Your heal is already pretty good.

You might want Dodge or Block to help avoid being hit.  Common Bond allows you to share Bennies.

What about a customized version of McGyver, where you can cobble together improvised healing materials more easily?

Other ideas: Medic (if don't already have it), Steady Hands (customized for surgery), Healer (if you don't already have it), or a customized edge like Feyic Touch or something that makes sense.

For healing, there's a -2 to your roll if you have no supplies.  Instead of using those in the Gnomish kit, you could use some of your others to avoid the -2, yes or you could save those and use the Gnomish kit, it's a wash really.

Previous rolls were to stabalize.  Maintaining him and helping him in the healing progress (continued care) will require intermittant repeat rolls.  Right now your hope might be to get him conscious.

Uthor, Magnis and Autognome are in the trail beside the sheepfirepath.

Hom, James and Alveris are in the tower.

I'm letting Conrad/Aaron play for Hom so that he has something to do while he waits.

Magnis/Autognome should be controlled by Uthor/Chris

Re: OOC Discussion: part 2 electric bugaloo

The SW rulebook allows someone who is prone to rise immediately when an enemy moves adjacent to them.  When I run games, however, I don't use that rule because it sucks.  So it's at Jon's discretion really.

(I houserule it such that standing requires 2 movement points, does not provoke attacks of opportunity.  You do actually get a bonus to attack prone enemies in the real rules, but that almost never comes up due to the dumb standing up rule.)

RedCaps have the Great Speed edge which gives them 2 cards and thus 2 turns/round.

Also they ARE dicks.

And yes, 5 is enough to hit at that range.

Re: OOC Discussion: part 2 electric bugaloo

In reply to GM (msg # 71):

With respect to the AIM action.

Normally, you must designate a specific target that you can see.  The rules for aiming specify that the +2 is no good against any other target.  This means that aiming at a closed door really doesn't work under normal rules.

However, since it's a small door and there isn't much room to maneuver, I'll let you do it in this particular situation.

From now on though, aiming requires a specific target, it's not meant to be a universal "Overwatch".

Re: OOC Discussion: part 2 electric bugaloo

In reply to James (msg # 77):

@Conrad, you can shoot at the shapes charging you now.

Shooting attacks don't involve parry, just difficulty modified by distance, cover, size, etc.  Shooting a door would be base difficulty, with possible mods for size.

Shooting someone THROUGH a door would basically treat the door as armor and add toughness to them and would also make it hard for you to hit them, since you're shooting at something you cannot see.

@James opportunities addressed in post.  The poison has no effect if it doesn't go through the fuzzy fuzzy hide.

Jon,

Before we embark on this course of action to reunite the party, I did have one final thought.

Being that Alveris is actually an incredibly knowledgeable person in Fey rituals/procedures/court functionality, would a roll of that sort perhaps provide him useful information he could use to out con the dark pixie out of his flock? Or at least to gain favor/information?

In reply to Alveris Alderis (msg # 87):

Possibly.

Brownies are not part of the court and thus not (overall) bound to the Fey in any particular way.  They are social but territorial and will often enter contracts for control of land.  This is the most common interaction between Brownies and the Court, negotiating exclusive use of land, normally to harass and help/hinder the humans there.

Brownies are fascinated with magic and with humans, often experimenting with both.  Unlike RedCaps, they are not particularly violent, but they DO enjoy a good laugh at the misfortune of others.

They are very commonly 'scouts' for the Fey Court in that they report whatever happens in their lands in exchange for control of it.  They are also good at finding and "retrieving" things for the Fey when appropriate.

I was going to take the shield for myself, but meh... it takes two hands to operate, and those are my axin' hands. I'm hoping that there's a penalty involved in using the DPAG with just one person, and they they are counting on targets not knowing that. We weren't able to use it without a loader earlier because "it would jam".

Plus the autognome is pretty close to the gunner. He might be able to obstruct the line of fire somewhat.

Regardless, this is definitely the only thing Conrad could have done. If he dies... well, I played him properly 'til the end :)

Mirewood is wearing a heavy jerkin of what looks to be boiled leather, but it's hard to tell.  It is reinforced at the shoulders/neck/hips with steel.

All you can see of the speaking apparatus is a speaker in the center of his upper chest.  It is circular with vertical grills and appears to be made of brass.  Likely it has some component with either a pick-up or an internal portion that feeds from his voicebox, but if it does that is concealed by his armor and clothing.

The AutoGnomes and Goblins have no rank.

The six shock troops do have rank, they are all either Pvt. or Lt. 2nd class.

What would be the hypothetical repercussions of forcing the Red Spring to do a barrel roll? I've done some reading on it and it seems subs might be able to do this, but it's not advised because you risk trashing your turbines, damaging batteries, and harming your crew.

