Chapter 7 -- Last Breath of the Dragon Queen

For once Martha looks impressed. 'Berath killed a hundred dragons. That's a worthy servant Bahamut. I respect him. We will meet him, but I will also offer him our aid.

If he is still a ghost, he must have some lingering unfinished business. I will ask him if we can help him find peace. Any killer of Tiamat's dragons is worthy of that.

After that, we will destroy Tiamat.' This part she says grimly, with evil intent.

Chapter 7 -- Last Breath of the Dragon Queen

The party prepares for their trip. As they do, something interesting happens: a visit from a mysterious stranger. An ordinary efreet delivers a short, anonymous letter to the heroes. It states:

Darratheir looked at the efreet when he came to deliver his message. Why could they need help? Keeping his thoughts for himself, he would stay alert as this could be a trap.

He takes some of your money and Zog tries to find the contact, but to no avail: the yuan-ti in question left the city and probably the plane within a half-hour of paying the efreet. You will have to play out the mystery elsewhere.

When you are ready, Agon performs a Planar Portal ritual to send you to Tytherion. Through the portal you see, shimmering through the portal, a rocky desert with red-limned volcanic peaks in the distance. You cannot make out size or color through the haze, but you can see distinctly draconic silhouettes in the sky.

You step into the portal. Emerging from the twilight skies above you are five sailing ships. Lightning coruscates around their hulls. Each one has a bulbous projector of some sort on its prow, just below where its figurehead would be. They swoop toward you, and you can make out sailors manning ballistae on the deck. There is no doubt that the sailors are dragonborn.

Religion check to identify the ships.

ROLL INITIATIVE. If you beat a 34, you can post an action.

NOTE THE SCALE OF THE MAP. Every square is really 2 squares for movement.

Features of the Area:
Illumination: Bright diffuse light.
Towers: These provide superior cover, but they automatically take damage whenever someone within 5 squares gets hit with a thunder-echo projector. They collapse when they’ve taken 50 damage, dealing 5d10 damage to anyone inside them. Those squares are then filled with rubble and count as difficult terrain.
Crenellated Walls: Provide cover, except from dominion ships overhead and less than 5 squares away horizontally. Like the towers, the walls are vul- nerable to the thunder-echo projector. Each square of wall crumbles and collapses when it takes 25 thunder damage. This doesn’t damage adjacent creatures, but it eliminates the cover and renders that square diffi- cult terrain.
Cliffs: 30 feet high; Athletics DC 25 to climb.
Crater: Difficult terrain inside the crater. The craters provide cover, except from dominion ships overhead and less than 5 squares away horizontally.
Dragon Carcass: Difficult terrain.

Zog moves quickly out of a bomb radius. He has a bad feeling about this.

Initiative 30. If I don’t have the highest initiative, I can move up to my speed before anyone else; moved 2 squares accordingly.

Agon utters words of power and suddenly everyone in the party feels light on their feet!! Agon then soars into the air and lands on top of one of the cliffs.


EDIT: Minor: Trick of Knowledge +60! +2 to all Defenses, +2 to Arcane Attacks, +5 to saving throws.


Cast Mass Fly--EVERYONE GAINS A FLY SPEED OF 8. Fly to the top of one of the cliffs.

The ships begin to move. Two of them wheel around and bombard the collected group of enemies on the ground with sonic blasts! With the exception of Martha, most of the collected party doesn’t even feel the damage. Martha is a little rattled, though.

A moves and attacks Martha with its Thunder-Echo Projector, hitting Martha (AC 45) for 21 thunder. Secondary attack hits Reflex of Zog, Darratheir and Sonliin for 18 thunder missing Harald. B moves and attacks Martha, hitting her (AC 47) for 26 thunder. Secondary attack hits Reflex defense of Zog, Darratheir and Harald for 19 thunder.

NOTE: All ships are technically the same distance from the party due to altitude—consider each of them 20 squares away. North-south positioning is important for cover and, of course, if you engage them in melee.

NOTE: YOU ARE ALL CAPABLE OF FLYING. Anyone who acts like they can’t fly will lose a Benny. Read these updates :-)

Zog cries aloud in triumph, something the party doesn't hear much. He swoops into the air and aims his hands at the two ships on his left. He blasts both and then delivers a quick follow-up blast on the further one, just for good measure. The air elementalist is in the air!

Fly 16, use Action Point to attack A and E with Elemental Bolt + Elemental Escalation. HIts both, A takes 81 lightning and is vulnerable 3 to my attacks and E takes 75 and is vulnerable 3 to my attacks. Minor for Quickened Spellcasting on E, hits using Educated Action re-roll for 64 hp with feat bonus and vulnerability.

Harald was a very melee-orientated sort of dwarf but there were times, such as now, when he wished he had looked into ranged attacks a little more.

Hammer in hand he took off and headed towards one of the ships above.  It would probably take some time but what else was there to do?

Zog's blasts of lightning score solid hits on both ships; the crews roar and scramble as their ships come under fire greater than they would have expected from any mortal! They almost ignore the lone flying dwarf.

Gromley sends forth his psionic awareness, and then flies behind one of the towers to block him from view. Using his remote sensing ability, he sends one of the ships into a pocket dimension. Thus banishing it for a time. However, its crew may not be transported with it...

11:47, Today: Gromley Underhill rolled 41 using 1d20+31 with rolls of 10.  Space Vortex on ship B, 6 psi points. Vs reflex. With combat advantage from Reactive Stealth, total is 43, thus hitting the ship.

11:55, Today: Gromley Underhill rolled 25 using 2d12+14 with rolls of 10,1.  Force Damage on ship B. Ship is banished until end of my next turn, where ever I can see.

Feeling he could now fly on his own, Darratheir jubilated. Not knowing if this feeling of plenitude was due to the Arrow of Fate or from something hidden in his ancient Dragon blood, he started to follow Harald and as he came closer to him, he tried to yell at him (If that's needed to be heard). "Which one do you want to take down? We can't let all the fun to these spell casters, can we?"

As Darratheir soars into the air and Gromley banishes one of the ships, the dragonborn crews of their ships are faced with a peculiar problem: several small targets who appear to be real threats. They settle on Zog and blast away at him. hitting him with thunder, though to their surprise they do not even manage to wound him yet.

C-E target Zog with Thunder Echo Projectors at Zog; all hit for 22, 18 and 20 thunder respectively. E also single-moves.

Sonliin is up! Martha and Agon, do NOT act yet, please.
