The Soul of a City - Harper

The club was hopping and the opening act Maddie's Hatters was just finishing up.  They were decent but not great.  More of a garage band than mainstream but the crowd tonight loved them.  Their final set of the night and the lead singer, Madeline "Maddie", was tearing it up through a rousing rendition of Enter Sandman.  It might have been their best performance ever and probably not one they could ever hope to match.

The bartender, Jared, was rocking out and flirting with various women and fist bumping like a Jersey Shore retard with all the dudes.  Of course he was always very popular and his hair was a mess as he headbanged to the beat.  As the song wrapped up he settles next to Harper at the bar.

"Damn....that was hella badass.  I'd hate to have to follow that this night.  Poor second band is going to be booed offstage or drowned out by the chorus of cheers for an encore."

Chuckling he cheers as Maddie took a bow with a big almost uncontrollable grin. It was an infectious smile and her band mates high fived each other behind her.

"Wooooooooohooooo!  Hell ya Maddie!......yup...no way to top that...might as well shut down the club..."

Although she was fairly certain she could have done just as well or better, she wasn't so petty as to begrudge Maddie her big night. She grinned, clapped, and cheered with the rest of the crowd. "She's on fire tonight," she agreed with Jared.

The energy of the club washed over Harper, lit her up from the inside. She might be dead now, but being in the middle of the crowd still made her feel alive. She toyed with the beer she had been nursing all night and wondered if that would fade with time, or if her basic nature would prevail over the long years ahead of her. Finally, she decided that it didn't matter -- tonight, it was enough.

Seeing she didn't take his bait, Jared smirks and reaches under the bar.  When he raises his hands up he has a small silver scroll case.  Setting it down next to Harper he rolls it towards her left hand and shrugs his shoulders.

"Some twitchy dude dropped that off.  Seemed really weird but after he gave me it to me I just really wanted to make sure it got to you.  Weird, right...well anyway Ive been carrying that thing around all day.  I felt like a damn D&D reject, but its here now."

Laughing loudly he seems he's pretty content with the scroll case moving to her hands.  With that he turns and begins filling drink orders, beginning with five shots of Fireball...
[Private to Harper Belmont: The scroll reads as follows
Harper,
We've been made aware of you and, if we're aware then most certainly she's aware.  The night is dark but the light is coming.  When darkness shrinks from the light, where will you hide?

Find Brianna Duncourt and find salvation.  Beware of the Spaniard with the melodic voice.

Harper wrinkled her nose in distaste as the smell of cinnamon and whiskey. She had never cared for gimmicky drinks.

Opening the scroll case and unfurling its contents, Harper scanned the message. Her eyebrows drew together in confusion. She wasn't sure who either of the people mentioned were, had no idea how to go about finding -- or avoiding -- them.

Looking up, she scanned the room, wondering if one of the bodies dancing frenetically belonged to a woman named Brianna.

A few faces peer back from the crowd but mostly the glances of either recognition of Fame or drunken lust but none stand out as too much worth noticing.  Unfortunately the glance into the crowd did catch the attention of one girl with black braided hair, a Deadpool t-shirt and a pair of old jeans matched with black boots (more Uggs style than anything).

A shy smile plays about her face as she approaches haltingly and speaks without making eyes contact.  "Are....are you playing tonight?  I....Ive seen all your shows and....you...the ban....your musi.....YOU'RE AMAZING!!!  Can I...would you let me grab a selfy?"

Harper couldn't help the grin that spread over her face. It was always gratifying to have a fan. "Not playing tonight, but yes, you can absolutely take a selfie!" She positioned herself beside the girl and stretched her smile even wider.
