Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

Agon suggests that the group pay Kas a visit, and is about to ask the old woman where they might find him, when they hear a shouting from outside.

“Sarissa! Oh, seer! I trust I’m not interrupting anything. Ah, I see you have guests. . . .”

Harald peers out to see a woman dressed in ragged clothing. He notes almost instantly that she does not cast a reflection in a nearby puddle.

At the sound of the voice, Sarissa shrinks behind her bed. "Oh no. Not them, no, not them. Save me!"

Everyone roll initiative. The newcomers have not done anything hostile, but, you know, that COULD happen :-)

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

In reply to EpicOne (msg # 114):

Gromley suddenly noticed a bunch of scary looking people about he did not know. As a reflex, maybe from the gnomish survival instinct-Gromley attempted to vanish. It might be all well and good when one is a towering mass of muscle and metal-but when you are under 3 feet tall and don't even have a dagger on you-it best to go unseen.

OOC-15:57, Today: Gromley Underhill rolled 30 using 1d20+12 with rolls of 16. Initiative. +2 extra from ally benefit.

I also have reactive stealth, which happens before initiative is rolled. I will roll it now, in case it applies.

15:59, Today: Gromley Underhill rolled 23 using 1d20+20 with rolls of 3. Stealth. Yuck...never mind about that! Yeesh...

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

Harald looked puzzled; the lack of a reflection reminded of something, but he could not remember what.

"Looks like the in-laws are here, lass.  Best ye put the kettle on."

He sounded jocular but something about the newcomers made him instinctively drop his hand to the haft of his axe.

23:15, Today: Harald Gaptooth rolled 25 using 1d20+18 with rolls of 5. Initiative check.  Nemeroff bonus added

Agon was about to ask for details about Kas and his whereabouts when they were interrupted. Seeing the old woman's fearful reaction, he frowned. "Who are they ?" he asked the seeress in a whisper. "We could tell them you're not here, send them away for now" he offered.

The wizard was hoping to avoid a confrontation, but he had a bad feeling about this...

The situation escalated quickly, but the wizard reacted quickly as well. With a single word and a practiced gesture, he cast a bolt of blue white energy at the woman, the impact covering her lower body in a layer of frost.

"We have to spread out, we're too vulnerable gathered in here" he whispered to his companions.

Standard Action : Ray of Frost at A. 38 vs Fortitude.

Gromley focused his will, and attempted to wipe his presence out of the woman's mind. Then he moved over to another section of the house, staying behind cover. He was not planning to expose himself if he did not have to...

(OOC-Using Memory hole on woman.

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

The woman shrieks, revealing long, pointy canines. She points at Agon. "I was just going to knock you out and snack on you for that. Now you're going to DIE."

She then starts singing a ghastly yet alluring song. Agon has the presence of mind to stick his fingers in his ears and the quick-witted Nemeroff quickly follows suit. Harald and Zog are not so fortunate, and find themselves wandering forward despite themselves toward the woman. She then steps back, cackling at Harald.

Harald and Zog can see several other beings now crouching in nearby shanties--these are more clearly former humanoids, and quite possibly vampires of some kind, leering at the pair of travelers with feral, blood-encrusted teeth. There is also another woman, this one with a small pair of devil-like horns on her forehead, hanging back to the east.

I forgot to mention: You have hit a Milestone, as you completed a Skill challenge after your fight, so each of you has an Action Point from that Milestone.

Lady A attacks everyone but Gromley with a close burst attack vs. Will, hits Harald and Zog. Both are pulled toward her--Zog is pulled 3 squares and Harald 2 squares (one less due to dwarfiness). Harald and Zog are immobilized (save ends).

If you want to make knowledge checks about these foes, go ahead and do so on your turn. Agon and Gromley, you can roll retroactively--it's a Religion roll.

Harald and Zog can see creatures 1-3 and C.

When Nemeroff sees his two allies being dragged out of the house, he decides to move out himself and attack the vampire lady in front of him. In the process, Zog is called to make an attack on the lady, and succeed.

In the same momentum, the Genasi makes a second attack.

Effect: Zog makes a free RBA against Lady A
Zog's RBA vs. Lady A hit AC 55 for 53 hit points
Minor: Greenflame Blade(Quickened Spellcasting) vs. Lady A hit AC 37 for 23 hit points(Fire)

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

Harald grimaced as he was pulled nearer to this strange woman, vampire pf whatever and then frozen to the spot  He did not like the feeling of being controlled and so exerted his not inconsiderable strength to fight off the effect.

