Italy, which means (currently) GMT+2. I tend to post between 1700 and 2100, and sometimes between 1100 and 1200 GMT.

Re: Green Room (OOC)

It's alive!
Myself, I'm from Norway (GMT +1) and currently on vacation. I post like...whenever. I sleep at the weirdest times nowadays. Today I went to bed around, was it 6 AM? Yup. Gonna be fun gaming with you.

Remember: Don't hate the player, hate the PC :) I might pull off quite a lot weird shit during the course of the game.

This might go in PM, but applies to all players so:

Are we going to post our complete character info under "Character details"? Including backgrounds and everything else people don't know?

Re: Green Room (OOC)

Here! Like Johnny, I'm from Scandinavia (Stockholm, Sweden), and also online at the weirdest hours. Midnight sun and all that, you know. ;-)

As for my character details: I'll be posting the fundamentals to start with, the stuff my PC would tell anybody she's just met. You can expect this to be done by Friday. As the game progresses, I'll update with any additional info that might seem pertinent. Unless Compton promts me otherwise, that is.

Happy gaming!

Re: Green Room (OOC)

Ha! fooled you! I am in the States, Virginia to be precise. I am currently on vacation, but will be back at home Monday. I will be more regularly posting in the evening, +4 GMT myself. As for character details, I think I would post only what you would want a stranger to know about you when you first meet them. Additional details can be added later. I will be opening the game thread Monday or Tuesday evening. I would like your first post to be like I described in the Production Notes, what you were doing when the portal grabbed you. PM me with any items you have with you. Still waiting on two more to raise their hands.

Re: Green Room (OOC)

Whoa, I'm actually up...
Yeah, you fooled me then, but I think you've posted at times equivialent to 5AM or something, well well.

Character details should then contain a brief physical description. No character sheets or anything.

Midnight sun my ass. When you get midnight sun, I will set loose polar bears in Oslo. :)

Re: Green Room (OOC)

I’m on the east coast of the U.S. I usually post randomly during the day. Not so much in the evenings or on weekends. I can usually check in to read posts on the weekends but, writing a response takes more time and concentration than weekends usually provide for me. Really looking forward to gaming with all of you!

Re: Green Room (OOC)

I'm here. Just not sure where "here" is at the moment. I'm sure it'll come to me soon. All i remember is waking up and there was a nurse taking care of me. Just as soon as the voices leave my head, i'll post some PC details.

baci!

Re: Green Room (OOC)

That leaves us with 6 players and a Director...not shabby. And, yeah, Iain are short. Took me a while to notice.

Another thing that is worth - if not discussion, at least - explanation. Player power, or namely, how much we can "decide" in our posts. As for the first, you gave us more or less complete authority to decide what happened, which is no problem when we are in each our corner of the world, but it is going to get more hairy.

Re: Green Room (OOC)

Actually, I do play with characters' names, but in this case the "are short" is mostly a coincidence (Iain does not sound like a plural): the pun in his name is based on being an IRS vampire :P

Re: Green Room (OOC)

Don't worry Johnny, best I can guess is they'll both suck the life out of you :) but that's just me.

But on a topic of ingame posts, just incase there's any question: Yes, Raven posted for both of us.

Re: Green Room (OOC)

Yep, that was a collaborative post written by both of us through the exchange of several PMs.

Vampires also have that whole relationship with death, and there’s that old saying - Nothing is certain but death and taxes.

I also like, “Death and taxes and childbirth! There's never any convenient time for any of them!” - Margaret Mitchell

Re: Green Room (OOC)

Hmm... Death and Taxes... sounds much less obscure since I was thinking of the FarSide Comic where a detective on a a small island is looking at a dead body saying "Looks like someone has drained the blood of out the victim!"
Standing behind him is a 6' misquito, a vampire, a laywer and a tax collector.

Re: Green Room (OOC)

You do work well together :)

Yep, those were the two reasons behind the IRS vampire pun: they both want your blood and they both represent the only certain things in life.

