Bahamut leads you back where you find yourselves back on the Plane of Fire.

Bahamut takes you to the ramparts near the main gate to the City of Brass. All around is a storm of activity: efreet workers repairing walls, Bahamut’s soldiers scurrying from errand to errand—and the air above you is positively thick with metallic dragons soaring and swooping.

Standing on an intact section of wall, Bahamut takes the aspect of a kindly old man with long white hair. He wears robes that appear to be made of liquid platinum, and orbiting him like a halo are seven yellow canaries.

“Hail, heroes,” Bahamut intones. “Though the cost was high, together we’ve dealt the Dragon Queen a grievous blow. Yet she lurks in Tytherion, and Tiamat will certainly rise again. Unless . . .

“Unless you can perform one final deed for me, for our army, and indeed, for all those who reject evil.”

He smiles grimly.

“My draconic children favor elegant turns of phrase, but I’ll be blunt: I want you to kill Tiamat. Not her aspect, not her avatar, but the deity herself. Too long has her evil spread through the universe. Too long have she and I fought each other to a standstill. I believe I can get you to the vicinity of her lair. And there is such power within you . . . If anyone can defeat Tiamat in lethal battle, it is you.

“As you know, I’m acutely aware of what it takes to kill a god. Among those who answered our call here in the City of Brass, no one matches your power. Look at the army you see before you. Other than you, no one here would be more than a momentary annoyance to Tiamat.

“Only a small group can reach Tiamat at this crucial moment. Her forces are in disarray, fleeing the Dragon Queen’s wrath and fighting one another. She has lost control of most of her followers. But look at my army. It’s in no shape to close ranks and march on Tytherion, either. It would take a miracle for us to recover, reorganize, and reequip for another battle.

“Miracles are what I do, but even if you assume that miracle, then you have a shining army marching on Tiamat’s lair. And when we march, Tiamat’s dispersed, distracted forces will have a common foe to unite against. You see where I’m leading this?”

Martha cracks her knuckles and cackles. 'At last - we kill the whore. I won't be doing this for you, Bahamut; I'm doing it for me. I've been planning this for years and I can confidently declare that I am finally ready for the task, alongside my boys.'

Martha is positively glowing with excitement at the chance to finally extract her revenge on her arch-nemesis. Of course, she's still unaware of her possible biological link to the evil goddess, whereas (if there were one) Bahamut would undoubtedly know.

Gromley had come a long way to finally end the threat of the Dragon Queen. Granted he always thought the platinum dragon himself would do the...honors. He just sighed, and shrugged. "Well, granted I am no mortal, but I am also no god...but if she is weak enough I suppose I can do what I can do."

Harald smiled.

 "And thus we enter the record books.  Succeed or fail there can and will be nothing greater than this."

Darratheir had waited this moment for years. He could finally avenge his tribe and many others by killing Tiamat and yet, he was reluctant to accomplish this task and he knew well why his feeling had changed.

Stepping forward, he looked at Bahamut's form straight in the eyes. "With all the respect due to a god..." He then looked behind him at his group of companions "Or due to you all, my friends, I can't let you do this." His head turned back toward the Dragon god, he continued. "The balance between Tiamat and you must be preserved. And I will fight whomever will try to kill her just like I fought those who wanted your death."

He stopped for a few seconds, looking at the Arrow of Fate in his hand. "I have been blind for too long, my only envy being to kill the Dragon Queen. But I have been chosen by this artifact, a part of Io himself and I can't betray it. I will gladly continue to serve you if you wish. But as long as your plans invole Tiamat's death, I will stand before you and anyone willing to break the balance of power."

Bahamut considers. "Very well. I will make you an offer. If you defeat Tiamat, I will step down as a god, ceding my power. The balance will be restored--I will be mortal and eventually die, albeit chronologically after Tiamat. Our clerics will both have to find alternative gods, and the reign of dragon-gods will be at an end. What say you to that?"

Martha raises her hand high in the air, and laughs at it.

'Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha'

She is so delirious with joy she can't stop cackling. She just keeps looking at her claw-formed hand. This is the greatest moment in her life. She hates the dragon gods.

Considering Bahamut's offer, Darratheir took a few moments to answer. "I am the instrument of the Arrow of Fate. If this compromise please it, then I will accept it. But the decision is not mine to take."

Then he opened his mind, trying to get some advice from the artifact.

Sonliin gasped at the notion of Bahamut stepping down. "I disagree with Bahamut stepping down but that is his own decision, and it was freely offered. However, that option is not available unless we defeat her." he said, while pacing the room.

"Martha, you have been driven by your hatred of Tiamat, due to the consequences of your own actions while serving her. While Bahamut offered to step down, nowhere did he mention as to whom the mantle might be given. For all I know, your punishment for your actions while serving her, it might be to care and lead the very creatures you hate." Sonliin said, with an ear to ear grin.

"The problem I see is that Nature, along with creatures of intelligence, abhor a vacuum. The former clerics of Tiamat, once the shock of her defeat is felt, the more ardent followers will work to bring her back before they seek anyone that will take them in. For all we know, as a contingency, the five eldest female dragons of her various colors might morph into a new one of her to continue her power. We will not know until then, but she must be defeated."

"Darratheir, by calling yourself "an instrument of the Arrow of Fate", you seek to absolve yourself of the responsibility of your own actions by allowing the arrow to control you. We are all in this of our own freewill. We must be united in this endeavor. I will join in the fight, of my own freewill." he said.

Agon stayed silent for a long while, his massive intellect spinning through the implications of the death of one god, and the retirement of another.  Not even with a thousand years could he foresee how this would change the multiverse.

"Sonliin, you grasp the essence of this quest.  We mortals may appear insignificant against the multiverse, but our ability to choose freely and to grow make us great.  Could any of us, when we were children and young adventurers, imagine striding across the planes, making plans with gods, wielding artifacts from the Dawn War?"

"Tiamat has shown herself not just evil, but an existential threat in her recklessness. I am glad to be part of a mission to destroy her."

Martha stops laughing abruptly at Sonliin's words. 'You have a dark sense of humour for a paladin' she throws out, but she is carefully considering what he said. 'But the essence of what you say is true. I will keep it in mind.'

Zog blinks in shock at this turn of events and says nothing. In truth, he does not know what to say. The matters at hand were really beyond his comprehension. He had held Bahamut in high esteem for so long that the thought of working for another, god or mortal, was a bit foreign. However, changelings are adaptable, and his mind already began pursuing alternate futures...

"More than it's instrument, I am it's soldier." corrected the Dragonborn after Sonliin's observation. "As you say, we are all here of our own will and so I am. But my blind goal as changed. The Arrow of Fate opened my mind and thought this endless war might survive us, it is necessary that a balance exists. However, if Bahamut steps down as he promises in exchange of Tiamat's death, I will continue with you on this quest we have begun long ago."

And to himself, he added mentally : "And I will take over Tiamat's reign to fight against Bahamut if he ever lied to us."

Bahamut laughs lightly. "You seem to forget that I am telepathic, Darratheir."  He then looks very seriously at him. "I cannot promise you that i will cease to be immortal or powerful, Darratheir. But I will give up my divinity. I am Bahamut. My word is my standard. If you doubt that here and now, after everything I have done and endured, then you will draw the Arrow and use it to strike me down first, here and now. Do you accept my word, or must I challenge you?" The old man speaks with a superhuman force but with words that do not compel the mortal Darratheir in any way. It is an honest inquiry.

He also shoots the rest of a party a look warning them to not interfere.

Gromley seems ready to interfere, but stands down when he notices the look. Needless to say, the idea of balance, gods, and fate never much appealed to him. Granted he wanted to enjoy himself for the rest of his immortal existence, but Tiamat had gotten in the way of such things-as well as killing his friends. He wanted to speak up about Darratheir's ultimatum, but in the end it was the Dragon's choice, not Gromley's.

