I have used my Action Point on my last turn.

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

Before Nemeroff's attack, Zog stretches out his hand again. The air carries him further forward. He points both hands and unleashes a blast of lightning from each--one at the chuul, the other at the shanty blocking Agon's line of sight, utterly destroying the offending wall. He then fires another blast at the chuul for good measure...

MOVE: Fly to new spot.
STANDARD: Elemental Bolt on Chuul with Elemental Escalation, hits reflex 44 for 64 lightning damage. My second target, per the DM, can be the wall blocking line of sight for Agon so he can attack; the wall is totally wiped out.

AP for STANDARD: Elemental Bolt again, hits Reflex 33 due to Arcane Spellfury and Nemeroff's Action Point to-hit bonus. If that misses, Fate's Chaos to re-roll for a 37; if that hits either way, I do 50 more lightning damage with Nemeroff's action point bonus.

Total damage 114 hp.

Encounter Powers spent:
Elemental Escalation 2/4 times
Learned Boost
Fate's Chaos (maybe)

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

When Zog use his Action Point, I use Seed of Chaos.

Trigger: You or an ally you can see spends an action point to make an attack.
Effect: After the attack is resolved, roll a d6. The triggering character gains the resulting benefit.

I then use Command Chaos to choose the result of the roll.
Trigger: You use seed of chaos.
Effect: You lose a healing surge, and you can select the result of your d6 roll.

Zog can make a free RBA against Chuul.

By the way Zog, my Tactical Presence only grants a +8 bonus to damage, not to attack roll.

Lightning seemed to rain down the whole battlefield as Zog unleashed his power. Seeing an opening, Agon aimed over the remains of the wall his companion had struck down, and fired at the huge creature.

Standard Action : Magic Missile on Chuul for 16 force damage.
Saving Throw : Success
Status : -12 hp
Resources used : Displacement (utility 16), Twist of Space (encounter attack 7), Second Wind (1 healing surge)

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

And, miraculously, Zog squeezes out one more blast on the chuul this round...

Okay, no problem--my Fate's Chaos re-roll was still a 33, which I hope is a hit.

Needed a benny to hit, I hope, actually Reflex 36 due to prone penalty with the free RBA for 56 hp.

18:32, Today: Zog the Faceless rolled 56 using 2d12+46 with rolls of 9,1. RBA damage.
18:32, Today: Zog the Faceless rolled 38 using 1d20+26 with rolls of 12. Benny reroll.
18:32, Today: Zog the Faceless rolled 31 using 1d20+26 with rolls of 5. Free RBA on chuul.

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

The astonishing group pounds the chuul into a mass of goo.

After this display, the group no longer has any trouble with crowding in the streets, as word spreads quickly of their impressive and rather quick victory over the death giant. Simple questions to the cowed residents of the shantytown reveals that the group defeated one of the more senior members of the Death Giant squad that act as the de facto town guard for Arantor, the dark master of Monadhan. The fact that he was destroyed, along with his chuul pet, goes a long way to scare the pants off of everyone in the demi-plane.

The group is able to reach the central outpost after another twenty minutes of walking after a short breather. A retinue is ready to greet the party at the gate: a tall, ugly human man wielding a pole-arm, surrounded by underlings.

"I am Pelnur Gatesfist, governor of this town. You are not welcome here, troublemakers," he snarls.

The experienced party can see through his façade, however--he is really scared that the party is here to overthrow him.

The benefits of epic-level passive insight is that you can read this guy like a book.

You can assume you have had a short rest.

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

Zog-as-bearded-guy smiles a broad smile and bows deeply. "Greetings, governor. We are in particular need of your expertise. "

He indicates the shantytown. "A person as well-versed in the ins and out of this place must know how to locate someone or something. I am looking for anyone who knows of a name: Mornujhar. Does that name ring familiar? Or have you heard it mentioned by anyone?"

Diplomacy check of 30, for what it's worth.

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

Pelnur swells up visibly at the able flattery wafting his way from Zog. "Well, now, I think I can say that I've not heard that name. However, let me consult with my men..."

He circles back and talks with the men in the group and then turns back. "I think I have, in fact, heard that name through my extensive network. It will cost you, though. Give me a magic item of some value as tribute and I'll divulge the information."

