Added Perk "Tax Free".  I'll most likely spend four points to increase Archery by 1 and keep the the others unspent, but I'd prefer to make that decision after learning the outcome of surgery or other healing on the crippled leg.

Yeah.

I just reread our very early discussion about "[1] Civil Servant (Courtesy Rank)" and I see it does not come with the Tax Free... I thought it did.  No problem, adding Tax Free Perk and thinking about where to spend 6 points...

That will get you +15% on the total, for an equivalent worth of 55% based on 40% for status 0 average income

Okay, so you aren't using the standard DF 2 Dungeons loot rules.  Noted.

Narrator:
possible extra pay going to Charlene, Clarence, Masugatan

Charlene and Clarence come out of Jareth's share as previously negotiated.  Masugatan will get another $20 (one silver) from Jareth as well.

Jareth will request getting the $5 in change to recompense his hiring of Masugatan.

So, does it cost us $150 a week to live in town?  I thought the 1 CP Guild Membership gave us free housing (floor space to sleep on) and two meals a day?

We're also playing Dungeon Fantasy which has it's own set of rules.  One of which is $150 a week, Wealth works differently, no Status, etc.

Jareth can have the extra $5, since he paid for the others.

Thumbs up.

If only it came anywhere close to what he paid.  But then they were his hirelings, so his responsibility.

[EDIT]
I also looked at it this way:  Jareth isn't strong enough to haul loot and he's really terrible in combat, so paying money to shore up those two weaknesses was worth it!

Not sure it works that way.  I think it was meant as "Spend 1 CP and have a place to sleep rent free that isn't the common room at the Guild House".

Though, I guess by that measure, "spend 2 and have a space for a lab" would also apply.  Considering ranks of Guild Membership grant office/lab space (and this is like a membership in the "Junior's Guild", which is small, has no amenities, and a very tiny house).

I would accept 1 pt for "Base" being a room in Junior house, CoL would cover basic repairs and food there. A group purchase like this works, further buy ins would lead to improvement, and pounts spents would yield a deed from the Hadereum. Usually base is a place equal to 2 status rank levels below actual, but a shared base should be incrementally better.

Point was included.
This house has three stories, a sleeping attic that could be divided, a second floor with a rudimentary kitchen, a ground floor that could be a workshop. An herbary lab would need a window, as on the second floir; it could be ourfitted as an herbary and alchemical lab, and a basement that leads to the cult area and bone gate..

If more than 6 points are collectively spent, you can expand to the house next door and get private spaces.

Does the Hadereum regulate property ownership within the city?  I'd think the Baron would have vested interest in property control.

Though if the Hade does regulate property ownership in the city, that's one of the places Jareth needs to go to do some research.

'Base' is the buy-in to ownership of the 'Junior House'.  If memory serves it's a 10 point advantage [1] split among the crew, all of y'all have already chipped in 1 point each (msg #28 for Jocelyn, Brodak, and Mel).  Then there was an additional Advantage called Independent Income we could buy into which would make the House self-sustaining (sort of).

Jareth had to abstain last time, but he'll chip in one point this time.  Maybe 2, not sure if I've really got anywhere else to put the extra points right now.

Sure, I could bank them... but points unspent are points unused.

1 - I'll go thread diving after work/tomorrow and find all relevant info.  Some of it was in my PMs with Narrator.

I think I recall spending the point for Base.  If not, I'll go ahead and do so; otherwise, I'll spend one on the "upkeep" income (don't think I had one to spare for that, last time).  Whatever is left, I'll bank against a future increase in Bow skill (my bread and butter).

Edit: just checked, looks like I've had the "Base" perk on my character sheet for a while.  I'm also "Tax Free" since we brought back a live Saturnine for Hadereum, but don't seem to have the "Independent Income" toward house upkeep.  I'll add that once Jareth confirms the cost and setup.  I don't recall what we were paying the porters, so I'll wait on the arithmetic for the coin.

The porters were prepaid for the day... I think.  Leastwise we all gave Nodwin the coin and he handled the hiring (so at worst they simply haven't been paid yet, but the money is already set aside for them).  I'll skimm the thread for that as well while I'm digging for the Base and Independent Income stuff.

Heh.  Jareth already has the "No Hassles" Perk.  Even though he also doesn't carry a blade, it was as a "just in case it comes in handy" thing (and was 1 pt towards future rank 1).

240$† split 6 ways (Nodwin, Mario, Jovelyn, Brodak, Mel, Jareth) is 40$ each.  Slightly better than one day's pay for a common laborer (and we haven't sold the plays yet or finished running Jareth's errands for more pay!*).

* Jareth still needs to deliver the pair trio of zeds to Bertram at midnight (for 80$) and then sell the bits and pieces to Harbash as worm chow for about 60$ (maybe less as they'll be missing bits).  Maybe... as Jareth kinda forgot he promised them to both Bertram and Harbash...  [innocent whistling]

† Our Narrator isn't counting the $10 bucks (in Jareth's pocket) left from what Rudy paid to have the body moved‡.

‡ Which I was initially not going to bother splitting with the crew, but, eh, it makes the math easier, and plays into Jareth's Laziness...  less math is better math.

If you spent one on upkeep, then you may have hired a servant, who will be
in once or twice a week. She will need $30 when she shows, but will be
reliable and available on a roll of 9. She will clean, cook and be part of
getting this place respectable. If she collectively has 4pts spent on her, she
moves in to one of the other abandoned  buildings in your block and
Contrubutes to the improvement of the neighborhood, but costs $200 per week or $750
per month, and will end up attracting other paying tenants-

Or that was an investment in getting a tenant, from whom you will be seeing $10 a month for a room in one of the other abandoned properties. This will also start attracting more folks.