"That wisnae a good idea, lassie" he grated.  "Did ye no' know better than tae try to stop a dwarf."

He struggled forward, shaking of her evil spell as he did so, and preparing his body for the fight to come.

Although he was already close enough to attack he had decided to try to get behind her so she could not flee from her probably deserved comeuppance.  And so he edged forwards once more before attacking with a devastating strike.  Then, again, he edged forward, swung in behind her and struck her vulnerable rear.

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

The woman looks rather surprised as she is blasted and pummeled by the potent party. She looks around, looking for a way out of this mess.

Meanwhile, the other figures spring from their shanties and fall upon the advance party. Harald ably blocks the claws of the creature attacking him. Noting this, the other two creatures choose to attack Nemeroff instead and have better fortune, clawing him viciously. He can feel bits of his life force ebbing away even after the pain from the initial scratches fades.

Harald, you needed the re-roll to hit with Inexorable Advance.

Vampires 1-3 move to engage and attack--#1 misses Harald, #2 and #3 both hit Nemeroff for 16 and 13 hp respectively. Nemeroff has ongoing 10 Necrotic damage (save ends).

C disappears from sight. All three PCs outside hear the sound of flapping wings.

Zog shakes his head, trying to free his mind. It clears enough, though, to determine the danger posed by these newcomers.

"You are fools to ignore me. You WILL pay the price."

He raises his two hands and blasts the nearest vampire and the woman, lightning cascading all over their bodies.

He then lifts his leg and shakes it, taking a small step forward...

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

Harald gets the satisfaction of seeing some ichor leaking from the veins of two of the creatures. However, as he hits each of them, they both flash their hideous faces at Harald. One of them scars his mind, but Harald staggers back to finish his attack.

One of the wounded vampires moves around and tries to bite Nemeroff on the neck. Nemeroff, naturally, seeks rather actively to elude this embrace. The other two vampires claw madly at different targets, one of them tearing a gash in Nemeroff's skin, while the other fumbles and claws Harald's armor.

Then, out of nowhere, the woman who vanished a moment ago reappears and. She points at Zog and mutters some words; Zog feels something coming over his mind, but uses a technique he learned from the Monks of the Way in Furyondy to shake it off.

When bloodied, 2 and 3 get a close burst 2 attack. 2's attack hits Harald for 22 hp and pushes him; 3's attack misses all targets.

I'm going to rule that Harald can use his move action to re-engage and continue his attack as written.

1 and 3 attack Nemeroff; 1 misses, 3 crits for 18 hp damage (and more ongoing necrotic, which does not stack with the existing ongoing). 2 attacks Harald and misses.

C becomes visible, 6 squares up in the tree, and targets Zog, but misses. EMPHASIS: She is 30' in the air.

All PCs are up!

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

In reply to EpicOne (msg # 136):

The glowing eyes glance up at the woman in the tree-and they glow. Suddenly, the woman floats up into the air, and proceeds to smash down into one of the vampires, causing her and him to fall before the warriors on the ground.

(OOC-Using Living Missile!

16:01, Today: Gromley Underhill rolled 30 using 1d20+25 with rolls of 5. Living Missile vs Lady C. vs fort.

Even on a miss-which this most likely is-Lady C is slowed (Save ends)

As long as she is slowed, Gromley can use the living missile attack as a minor action once per turn. He can slide her up to 11 spaces, more than enough to smash her into the ground in front of Nemeroff. This will also hit Vampire 2, knocking him down as well.

16:05, Today: Gromley Underhill rolled 19 using 2d6+12 with rolls of 2,5. Damage.
16:05, Today: Gromley Underhill rolled 40 using 1d20+25 with rolls of 15. Living missile attack vs 2. (Reflex)

Vampire two take full damage, and is prone, Lady C takes half that damage, and is also prone-as well as slowed.

Move action-Gromley stays hidden-seeing the world through his projection.

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

Before Gromley yanks her out of the tree, Zog moves closer to the tree and accosts the woman. "You are wise to target me. Let me show you why." With a wave of his hands, lightning flies and deals a burn to both the flying woman and her vampire friend....

MOVE: Move closer to tree
STANDARD: Learned Boost using Elemental Bolt with Elemental Escalation. Either 33 or 40 hits C for 74 hp lightning damage, 36 probably hits 2 for 63 lightning damage. Then fly to current location.
Two more uses of Elemental Escalation available.

Nemeroff, I am ready to deliver some kick-butt melee basics for you.
