Strange Island in The Atlantic
As you are teleporting in, you realize the co-ordinates supplied by Majestic Ocean (who is called Manateen by everyone else) are a fair distance above the surface of the island. This is actually fortunate, as you can look down on the roof and see a few dawdling individuals.

OOC: you should be able to see a map, it shows the rooftop
S is some guy tossing coins into the air and then shooting them with a pistol
R is either a very rat-like man, or a very man-like giant rat
T1,T2, and G look like civilians working on a radio tower.
none of them see you

--> From: Miller's Circus

In reply to Shortcut (msg # 100):

Vrilstar shakes his head, "...no, I don't think its best to send in any team under powered.  The Island IS defended and Dr. Apocalypse is no fool... pure stealth is not likely to~...."

Then~ SUDDENLY; they are all falling from the sky high above the Island of the Mastermind supervillian...

Vrilstar gasps at Shortcut, "Goodness SAKES Girl!  You have impulse issues!!!  We did not even have time to establish communications between the teams...!"

But Vrilstar reacts fast grabbing the young woman in his arms as he activates his Vril Wings to slow their fall to a controlled glide... while gesturing with his Vril Rod to shift the EM light frequencies in a 4 meter radius {24'ft diameter} sphere centered upon himself to mirror the surrounding terrain in effect creating a camouflaging 'Predator-light effect' over Vrilstar, Shortcut, and Battlemaster...

MP - Vril Wings: "Gliding" - Flight 10m, x8 Noncombat [Active 20pts]

VPP - Vril Rod: Images - Mirror Camouflage to Surroundings, Sight Group [10pts], Perception Mods = -4 [12pts], Area of Effect 4 meter Radius [+0.25] [Active 27.5pts]

Vrilstar holds Shortcut close... swallowing hard as he makes every attempt to keep his hands from groping the young woman unnecessarily...

To Shortcut his touch is gentle and gentlemanly... his arms strong and reassuring... the warmth of his closeness filling her senses, in fact his powers in use give his touch a very pleasant 'tingly' feel.  Noticibly, Johanthan/Vrilstar is no weakling.. not musclebound but clearly an athletic and maintained physique... despite being clearly more of the studious type...

Icon moves to orbit Battlemaster and buzz softly to him relaying Vrilstar's words to him in a soft whisper repeating word for word his spoken words across the mindlink the two share~ "Follow closely as you can Battlemaster... I'm covering us ALL with a light-refracting camouflaging-field... I'm gliding toward the north-eastern corner of building {a}... should break any line of sight any of the 'defenders' have to spotting us when we land..."

OOC: I can see said map.  About how big is the roof?  Id 'b' a helipad?  and is 'TB' anyone we can see/ should be worried about?  And how is the weather?  What is the time of day, now that I think about it?

Shortcut doesn't give off any particular reaction as Vril holds her, seeming a bit more intent on their surroundings.  "huh... Higher than I expected.  And you worry too much.  I'm sure Battlemaster has enough radio equipment in that tin can a' his to talk to Mars.  Speakin' of talking, we 'ere doin' way too much of that.  Bunch a' you back in that tent just jabbering on about who's smarter and better at leadin' us in or how we should solve the problem instead a' just gettin' on with what we need to do."

On the map, each of the smaller squares would be 2m on a side. R is a furry, rat-like humanoid. S is a guy tossing coins into the air and shooting them, G, T1, and T2 work on some sort of antenna. TB is a brawny young guy shadow boxing (he looks to be pretty good).
As you are watching, the large 'D' turns out to be doors that pivot up, and four small vehicles come zipping out.

When the hangar doors are open, four small aircraft launch from the hangar. They whip away from the building in four separate directions, all of them moving slower than the speed of normal aircraft.

OOC: I thought 'S' was a guy tossing coins in the air and shooting them with a pistol, not a woman.
Shepherd replies:
He was, before, now he is, again

Also, are the Air Calvary moving much slower or much faster than normal aircraft?  The wording is somewhat ambiguous.

