It had been three years of peace and the survivors from the pit helped the town of Berdusk rebuild and recover from the chaos and fear that had previously existed.  The party of adventurers ahd bought a small plot of land just outside of town with their combined funds and earnings from the High Lady.  The place was a small base of sort sitting on a few acres of farm land that they all shared.  It was more a clubhouse then a base of operations as nothing untoward made the surrounding area have need of adventurers.  Though they were meeting more and more lately as funds were wearing thin, their adventuring funds starting to dry up and discussion of new adventurers were starting to perk up.

The party gathers together for another night of drinking at their favorite local inn The Outrageous Serpent's Tavern.

The inn is eerily quiet. Even the flickering rushlights seem subdued, as if deadened by a fell enchantment. Your heads nod and droop, and the taste of copper is thick on your tongue.

From beneath your door, you hear a soft scratching, like daggers drawn against the floor.

Ape Assassin rushes Mevoli stabs him, shatters his weapon with his fist
Ape Assassin Skewers Bree she slumps on the floor dying

As the beast begins to run Quara gives the beast a distracting stab in the chest while Octavia takes a hefty longsword slash into the beasts femur.  She then kicks the creature backwards digging the blade deeper and slashing it out of its flesh.  The blow had severely slowed the ape So Octavia finished the beast with a skewering strike through it's fleeing back.  It slumps to the ground in agony.

An rushes over and heals Bree but she feels forever weakend with a slash across her face as a permanent reminder.

The beast is searched and none recognize the censor and Dixie declares it a foul thing that she will not associate with or study whatsoever.

Despite waiting a good 9-12 hours studying and examining the scene and talking with others about what had happened and rumors of the nobles falling under the same spell the party decides to try and track where the beast came from.  None seemed very skilled at the task except An who recalled her Courier skills of tracking and finding secretive pathways and found a lead of where this beast came from.

At last their hunt came to an end. The thick forest parts to reveal a broad clearing, split by a gaping ravine. Broken flagstones, crumbling walls, and fallen pillars litter the clearing - at one time this must have been a grand plaza, but now all is given over to ruin

Mevoli repels down and refuses to let anyone move on the platform of 1-1A until he investigates.  He immediately finds that it is in danger of collapse. Bree suggests setting off the collapse from afar which all agree would be the safest and is immediately what they decide to do.

As Mevoli climbs back up the rope to try and trigger the collapse a boulder comes flying down crashing against the rocks.  The party can see more massive apes up above the chasm through the mists hooting and throwing massive boulders.

Mevoli drops down to the ledge leaps and swings across to the other side but his hands slip and he is unable to get a grip on the wet rocks that are slick from the nearby waterfall.

Octavia drops down to the ledge leaps and swings but cannot get close enough to the other side to try and grab the ledge.

The rest of the party waits mid rappel for Octavia and Mevoli to get to the other side so they have room to run and swing to the other side.

Octavia is the first to get a good swing to the other side and successfully grabs the rocky handholds on the other side and begins climbing up

An swings and gets to the other side but her hands keep slipping from the wall.

Mevoli finally gets a strong swing and gets his little stout hands into the handholds of the wall and begins climbing up along with Octavia

Quara made a valiant swing but his hands continue to slip on the rocks.

An swings across and catches the hold on the rocks and joins the others climbing up.

Bree succeeds at swinging across and catching the wet rocky other side of the ravine.

As Octavia comes up to the lip of the chasm the Zain Kin pulls out its short sword and tries to stab her but misses wildly.

The second Zain Kin joins its brethren trying to stab down at Octavia but she brings her shield up and deflects the blow.

Octavia finds an opening between the Zain Kin and pulls herself up and gets up from being prone.  She takes her longsword and quickly slashes upward splitting the Zain Kin in half its guts begin pouring out as its corpse and guts fall and tumbles into the ravine.

The remaining Zain Kin stabs at Octavia again and she shield bashes the blow away. Octavia follows it up with a riposte but the massive ape just grabs her sword arm and throws it backwards nearly knocking her off her feet

Shui makes it across and begins climbing up the ravine

Mevoli reaches the top and joins Octavia in a flank of the Zain Kin.  He takes his knife and stabs the Zain Kin in the stomach and as it roars in pain he takes his shield and his body weight to dive at the beasts knees buckling the beast and sending it sprawling prone on the ground.

The Zain Kin stands up and turns its anger towards Mevoli. The short sword comes in with great force but Mevoli just moves his head to the side and the blade slides across his helmet near his ear. The sharp sound makes his ear ring loudly.

Mevoli builds up a head of steam and leading with his shield smashes the Zain Kin several times up against the ledge.  The beast roars but begins losing its footing and falls down into the misty ravine roaring the entire time.  The beast splats against the round echoing throughout the nearby area and then everything turns silent.

Now that the threat is gone the party uses the boulders left by the Zain-Kin and force the collapse on the opposite ledge.  Mevoli then swings over and investigates the rubble.

The dark corridor is lined with worked stones, each engraved with scores of runes inset with gold. The corridor ends abruptly before a pile of boulders and debris

An comes over and joins Mevoli and while she searches she turns it into an opportunity to preach and spread the gospel of Choranus, the Seer Father, lord of creation.  During her search An comes across a broken flagstone set into the floor.  Beneath it is a hidden space containing a small leather pouch and a blackened, mummified hand.  The hand is locked around a radiant sapphire set within a star-shaped amulet, the point of each arm cast in the shape of a rampant dragon.