Sonliin smiled back at Martha. "One never knows that the Gods have in store for us, Martha." he said  "Some are concerned for us, while in others, we are mere play toys. It goes back to that issue of freewill. Many people have caused harm to others by saying that they were doing their misdeeds in the name of some god or government.  However, many times it was done for their own selfish reasons. Greed and power are the top two." he added.

Sonliin's eyebrows arched upwards in surprise at Bahamut's statement. The paladin stepped backwards, his hands palms outward and hands just above his shoulders. "I do not know what you had thought Darratheir but this is between the two of you. I do not have a dog in this fight."

After Bahamut's last offer, Darratheir grinned. "A challenge might sound like a good idea." And then, bowing before the God, he added : "But that will have to wait for another time. We have a Dragon Queen to kill first."

The Platinum Dragon could clearly understand that the Dragonborn had accepted the conditions of their arrangement. He would fight along Bahamut's forces as long as necessary and if the balance of power was not broken.

Zog's eyes narrowed at this last exchange. There may have to be a reckoning with other members of his group later. He did not much like their attitudes, and he definitely did not like how this little bit of Io was shaping the mind of the dragonborn. However, he had learned not to indulge petty whims over the course of much of his life; he would not start now.

"So let it be done," he says. "What do we do next, lord Bahamut?"

Harald had nothing to say but just waited patiently for the scene to play out.

That said he was happy that all concerned were willing to continue.

Bahamut nods and begins the briefing. “I ask you to do what my army cannot—what I myself cannot. Meet my agent in Tytherion, travel to Tiamat’s Lair, and slay her utterly. Her stronghold is being looted by her own rapacious dragons, and you should have little difficulty assailing what would otherwise be an impregnable fortress. Carve your way through what remains of Tiamat’s guards however you must. Slay her on the spot. Then I will know and surrender my power, and the world will be better off without dragon-gods."

He sighs, then continues. “I can send you to Tytherion to the general area of Tiamat’s Lair. I do not know details of her demesne, the Caverns of Fiery Splendor. That’s where Berath comes in.

“Ah, Berath . . . a ghost who haunts the caverns of Tytherion and is as loyal to me beyond
the grave as he was in life. He can guide you through the Caverns of Fiery Splendor and to the very gates of Tiamat’s inner lair. I’ve contacted him, and he’s expecting you to meet him at the main entrance to the Caverns of Fiery Splendor.

“Centuries ago, a paladin named Berath . . . one of my most beloved servants . . . grew weary of striving against the Dragon Queen’s minions. He’d earned a little weariness after his hundredth dragon slain, I suppose. He gathered a host that almost rivaled the army we had here, and against my wishes led a crusade into the Caverns of Fiery Splendor. I wish I’d done more to stop him, but I could fault neither his ability nor his resolute purpose. Tiamat was well prepared against Berath’s crusade, and none of the paladins under his banner escaped. I mourned Berath’s loss—as did all who follow me— and relegated his crusade to a sad chapter of history.

“But recently—perhaps because of Tiamat’s current troubles—Berath’s ghost contacted me. I see the doubt on your faces, but I’m sure it’s him and he’s still loyal. There are certain bonds between faithful worshipper and god that cannot be subverted. Berath took great joy when he learned that you would be finishing the job that he started.”

“Tiamat risked much when she came here, stripping her stronghold of most of its armed might. Few of those dragons survived the battle, much less returned to Tytherion. Of the remainder, we have reliable reports—including from Berath—that Tiamat’s tendency of rule through fear and avarice doesn’t work when her lackeys doubt her power and her ability to pay. Many simply fled, waiting to see which way the proverbial wind is blowing. Others used the crisis as an opportunity to settle old scores with one another, to advance in the ranks by killing their superiors, or simply to loot Tiamat’s treasury. Because Tiamat is the goddess of greed, I imagine it’s quite a treasury.

