-Hank as a Gadget Guy came about in the Avengers West Coast days, as the writers kind of gave him a background de-push. Not wanting to use him as Giant-Man anymore, he became a Gadget-user who had a bunk of shrunken-down stuff that could do almost anything. This proved popular with some fans, but since this is COMICS, the very next writer who came along no doubt went "but hey- isn't Hank a Giant guy?" and immediately changed him back, re-writing the old "Heart Attacks When He Shrinks" Side-Effect and fixing it somehow. Mark Gruenwald once referred to stuff like this as being part of what makes comics too complicated, and how we should kill off overly-complex guys like that. We can only dream...

-He's mostly typified by having less powers (he can still Shrink, but it might give him a heart attack- a Side-Effect), and can throw Variable Power out there. He's a lower PL, but still quite expensive thanks to the... expensiveness, of Variable Power.

Ian Wilder, a young recruit for the Symkarian Border Patrol was kidnapped near the Latverian border. He was experimented on, mainly psionically, and became an induced mutant. Escaping and returning to his post, he was intercepted by Special Operations Supervisor Benson Cunningwood. This supervisor warned Ian that if he returned to the SBP, that he would be in danger for his life and may be the victim of further experimentation. Instead, Cunningwood managed to smuggle Ian to Los Angeles, California where Ian gained work as a security guard instead. Going to a costume shop in Hollywood, Ian was able to piece together his costume as Psion.. He has been attempting to use his powers to do the right thing ever since.

Backstory -

Personality - Ian is an easy going guy who likes to have fun and is usually up for a little adventure. He likes to stay positive and help the others around him achieve the same mindset. When he thinks things are important, he can turn seriously quickly, and at times might begin to over think things.

Motivation - Acceptance. Ian was a good and dedicated border agent. Protecting his homeland against their Latverian enemies was a noble cause. Now, his life has been ripped away by those who hold no value of human life and freedom. Now, Ian must find acceptance among the forces of good in America or forever be haunted by doubt.

Complication - Rivalry. Not only does Ian hold rivalry against anyone of Latverian nationality, but also those who he perceives to cling to such tyrannical values. This means anyone who dares to take up the role of supervillain. It is not enough to bring such villains to justice, Ian must crush their dreams of power with each defeat acting as a deterrent against anyone else taking on such undertakings.

Prologue - We know why Ian became a superhero, but what was the impetus that even began his journey with the Symkarian Border Patrol? Why did he choose a life of service?

Child soldiers. It seemed that Latveria would stop at nothing when it came to its enemy Symkaria. This included using psychotronic implants to create an army of child soldiers. These children were indoctrinated into thinking that they were freedom fighters against the great evil Symkarian regime. These rebels were smuggled across the border from Latveria into Symkaria to act as terrorist cells.

Ian felt the only way to help these children was to enlist in the Symkarian Border Patrol. Perhaps those who could be captured could be freed from their mind control devices and reintegrated back into normal society. Others could be stopped before they could endanger more innocent lives. And by keeping watch on the borders, perhaps more children could be protected from ever being victimized in the first place.

2) Your life before the Blip.

Like many young people, Max Teller decided that his key to fame and fortune was to become an influencer on the internet. It was a pretty simple plan. Find products to review, post a charming video with details, provide an affiliate link, maybe even create your own E-commerce drop shipping store, rake in the digital cash. Maybe even woo a few E-girls into a date or two.

Understanding technology always came easy to Max, so he decided to go that route. With everybody clamoring for the next smart phone, or watch, or goodie gadget, it was a lucrative market. Especially when innovators like Stark came on the scene with consumer electronics. Bo-nanza! But shortly after beginning, Max received a package with a bit of technology that he did not order. It was so advanced, it looked alien in origin. Accidentally triggering the device, Max was enveloped in a strange energy. Then things really got interesting.


3) Your life a year into the Blip.

Ok, so there were some training wheels issues. Maybe still are in some cases. But these are genuine freaking superpowers we are talking about here. So life got really good, really quick. Then half the population of the planet disappeared. It was utter chaos. Max spent all the time he could helping others. In costume and out of costume. There always seemed to be somebody who could use a little help, and with most of the heavy gun heroes missing, some people needed a lot of help. So Max did what he could, and thankfully, a group of like minded individuals with special abilities of their own asked Max to join them.


