Re: OOC Data File Discussions
I've been re-reading some comics with Interloper, and the few Eternal data files from Annihilation.  I made a few tweaks to my data file, restricting Millenia of Experience/Versatile to a single trait (I'd missed that initially), and replacing Focus with Multipower.  I think that fits better both mechanically with the way the data file is designed, and also as he's portrayed in the comics.  If anyone has any concerns, let me know.  Otherwise, I think I'm set to go.

Dr. Strange:
I've gone ahead and set Strange's character sheet to what I will be starting the game with, if anyone has any issues please let me know.  I decided not to go with Mystic Grandmaster, even though I believe it would be appropriate for Strange being Earth's Sorcerer Supreme and a good indicator of such...I just didn't like the fact that I would pretty much be rolling 2d12 every single time.  I think we can justify the d10 Mystic Master due to the current state of Strange's level of faith in himself and his abilities.

Other than that, I'm good for starting..!

If you want a good in-canon reason, Dr. Strange mentioned to Wiccan once that Doom knows a ton of magic that he does not. Grandmaster to me would represent a near comprehensive knowledge of all magic which even Strange does not possess.

Re: OOC Data File Discussions
I need to pull in milestones for Doom, but I don't think their lack will keep me from starting.  Thinking of what Doom will be up to when we start - likely preparing for his confrontation with Mephisto... likely involving the Ark of the Covenant.

Re: OOC Data File Discussions
I realize we haven't posted in this thread in a month, but as of one of the newer Avengers Arena issues, I think (if no one minds) any XP Nico gets might be used to buy this SFX on the Staff of One:

Blood Sacrifice: When you are physically stressed out, you may add a d12 to the doom pool and take that much emotional stress to come back with no physical stress or trauma. For the remainder of the scene, double Sorcery. Even if you take no more emotional stress, become emotionally stressed out at the end of the scene (removing stress and stepping up emotional trauma as normal).

Re: OOC Data File Discussions
That seems fine to me, Nico. I feel like those kinds of XP purchases, that simulate new abilities revealed in the comics, are the sort that make sense in this game, along with unlockable content, as opposed to say stepping-up power dice or whatever. I think our goal with datafile changes should be to simulate our Marvel characters as well as possible.

It's fine with me too.  I haven't read the Avengers Arena.  Would you mind posting a short summary of what happened that involved the Blood Sacrifice SFX?  It sounds pretty interesting.

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
Nico ends up dying after her arm has been cut off and she's dragging herself through artic weather towards the staff. She dies right before reaching it, but her blood suddenly super charges it. Both of them float and it fully recovers her. She gets furious and extremely powerful (Arcade comments both her personality and her magic have changed).

Arcade then explains that the Staff of One works on blood magic. A drop is enough to power the staff (ie. When she summons it). Having a massive amount of it as a sacrifice super charges it - it broke her psyche for a few moments and let her fire off incredibly potent spells one after another after another.

By the end of it, she's on her knees and "back to normal" but just wants Chase to shut up and give her a minute to clear her head.

Interesting. The SFX seems like a good way to handle this.

Re: OOC Data File Discussions
I don't know how I didn't notice this before: I was thinking about possible upcoming plotlines/concepts/etc. and ended up looking over Magik's datafile with specific regard to her occasional transformation to the Darkchylde. This is the only specific reference to it on the file...

SFX: Darkchylde. Step up or double SORCERY MASTERY for an action or reaction, then take your second highest die as emotional stress.

Again, this is my bad for not noticing earlier, but does that seem right to you guys? My reading experience with Magik's Darkchylde form has always been that, when she loses control of her emotions, she basically becomes a completely different person until she is somehow calmed or is taken out of the fight. This SFX is just a one-action boost.

Wouldn't it make more sense if it was maybe something that happened when she reached a certain stress level, and could not snap out of unless she spent a PP or reached a transition scene? Perhaps with a constant or one-time addition to the doom pool to reflect how dangerous she is to herself and those around her?

Re: OOC Data File Discussions
Go for a limit based on the Hulk/Sentry/etc? Alternatively, go for an SFX that represents the scene duration with the Nova Blast sfx.

Limit: Darkchylde: When emotionally stressed out, move emotional stress (d12) to the doom pool. Magik becomes possessed by the Darkchylde and acts against friend or foe equally. She uses the highest rated doom die as her affiliation and successful actions against her step down the highest doom die instead of causing stress. If the highest die in the doom pool is a d6 or less, Magik becomes stressed out and takes that die as emotional trauma.

or

SFX: Darkchylde: Step up or double Sorcery for the remainder of the scene or pay a PP to do both. After each action or reaction, step up emotional stress.

Re: OOC Data File Discussions
I think both of those are definitely more appropriate. That first one especially evokes the chaotic nature of the Darkchylde.

Anyone else have any input? I'm leaning towards something very similar to Nico's first suggestion, but I don't want to seem like I'm power-gaming or messing with the system.

Re: OOC Data File Discussions
I think the first option looks best to me as well; with the Power Level of our characters and the general theme of the story itself, Doom Pool management seems to be our main concern on the die-rolling side of things, and it's flavored well

Magik, I actually suggest using both of these: Magik can use being the Darkchylde to become more powerful, but it puts her on a downward spiral to losing control, with a slight alteration to the first to represent Magik struggling to maintain her control by not relying on Sorcery.

So, like this, I think:
SFX: Darkchylde. Step up or double Sorcery for the remainder of the scene or pay a PP to do both. Until the scene ends, after each action or reaction using Sorcery, step up emotional stress.
Limit: Possessed. When emotionally stressed out, move emotional stress (d12) to the doom pool.