“Undoubtedly there are those who remain loyal to Tiamat and those who cannot escape her watchful eyes. If they were numerous or powerful, we wouldn’t be seeing this sort of upheaval among Tiamat’s followers—upheaval that’s spreading across all planes.

“If you need to make a tactical retreat, you can come back here or to a citadel of your choosing. Berath may have scouted out a temporary shelter. Do not tarry overlong before pressing onward, however. Every hour you delay is an hour Tiamat will use to marshal her remaining force and persuade her followers that she’s as powerful as ever.

“If you must take time to prepare, so be it. You are uniquely suited to this task, and I can’t call on anyone else with your potence. But know this: Each of Tiamat’s five heads is whispering, threatening, browbeating, pleading, and bargaining with her far-flung followers and allies to come to her aid. The more you delay, the stronger she grows.

 “As I said, even my most powerful dragons cannot match your power. And if they did, their presence would certainly draw every chromatic dragon from across the plane. In my divine wisdom, adding anyone else would attract attention without actually helping you kill Tiamat. With one exception . . .

“As I ponder your question, something occurs to me. I’m going to do something I’ve never done before. Each of you, take one of these canaries. Just as I’m no ordinary old man, so too are these not ordinary canaries. The canaries will flitter about until you ask for their aid. Then one will transform into a gold dragon that will fight on your behalf for a minute or two—until the magic that transformed them draws them back to me.

"Any questions?"

Darratheir had nothing to add to this briefing. He then waited patiently in case someone else had questions to ask.

What secrets might Berath know?  A ghost of a paladin that had haunted Tiamat's keep for centuries?  Agon was itching to find out.  "The truth prevails where an army fails." Agon said. "We will not learn from Berath's mistakes."

Zog bows politely. "I am ready to go."

"Actually, one can learn a lot from failure. Did they have the battlefield against them? How powerful were the defenses? Thing's like that can be learned so one can avoid a repeat." Sonliin said.

For once Martha looks impressed. 'Berath killed a hundred dragons. That's a worthy servant Bahamut. I respect him. We will meet him, but I will also offer him our aid.

If he is still a ghost, he must have some lingering unfinished business. I will ask him if we can help him find peace. Any killer of Tiamat's dragons is worthy of that.

After that, we will destroy Tiamat.' This part she says grimly, with evil intent.

The party prepares for their trip. As they do, something interesting happens: a visit from a mysterious stranger. An ordinary efreet delivers a short, anonymous letter to the heroes. It states:

Zog steps up discreetly to the efreet. "Were you paid to deliver this to us, or do you deliver this to us of your free will?" Disguised as a human, he smiles an innocuous smile.

Martha racks her brain to remember if that word has any connection to the divines.

Darratheir looked at the efreet when he came to deliver his message. Why could they need help? Keeping his thoughts for himself, he would stay alert as this could be a trap.

The efreet smiles. "Indeed: a yuan-ti gave him the letter and a thousand gold coins, with instructions to keep the money and deliver the letter. I know nor desire to know anything further."

He bows. "If you will excuse me." He goes to leave.

Zog steps in front of the fellow. "How much for you to physically identify your contact?" he asks slyly.

He takes some of your money and Zog tries to find the contact, but to no avail: the yuan-ti in question left the city and probably the plane within a half-hour of paying the efreet. You will have to play out the mystery elsewhere.

When you are ready, Agon performs a Planar Portal ritual to send you to Tytherion. Through the portal you see, shimmering through the portal, a rocky desert with red-limned volcanic peaks in the distance. You cannot make out size or color through the haze, but you can see distinctly draconic silhouettes in the sky.

You step into the portal. Emerging from the twilight skies above you are five sailing ships. Lightning coruscates around their hulls. Each one has a bulbous projector of some sort on its prow, just below where its figurehead would be. They swoop toward you, and you can make out sailors manning ballistae on the deck. There is no doubt that the sailors are dragonborn.

Religion check to identify the ships.