Mevoli sees the items found and immediately bolts for the other side.  Scarred by the strange things they found in the pit the dwarf wants nothing to do with these items.  An agrees but calls the others over to see what they have found.

Octavia agrees to take the items and any consequences that come with them. Inside the pouch she finds 50 ancient coins.  Octavia is terrified to find that the mummified hand keeps appearing in her belongings seemingly reappearing no matter what she does to destroy it.

The party finding nothing else of note swings back across and explores the other side.

A portal is set into the chasm wall, partially obscured by the crashing waterfall. A pair of bronze gates stands partially open. Each of hte gates is emblazoned with a stylized dragon. Exposed beneath the platform is a mechanism composed of rusted black gears, a massive fly-wheel and 8 long, rusted glaives

Octavia is the first to cross the threshold and she is in for a frightening surprise as the floor drops out from under her.  She barely dives to the other side to safety.  After getting to safety she views the hole which drops all the way down to the chasm floor below.  All the others jump past the hole and reach the other side safely.

As you inch down the corridor, a sickeningly sweet stench assaults your senses, accompanied with a soft, ceaseless chanting. The floor of the corridor narrows into a slender pathway that arches over a fell laboratory of some sort. Broken into 3 tiers, each level of the chamber is home to a chaotic jumble of arcane experiments and the like. At the very base of the inverted ziggurat is a portal that glints softly in the gloom

Sphere of Needledrakes - Octavia fails and tumbles into the Ooze on tier 3 left paralyzed and prone.

Phammut the Imp tries pushing Mevoli off the ledge and succeeds.  Mevoli tumbles off the ledge landing into the slime next to Octavia and succumbing to the paralysis just as she did. The now visible imp cackles with glee as it floats next to the other members of the party.

An calls on Choranus to smite the ooze but her god does not respond.

Dixie begins calling on her dark magics summoning forth magic missles but her spell goes completely awry.  She loses control of the magic and missles shoot everywhere blasting into friend and foe alike.  This strike destroys all of the newly risen skeletons causing them to burst in a cloud of dust. Shui was the only one impacted by one of the exploding skeletons but he covers his mouth and eyes and avoids any of the shards and dust from impairing him.

The Needledrake swarm begins just gnashing and biting everything it can.  Most in the swarm fend them off but Quara gets a few chunks taken out of him as he struggles to fight them off.

An calls on her god again and she can feel his power flow through her and cast out around her. All can hear the little imps cackling change to a fearful screech and the flapping of wings.  Nothing else appears affected.

Bree steps back and begins hacking at drakes and her hand axes start blending drakes up into fine paste though more still stand flying about causing mayhem.

Dixie begins calling forth another spell a summoning spell when she feels her magic failing her.  She then offers a portion of her body to her patron Bobugbubilz and the offer is accepted.  Her flesh begins to shred off of her back and is replaced with a permanent bright red bleeding scar in the shape of Bobugbubilz symbol.  With the additional power comes great weakness in her body but the spell succeeds where it would have failed.  A strong fetid smell of the swamp fills the air around Dixie as the spell completes.  A gator appears out of nothing near Dixie and the sky goes dark from an eclipse, a common occurrence the party has grown used to when Dixie summons beings from another plane.

The swarm of needledrakes continues to terrorize the group ripping into the gator's flesh and several deep gashes into Shui's exposed flesh.

An braves the danger of the drakes and rushes over to summon healing magic for Quara with the divine aid of Choranus.  Her holy symbol burns with a firey light and Quaras wounds have disappeared.

Bree rushes over to the other side of the swarm and on her way just starts hacking drakes in half with pinpoint accuracy.  Her flurry cuts the swarm down to a quarter of its previous size.

Shui kills a couple drakes with her mithril scissors cutting down their numbers even smaller.

The Gator chomps down and eats a few more of the drakes leaving only a handful left.

An calls forth Choranus's power again but the power is faint and while it does ease some of Brees wounds she is still heavily wounded.

Bree hacks down the last of the needledrake swarm with precision hand axe strikes.  The imp that had been harassing them before was now nowhere to be seen and the ooze at the bottom of the pit appears to be immobile.  After a bit of experimenting the party uses items from a distance to slowly damage the gooey monstrosity until he no longer has any life and shrivels up in what looks to be a death curl.

At the bottom of the pit lie Octavia and Mevoli flesh melted off of both of them.  Their bodies sizzling and smoking.  An heads down to the bottom of the pit to see if they can be saved while the others investigate this upside down ziggurat.

Octavia lives but is severely burned

Mevoli is dead.

Octavia feels an intense feeling of greed from the cursed hand and grabs all of Mevoli's money.  This leads to an intense argument but realizing the danger they are already in the rest of the party chooses to let it slide as it is out of character for Octavia and shes been through a lot of physical trauma recently.

The rest of the gear is divvied up between the party and then they go back across the chasm and camp for the night. An heals up most of their wounds with the grace of Choranus and only Bree is left with any leftover wounds which are minor.  Octavia bears her scars but seems determined to take the fight back to the temple and get her revenge on that little imp.

The party searches the various tiers and only finds a potion of healing of any usage which is given to Bree since she still bears some wounds.

They reach the 3rd tier and the floor is still very acidic and dangerous but a large brass portal is their only exit.  Octavia angry and determined walks directly into whats left of the Jelly and attempts to pull the door open.

After a long group effort and some close calls with the acid An finally gets the door wrenched open.
