon his shoulder unphased by his master's actions.  A disc of blue force begins to form out of thin air and spread over his free arm like a warriors shield.  Galasdaugion's face strains as he tries to control the magic but in the end it's too much for him and the shield fizzles out of existence.

Nora carefully charges ten feet at the approaching cultist shouting and screaming unintelligible words as she takes a wild swing with her club, leaving herself exposed.  She attempts a mighty deed to shove the cultist into the pit with the blow of her club.

Nora's club lands with a mighty crash that crushes the skull of the faceless cultists and knocks the beast off it's feet and into the pit.  The party sees something burst from the cultists stomach that screeches loudly as the robed figure falls into the unknown depths of the pit.

Galasdaugion uses the point of his spear much to the chagrin of his companions and slices deeply into both of his cheeks.  Blood flows profusely down his face, the more that gathers the brighter and more powerful the ball of red mist grows in his hands. A weakness comes over his limbs as he uses his body to further fuel the spell and it's clear what strength he has left wasn't enough.  In a matter of seconds the magics become too much for his skill and dissipates fruitlessly.

Galasdaugion curses angrily to himself as he coughs and rubs his now aching and weakened body.

Lois carefully steps forward ten feet to the next nearest party member.  She holds her bow casually in her left hand and tightly grasps the holy symbol of the infernal hydra Azi Dahaka.  She holds it up and cries out, "Azi Dahaka bring forth your endless destruction upon these foul creatures!  Dessicate them and leave nothing but bones to be picked from the ground!

The Holy Symbol glows brightly then the light fades.  Lois cries out in pain as the holy symbol singes the flash on her neck and Lois alone can feel the disapproving gaze of Azi Dahaka upon her and feels compelled to call out to her god for forgiveness once she is safe again. Lois smiles wildly as her flesh sears, she relishes in the pain as tears well up in her eyes

Up from the pit a giant tentacle rises forth seemingly at the summons of the cultists.  The tentacle races forward towards Nora and tries to wrap around he waist.

Nora's unable to get any oomph behind her attack with her club or her shield as the tentacle wraps up her body and arms.  Try as she might she can't break free of the tentacle's incredible grip.

Galasdaugion moves up behind Anmethwen and as he's moving he rips a tuft of hair from his silken elven hair.  He proceeds to set it aflame, the fire bursts into an unnaturally dark flame and then Galasdaugion breathes the smoke deep into his body.  Galasdaugion proceeds to go into a coughing fit before an explosion of ash bursts from his mouth.  The ash then quickly dissipates as Galasdaugion drops to the ground, a clear physical weakness beginning to show in his muscles.

Lois stands proud with a cruel twinkle in her eye. She Grasps grasps the holy symbol of the infernal hydra Azi Dahaka and shouts Azi Dahaka, Show these fools the might of your power!  Decimate them for their destruction only makes your power grow!

The maw of each hydra head on her symbol shoots out in an arc and slams into the four cultists.  The Cultists panicked by the power of the mighty Azi Dahaka flee down the stairs.  The Cultists in their panic start to run into each other, and one poor cultist falls overboard screeching as it disappears into the foul mist.  Two of the cultists disappear into the mist and one is barely visible way off in the distance.

Lois then carefully moves down the stairs ten feet staying behind Galasdaugion.

Nora along with the help of the summoned eagle is finally able to free herself from the tentacle and lands safely back on the steps gasping for air.  Nora gets back on her feet and slowly moves further down the steps ten feet.

As Nora moves further down the stairs she sees one of the robed cultists at the edge of her visual range.  Rober's down der I sees em! she shouts back to the party.

My fellow teammates hear me!  Accept the power of Azi Dahaka and know true strength!  Only through the dessication of the great Infernal Hydra can we truly destroy this pit monster! Only through him can divine blessings be given.

Lois's message brings discomfort amongst Burt & Anmethwen but they cannot refute the cleric's divine connection saved the life of at least Nora if not many others.  The order of Law still sits strongly in their hearts after this last venture it feels a little chipped away.

