Skirting the hole in the ground Broderick tries to get an angled view of both the spaces above and below the different size grates.

They look connected somehow. Make an IQ roll.

Also, the lower one looks detachable.

Re: Broderick's Expedition

In reply to Broderick Leibert (msg # 958):

These openings look like something came from above and through the floor below, at a steep angle, but what could have ripped through stone in this fashion?

The grates may have been placed due to leaks created by other structures damaged by this.

In reply to Narrator (msg # 959):

Judging by the different sizes of the openings it looks like whatever caused this it was descending at the time. Broderick comments as he peers down the hold, attempting to determine how far down it goes.

Re: Broderick's Expedition

In reply to Broderick Leibert (msg # 960):

Seeing you peering into the dark hole, the sorceress conjures a ball of bluish light about as bright as a torch and sends it through the grate. It illuminates a rough shaft that follows the diagnal trajectory from the upper grate, for about twelve feet, and then continues into a large open area about four yards high, briefly shining on something on the floor below in what resembles an impact crater before suddenly winking out.

Interesting, there appeared to be something shiny below. Lets lower a torch to get a better view of whatever's there.

This is essentially a manhole cover with 1"holes in it. If Margeaux did not cancel het spell, it is very likely that there was a sudden drop in manna below.

Interesting, this could be a one of those stars or part of one, almost hidden here since that time. Its a pity we can't use a spell to lift it from down there. Guess we'll continue looking for a staircase that leads to that level

Re: Broderick's Expedition

Broderic gives the grate a look of disappointment as he considers the situation. With an nod he motions for Margaux, Timeon, Frer Noe and Gaspard to come closer and asks if they would be prepared to venture down the opening to see what they can find. While Carrithers, Clair, Phylicity, Smasher and himself wait here for their return? If they are agreeable they set about removing the large grate to allow the quartet to descend.

Broderick nods at their reply. We'll move on then and continue seeking a ramp or large stairwell which heads down. He states. Leading the team moves away from grates and further along the passage.