Okay... as far as I can tell, we've put 7 points into Base/Independent Income (6 into Base, 1 into Ind Inc (Mario)).  Maybe 1 more?

+3  msg #28 - Jocelyn, Mel, and Brodak in for 1 each.
+1 msg #25 - Nodwin in for 1
+1 msg #76 - Mario confirms he went in for 1

-1 msg #91 - Jocelyn not in for 1?

+1 msg #92 - Mario in for 1 on Ind Inc

And I've got 2 into Base from Jareth.  Jareth will be (at some point) claiming the rooms/house directly above the Bone Gate (the better have Nightmares by...  O_o ).

We need 10 in Base to eventually "control the whole block" (we already do, but this is a "and they won't take it away from us/the GM won't give us hassles or induce dreaded plot over it") and 10 in Independent Income to make it "pay for itself" (so it stops costing us money to fix things - though it will take some dosh investment to get there as well).

As far as a servant.  That's a bit of a vanity project eh?  I know, it'll likely help reduce upkeep costs... but... right now I think steering towards getting 10 in Base and at least 5 in Ind Inc should be primary.

I'm still undecided (Player and Character) on whether or not to bring the Bone Gate to the Guild's attention.  Granted Ludlow has seen it... so that ship has likely sailed.

You are obviously not buying true munchkin gear then! DF gear is designed to resolve that issue with great ease! Christine has her eye on armour costing $12k unembellished, and she is a mage!

Spidersilk Clothing, Long sleeves and leggins, DR2 v cut/imp. Based on Ordinary Clothing, Status 0
$120 x (1+99) = $12,000, 2 lbs
Can be worn under other armour without penalty

However, if this in embellished up to the value needed for a 35 point powerstone, and the appropriate magics cast, the cost will be $27,000! Excess funds problem solved!!!

Base [7] [6] (out of 10)
2 Jareth
1 Nodwin
1 Jocelyn
1 Brodak
1 Mellarill
1 Mario

Investment (Ind Inc) [5] [4] (out of 10)
1 Nodwin
1 Jocelyn
1 Brodak
1 Mellarill
1 Mario

Servant (Ally) [0]

So if we eventually each invest 4 points, we can end at 10, 10 and 4.  or we can skip the Servant and end with a 12 point Base and a 12 point Investment?  Not sure how that works...

Which reminds me:  What rules are you using for this 'lair" GM?  The ones in Pyramid 3/86 pg 4?

OK, Jocelyn didn't put any into either as she used her points for spells ... being a woman and a Mage... first things first ;-)

Fixed!  Dang it, every time I read "Mel and Brodak are spending on XXX" I subconsciously add "and Jocelyn" in there.  It's like you three are a team or something...  ;)

I just bought that issue, and I am trying to figure out how to point cost it instead of cash, I am looking as it being a cheap TL4 building, and I am looking at the revenue aspect of it being derived from tenants, or representing decreased cost of living due to ownership. There used to be a 3e way to do this. At the moment, the only "fixture" in your lair is the bone gate access, and the only one I can think of being added, aside from obtaining a meteoric iron holding cell or lockbox, is an area of higher sanctity represented by a small chapel to Nodwin's goddess... which would be finished with a basalt flooring and obsidian altar.

You determine how much it would cost to set-up, then determine what level of Patron has the resources to have supplied it, and that's how many points it costs, as though the building itself were the "Patron" (and if it's just a building, it gets the Limitation:  Fixed Location, -50%).

A 10 point Patron has 1M$ in DF to spend, thus as long as the building is less than 1M$, it's a 10 point Patron (or well, 5 points as it would be just a building).

The whole point of paying for a Base with points is that it doesn't cost PCs anything more after that...  however I can understand that it might.

Sure.  Give me a rough idea of the square footage upstairs (I've got the map of the 'cellar' area), and I can knock out how much it should cost as money or a "Patron".

I intend to look over the issue and see about it myself. It is a 4x4 block of houses, for 12 lots about 4 yards by 6 yards each, of cheap construction, and a central yard that is 8 yards by 8 yards.

Ah, fresh herbs.  Garlic and onions.  Perhaps a hill of squash, if there's a spot that catches the sun part of the day.  Once we can afford a house servant, hopefully we can find one who cooks and gardens.  We might even run some hens in here and have eggs from time to time.

No, don't look at me.  Opening rations is about all my cooking skill, and I have a brown thumb.

Is that an invitation for a new quirky character? I do quirky well. (Or with some other more serious mental issues...hmmm what does that say about me? I don't think I want to know!)

If so, what are the basic details/cps etc for the character?

In reply to Christine Bjorn (msg # 142):

Currently in play are Mellarill, an autistic murdurous archer with a foul mouth and a dog, Brodak the brute. Jareth and Nodwin are played heavily and definitely not up for grabs, likewise Jocelyn.
Points are 125pts to start, but could be customized from 62pt characters with 50-63pt lenses (seasoned is a 63pt outdoorsy lens) I would prefer characters built straight out of DF 15.
Frequent hirelings that could be built up include Francois le Mert and Evain Kalliope, both laborers, Clarence Montague (torchbearer) and Charlene LePoire (guard) known associates include Ludlow the Munificent and Razakeel Shadowcloak, apprentice  wizard and necromancer.
