E5S2 - Blue Sea R&D - Ty'daal, Angelfish, Time Keeper
Everyone:
It's been a couple of weeks since the capture of the Tinker. All of you, as well as the rest of the city's heroes, were honored by Mayor Arakawa at a ceremony in front of City Hall, and broadcast on DTN. There was a little drama; Storm Warden refused to appear unless Tropic Thunder was also included; TechKnight was invited, but didn't show up... All-in-all, though, it was a lovely occasion.

Akamai City is recovering well; contractors and glaziers have been making a killing repairing the damage done by the Tinker's army and Brain Coral's psi-shockwave, and the idea of "supervillain insurance" is getting a lot of attention from everybody.

Blue Sea Research and Development suffered relatively little damage; Dr. Ishida reinforced the windows and structural members of the building when he bought it. You're gathered in and around the moon pool in Ishida-san's lab; three humans, an alien, and a dolphin.

Time Keeper:
After the ceremony at City Hall, you heard Angelfish and Ty'daal talking about an encounter with "the Sorceress Supreme". That was the term the mystery woman you encountered outside the time stream used for herself! Now you've come to meet the fourth person to encounter her--a dolphin named "Sharkbaiter"!

The alien warrior floats in the moon pool, letting the sea water replenish his strength and cleanse the filthy processed city water from his pores. He has his head just above the water, allowing him to both hear and speak to the land dwelling inhabitants of his new home.

Angela settles down on the edge of the pool, feet dangling in the water, coffee cup in hand...

"Sharkbaiter seemed to think that the Sorceress was able to more her island at will.  Even with the readings and coordinates from the Kiyomi Maru, finding her is not going to be easy..."

She pauses to take a sip, "More data points are better of course, but I don't know that Sharkbaiter's memory of where the "floating island" has been will really translate into coordinates we can use..."

Re: E5S2 - Blue Sea R&D - Ty'daal, Angelfish, Time Keeper
Ishida-san spins around in his chair. "Maybe it can..." He muses. "I can display topographic maps of the ocean floor holographically!"

The waterproof computer terminal Ian used earlier to "speak" with the dolphin defender is still submerged. Dr. Ishida makes a few adjustments to a blue-green laser emitter, wraps it in plastic, and asks Ty'daal to connect it to the terminal. "It's a human technology called 'USB'; whichever way you try to plug it in, you're always upside-down the first time."

When the holographic seafloor image materializes, Sharkbaiter makes a low, drawn-out "Squaaa-aaa-aaa-k'k'k!"

The audio translation follows an instant later, as the dolphin slowly rotates on his long axis, drifting through the hologram. : self : large/huge : whale/UNT : more : exclamation-modifier :

Time Keeper watched the activity of the others as they fused around the dolphin " You spoke of a woman calling herself the sorceress supreme, I have met her and I can tell you she is not the nicest of people to invite to a party. She's cold calculating and I had the feeling I was but a fly caught in her web."

Re: E5S2 - Blue Sea R&D - Ty'daal, Angelfish, Time Keeper
Dr. Ishida is busy plotting points on the map as Sharkbaiter swims through the hologram, floating tiny bubbles from his blowhole as he reaches certain coordinates. "This doesn't make any sense..." he mumbles. "Sharkbaiter's sense of when the island was where may not be entirely clear to me, but..."

An arc of sightings curves below the big island on Ishida-san's map, punctuated with one west of Kailua Kona. Other sightings north of Kauai and Maui don't seem to fit into the pattern. "The island floats, and it moves... but there's no way it sailed from here to here without someone spotting it!" Ishida says, stabbing a finger at a northern and then a southern sighting.

"Unless it moves out of time" replied time keeper " I encounter the sorceress in the time streams but deep in where I've never been before. If she can control time to that extent then she could possibly move an island by those means"

"Question, why are we concerned about this witch? Is she an immediate threat to your city?" Ty'daal asked, floating on his back while slowly swimming in a circle around the moon pool.

"Hmm, indeed noble creature. Those shark people were most disrespectful to other life below. If casting down this sorceress will also lead to destroying the sharks, then I will lend my assisstance," Ty'daal responded.

Re: E5S2 - Blue Sea R&D - Ty'daal, Angelfish, Time Keeper
Dr. Ishida plots various conjectural "course tracks" for the floating island, taking into account Time Keeper's theory that it might be moving in time as well as in space. The lines across the map screen jump around and criss-cross. "I can't make sense of this; no pattern emerges..."