Agon utters words of power and suddenly everyone in the party feels light on their feet!! Agon then soars into the air and lands on top of one of the cliffs.

The ships begin to move. Two of them wheel around and bombard the collected group of enemies on the ground with sonic blasts! With the exception of Martha, most of the collected party doesn’t even feel the damage. Martha is a little rattled, though.

A moves and attacks Martha with its Thunder-Echo Projector, hitting Martha (AC 45) for 21 thunder. Secondary attack hits Reflex of Zog, Darratheir and Sonliin for 18 thunder missing Harald. B moves and attacks Martha, hitting her (AC 47) for 26 thunder. Secondary attack hits Reflex defense of Zog, Darratheir and Harald for 19 thunder.

NOTE: All ships are technically the same distance from the party due to altitude—consider each of them 20 squares away. North-south positioning is important for cover and, of course, if you engage them in melee.

Zog cries aloud in triumph, something the party doesn't hear much. He swoops into the air and aims his hands at the two ships on his left. He blasts both and then delivers a quick follow-up blast on the further one, just for good measure. The air elementalist is in the air!

Fly 16, use Action Point to attack A and E with Elemental Bolt + Elemental Escalation. HIts both, A takes 81 lightning and is vulnerable 3 to my attacks and E takes 75 and is vulnerable 3 to my attacks. Minor for Quickened Spellcasting on E, hits using Educated Action re-roll for 64 hp with feat bonus and vulnerability.

Gromley sends forth his psionic awareness, and then flies behind one of the towers to block him from view. Using his remote sensing ability, he sends one of the ships into a pocket dimension. Thus banishing it for a time. However, its crew may not be transported with it...

Feeling he could now fly on his own, Darratheir jubilated. Not knowing if this feeling of plenitude was due to the Arrow of Fate or from something hidden in his ancient Dragon blood, he started to follow Harald and as he came closer to him, he tried to yell at him (If that's needed to be heard). "Which one do you want to take down? We can't let all the fun to these spell casters, can we?"

As Darratheir soars into the air and Gromley banishes one of the ships, the dragonborn crews of their ships are faced with a peculiar problem: several small targets who appear to be real threats. They settle on Zog and blast away at him. hitting him with thunder, though to their surprise they do not even manage to wound him yet.

C-E target Zog with Thunder Echo Projectors at Zog; all hit for 22, 18 and 20 thunder respectively. E also single-moves.

Bloody hell Agon - what have you done now!

Martha grumpily flies across the valley, one leg kicking into the air the entire time as if attacking some invisible monster, and drops beside the wizard. Her dress ends up over her head and her knickers are on show.

On the cliff, she pushes down her dress and scowls at the wizard. Surely you have a 'summon pretty flying swans' spell or something. How the hell am I supposed to become a god if everyone sees my underwear Agon?

Unimpressed, she divinely heals Zog, and decides this is the ideal time to arrange her lovely sundial on the cliff. It reflects the sunlight, which seems to chill a little. Martha glares at the sun and says nothing.

Zog shouts, "Thank you Martha!" before resuming his blasting of the two ships that he targeted prior. These blasts leave the crews surrounded in a haze of swirling air that block their line of sight beyond the ships!

As if that was not enough, The ship he had banished before reappears-only to sail into its own cliff on the other side of the battlefield.

One of the ships that was hit by Zog rights itself and fires at Zog's last known location. They get lucky, winging the elementalist and blasting Darratheir in the shockwave. Another ship combines fire and hits Zog and Darratheir again. Sonliin manages to dodge the shockwave from both ships.

E hits Zog even with blind penalty for 21 thunder, and C hits Zog for 14 thunder. Darratheir gets hit by the effect attack for 17 and 19 hp respectively.

D fails its save to reappear.

Sonliin headed through the air, getting closer to the attacking ships. Casting a glance at the farthest vessel, it suddenly shuddered as if it had been frozen in time. With a wave of his warhammer, another one winked out of existence for the moment.