Shepherd replies:
I've expounded on the speed of the craft

If I were a superhero, I would be the Question.  Because I always keep asking them. :)

Shepherd replies:
I like The Question. I read that one when Charlton was printing the things on the cereal box machine.

In reply to Shortcut (msg # 3):

Vrilstar notes the shifting forces of the defenders... not sure if they are in reaction to their sudden 'Shortcut' arrival or if they were just coincidental, but all the activity makes him very wary..

Mind moving rapidly as he tries to discern if any enemies are moving to engage them, {If we have not been spotted yet.. it will not be long before we are; IF we don't get under some solid cover ...FAST!}

Then he notes the Large "D" Doors opening for small the quartet of small intercept/search{?} vehicles that come flying out... and reacts to take advantage of the situation...

Whispering to the ...rather lovely bundle of young woman in his arms, "Hush.. Shortcut, and hang on!"

Vrilstar shifts his gliding decent to come within reach of Battlemaster and expanding his will he creates a Vril Path to instantly teleport them all to inside the Large Vehicle bay revealed by the open "D" doors without traveling the intervening distance... hopefully avoiding any detection of their presence and find immediate cover from sight of the base defenders.

MP - Vril Wings: "Gliding" - Flight 10m {Adjust glide angle} [Active 20pts - 0 END]

"Vril Path" - Teleport 13m, x4 Increased Mass, x4 Noncombat [28 Active - 3 END]

Total END spent = 6

Inside the hangar (for this is where Vrilstar takes you) are several hydraulic lifts, the controls for the same, and a fair number of tools. There are four men in the area, apparently putting things away. Although t1 looks in your general direction, he doesn't say or do anything else.
All four of these men are wearing shoulder holsters with automatic pistols in them, though they are obviously more technician than soldier.

"This is going really well," Battlemaster whispers under his armored face-plate, "we haven't been vaporized yet."

Pointing to the techs he suggests, "We should probably find a terminal and try to pull up a map of the compound.  Those 4 there are good bets to have the necessary access codes."

In reply to Battlemaster (msg # 9):

Vrilstar ponders the four men in the Vehicle Hanger...

Whispering to Battlemaster and Shortcut, "...don't move beyond 12 feet from me..but look around for any exits out of the hanger into the base proper.  As for the technicians... I can jam their radios..as I'm sure they have some form of commlink, so they cannot signal the alarm.  Shortcut t-port bounce one of them out to sea about 10 miles, Battlemaster if you can closeline two of them I can mental illusion the fourth to see nothing out of the ordinary, then probe his mind for any access codes and base floor plan.  Sound like a good plan or would you rather I just probe one of their minds for the access codes we may need and the base floor plan and then we all slip quietly into the base ...leaving them be?"

Shifting his attention he stretches out his mind to target one of the technicians...

"Now, now," BM chuckled as he scanned the room in both normal and IR for signs of surveillance, "never underestimate a well-timed entrance."

Battlemaster rolled 10 (with 3 body) using 3 with the Hero (Champions) system.  Per 13- - looking for surveillance in hanger.

Looking around, you see no security cameras, or sensors of any sort. You also notice, now, that the technicians are not all male. T3 has gotten a buzz cut to go for the GI Jane look (she did fail to pull it off, by the way) but is the only female among the technicians. They are all wearing identical jumpsuits, toolbelts, and Sam Brown's with identical pistols.
T3 does a double-take over her shoulder, then turns and points in your direction. "Hey, guys, do you see something over there?"
T2 is pulling his pistol from the holster before he turns around, but once he has it out he waves it left and right while whipping his head back and forth, asking "what? what?"
The other two technicians glance, but don't turn around or anything of the sort (although T1 does roll his eyes at T2).

