Finally noticing the abduction in progress, the wizard tried to gather his thoughts enough to interrupt the invisible force taking the seeress the away.

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

Jarred by the force of the commands coming from the two heroes, the invisible force stops cold--long enough for Agon to cast his dispelling spell!

A winged woman who looks very much like the now-slain "Lady C" stands holding the seer-ess. She is blonde, where Lady C was a brunette, but she has the same small horns, large wings and similar weaponry. She shrieks and takes off into the sky with the seeress!

Again, if you want to use attack powers or the like, roll a related skill instead to represent a series of attacks. Alternatively, you can use other skills to chase her or otherwise try to capture her.

Actions particularly welcome from Nemeroff.

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

Nemeroff runs then jumps on the house before trying another jump to gran the seer.

"Stay here!" he shouts.

Since I has not used my Action point in the encounter, I'm taking two moves action and a standard to try grabbing the seer while the creature takes her to the sky. I don't know how high they are now, but I'm trying it.

20:12, Today: Nemeroff rolled 33 using 1d20+27 with rolls of 6. Arcana check.
20:12, Today: Nemeroff rolled 26 using 1d20+18 with rolls of 8. Strength vs. Dex(Grab).

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

Nemeroff performs an epic series of leaps and snatches the seer from her kidnapper's hands.

Gromley almost immediately recognizes the woman's nature, and knows how to track her.

Gromley can decide what he wants to share of what he knows, and the party can decide how to proceed--chase the would-be-kidnapper, track her later, or let her go.

Agon joined Nemeroff to help him take care of the seeress. "Let's help her back to her house. We can join the others later, I'd like to hear what she has to say that was worth this abduction attempt. If she's in good enough shape to talk, that is."

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

The seeress is completely unconscious due to a sleeping poison clearly administered by the would-be-kidnapper, but due to Agon's ministrations, he is confident she is stable and will recover. You are quite certain that you will not be able to wake her up for a good little while, unfortunately.

You can spend time trying to wake her up if you want, but it would be a bit of a red herring. For my sanity, I'd appreciate it if you would join the others :-)

I need everyone in the party to make an Easy Acrobatics or Athletics check (DC 20), and Gromley to make one more Arcana roll, with an automatic +2 assist from Agon.

Turning away with a sigh, he started running, trying to keep up with his companions - or at least not to lose sight of them.

Harald Gaptooth:
"A'm wi' ye Gromley" wheezed Harald "but Ah've only got wee legs an' no' a magic buggy." He sniggered and followed on.

"I beg your pardon, my dwarfish friend, but some of us have legs far more 'wee' than others-and require a bit of assistance from time to time..." Gromley stated in a semi-serious tone.

Baldrick sighed as only a glowing orb could, which got him a dirty look from the gnome. However, the disk kept moving fast and floating high above the others...

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

The party follows the distinct traces of the cambion's life-essence as it races across the shantytown to a spot just outside of town.

There, they find her crouching behind another figure. This is--or was--a male human, though he is now possessed of the unnatural pallor of a vampire. He carries himself with an air of command, though, that distinguishes him from the cowering cambion.

"So, you are the group who I have heard about. You are clearly not the normal lost souls who find their way into this unhappy realm. You are, therefore, worthy to deal with. I am Kas the Destroyer. You may have heard of me. I believe you are likely seeking the way out of Monadhan, and, unlike most, have the means to find the dark portal guarded by Arantor himself and make use of it properly.

"If you will listen to me, I can tell you not only how to find the portal but how to defeat Arantor himself. Will you hear more?"

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

In reply to EpicOne (msg # 180):

Gromley looked at the others-not really wanting to speak for people he had just met. However, at the very root of what he did-was being a diplomat. So he sighed, floated forward, and gestured politely.

"A very interesting offer. Please understand if my friends and I are somewhat...skeptical of it?

After all, we where just assaulted by several of your lady friends. Not to mention the attractive lady behind you has something that does not belong to her. Then there is the small matter of this whole place is called the Plane of Betrayal.

I think, given everything that has happened, my friends would be much more willing to listen if you made an offer of good faith-to show the truth of your words..."
He gestured to the Soul thief to show what he meant.

(OOC-13:49, Today: Gromley Underhill rolled 32 using 1d20+26 with rolls of 6. Diplomacy.)

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

Kas laughs--a cold laugh. "You strike a hard bargain, gnome. But, since you are doing the simple thing I requested and continue to listen with swords at rest, allow me to share more.

"Arantor was a silver dragon who fought bravely in the war between the dragonborn and the tieflings, many centuries ago. He attacked the town of Monadhan, not realizing it was full of civilians. Mad with grief and shame, he tried to cover up his crime, but his own daughter confronted him. Arantor murdered his daughter to protect his guilt, and thus the Domain of Betrayal was born.

"Now, Arantor spends all his time in the lowest depths
of the caves beneath the shantytown. His betrayal was so heinous that parts of his past come to life periodically in the lair...just to torment Arantor, I think. If you find a way to insinuate yourself into those illusions of the past, Arantor’s grief and shame will weaken him. Use the word “Imrissa”— that was the name of Arantor’s daughter.

"But beware! Death giants and undead guardians stand watch in the upper chambers. Simply becoming lost down there is a constant danger. The walls themselves can betray you.

"Now, my price for this information: if you find a sword among the belongings of Arantor, I would have you bring the sword to me. It is my belonging, and the lone thing I prize in the world. If you do this, you can take whatever other trinkets Arantor had and leave this realm through the portal in peace. What say you?"

He nods away from the camp, clearly indicating that the group should discuss away from Kas.

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

Agon finally caught up with his companions, breathless from his run through the shantytown. He was the last to arrive, but still heard most of the conversation. He listened intently, both to their new companions and the infamous vampire.

Deep in thought, he followed as the group stepped aside to discuss privately.

"I don't like this," he began bluntly. "Even if all he said is true" he said, his tone doubtful, "there is a lot he is not saying. Why does he want the sword so much ? If it is the key we need to open the portal, and he knows so, he certainly did not mention it. Also, why does he not seem interested in leaving this place through the portal we're seeking ?"

The wizard paused, seemingly hesistant. "I am very reluctant to trust him, let alone help him. But... this place does not simply make betrayal more likely, I fear it also exerts its influence on any betrayer - maybe strong enough to trap one in this land permanently." He met each of his companions' eyes in turn. "No matter what we decide, we should word our 'deal', if any, very carefully..." he warned.

In reply to Agon (msg # 185):

Gromley looked back at the vampire lord, and then telepathically sent his words to the other. He did not know if the foe had sharp ears, but he was not taking any chances. The soul thief ran for a reason, yes? That should be our first bargaining chip. If he wants to treat with us-we need to know why she ran to him to hide behind her vampire lord.

As Gromley's voice echoed inside his skull, the dwarf nodded in agreement.  "An' I certainly agree wi' you, ma wee fellah"
