Re: Overgrown Mage Tower
OOC: 14 is exactly what u needed to hit! The Naga takes 11 hp damage.

The Ray of Frost crackles over the creatures emerald skin. It yells with a bell like sound, and it scans the room quickly for a path to flee. Seeing none, it extends long fangs from its golden mouth and snaps at Elohir.

OOC: it rolls 25 (17 on the die) hitting vs AC.
Elohir takes 12 hp damage and 10 ongoing poison damage. (Taken at the end of his next turn, right before he Saves)

The Naga's fangs pierce Elohir's flesh, injecting lethal poison.

The two remaining zombies continue to mindlessly claw at Aymery. One drags his sword down, and the other grips his arm with steel-like bone claws. The zombies hand snaps off at the wrist, leaving the claw gripping Aymery's arm.

OOC:  one zombie misses, but one gets a natural 20, doing 6 damage + 3 for bone splinters. (Which the zombie also takes!)
Aymery takes a total of 9 hp damage.
Laas, Aymery, Elohir are up!

OOC: 18:17, Today: Laas Yah-Nir rolled 4 using 1d6. Elven Grace Racial. No extra action.

I move back to Aymery and swing out wildly at the zombies, hoping to free our warrior from their menace that he might finish the naga for good.
OOC: 18:20, Today: Laas Yah-Nir rolled 19 using 1d20+5. Melee Attack vs. Zombies. STR+Level+Escalation(2)=5
18:22, Today: Laas Yah-Nir rolled 5 using 1d8+2. Melee Damage.

Frustrated and bleeding, Aymery slashes with his blade at one zombie, then drives the spur of bone projecting from the hand-and-wrist still gripping his own arm deep into the eye-socket of the creature attacked by Laas!

[OOC: Attacking using "Carve an Opening". Aymery Guironne rolled 2 using 1d20. Attack the zombies! Raw die roll +3 for STR, +1 for level, +1 for Escalation, +1 for Woodland Blessing. Total: 8.
Damage: 3, even on a miss.]

OOC: The Zombie mooks take 8 more damage total, and now there is only 1 left.

Aymery cuts a zombie open, nearly in half, and Laas' staff pops its head open. The creature falls to the floor, leaving only one of the undead clawing at Aymery.

OOC: It's Elohir's turn!

In reply to Elohir Raenafael (msg # 232):

Seeing how well the last frosty blast worked Quoril sends another. He disliked reusing spells, but in a fight this dire there is no need to account for "style points".  Still the Winter Court may want some token of appreciation after all the times he has called on their aid this day.

It seems the cold does not agree with you dust eater, I offer you a chance to surrender...but I also offer this reminder of why you would yield.

The wand moves in a circular motion and another winter sprite is summoned. This one looks a bit like "Jack Frost" a wintery beard , hat, pouty shoes.  He blows a tiny handful of snow at the Naga... The snow gently floats to the Naga and the explodes in a violent and snow storm that surrounds the ancient beast for and instant before it dissipates.

But the cold and frost looks to have little effect. The pixie shrugs and returns to the realm of the winter court.

Well....like I said that was just a warning. Surrender?
the wizard's words carry none of the the bravado he had before his spell fizzled.

OOC: ray of frost , at will,   iNT (+4) + wand (+1) + LVL (+1) + bonus (+1) + escalation (+3). = +10
11:59, Today: Quoril Silversgleaming rolled 13 using 1d20+10. More frost on the snake.

So since I missed (last time revealed 14 as the PD of the Naga) I do damage of my level and  I don't know of the "wand's" plus 1 adds to that so 1 or 2 points .

OOC: That's a very good question about the weapon damage! Let's say Yes for now, so you do 2 HP damage to the Naga, taking it to 13 remaining.
Since Doc is away, Let's say that Aymery, Laas, or Elohir can go in his place, that way I don't screw the party over with a too soon Naga attack.

In desperation it turns towards Elohir as he rolls away and sings again, it's golden voice penetrating his mind, reverberating in his skull and showing images of a primordial world.

Re: Overgrown Mage Tower
A blink and the sight of Elohir's blade deep in the naga's skull but the elf himself all glazey-eyed pulls Doc out of his submissive reverie. The serpent consumed his soul for resisting.

Aymery was a whirwind of zombie slaughter. Poor townsfolk. That beast has taken our best and still stands.

Doc numbly watches the druid and the wizard's noble retributive efforts fall flat. What can a coward gnome tinker do? Elohir's brain fried and my petty 'invention' did nothing.