Galasdaugion, Octavia, Mevoli, Nora listen intently none of them hold any particular faith towards a specific deity and the Infernal Hydra's awesome show of power through Lois intrigued them. On the other hand the interest to get involved in the war of law and chaos is a slippery one that has scared away many a new member. There's now doubt though the seeds of Chaos have slipped into their minds

Nora specifically feels touched by Lois's prophecies.  While she lacks intelligence she knows whatever Lois did is the reason she still stands alive upon these steps today.

Dixie stands staring with a defiant look, though in her mind she holds onto every word.  Bobugbubilz had considered her unworthy until she had proven herself in his eyes.  It was only natural for such a young impressionable girl as her to consider straying, even if she didn't the thought sat heavily in her mind.  Anyways it's not like she was one of the faithful, she merely craved the power they could provide for a few favors of course.

The party gathers themselves and moves up to the landing Nora last saw one of the cultists.

The stairs level out at a crumbling stone landing about 8’ square. A
thick stone door, inscribed with odd shapes, leads into the natural
rock.

Anmethwen happens to look down as they are traveling down the stairs and notices a cave mouth about fifteen feet below the landing.  After light consideration the party agrees the door with the last known threat behind it is the priority.

Dixie inspects the door and finds nothing of note about the geometric shapes that adorn the door.

After much pushing and shoving Nora and Mevoli make the heavy door budge and shove the stone door open.

You look upon a short passage leading to a small room with an altar. The altar is a huge stone block, inscribed with more of the round symbols you saw on the door. On its broad top are a few strange stones. The room smells of foul incense.

The Eagle flies down the hallway into a new room and as it flies near the doorway two strangely curved daggers come slashing out from either side of the doorway.  The first one pierced the animal in the abdomen while the other slashed down and decapitated the bird.  Blood pours out and sprays on the gray robes of the cultists as it flops on the ground and then the eagle disappears in a black cloud.

The party very clearly see more of the gray robed cultists.  It's clear one of them is the injured cultist from the previous battle on the stairs.

Hearing the death throes of her summoned eagle makes Dixie cringe and a bit of fear runs up her spine.  I need another beast before those things try to hurt me. she thinks quietly as she begins to make the motions of another animal summoning.  In a flash of dark clouds a giant viper appears in front of Nora and begins to hiss loudly.  Kill those in the room my beast!  Dixie shouts as the giant viper heeds her command and begins to move into the room.  The snake rears it's large body up as it reaches the end of the hallway and lashes out at the unhurt cultist biting him in the neck and dropping him immediately.  Shortly after the cultist dropps a little rubber tentacled thing bursts from his chest.  It's tentacles are all covered in sharp barbs and it turns its attention toward the snake.

Unbeknownst to all including Dixie her calling upon these foreign magics have induced an even longer solar eclipse.

Galasdaugion slips past Nora and the snake and gets behind the cultists.  He grips his spear tightly in his right hand and pierces the previously wounded cultist in the face dropping him limply to the floor.  Another of these barbed tentacle creatures bursts from the cultists chest as he dies and turns menacingly towards Galasdaugion.

The last living gray robed cultist tries to sneak around Galasdaugion while he's distracted with the tentacle masses but his Falcon screeches a warning which allows Galasdaugion to easily step out of the way of the cultist's dagger strike.  While Galasdaugion is distracted OctoMass 1 takes multiple pulpy barbed red tentacles and rakes them into Galasdaugion's back doing 3! points of Damage  Galasdaugion still stands but blood begins to cover and stain his mithril buckled leather armor.

Lois moves forward and lightly whimpers in jealousy at Galasdaugion's pained expression.  She then sees the cultist behind him and the urge to bring more of her lords destruction crosses her mind.  Lois drops her head and begins to chant as an otherworldly voice takes over for her own as the Hydra around her neck begins to glow.  She then suddenly pops her head up with her eyes wide open staring in the direction of the third cultist. She points her pointer finger toward the ground and she says Sit but the word seems to come from all around, including the air and ground.

The cultist though it bares no face stands at attention and sits down as if it were enjoying a table at an inn. It continues to stare in Lois's direction totally entranced.