One of the unscathed Dominion ships has come close to the rocks, and Martha advances on it before it can turn and fire on Agon behind it. She channels a long blade of pure light and sweeps it across the ship’s magical cannons, trying to jam them up long enough to make the ship useless.

The severely messed-up ship tries and fails to blast Zog. It does catch Darratheir in a shockwave, though, bruising him. Meanwhile, the ship next to Martha tries to escape her and then blasts at her. She takes the blast of thunder in stride.

A misses Zog, but its secondary burst 5 hits Darratheir for 19 thunder damage. B crawls away from Martha, provoking an OA; it then hits Martha for 22 thunder. Nobody is hit by the area effect. It fails its save vs. the prone/ongoing damage.

Harald scanned the area looking for threats but found nothing too serious.  Rather than resort to his main powers he decided to just keep up the pressure on his first target.

Head down he careered across the sky and smashed his hammer into the enemy.

Gromley does several things while staying behind cover. He moves Martha to a place of safety behind the towers. He has his awareness target one ship with a space portal, smashing it while doing so. Finally, he has the badly damaged vessel move by the power of of his mind, making it fly backwards...and then sending it crashing fowards into the cliffside.

After the closest ship to him was destroyed, Darratheir sees no immediate action he could perform. Instead, he waits for the reappearance of one of the ships, at an approximate position close to where it would be.

Move action: Move closer to where E should reappear.

One of the remaining ships lists, having been warped out of time by Sonliin. Another, banished from this space, reappears in the place where it disappeared. A third reappears as well, swarming with elemental energies. Its crew at least has the presence of mind to point their cannon at Darratheir, the immanent threat, but the blast flies wide and explodes into air.

C is stunned. D makes its save vs. Sequestered and reappears. E reappears, taking 20 damage of various kinds. E attacks Darratheir and misses, and fails its save vs. ongoing.

Seeing Darratheir--a scary wrecking-machine of a dragonborn--moving toward the heavily-damaged ship, the listing ship fires at him as well, winging him as thunder explodes around him. Yet he flies on with no apparent wounds!!

Zog flies a bit closer and lobs a blast of lightning at the closest ship, hoping to drive it closer to destruction. He privately found it amusing that his little blasts of lightning seemed to have more impact that the massive thunder blasts from the ship!

Fly to current position, hit E for 56 lightning and vulnerable 3 to my elemental attacks until EOMNT. (No elemental escalation--no second target is close enough.)

Just like Harald, Darratheir had to run to make contact with another ship. Ignoring the lightning that hurt him as he came closer, he charged the ship from far away to try and give more impact to his attack.

The dragon board aboard attack Harald madly, with their cutlasses, but even a swarm of them does not bother the doughty dwarf. The ship then tries to inch away, but the fighter is ready. With one more mighty blow, he splits its main beam at the bottom and the ship cracks in half like an egg. Dragonborn fall from the sky, screaming.

The other ship does not reappear yet...

Sonlinn using a magic item, closed the gap to the one foe that was in sight. Saying a prayer, a burst of light illuminated the foe as he summoned up a storm. A blast of thunder then shook the vessel from stem to stern, causing it to become heavily damaged.

Harald flew around, his eyes peeled for anything of interest.  After a few moments his eyes alighted on a normal looking axe.  Normal looking but which somehow seemed to call to him.  He stuffed his jagged axe into his pack and gave his new acquisition a few tentative swings...

Oh Boy!  That felt good!  He growled as he looked around for something living to test it on but all he saw were his companions...pity!

Martha checks on all her boys to make sure they are ok, scoffing at Gromley's concern. 'Honestly its nothing, a little cut. With you boys here the boats never had a chance. I barely even got into the fight: Agon kept me safe.' She doesn't look entirely happy at this.

Rummaging through the wreckage she finally fins what she was looking for. 'Here it is: the arcane mechanism behind the flying boat. This crystal propeller can easily be re-purposed to fit onto a sundial and make it fly!'