Ishida-san stubs out his cigarette in an over-full ashtray. "Time travel gives me a headache."

" Me to" said Time Keeper with a chuckle as he leaned over the map to try and make sense of all the lines if that was possible.

OOC is there something I need to roll against for this?

Time Keeper:
The lines intersect, there's no coherence to them. Without a pattern, predicting the location of the island's next appearance would require the ability to see the future...

Time Keeper:
...and if the Sorceress Supreme shifts her island through deep time, even that might not be enough.

Everyone:
Sharkbaiter aims his bottle-nose at a particular point region of the holographic map. : pods/groups : sing/tell : sharks : hunt/chase : sharks : here/there(?) : The area he indicates is south of Ni'ihau, at the westernmost tip of the island chain.

"Ni'ihau--the 'Forbidden Island'." Ishida-san grunts. "That whole island is private property; half game preserve, half plantation. If sharks are acting strange near there, no one but the dolphins would know..."

Time Keeper:
As a Kanaka Maoli, you know about Ni'ihau: King Kamehameha V sold the island to a Scotswoman in the 1800s. Her descendants own it still; the family runs the island, and a hundred or so Kanaka Maoli live and work there. No electricity, no phone service, no paved roads, no cars; it's very nearly a historical recreation of ninteenth century Hawai'ian life. The Navy has a base there, but it's all automated--no permanent personnel. The owners like their privacy.

Time Keeper:
It occurs to you that you could probably wrangle an invitation to Ni'ihau, if you played your cards right. A'alona Kalakona, a white-haired tribal elder who knew your grandfather, lives there. You remember her distinctive Ni'ihau accent from the funeral. Also the weird way she was eyeing you...

" I might have a way of getting onto the island myself .... let us just say I know a friend of a friend that might or might not wish to see me. I will find out and let you all know." with that the master of time wrapped himself in the fabric of time and sped away back to his clock shop.

Once there he made a phone call to A'alona Kalakona " reverent one " he spoke in the traditional greeting to one of her age and wisdom. "It is Ben here I wish to ask you a few questions about grandfather and you knew him better than most having served together on the council of elders together. Would you allow me to come visit tomorrow if you are free." he asked.

It felt a bit awkward being so formal especially as the old lady used to bounce him on her knee when his was a babe and he used to call her nanny Kal but he'd not seen her since the funeral and accepted he was no longer a child and that he had to follow the traditions if he was going to be permitted to visit.

Re: E5S2 - Blue Sea R&D - Ty'daal, Angelfish, Time Keeper
Even for the master of time, arranging for a simple phone call to Ni'ihau is an all-day affair. The only telephones on the island are at the heliport where tourists & invited guests get dropped off for day-trips. First you had to call, then someone had to go down to the village to get A'alona Kalakona and help her to the tourist office, then they called you back.

Maybe it's because she had to walk such a distance, or because she had to interrupt her day, but she sounds testy on the phone. It makes her Ni'ihau vowels a bit harder to follow. "<I have a few questions, too, boy. Come if you want.>" It doesn't sound much like an exercise in proper Hawai'ian hospitality, but she agrees to meet with you.

Ok, thought TK, not the best of welcomes from the old dear, but still a yes was a yes. He waited a while before grabbing his bag and finding a deserted stretch of coast shot out across the water towards the island. He landed on a quiet beach, he knew the island from when he visited with his grandfather, so knew where was safe to touch down.

He then took the mile or so walk into the town itself and up to A'alona Kalakona's house and knocked on the door

Meanwhile, Ishida-san looks around to see that Time Keeper has vanished. "If he intends to investigate on dry land, I agree with Ty'daal. We should investigate underwater. I'll fuel up the Kiyomi Maru."

Angela rises gracefully from the side of the pool and starts toward the equipment lockers.  "I'll get the gear ready."  She pauses and turns back to the non-humans in the room.  "Ty'daal, do you and Sharkbaiter want to scout ahead?  You're welcome to join us on the boat, of course, but there's really no good way to make that safe or comfortable for Sharkbaiter..."

She continues on to the lockers, still speaking aloud, although she no longer seems to be addressing Ty'daal...  "...see how the new upgrades to the suit work in the real world...  think I'll load Sharkbaiter's dry-suit as well, may come in handy..."