I think that works pretty well. The one part that I'm a bit confused by is "acts against friend or foe equally". It definitely makes sense for the character, I just don't know how I would play that. Attack whoever's closest? Attack by die roll?

I think you know the character well enough to make choices on a case by case basis. It could be, as Nico says, area attacking everyone, or maybe focusing on a fellow hero you have been in conflict with, or even unleashing demonic magick on innocent bystanders. You just need to parse what it means when the Darkchylde takes over and narrate accordingly.

Re: OOC Data File Discussions
That makes sense. Okay, since no one has expressed any opposition to it, I've made the changes that Nico, Conan, and I discussed to Magik's datafile. This ought to help make her the emotionally-charged, unstable element she is at this time in her life, and make for some interesting plot.

Black Cat
Solo d10, Buddy d8, Team d6

Milestones
Ok, there's a lot of options for this. Black Cat's two milestones from Fifty State Initiative both work, as do Tigra's from Civil War given her current magical cat powers. Then there could be one based on bad luck or one based on the current scene that she can use to actually gain the second powerset.

Black Cat's in 50SI
Burglar
1xp when...you talk to someone who works closely with an item you plan to steal
3xp when...you incorporate an ally or enemy into a heist
10xp when...you give up a heist to bring justice or find a way to do the right thing and get away with the crime

Questionable Ethics
1xp when...you lie to someone who trusts you
3xp when...continue to hold a lie, even though it causes heroes to enter conflict
10xp when...you abandon a hero to their enemies for gain or abandon an agreement to save a hero

Tigra's in Civil War
Every Cat Has It's Claws
1xp when...you flirt with another hero
3xp when...you accept or rebuff the advances of another hero
10xp when...you break off a relationship to maintain your independence or commit deeply to a monogamous relationship

Feline Heritage (fitting since she actually has cat powers)
1xp when...you engage in innocent cat-like behavior in everyday life
3xp when...admit that your feral cat-like behavior makes you feel out of control and uncomfortable
10xp when...attempt to remove your cat powers through magic or find a balance between your cat and human personalities.

And two new milestones
Never Let a Black Cat Cross Your Path
1xp when...successfully use Misfortune to place a bad luck complication on an enemy
3xp when...you add a d12 or greater to the doom pool due to your Jinxes Aura limit
10xp when...curse that you have your bad luck powers back and seek a way to remove them or decide that misfortune and mayhem is the best skill a girl could have.

Sticky Paws - EVENT SPECIFIC
1xp when...you lie or take actions to cover up your tracks
3xp when...you examine the Hellfire Club' wares to determine the most valuable
10xp when...you successfully steal an object or abandon the heist when the stakes are too great

Unlockables
5XP - Unlocks Black Cat's second listed powerset, an amulet dedicated to an Egyptian cat goddess of fortune.
10XP - In addition to her powerset, at any time during the next Act where she could create a resource, Black Cat may spend a PP to use a stolen d8 Mystic Resource as if she had Mystic Master.

This datafile looks perfect. I can't find a single thing I would change, and I think it is always good to have back up Milestones. Also, I think the original three Distinctions work great, but the fourth one is a valid option.

Re: OOC Data File Discussions
Ok, so knowing who the datafile is, there's definitely a lot more to work with for suggestions:

Affiliations: I think Team could be argued to be his d8 or even d10 easily. He worked with a group of Pulp Adventurers for years

Distinctions: Mysterious Background becomes "Still Kicking Weapon of K'un-Lun"

Power sets:
Physical Prowess becomes "Heart of Shou-lao" or "Immortal Weapon" (Man, really is a shame Bride had to drop out)
-Mystic Sense could probably be argued to be a d6 unless I'm forgetting something important
-Combat Knowledge becomes "Book of the Iron Fist"
-Healing becomes "Chi Healing"
-Special Technique becomes "Chi Manipulation/Hypnotism"
-Immunity: Other than maybe aging, I'm not sure I'd keep this (and even then, he is still aging, just slowly). He doesn't really have immunity to diseases and poisons I don't think
-Mystery Ability: Obviously the Iron Fist.
-Limit: Tragic Past. This is fine, but I was thinking of something like this
"Opium Addiction: Turn any Heart of Shou-lao power into an Intoxicated complication to recover that much emotional stress. Remove that complication to recover that power."

Guns becomes "Gun Kata"
-Special Costume I'm not too sure on. Did his suit actually have a feature like that?
-Special Attack becomes "Chi Infused Weapon"

Thanks for taking the time to make some suggestions on my character. I'll take a look at the ones above more in depth in a minute, but the ones I quoted above just jumped right out at me.

As far as "Gun Kata" - I love Equilibrium too, but I'm going to call it Gun-Fu instead as it's something that Danny Rand referenced in Immortal Iron Fist Vol. 1 (#4? Not sure...).

Special Costume/Beta Cloth is not something that he had in the comic, it's something that I've come-up with that will reference the "What If?" part of his backstory. In the 616 Marvel U it's the material that SHIELD makes its uniforms out of - a fabric that is both ballistic and fire resistant. I will post more of his backstory as soon as I am able.

And the Special Attack is called "Lightning from God" a reference to previous Iron Fist Wu Ao-Shi (also called the Pirate Queen of Pinghai Bay) who infused her Shou-Lao empowered chi into the arrows that she shot at her enemies. Completely badass IMO!

Alright, I couldn't remember the names as it's been a while, but all good. And actually on the Gun-fu issue, I wrote Gun-fu and then went "No wait, that's the one from that movie. His was Gun Kata" so I had them mixed up is all.