But we don't have batteries, right? We just have a pressure-locked reactor and a lot of steam in nice, tight valve systems. If it would just shake the crew up and throw pots and pans and tools everywhere... might be worth it.

Or do I need to make a Boating roll to figure out whether or not such a maneuver would total the Spring?

Well NOW you've done it...

Everybody gets an AGI check to see if you go for a tumble.  Difficulty 5, +1 to your roll if you were already braced (that's Uthor and Doro).

Conrad, since you knew this was coming you will make the same roll, but not to go tumbling.  Rather, your roll will be to make use of the shift to move into a good combat position.

You may not get a surprise round because, although you DID surprise them, they were basically standing with guns at your back waiting for you to do something stupid.  Depending on how you and they react to the lurch, you'll get initiative or not.

I just couldn't justify giving it away in-character. I know I was supposed to give up the helmet and then get yelled at for it, maybe banished or demoted or something. But... Conrad's a good soldier. If Olek didn't see fit to give up the helmet, that's not Conrad's place.

And if Olek didn't make that call, Conrad lacks the capacity to realize that.

Ah well... here's hoping for good agility rolls. For us, not them.

To make things easier (for everyone but mostly me) I've broken the three combats into three threads.  This way each can move at its own pace and you don't need to read shit that doesn't pertain to you.  Being biggest, the hallway battle is in the main thread.

If, by some chance, you move from one combat to another, we'll need to wait for rounds to synchronize.  Otherwise have at it!

Can someone please check my math?

Attack vs Mirewood would gain:

quote:
+2 because he's unarmed
+2 for wild attack
+1 for Trademark Weapon
+? for charging (?)

If I activate Overdrive, I also gain:

quote:
Next attack deals STR+d8 damage, ignores armor, and counts as an attack against every target in range

So worst-case it looks like I'd be looking at:

quote:
Attack Roll: d10 + 5, d6 + 5 (ignores armor)
Damage Roll: d12 + d8 + ? (does wild attack add damage?)

His armor is 7 (2), which means if I'm piercing armor it's only 5. My maximum roll to hit is 15, my minimum to hit is 6 (barring a critical miss).

TL;DR: Am I correct in my assumption that I cannot miss?

Reread some of my edges and the rules today. Alveris is way more dangerous than I thought he was.

He can use persuasion to perform test of wills vs smarts, and he gets a +2 when he rolls it (d8).

And if I hit, it's +2 next action, and I'm assuming it can hit with raise for "some" other beneficial effect.

That's huge for Alveris.

In addition, I'd been penalizing myself on rolls for using my off hand to throw. I have 2 edges that allow me to do so without the multi action penalty, and with only a -2 for the off hand penalty. I'd been misrolling that as well.

I still don't do any damage, so I'll just be throwing and rolling for headshots.

But at least I have a plan for how to be effective in a fight.

Upgrade!

Re: OOC Discussion: part 2 electric bugaloo

Succeeding on a Test of Wills with a raise shakes the target (but can't wound them if they're already shaken).  A good tactic, when you have the +2 feat like you do, is to do the multi-action thing, using a Test of Wills (at -2, cancelling out your penalty) and ideally shaking the target.  You're likely to at least succeed, cancelling out the -2 on your attack.  Best case, you shake them and follow up with an attack likely to wound.

Choose a target and which skill you will use Taunt or Intimidate.

Taunt is opposed by Smarts, Intimidate is opposed by Spirit.

If you beat the enemy roll, you get +2 on next action vs that target.  If you beat with a raise, the enemy is Shaken.

It's possible, but unlikely that you survive 30 dmg.  You could multi-explode your vigor roll.

Also, I'm not getting how you acted out of order.  Doro went first, then the enemies aimed and such, and then you did a multi-action round including a test of wills and an attack roll, yes?

In reply to Uthor son of Magnusson (msg # 267):

If the attack and test of wills was all one multi-action, then yes it would have gone off before the sub bucked.

If the attack was at the same time as the agility check, then it's not a multi-action.

Also, you can soak part of damage and reduce the effects, there's only a chance of death at the 4th wound, which as Conrad has shown, is very survivable.

I'm with Chris, and still don't understand. If I lose an action for not passing the agi check, isn't performing it inherently an action, and aren't I allowed to multi-action to my heart's content at increasing -2's?

Especially with the violence of my success on the agi check, I'm really struggling to understand.

In reply to Alveris Alderis (msg # 270):

The agility check was between rounds.  The equivalent in, say D&D would be a reflex save.  If you do well on the reflex save vs. a burst attack.

You don't lose an action for failing the agility check, you fall to the deck.

