Re: Times Square has no turnbuckles
There is a small crowd of onlookers gathering around you, and still no sign of The Annihilator. The Molten Man's hyperbole escalates as he finds more people to talk at. He appears to be one of the mentally challenged hero wannabes that regularly receive Darwin Awards, however, he flew in and he's still slightly aflame.

Mr Spandex. Obviously you're an amateur at this. First of all, you announced your Secret Identity to everyone, meaning you likely have no stable of Enemies waiting to wipe you out. Secondly, your rhetoric sounds like something you cobbled together out of WWE Thrash Matches. I think you are more likely to endanger crowds than save them. So, you've had your 15 minutes in the spotlight. I think the suggestion of an alternate location is good. Perhaps you'd care to face the Annihilator in the Arizona Desert? Because I think you have no thought at all to the safety of all these people around you, sir the reporter accuses.

Director X takes a few moments to evaluate the effects of Darryl's approach, seeing how it plays out. There's no point in contradicting Darryl; even if he is being a lot less subtle than X would be, he's at least being blunt in the service of what X wants.

He decides to add a little extra push.

"Cities are pretty poor for camerawork, Molten Man. Modern directors can barely keep the camera on the action in a cityscape. If you want to be clearly visible, you need long sight lines."

"Yess! The long sight lines and open area suit The Molten Man! The cowardly Annihilator says he will come when one in costume is present, but he does not! The Molten Man will go to the worst place, for water is his enemy! You will see my greatness! Come, Annihilator, and bear witness to the glory that IS The Molten Man!"
"On Liberty Island I will wait! Face me, and we shall see who truly is the best there is!"

Flexing his legs, The Molten Man launches himself. Straight up he flies, the fiery trail behind him marking gloriously his leisurely turn to the west as he heads out. Just barely, over the crackling of the flames, one can hear a voice singing something about not starting the fire.

The Director smiles a little at Darryl Starre.

"Well, 'Molten Man' is quite enthusiastic about this confrontation. I'd put his odds at 'slim to none', but power and mental stability aren't always correlated."

He reaches into his jacket and removes a business card.

"Big fan of your work, Mr. Starre. Should you run into trouble that's less easily diverted than Molten Man was, call the number and ask for Agency X."

The business card appears to be for "Floral Emergencies", but there is indeed a number on it.

He turns to leave, and adds one last comment.

"Also... my apologies for the technical difficulties."

Well, if Mr Spandex does encounter the Annihilator, I hope he wears a red shirt quips the reporter. At least he'll be able to show the rest of us; how did that phrase go......, oh yes. He'll show us how the Monster works. He looks over the card, flips it to see the number, and asks Off the record, of course. Are you affiliated in any way with Bureau 13? You know, the FBI subdivision that deals with the supernatural and alien threats to this country's security?

Director X smiles. "Not exactly. They do good enough work from time to time, mind. Fine people. Agency X operates at a... higher level of discretion. I mightn't have stepped in, but Mr. Spandex seemed like a situation that needed immediate handling.

Well, him and the Annihilator. This situation is quite serious, however comical Mr. Spandex may seem..."

He snaps his fingers three times, and then points at Darryl.

"...I might just have something there. The Annihilator seems very self important. His ardor may be dampened if you can spin the press on this as being ridiculous. Warrior-types have codes of honour, which is to say they don't like being made fun of. Crucial psychological vulnerability. Even if it doesn't defuse the situation, it may goad him into making a mistake."

Tell me something. Does Agency X have its own supers, or does it utilize advanced technology? Or both? As for your idea, it has some merit. I'd love to speak to any staff psychologist you might have available. From intonations and the one appearance, they might be able to come up with a profile of this guy, And an idea how to best attack his ego Darryl notes.

Re: Times Square has no turnbuckles
Suddenly~ a bluish glowing cloud forms about 20'ft feet from the two men as they talk.. it resolves itself in the air as a circular disk of cerulean energy with a cloud of blue mist around its edges perfectly perpendicular to the ground.

With a humming sound.. the Vril Gate 'blinks' open and Vrilstar floats through before the disk dissipates.  The young white haired man is dressed in a simple if somewhat archaic blue tunic with an oddly ornate golden fringe of geometric shapes and symbols, cinched at his waist with a sash, black leggings and sandal-like slippers laced up his calves at his feet.  A high collared cloak of red cloth again fringed with a golden boarder of ornate geometric shapes and symbols is clasped at his neck and wrists rustles animatedly even though there is no actual breeze felt by those present.  In his hand is a short rod-like staff of some silvery material with a knurled end and odd key like controls and crystals along half its length.  Floating near the young man is a glowing blueish faceted crystal that follows him closely in flight on its own orbiting him with varying speeds.

Landing he walks over to Darryl Starre with a congenial smile extending a hand in greeting, "Good to see you again Mr. Starre, good job well handling that situation!  Sorry it took me several teleports to get here without drawing Molten moron's attention.  I was watching your telecast on the channel 13... as I figured YOU had the situation Well in hand.  But I wanted you to know ... I was aware of the situation and ready to back you up as needed.. if the 'Molten Moron' could not be talked down!  I felt my presence would have just exacerbated the already tense situation and threatened a fight.. or worse an appearance by this... Annihilator miscreant."

Glancing over at the man in the suit, "Who is your... associate, Mr. Starre, and what... 'Agency'  of the government does he represent?"

Director X opens his mouth to begin an answer, when suddenly VRILSTAR appears.

After an initial moment of surprise and wariness, he looks glad to see the superhero. "Ah, wonderful. Someone with superior mental equilibrium to the Molten Man... and likely The Annihilator, at that...