Agon cautioned as drifted to the ground.  He searched among the wreckage of one of the ships, and found what remained of the arcane engines that kept it aloft. "Crude, but the raw energy in these shards is quite impressive.  I can make use of it.

He fixed the crystals to his robe with quick applications of mending magic. A delicate semi-organic silvery tracery linked the crystals together. He walked forward briskly, and then suddenly took to the air, his robe flapping behind him. Agon landed a good 50' away from where he took off. <purple>"Still not enough to match a dragon in the air, but it's a good start."</purple

OOC: Upgrading my armor to a +6 Mantle of the Seven Winds, which lets me Fly my speed, but if I don't end my turn on a solid surface I fall.

I don't think anyone will need to spend more than one surge to heal to full at this point, but if you do, do not do so--I believe people have some healing powers left (Gromley).

Digging through the rubble, Sonliin found a ring that he liked. "This looks interesting. he said as he took off one of his rings and replaced it with the new one.

No rest. Packing away the Ring of Borrowed Spells

Gromley looks through some of the wreckage, and finds a band of pure shadow that fits around a finger. He then rests with the others.

As soon as you are done with the ships, something interesting happens. There’s a momentary shimmer in the air, and the translucent form of a ghostly human in battered plate armor and a dragon-helm appears. “I am Berath,” it says, “and your coming was foretold by no less than a vision from the Platinum Dragon himself. Together, let us complete the holiest of all crusades! Onward!”

The walk to Tiamat's home takes a bit of time, and the ghost tells you much of himself. During the conversation, Berath tells the tale of his crusade and describes his soldiers whittled down by ambush after ambush within the Caverns of Fiery Splendor. At Berath’s last stand, a small side cavern was nearly covered by a collapsing wall and now would make a disguised base for the characters—especially if they inscribe a portal circle there.

Berath can take the heroes to the beginning of the tunnel that leads directly to the fountain chamber, but he’s never been inside—because he can’t go inside. In some cosmic sense, he won’t let himself do as a ghost what he could not accomplish in life. The Caverns of Fiery Splendor aren’t empty....

Three or more of you of you can describe Heroic or Paragon-level foes that you meet inside the caverns. If three of you complete this before Monday, everyone gets two Bennies!

Crossing into the Caverns of Fiery Splendor, a deathknight appeared in a shadowy chamber. Lurking in the shadows, a pair of abyssal ghoul's slipped forward to pick off a target that presented itself while a pair of sword wraiths teamed up to do the same. The group quickly dispatched them. Martha started the onslaught by causing severe burns on the foes from her blast of radiance.  Agon, Zog and Gromley cast spells to disrupt them while Darratheir, Harald and Sonliin preceded to attack in a very one sided battle.

Tiamat's empire of cruelty ran on slaves, and further in Caverns of Firey Splendor, the party chanced on a caravan of neogi slavers. Strange insectoid beings, resembling hairy spiders with long segmented necks and clawed mouths, the neogi shepherded along a throng of miserable humanoids from across the planes. Darrathier and Harald hit the guards like thunderbolts, while the casters laid down a rapid covering fire.  The neogi barely had time to level their weapons, before the Far Realms slavers were utterly annihilated.

Agon tore open a rift in realities, a portal that lead back to the City of Brass. Once the epicenter of the cosmic slave trade, the newly liberated City of Brass was now a bastion of freedom.

Deeper inside the cavern, the party travels through Tiamat’s Breeding Caverns, the place where she experiments combining various life forms, and sometimes machines, into disgusting monsters. This is where the failed experiments live: the dogs with four heads but no eyes; the frogs with shark jaws, and the dragons bred with turkeys. This diseased, broken critters fill the floor, which is all covered in insects feeding on the rotten failures; everything glistening and crawling and slimy and putrid. The worst part is the moaning of the poor animals, and it sounds like a cacophonous symphony of misery.

The team blazes a path of fire through the deformed mass, swatting aside the flying ones and stamping on the bloated insects impervious to flame. Covered in guck and blood, they are exhausted when they finally reach the other side.