Absently cracking a new pack of bolts with shaking hands, as if collecting leaf for his pipe, the thin metal missiles spill and clatter on the floor, all but one that catches on the crook of his little finger. What good is a pinprick against ancient emerald scales?

Outside the window, he watches a wide swampy landscape, but none of this carnage, blood, death, and undeath. His hands fumble and load the bolt. It's mouth with wicked fangs was wide, ready to sing death knell for Laas, or clamp venomous fangs deep into his guts. Then Aymery, then Quoril, then me. We should've let the dwarf and 'forged try first.

But Doc was nothing if not a good shot. So if nothing else, and that was likely, he could knock that maw back from Laas for a moment, moment enough for the fickle Woodlands to decide to change the destiny of the world starting at this place.

The bolt whisks past Laas' ear, frosting his hair. Forming a steamy icicle it enters the naga's mouth and pierces the soft tissue at the top of it's throat. Heh. Maybe that'll ice it's singing voice.

Doc is surprised to find himself smug with levity even in the moment of conceding to despair. Maybe it was the comfort of chaos sparking around him in fragments of arcane force like the air was a slowly shattering prism. Maybe it was the way the naga really didn't seem to like his ice popsicle gift. Who knows.

OOC: 09:20, Today: Cunningham Hickoryhock rolled 1 using 1d6. chaotic benefit.
09:20, Today: Cunningham Hickoryhock rolled 1 using 1d4. damage type.
09:19, Today: Cunningham Hickoryhock rolled 7 using 1d8+3. damage.
09:19, Today: Cunningham Hickoryhock rolled 12 using 1d20. Bolt: +4 Int, +1 Lvl, +3 esc, +1 Blessing.

Total = 21 vs PD (Whoo that looks like a hit!)
Damage = 7 cold damage (1 if miss)
Doc gets +1 AC from chaos
All get +1 vs naga till next turn (not that it matters so much)

OOC: Laas does 1 HP miss damage, and Doc's bolt easily finishes off the 3 HP the Naga has remaining!

Laas' bold swings cause the Naga to rear back and hiss at just the right moment for Doc's bolt to fly into soft flesh in it's mouth.
It turns hate filled glowing eyes upon the gnome, but it's golden face takes a crystalline blue tinge. the look of rage with a hint of confusion is frozen on the ancient creatures face as the alchemical frost solidifies the soft flesh of it's internals and brain. With no control from the head, the snake body slumps forward, and when the golden mask of a face hits the floor the head shatters across it, leaving golden flesh shards around the elf's silent corpse.

Distressed by death, but unable to cope but by avoiding emotion through immersion in 'important work', Doc gives token attention to the battle's gory end, then sniffs and thereafter tries to keep his eyes and mind from the emotional center of the room. Instead he busily seeks the source of the Archmage's 'unintentional' swampy landscape depredation.

Doc sees that on the north side are two stone consoles with various colored crystals glowing. In the center of the room is a ritual circle inscribed into the floor. Around the circle are five pillars of an unknown material reaching from floor to ceiling and pulsing with a yellow and blue light.

The entire thing seems to be some sort of arcane machine feeding off the ley line energies at this point. It uses environmental control arcane tech that Doc has seen before.

The original purpose of the machine seems to have been to boost the fertility of the area, but it managed to get warped, probably by the old serpent magic in this part of the land.

OOC: Doc can make a Background check to try to right the wrongs the machine is doing.

After some fiddling and switching/pushing/pulling of various glowing crystals, Doc finds the machine to be irreparably corrupted, but he manages to shut it down without too much fuss, which should result in the land returning to its natural state within a season or so.

The two villagers who were released from the cages below stumble up the stairs and stare at the Naga lying on the ground, vortexes of magical energy still crackling around it, and at the remains of their neighbors, now returned to death.

In reply to Laas Yah-Nir (msg # 249):

Friend Laas, you honor Elohir well. But, as to the Archmage...that could be more complicated.  Since humans can not attune themselves to each other like we can, they create labyrinthial  bureaucracies, with several levels of authority. All of which act in the name of the leader.

I am but a friendly name among the Mages...but perhaps I can find exactly who was in charge of this project and who knew it has failed. Perhaps if we are lucky even see them face justice.

OOC: though this game is winding down, further investigation of this event would propel further adventures for Quoril. Cause he feels betrayed and angry over this situation. But he does have a positive relationship with the Archmage and will feel conflict there.