If you choose on your next action to climb to your feet, that's your turn.  If you choose to crawl to cover, cast a spell, or do something else you can do from prone, that's your choice.

The violence of your success could certainly justify being able to use the rocking of the ship to your advantage to tumble to a better vantage point or something like that, but not to get a free action.

In reply to GM (msg # 271):

So:

Shotgun damage 30 vs Toughness 6 is a difference of 24 or Shaken and 5 wounds.

However, if you are hit with a 4th wound, all extra damage is ignored.

Soak roll of 11 is a success with a raise, reducing wounds by 2.

Therefore, you take only 2 wounds, then violently execute the Gnome who shot you.

Still not quite getting it, though it's a moot point now.

If anything, Alveris should have rolled the agility check after throwing the daggers, rather than before.  All of that stuff should have happened on his first initiative count, yeah?

There are no living Operatives or Agents.

The Storm Troopers are standing in a rough cluster with you on one side (closer to the helm) and Alveris on the other side (closer the engine room and Uthor).

Between James and the Helm is the AutoGnome.

All Storm Troopers are armed with shield and shotgun.

If the shield takes damage enough to break it, the 'extra damage' does not splash onto you.

They have toughness of 8. You can hit them if you beat their parry (melee) or roll higher than a 4 (ranged), unless they are behind their shields, which muck with the numbers a bit.

I managed to hit them all several times. The damage, though, has to hit 8 or higher to actually HURT them unless you pierce armor.

It does and it doesn't.

They're in a rough cluster in a narrow hallway with shields pointed outward either toward Alveris/Doro/Uthor/Gnome or toward James/Conrad/AutoGnomes.

You can't really shoot over a shielded Gnome to hit the back of the guy behind him, nor can you run around the shields to get into melee so effectively you're all shooting at shields.

In reply to Alveris Alderis (msg # 295):

No, wounds do not affect damage.

You are throwing a dagger, so the enemy's parry score does not factor into it.

For all ranged attacks the difficulty to hit is 4, modified by relevant factors such as range, darkness, size and cover.

Base difficulty to hit with ranged attack = 4.

The Storm Trooper is at short range (+1 to hit) so difficulty 5.

The Storm Trooper is 1 size smaller than Alveris (-1 to hit) so difficulty 4.

The Storm Trooper has a shield (-2 to hit) so difficulty 6.

Therefore, a 7 hits.

I can write Alveris off into a tantric sunset, we can talk reroll of some of his more useless points, a new character, or he can just stay as is and continue to toss his lot with the survivable gnomes.

I just want to know where your head is..

Ha, sure.  A few of you have asked, here's where I am:

This is the sunset of this "Chapter" of the story (by which I mean this mission was a chapter in a much bigger story).

Right now we're tying up loose ends and deciding what to do before returning to friendly seas/Gnomish Empire/Fey Court.

At that point we'll have a little break.  The next chapter is in the planning stages, but not quite ready for rollout.  Anyone who wants to participate in that is welcome to do so, with your same character or with a re-roll.  Your choice.  We may also have some new players joining in.

I'm also working on some very different unrelated campaigns to run, but haven't decided which will happen next/first.

In all fairness, Alveris's entire backstory was being sent here to procure that treaty and bring it back to continue your oppression.

We all had an angle.

I feel bad for Jon. We all had information that was meant to be secret, and some that wasn't, and we all chose to not pass a lot of it on.

Jon gave me an entire backstory for Doro that I chose not to share (because why would Alveris?), and I deliberately made NO attempt to learn ANYTHING about the helmet (because why would Alveris?).

So Doro is called "the knot" within the Fey court. Ostensibly, he/she (it's ambiguous to me) is at the center of a highly complex and arbitrary system of political alliances and marriages that establish the ties that bind and the general hierarchy of the Fey court.

When Doro went missing, there was upheaval as to whether those ties still held or didn't hold. I gather Doro's been gone a while.

Finding out Doro was alive (or dead), or even his/her return, would significantly shake up the current dynamics of power in the Fey Court. Basically, they've come to a status quo in the ambiguity.

I can totally see Alveris landing in port, taking Doro and Jamie, conning his way onto another ship, and just living out his days in a sea of STDs and gluttony.

I think Alveris is closest set up as a distraction/sniper.  Damage is low but you can easily crit or hit unarmored spots and with high wills/trick-type stats you can throw people off or prep them to be killed by your allies.

But, sure, y'all can level up!

For the shorter term, I'm gearing up gradually for a different campaign using the ORE engine.

My elevator pitch is: Godlike meets Game of Thrones.

If you like J.R.R. Martin's setting but prefer the tone of Godlike, that's what I'll be going for.