...speaking of whom, do you intend to confront The Annihilator? If so, I suspect you'd benefit greatly from our assistance and analysis."

He looks back at Darryl. "For the record, no, I can't call in parahuman resources."

In reply to Director X (msg # 90):

The young man cocks his head slightly, "Confront Annihilator?!?  Goodness, gracious, whatever for?  He is an interstellar thug, I'm a scholar of the mystic arts not a warrior.. nor would it do any good; he'd just make some other excuse to fight some one else here on earth putting innocent lives again at risk! I have nothing to prove... and common brawling for 'whose biggest on the playground', I was done with at age 9!  No.. I'm going to seek out the Firewing to see if these two can settle their brawling somewhere far away from humanity.  We have enough meta-human criminals smashing things up on our world we don't need aliens to add to the chaos for us!"

Not a bad plan, Vrilstar says Starre. Do you need an envoy for that? the reporter asks. I'm told that I can be a convincing voice during negotiations he suggests.

Vrilstar nods, "Yes, of course Mr. Starre; I could use your investigative skills as well... tracking down the Firewing will be no easy task.  Hopefully he has not left planet... Tracking him down in space would be ...very time consuming and require me preparing some...'enchantments' to bring others with me."

"...my opinion of your mental capabilities grows by leaps and bounds. Pointing that loose cannon at this problem is a good plan. If there are any assets I can requisition to assist in this search, they're yours... although rustling up a spaceship might be a little tricky."

His expression goes a little vacant as he ponders something. "...for the near future."

In reply to Director X (msg # 94):

Vrilstar chuckles slightly, "Thank you.. Director X, you flatter me... I'm just concerned about keeping the threat to innocent life to a minimum.  As for space travel.. I have the means to travel personally many times the speed of light.. but I'd need to make some special preparations to travel fast enough to be of use to our investigation or carry others with me.  Not impossible... but it would take preparation.  Complicated by the matter that I've only traveled to as far as Pluto and not left our star-system as yet.. I'm not entirely familiar with the cultures, extra-terrestrial of earth... it would be a tedious search having to rely on my telepathic abilities to communicate and get an understanding of the surrounding interstellar community of Earth to make a fruitful search for the Firewing if he has indeed left earth."

"But indeed any mundane or technical assistance your agency could provide would be much appreciated!"

Director X nods.

"I'll see what information I can requisition on his whereabouts. Mr. Starre, if saving the world interests you at all, I'd suggest you do the same - it's often surprising what stories are floating around the newsrooms of the world.

With any luck, Firewing hasn't gone away and stopped being a problem for us."

He chuckles, extracts his phone, and pushes a button. "...said absolutely no one ever, until now."

He prepares to leave to go find out the aforementioned information; for one thing, a plain black unmarked car drives up, and he looks at it with intent.

As the present meta-humans and agents discussed how best to deal with the Molten Man.. ICON received a ping that suddenly cut-off from a detection ward Johnathan had placed weeks back at the old hideout of Minions of the World Threatening Doctor Apocalypse... just to be sure that if the building was ever reoccupied by him or his minion.. he would get some warning of renewed activities there.

OOC: Basically a Simple use of Vrilstar's - Create Vril Artifacts-"Enchantment" to make a ward about the building if it was entered or any anomalous Electromagnetic energy source was detected within the building.

ICON ceased its slow orbit about Vrilstar's body to come to a rest at eye level and glow brightly for a moment arresting Johnathan's attention.

Speaking in its emotionless slightly british accent [ "Master Johanthan, it appears your detection ward at the Zerstoiten Harmonics building has been triggered by something and gone suddenly silent... but the ward has not been dispelled." ]

Vrilstar was listening to the other declare the resources they would be tapping to seek the whereabouts of the other alien gladiator on earth the infamous Firewing... when ICON signaled for attention...

Vrilstar listened to his companion and got a uneasy look on his face, "...well THAT can't be good!"

Turning to his new acquaintances he speaks, "Forgive me... something has just occurred that I it would be... prudent I investigate."

He produced a ... of all things a business card, Johnathen ‘Nate’ Richardson - Mystic Investigator "Wizard", with an address and a phone number.

"Once you have what info you can gather you can contact me."

With that he flourished his Vril Rod which favored some silverly elaborate 4 foot long "flute" decorated with poly-chromatic glowing crystals and a Bluish light suffused his form and the floating fasceted crystal that orbited him and he vanished in a burst of light.

OOC: Teleport "Vril Path"  with Aid-Teleport from Vril Rod-VPP for added range

Re: Times Square has no turnbuckles
Vrilstar and ICON vanish in a mind-bending display of non-causal action... you know, like magic.
In a more mundane fashion (except for the lack of driver), Director X and Darryl Starre also zoom away.
Some three point one minutes later, a strangely shaped airship with no visible means of propulsion appears above the street. Annihilator leaps to the sidewalk and yells, "Now we shall test your mettle!"
He looks around, puzzled, and finally climbs back aboard his ship while mumbling in a language that defies all scholarly interpretation. The airship then fades out as inexplicably as it faded in.
Whether The Molten Man takes a fly over afterwards is too much to consider.

When Darryl's language shifts, the Director looks thoughtful, but doesn't respond. Almost lost in thought. He shakes his head. "No, sorry... can't recall what that translates to. Not these days, anyway."

He sighs. "In  any event, we should be there soon."

Just as Director X is mentioning they will soon arrive, there is a glow in the sky above what appears to be their destination. Not long after, the vehicle turns a corner and discreetly parks at a small distance from a flying guy with a bluish lense, both floating in midair above a lot that alternates between being empty with variegated vegetation and glimpses of buildings having architectural styles from the mundane to the bizarre.