"A magic item for an information that we are not sure is true? It seems a good deal for stupid people. So, you think that we are stupid, do you?" he says.

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

Agon stared at his companions, then reached into his robes, pulling out a small silvery jewel. "Has it come to this ? The Sentient Crystal, entrusted to me by my master's master..." He held the diamond for all to see, and as it reflected light, a strange unintelligible whisper seemed to echo all around. "Should I part with it in exchange for some vague information ?"

The mage carefully pocketed the magic item. His stare and voice hardened.

"I'd rather go look for information straight at the source - to the ruler of this land. And when he asks, we can tell him his greedy underling eagerly sent us his way. All for a few coins" he finished with a pointed look at the governor.

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

All the color drops out of Pelnur's face . "Now that won't be necessary," he stammers. "We do know a person who's uttered that name. Sarissa the Seer is sees and knows, and says things that most of us don't understand. She says that name a lot lately and we don't know why. You could ask her."

The toadies around the governor bob their heads, looking in trembling fear at the crystal of doom wielded by the mighty wizard.

The wizard let the silence stretch for a few uneasy seconds, before finally nodding. "We've lost enough time here. Tell us where she can be found, so we can be on our way" he demanded. "Let's hope this side trip won't be a waste of time, so we don't have to come back here and ask again..."

"Oops!  Sorry aboot that" he said pleasantly "ye wouldnae hae a wee cloth so Ah can wipe this muck aff ma hammer?"

He beamed a wide gap-toothed smile.  "If it's nae problem, that is."

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

The governor and his men are rather obsequiously helpful and, after helping Harald clean up and providing some rather greasy and poorly-cooked meat pie "refreshments" to the "honored guests," the governor has a group of his toadies "personally escort" the party back into the shantytown to what is allegedly the hut of Sarissa.

The hut is actually of better construction than most of the shantytown, having thatched walls that appear to be at least reinforced against any weather.

After ensuring that this is not kind of trap by checking the environs, the party head int. An old human woman squints up at them suspiciously. "Ho, the shinies are here. Hear you killed the big chuul. What can Sarissa the see-er see for you?"

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

As a Sage and an arcane devotee of the goddess of fate, Agon knew all too well the weight of responsibility that came with knowledge, the burden of glimpsing the threads of destiny. He stepped forward and met the woman's gaze, looking for such signs in her eyes.

"Well met" he began. "I am Agon, and my companions and I are on our way to Mornujhar's fortress. We know it is not located in this land, but a way there should be - a portal most likely. Do you have any relevant information that could point us in the right direction ?" he asked.

Zog nods his assent. "indeed, we would be indebted for any knowledge you could share. We have business with Mornujhar that requires some discretion on your part and some haste on ours." He smiles a bright, charming smile, which might be disconcerting for his companions, still getting used to him talking with this new face.

The old woman claps her hands. "Indeed, indeed, I do know things. Only one hundred gold per question is my price, yes, quite reasonable for the kinds of secrets you seek. One hundred gold per question."

She extends a basket, which currently contains but three silver coins.

The mage raised an eyebrow. "A steep price. Don't you think 10 gold a question is more reasonable ? And safer as well - too much gold is likely to attract unwanted attention" he cautioned, waving outside as he referred to the shantytown dwellers.

He reached into a belt pouch and counted 10 gold coins. "If you can answer our questions, I'll make sure to add a good bonus" he encouraged her, holding the gold above the woman's basket.

The old woman sticks out her chin. "Forty gold per question, and no less. My knowledge is worth SOMETHING, you know." Despite her 'hurt' face, she is clearly trying to make a good profit off of this. It is also clear that giving in to the (for this party) rather affordable price will win a lasting friend in her.

"That sounds reasonable" the wizard agreed with an easy nod, reaching into his belt pouch and dropping 40 gold coins total in the old woman's basket.

"Where can we find a portal to take us out of this land and to Mornujhar's fortress ?" was his first question to the seeress.

The old woman smiles a wizened smile and cradles the coins in her hand. "You will wish you did not know the answer. The portal lies in the fell lair of the lord of Monadhan himself, Arantor. Next question?" She giggles, depositing her coins in a pouch and extending her hand again.
