Entering the guildhall, you come accross  Aemon, the ranking
frontman. He sits at a desk decorated with a carved wooden
sign from the old Rogues' Guild,
Anything that isn't nailed down is mine,
anything I can pry up, isn't nailed down

Behind him on the wall is a newer sign;
All weapons larger than a cubit  MUST be checked or
 peacebonded, staves not included

He prominently wears a gold administration badge marked IV.

Reanna wanders back into the guildhall from her excursion around town. She tips her head in Aemon's direction as she passes, telling him "Good Morning". It didn't matter what time of day it was, Reanna always said good morning, on the premise it was morning some where.

A tall thin man in traveling clothes opens the door and steps through. His dark eyes scan the room, but he smiles at what he sees.

He looks over the administrator and his signs but remains off to the side as the dark haired woman tries to get some business going. Beordir is not sure what business she is inquiring about. I'm sure the Guild handles all kinds.

Given the weight of his purse, that was somewhat the same conversation Beordir was planning to have. He listens quietly so as to not inhibit the flow of any juicy tidbits he could use.

As Reanna was chatting with Aemon, she heard the door open and watched as the stranger entered. She knew several of the members of the guild, but this new fellow wasn't one of them. She gives him a slight nod of the head in acknowledgement of his presence before turning back to Aemon. But before she can speak, the door opens again, and she recognizes Laurence and his guard enter. Another tip of her head, as she speaks, "Seems we have quite the party coming together."

empty bowls  and exiting with stew and bread.

The guildmembers are a mixture of mercenaries, mountbanks,

Glancing towards the Tanned fellow who just commented about work for wizards, Broderick acknowledged his statement with a nod then faced the Ogrekin.  Master... he prompted again hoping the Guilder wouldn't take offence at the fact that he didn't know who the Gilder was. Would you have me take advantage, of what is a friendly matter. Would you be agreeable if we allowed any mages, who are seeking employment, to decide. Towards thin end you present your offer after which I shall do the same. The mages can then inform us of their decision. For the benefits of the candidates, I am looking to engage two casters. Broderic informs as he glances around the room, hoping to determine if there are any other perspective Casters in the area.

"It isn't the competition, but the drama that lies in the nature of their conflict. You see, the human outranks Vilgar, but rank is a polite fiction and its power a conveniently agreed upon lie. In the real world, Vilgar is far more personally powerful, and has the backing of many strong warriors who have great personal loyalty to him."

"If Vilgar decides to push his will and defy the human, the human's illusion of power shatters. He can either try to bring guild sanctions against Vilgar - a risky move that could plunge the guild itself into civil war IF the guild leadership didn't simply side with Vilgar - or back down in front of the crowded guild and lose great respect."

"Vilgar can back away and save face simply by pretending that guild ranking matters. But he has no great incentive to do so. So the entertainment lies in seeing which way the play unfolds. There is no competition, only choices to be made and consequences to suffer."

"I wish life were so simple," Grend sounds whistful. "If it was, Vilgar could simply kill the human and stuff his remains in a bog. But no, in the city it is always complicated. Guilds have... politics. Factions. Vilgar has powerful friends with powerful friends. Webs of alliances, all using their power. But it is a fragile web, and when it collapses?"

He made an explosive gesture with his hands. "Such small incidents are what wars are made of. If the guild masters had to make a choice, it would not be simple, as who is stronger, or more worthy, or higher rank. It would be the politics. Who would stand to gain, who would be offended." He sneered again. "Politics."

He said the word like it was a form of dark magic beyond all understanding. For the orc, it probably was.

"I've got a hunch who we might ask, if she's around upstairs.  Clair the Strong is Urhaqui, and helped us a good bit in the early part of this operation.  I doubt she knows Ganosh directly, but she might well know who does."

"I'm not a boaster.  I claim no superiority for the Unified Art over, say, Smasha -- I've been beaten pretty recently by a Smasha fighter, and I freely admit my vulnerability.  I was simply answering a question.

"In fact, the combination of both grappling and striking techniques could be seen as a disadvantage; training at Gathering Chi Academy takes nearly twice as long as training to the same level of skill in conventional schools.  To be honest, I chose Master Albreth's school because it was close to home.  I consider myself fortunate that such a choice was the right one.

"As for the conflict here, Chye, it arose from a cheerer for an Urhaqui team choosing a goblin quick over all on the team she cheered for.  Yet another case of star-crossed lovers -- but in this case, the Urhaqui team blames all goblins for hiding Glosso and Hramina.  Were I a poet rather than a chi fighter, I might well write a saga after this is done."