Shortcut suddenly goes on the offensive, teleporting so quickly she seems to be in four places at once, she lands a solid blow on each of the technicians before blinking back in beside Vrilstar and Battlemaster. Rightfully assuming that Shortcut has initiated hostilities, Battlemaster spins and fires his blasters, spreading his beam in an attempt to catch two of the technicians. The female technician is still reeling from Shortcut's blow, and as Battlemaster blasts the woman she stumbles back and falls to the floor. The other technician does not escape the blow, and is lifted from his feet and knocked to the floor. He sits up to one elbow and shakes his head as he paws at his shoulder holster. Vrilstar decides he doesn't wish to be left out, and spreading his own blast he strikes the other two technicians. The technician by the wall staggers back to the wall. The other technician flies back to the door and lays peacefully near the unconscious woman.

Vrilstar nods to Shortcut and Battlemaster... "You two... KO the last two, then hide their bodies... like in Figi or somewhere far away but stranded and unable to escape, Shortcut.  I have a mental schematic of the base...I'll have Icon project an image of the map so your visual recorders~ I assume you have such installed Battlemaster can copy the map for you."

Turning to Shortcut, "..time for some subterfuge.  One of the technicians was a woman.. you take her uniform and I'll just take one of the other male tech's jumpsuits so we can move about the base a little more freely.  They have pass cards that have different levels as access, so collect their gear, weapons and radios."

"Battlemaster... find yourself some electronics maintenance room to secure yourself in to hack into their data network... I'm going to setup a mindlink Rapport with you so we ...all three of us can talk with each other and our communications not be detected, listened to or jammed.  Shortcut and I will be your eyes and ears to search the base for the gate control."

Vrilstar leans against the wall to take a few moments to rest and recover...

OOC:
    Based on your location
  • those arriving on the cube can see the roof but not the third floor, there is a map in the combat thread
  • those already involved in the location can see the third floor, but not the roof

    On the roof
  • S is some guy tossing coins into the air and then shooting them with a pistol
  • R is either a very rat-like man, or a very man-like giant rat
  • T1,T2, and G look like civilians working on a radio tower
  • TB is a youngish guy, dressed like a dockworker, shadow boxing
  • AC1 through AC4 appear to be a form of ultralight aircraft with a mounted laser cannon

On the third floor, T1 through T4 are technicians of some sort, armed with automatic pistols, all unconscious

"Oh you know it," Battlemaster nods as he moves to an unconscious technician and relieves him of his tool belt, "Fully 3 dimensional, twin receptors with a 2.5 petabyte persistence repository.  Little limited in EM spectrum coverage and the sorting and recovery algorithm to retrieve data later could use some work but overall it's a decent system.

Examining the technician's radio, Terry attempts to determine if his armor's communication systems can listen in on base transmissions.

Barring any nearby equipment which could be used to access the base computer systems, Battlemaster will attempt to locate a likely candidate on Vrilstar's map and plot the group's route; heading out as soon as all are ready.

"It's funny," he comments to the others pointing to the newly acquired tool belt at his waist, "but it never even occurred to me to add pockets to this armor.  Not sure a belt like this will stand up to sustained combat operations but I should probably come up with something for the next time.  I mean, I can't even carry my wallet right now; not that that comes up very often but still..."

Battlemaster notes that except for the generic tools on the tool belt, and the automatic pistol, none of the technicians is carrying anything that appears to be issued equipment. Rather than radios, they all have cell phones. They're not wearing the same color socks (T2 isn't wearing a matched pair at all) or the same brand and style of shoe.
As the cube arrives over the complex, Director X notes that there doesn't appear to be any sort of communication carrier wave in the vicinity. As they arrive, they are witness to the light atop the tower on the roof coming on (despite the roof having been in darkness for some time, but it would require some consideration to realize that). The two technicians at the tower base celebrate, briefly, before turning towards the doors.

OOC: between Battlemaster's armor and The Cube's sensors a full schematic of the complex is available, so I put said schematic in the Game Map.
