Ian:
It's trivially easy for you to hack into the Akamai City Public Library computers. Now the Shoals branch library has a record of Todd Atkins checking out The Great Gatsby, Absalom, Absalom!, Native Son, The Grapes of Wrath, To Kill a Mockingbird, Infinite Jest, and The Catcher in the Rye. Jon Dos Passos books and the "new" Harper Lee Mockingbird prequel are on his hold list. That should do it.

[OOC: Test Intellect vs a Difficulty of 9. Your Criminology bonus applies; it's just as useful for committing crimes as it is for solving them. :) Success gets you the Advantage "Todd's Love of the Great American Novel", hopefully with some free activations.
(The high difficulty isn't to get the information in there, that's easy; it's to make the details convincing to someone--or something--that shows every sign of being just as smart as you are.)]

Everyone:
[OOC: Yes! New issue, new Determination. I should have mentioned that...]

Time Keeper:
"Always in motion is the future..." Somebody wise said that once, and you've found it to be true. The time-streams are distorted, almost as if they're folding back upon themselves. You see visions of yourself and your friends, battling a strange man with blond hair, olive skin, and gray eyes. But events and even the location shift; a cafe in the Shoals, a dojo, a library... The probabilities keep changing. One thing remains--you and your friends are losing the fight!

Ian:
[OOC: 12 beats 9 by 3, which is a Major Success, so you get two free activations of "Todd's Love of the Great American Novel" without spending any Determination.]
The cyber-search appears to have taken the bait. It's streetlight camera archive search zeroes in on the intersections near the Shoals branch of the Akamai City Public Library. Fortunately, Todd's apartment is nearby; he is visible in several images.

Images... While hacking the library, you have (of course) also been musing about the artifact's peculiar properties. Your rational mind immediately dismisses any thought that the murderous spectre associated with the artifact might be Moray'arity's ghost. It has the appearance of Moray'arity, but not his behavior. He was murderous, yes; but not so randomly aggressive. The kingfish-of-crime never killed without a good reason--at least from his distasteful point of view. The spectre is an image, just as much as the artifact is!

When you were pulled through time, you behaved in a predictable manner; you were a detective among your own people, now you are a detective among humans. It was the obvious thing to do. If Moray'arity had been pulled through time as well, his behavior should be equally predictable.

A megalomaniacal sociopath, cast adrift among the primitive humans of 10,000 years ago... He would rapidly reason out that he was a castaway in time, and he would desire to make a return trip at all costs. But how? He would need technology, but all he had at hand was primitive labor. He would have terrorized the humans into submission; made himself their ruler, perhaps even their god. He may well have jump-started human civilization by creating the Neolithic Age--pottery, agriculture, and all the rest--in his quest for technological development. But at what cost to the human psyche?

Ben snapped out of the time stream slightly worried about what he saw.

" The time paths are undefined" he spoke out to the others " I see us fighting a tall blond, olive skinned man with grey eyes but the location keeps moving... the only constant is the fight..... and e seem to be loosing it in every version"

That sounds like us, getting our butts kicked all around the globe.

Obviously Time Keeper has never seen the guy who will one day beat us, and that description doesn't ring a bell for me...anyone?

"Since the internet search seems to center on you, Todd, I'm guessing he's an enemy of yours - you haven't made many of those, right?" Angela flashes a grin at Todd, then continues, "Obviously, we need to get a step ahead of this guy if we can.  Maybe keep Todd away from his apartment?  Keep him somewhere safe until we can get a grip on this thing."

"Actually Angela, I'd say that Todd's completely aloof and reckless attitude, Todd makes approximately 1.2365 new enemies per day, on average. Now, if we...
Ooh... I see... That was a joke.
Ahem, anyway, I'd suggest that, rather than hiding Todd, we do the opposite and give this Unknown enemy what they want."

Amm-Fibian places his pipe back in his mouth and pulls his Holmes hat down a bit.

"It's elementary really."

"This is great," Todd grizzles. "I'm the one person in the room who isn't a technical genius, and someone's tech to track me down."

He crosses his arms and glowers at the screen.

"Ok. One of you wizards figure out who it is, and where, so I can go beat the snot out of 'em."

Todd:
Tech... something about that rings a bell. You remember a conversation you had with μ-90, months ago. He said something about a high-tech threat...

quote:
"There's something you should know, but it's not a good idea for information to flow back in time. Still, this is potentially pretty important, so..."

"Look, there's this guy, λ-719. He's stolen a time machine, and he's used it. I've heard through the q-net that he intends to change the past somehow. He doesn't look like what we look like now, he looks like one of you primitive-types he's got an artificially-grown body. Very artificial. His bones are solid computronium, he's got a fusion reactor in his right thigh, and his sensorium is enhanced. He will see you coming. Time travel is uncertain, but you need to be aware of this. Be very careful if he shows up during your lifespan."

"There, you see? More comforting words were never spoken! Now, someone who is better with human society than I should post something on that FriendFace website. Something about Todd meeting a fellow classic novel enthusiast at a vulnerable location."

Amm-Fibian picks up his Sherlock Holmes compilation and begins reading.

Angela steps over to the computer, "O.K. one 'FriendFace' post coming up!".  She grins at Amm-Fibian's malapropism, and begins to type.

"Let's see, how's this sound - 'Hey!  Just finished reading Slaughterhouse-Five and I can't wait to talk to you about it!  Meet me at Kona Hut for coffee at 3!' So, now that I've painted a target on my favorite beachfront coffee shop, all we have to do is show up and wait for some guy from the future to try to kill Todd."

Turning back to the pool, Angela gets serious.  "If we're going to protect Todd, I've gotta suit up, so I can't actually be the 'fellow classic novel enthusiast' on the beach.  Kai, you want to impersonate me?  Meet Todd for coffee, talk about Vonnegut, and pretend you're not waiting to be ambushed?"

(OOC - I'm instantiating "Kona Hut" a small coffee shop located on the beach in a public area, but not surrounded by other building.  Angelfish is trying to minimize collateral damage.

Also - where did Amm-Fibian get a waterproof copy of Sherlock Holmes?!)

Ty'daal raises his head from the water after having listened to the on-going discussion, "I can stay off-shore in the shallows, to watch for any trouble from the sea or respond quickly if there is a problem."

"Perfect Angela, now we just need someone to monitor the internet, the coffee shop, and the time stream. Ty'daal can watch the sea, and I will impersonate a coffee patron in one of my infamous disguises."

OOC: Not only had Amm-Fibian somehow waterproofed a copy of the Homes collection, but he is also somehow unaware of Holmes continuing popularity in modern times. He assumes everyone thinks the personality traits he has borrowed from Holmes are his.

Kai looks at Angela like a confused puppy.

Oh honey you are like five inches taller than me and ...we'll...ahem.

Anyway...I can pretend to be be a Vonnegut fan....that much is doable....

OOC: I just had to have a little fun with the huge physical differences in our team's women. The tall shapely red head and the petite athletic brunette

Time slowed for a second as the donut flew, suspended in mid air Ben stood took a bite then replaced it on the plate in front of Todd.

Sitting back down time sped up again. With a grin on his face "cheers Todd I needed the sugar rush" as he wiped his mouth on a tissue

Dr. Ishida makes a pointed effort to ignore the hijinks occurring in his lab, and gestures toward the wall monitor. "Whoever it is, they've taken your bait." The screen shows map views zooming in on the beachfront location of Kona Hut. Images from nearby traffic cameras flicker onto the screen. "Look at the time-stamps! Those are live views--If you are going to lay an ambush for Todd's ambusher, you'd better hurry. Tempus fugit!"