And, for non-usians, of the many possible acronyms IRS may refer to, I'm clearly talking about http://www.irs.gov/

Re: Green Room (OOC)

You know, looking at this again... and I know it's almost expost facto but Iain R. almost looks like "Eyein' Our" so all you need is a Noun that starts with "S" and you have even more levels to the function of your name :)

Re: Green Room (OOC)

Well, at least I learned some latin today. It would have been much easier, had you typed it in two words :)

http://www.law.cornell.edu/lexicon/ex_post_facto.htm

I originally considered the name Johnny B. Good...as in the semi-popular song. Lots of weird names going around here, yes :)

Re: Green Room (OOC)

Sorry about that.

First my spelling in Latin is not much better than my English. When I have time I like to make all my posts in Word for spell checking, but since work actually has me busy today I try to make my post time as short as possible. Second, I've been using the term Ex Post Facto for soo long that I forget it's not native to the English language. My dad had been a Federal District Judge and Trial Lawer for a combined 20 years by the time I was entering Highschool. I wonder if that has anything to do with my favorite super hero being Daredevil (and don't get me started on that Beniffer movie).

Re: Green Room (OOC)

I just wanted to say that I am Very pleased with the in game posts so far! Wow! What a great creative group you are. I wanted to let you have an opportunity to “tell a story”.

How you are entering the game is very interesting. These first posts will be different from the rest of the game since none of you were interacting with each other, except for Dren and Raven. All of you had given me a general idea as to how you would be entering the portal and I approved that, along with the items you will be caring.  I will be giving more of a specific scene for you to react to and interact with as soon as you all have posted your entrances.

As for how much freedom players have when writing their posts, never assume another player’s reaction or response to anything you say or do. You can suggest they follow you, but it will be up to that player if they actually do or not. Unless you “work it out” with that player through PM’s. Don’t assume success unless you have been told you will succeed or your dice roll says that you will succeed. Say that you are attempting to swing on the rope over the River of Lava, not that you did swing across the river. Give me an opportunity to interact as well. I will not be completely anal on this point. You do not have to write that you attempt to drink a glass of water, unless the glass is being guarded by a huge troll at the time. :-)

As for combat, I will be posting how I will be conducting combat sequences in the Production Notes thread this weekend, if time permits. I am always open for suggestions on how to make the game run smoothly. I want this to be fun for all.

Keep up the great work!

Re: Green Room (OOC)

Myself, I am more in favour of semi-free form than dice-fests. This coming from a D&D player might sound weird, but really, storyline is extremely important, and when playing by forum, dice can make the game a bit choppy. I am of the impression that we are going for a middle-thing, which is ideal in my opinion.

Concerning my post, I was actually getting worried about it getting veeery long when I wrote it (everything looks much bigger in this small message-box). However, I see I was wrong. I love what I've seen this far from you guys. Dren and Raven's post was somewhat exciting.

Re: Green Room (OOC)

I tend to prefer some use of dice, at least when the rule set is written to support roleplay - as opposed to *roll*play - and is not heavy on dice rolling...

I think Unisystem Lite takes the best of the two worlds: plain dice rolling for when a random element may add to the game, DP's for when you really need the events to take a certain turn...

Re: Green Room (OOC)

Well, I hope you keep a copy of your posts, 'cause it looks like the old ones have just been backupped to /dev/null...

I don't think many of you are going to post anytime soon, for DNS propagation is going to take a while (I overrode my DNS to be able to post, when I realized that the old server was down for good, but I don't expect anyone who doesn't sysadmin for a living to be able to do the same).

When you finally get here, consider that someone else's DNS may still be lagging; typical propagation time for a DNS change is 24 hours or so.

You may also notice that your old links do not work anymore: the rpol/ part of the path has been removed, so you will need to bookmark all rpol URLs again,

Re: Green Room (OOC)

Eek! Server crashed and we lost some posts in the green room, but only one in the main game thread. Pieran, can you please repost your initial post. I have made a copy of the game as of now and will be making copies from time to time. Please keep a copy of your larger posts on your systems for at least a few days and we should not lose any data.

Hopfully we can keep the computer bugs at bay.  :-)