Short rest taken. Cloak of Courage cast on the party (HS temp hps).

The party moves along, casually unleashing deeds that would make a mortal famous anywhere else. They are only stopped significantly when a beautiful yuan-ti woman steps out of hiding. She must be quite the stealthy one indeed, to sneak up on this group. She is dressed entirely in black and is all alone.

"What is the password?" she asks simply.

Zog cocks his head, looking at this strange woman. "Chuhirimasté," he says simply.

The yuan-ti woman bows to you, smiling.  “Let’s get you inside so you can confront the Dragon Queen.” She introduces herself as Theel.

Theel hasn’t been beyond the fountain chamber, but she can warn you that disintegration beams emerge from the eyes of the dragon-head doorways. Furthermore, she suggests that the magic of each dragon head is tied to whatever lives beyond the doorway—and whatever that is, it isn’t Tiamat herself, because she’s on a platform floating above the fountain chamber.

“The disintegtratorsssss . . . are potent indeed. They nearly ssssslew me in a flash when I tried tampering with them. But my resssssearch indicates that if you slay whatever lays beyond each dragon-mouth, it’ll disssssable the dragoneyesssss.”

Barath looks askance at this individual but tolerates her presence as you press inwards to the very gates of Tiamat's lair. You boldly open them!

This richly appointed room has a mosaic done in black pearl winding a serpentine pattern across the white marble floor. To the right and left are balconies—one with pews and the other a bare platform. There are two sets of double doors at the far end of the room and a dais in the center that glitters with gold and platinum coins scattered across it.

A dragonborn in finely embroidered purple robes stands at the far end of the mosaic, just at the edge of the dais. There has to be a small fortune in coins on that dais—tens of thousands of coins. He looks at you solemnly. "You have come a long way to die, mortals," he growls.

Roll initiative. If you beat a 36, you go before Q.

The dragonborn walks onto the twisting floor mosaic. “Behold the shard of annihilation!” he calls out. Something starts forming at the base of the dais--something made of a black so deep that it seems to draw your eyes inward.

Not that he gives the party the luxury of focusing on the shard; he opens his mouth and spits a ball of lightning that falls upon the party like a lightning storm, singing all of them.

Move, then burst 4 centered on Darratheir targeting all the party members. Zog gets cover from the attack, not that it does him much good: it hits Agon, Martha, Zog and Darratheir for 30 lightning (minus 10 lightning for Zog’s resistance) and does 15 miss damage on Harald, Gromley and Sonliin.

Sonliin watched as lightning danced around him, not feeling any effect from it.

Not liking the shard of annihilation, he figured that the best thing was to not be near it. "My turn!" A blast of arcane energy erupted around the dragonborn as time was sucked away . The paladin started to crackle with thunder and lighting as he pointed his warhammer towards it. Causing a bolt of lightning to strike the foe the air genasi appeared next to him, followed by a mighty thunderclap as the warhammer hit Q.

"Ah don’t like they mosaics” grunted Harald.  It was obvious that the doughty warrior was concerned as a fleeting thought crossed his face.  But then he smiled.

“Ah!  Ah don’t know if this will work but it’s worth a wee go.”

Quickly he activated his Spectral armour and faded slightly from sight.  But he was not finished!   Somehow he ‘phased' across the room, ending up a short distance from the dragonborn.

“Hello!” he said  “Ah’m Harald.  And Ah'm no' pleased tae see ye!” And with that he edged forward slightly and attacked...Once and then again, his axe flashed through the air.

Following his comrades, Darratheir reached the other Dragonborn in a single jump. Almost instantly, he then stroke both with his blade and a powerful shout to wound both his enemy's mind and body. "You choose to follow the wrong dragon and you will pay for that."

“Are you still standin’?”  Harald sounded both aggrieved and surprised that the dragonborn was still on his feet.  “Right!  Try this on for size!”

The dwarf drew back his stout arm and brought his axe down with devastating force.
