E5S9 - Streets of Hong Kong - Nereid
Nereid:
It's a long swim across the bay, but you're in good shape.

The three demons clamber out of the water near a ferry terminal. Two of them shift form immediately, becoming a very ordinary looking Chinese man in work shirt and sturdy pants and a very ordinary looking Chinese man in a white shirt and tie. They're still drenched, of course, and the one in the tie is walking like everything hurts. You find a ladder at the ferry dock and climb up, hoping they don't see you.

After a moment's conversation, the third demon changes into Jackie Chan! Or at least Jackie Chan's stunt double, wearing a beige shirt with gold buttons and a stiff stand-up collar. His outfit seems more drip-dry than what the other two are wearing.

Limping to the road, the demon wearing the tie hails a blue-liveried taxi-cab. The three of them clamber into the back seat as you lurk behind some low bushes. listening. "九龍寨城公園*." The one with the tie says to the driver.

If you want to follow them, there are plenty of other taxis waiting to pick up ferry passengers. Given traffic in Hong Kong, you can probably keep up with them on foot if they're not going far...

OOC: I am paying a point of Determination to contact Agent Kwai-Pun without being able to see her.

Agent, they are headed to Kowloon Walled City Park...I am gonna follow. They look normal now...but I think I can point them out.

Kai briefly debates taking a taxi , but her increasingly sore legs seem less a pain than the traffic so she follows on foot.

Could I attempt to hook up with one of the demons?

[OOC: You mean, hook up telepathically? Pick a demon, then Test Telepathy vs the target's Willpower.]

Agent Kwai-Pun's voice in your head is clear, but she seems... distracted. "We are on the way! I'm calling headquarters for back-up." Her agitated surface thoughts seem to be bleeding over into the communication. 哦,上帝,你会得到我们杀了!Detective, here we drive on the left!

Keeping up with the taxi, thanks to the rolling traffic jam that is Hong Kong, isn't hard. It stops by a stone gate in a decorative ironwork fence. The sign's are conveniently in both Chinese and English: "Kowloon Walled City Park" and "South Gate".

The fine print on the gate sign gives some references to the historical building at this end of the park. It was originally the Assistant Magistrate of Hong Kong's office and home. Later it was used as an orphanage; now it's a museum and gift shop.

You can lurk safely just inside the gate, near a fallen stone slab split in half and engraved with "Kowloon Walled City" in Cantonese. It's obviously another historical monument.

The demons pile out of the taxi and head toward the building. You're about to follow discretely to keep them in sight, but they stop near a hexagonal stone block. The attached tourist information sign calls it the "Old Well".

The lead demon shoves the hip-high stone aside, revealing a circular stone-lined hole. One by one, they start climbing down.

There are a couple of young children lurking in the shadows near the building. Theyre watching the disguised demons--and they're watching you, too. Their eyes are entirely dark, as if they're all pupil...

Kai tries to telepatically connect with "Jackie Chan" when she notices the children.

Oh Goodness...what's up with you guys? I mean the blacvk eye thing means you are more than just random kids right?

OOC: Don't know if multitasking gives me a penalty but still trying the telepathy thing

00:14, Wed 07 Jan 2015: Nereid rolled -1 using 2d6-7 ((2,4)).

Nereid:
As you connect mentally with the two children, it's as if they're eyes expand to fill your entire mental "field of vision". Remember those paintings of sad-eyed children? It's like that, and much more--and you feel it too. Endless sorrow, patient dispair, knowing that the sadness will never, ever, end... It saps your will to do anything, even resist!

Nereid:
Instantly, the sadness in your mind ceases. Just as quickly, the sad-eyed children flicker and become like shadows sliding along the wall of the old orphanage building. Other shadows are moving, up under the eaves, and among the nearby trees...

The last demon down the well pulls the stone back over the top, getting it mostly re-aligned. Your fleeting contact with the mind of the demon that looked like Jackie Chan was... weird and difficult. He's either got better mental defenses than you would expect, or maybe he's shapechanged from something else; either way, the faint sense of thoughts in "Jackie's" head didn't seem like they were his...

Making my way to the well, I try moving the stone... (never can tell it might be heavier than it looks)

Nereid:
It's pretty heavy, but you're pretty athletic. As the stone slides aside, you can hear noise echoing from waaaay down below; splintering wood, a loud crash, someone yelling in Chinese, and... maybe... something that sounds like dogs howling!

The stonework of the old well has convenient hand-holds built into the side...

Goodness...go down the scary hole....heedless of the fact that  I am neither  bulletproof nor super strong. Or run away like a coward and wait for one of my more super friends to come by..

With a sigh she begins to descend using the convenient hand-holds.

Re: E5S9 - Streets of Hong Kong - Nereid
You climb down the well, all the way to a damp stone floor. You're in a tunnel with an arching roof and rough-hewn walls. The supports holding up the roof are elaborately carved arches featuring coiling dragons and clawing tigers. The lacquer work is colorful, intricate, and badly damaged by centuries of damp.

The air is thick with the smells of incense. At the far end of the tunnel is a set of heavy, ornately carved wooden doors, standing partly open. Beyond them is a broad, high-ceilinged hall, painted in red and highlighted with peeling gold leaf. Antique weapons and armor line the walls, but some of the racks and brackets are empty, and the room is deserted.

All the way at the far end is an elaborate shrine, on a platform. Incense sticks the size of garden rakes stand in rows along its front, producing the heavy scent.

On either side of the hall, just before you get to the shrine, are heavy double doors. Both sets are standing open--but the chaotic sounds of battle are coming from the doors on the right!