4) Do you want to be a contracted member of Excalibur, someone who was intentionally scouted and enlisted, or would you prefer to be just some powered person who stumbles into the same inciting incident at game start and joins up with them. This game will feature Excalibur's first mission so you don't need lots of history.


I like the idea of having already been recruited by Excalibur, but I am flexible.

It was just the last time someone wanted his services, they tried to bribe him with an onion sandwich. A [i]dried[i] onion sandwich.

Oh, were those grapes? They would pair well with the white cheese and maybe some of the darker bread. Where there any stuffed mushrooms around? You could always tell a good spread by the presence of stuffed mushrooms. Glom was busy joying himself when it seemed some others were trying to rush him from the table with some empty platitudes. ”Faint greetings, meat bags. May you not be surprised in battle.”[B] Glom grumbled as he ambled over to where his eyes had discovered some marinated plumbs. It was upon his second scoop foul that he realized that the greetings were sincere and that the host was introducing himself.

It t combines two basic concepts to a next level archetype. Ease of travel as well as a sort of stealthy character.
2-b) What is the concept? What details are important to get right? What details are flexible? What world details are important? What buy in do you need from other players to sell your concept?

Sort of an anywhere, anytime ninja. The nearly supernatural stealth. Concept can vary based on team needs. Can use telekinesis or mental attacks. World details are flexible. I just need the other players to think this would be a cool teammate to have along.

Reputation: Due to his origin as a creation of Ultron and past incidents where he has spiraled into psychosis, the Vision is sometimes distrusted by authorities and the general public.

This is a pretty barebones Cable; no way to accommodate including Graymalkin or as broad an array of skills and advantages as Nate should probably have. It hits the high points, he just won't be as omnicompetent as he's often appeared to be.

Hero concept: Intangible teleporter.

Personality: On mission, Ian likes to play it mysterious. Other than that, he is a friendly, happy-go-lucky, mellow type.

Appearance: Ian stands 5 ft 10 in and weighs in about 190 pounds. He has platinum blond hair and ice blue eyes. He dresses in jeans and T-shirts when not on mission. In costume, he wears a spooky white ensemble.

Motivation: Do gooder. Troubleseeker.

Nite Hawk - Familiar with taking up the mantle of a former hero, Nite Hawk reached out to the new Dr. X when he came on the scene.  Taking on the legacy of the Bronze Age hero, the new Dr. X proved to be a good one to follow in his footsteps, especially with Nite Hawk’s mentorship as well.

Caleb Gale, the former Dr. X - After becoming disabled from an injury, Caleb Gale retired. That is until he discovered a new young vigilante with similar powers. Caleb convinced the youngster to take up the identity and offers his expertise on matters.

Elongo the Indomitable - An elastic ape man who considers himself the nemesis of Dr. X.

Ian gained his powers while in his first year of college. Keeping them a secret from everyone, he tried to figure them out. A few run ins with costumed villains made him decide to go the vigilante route. It wasn’t too long before Caleb Gale found Ian and took him under his wing. Now, Dr. X rides again.[/FIELDSET]

Ian couldn’t believe that he was in the running to be a member of the Defenders of the Globe. With both the former Dr. X and Nite Hawk putting in a good word for him, there was a chance he just might make it. It made sense in a way. Most of the others were considered powerhouses whether it was physically, due to energy powers, or otherwise, but guys who were intangible, and thus practically indestructible were still pretty rare. Ian had been able to tangle up villains a little above his level by going all ghostly on them. Just call him the Artful Dodger. On second thought, better not. Plus Ian could teleport himself and other team mates in the blink of an eye. That had to come n handy, right?

Still, the new Dr. X was still just that, new to the whole hero scene. Oh, he had been playing the vigilante long enough, but now we were talking about being a member of a team. And not just any team. The premiere superhero team on the planet. No pressure, right? Well, Ian would just have to wow them at try outs. And if a certain funky monkey and his rubberband body decided to crash the party, Dr. X could really show them his stuff.
