As soon as the party's are set up, Reanna grabs her gear and is ready to go. Except for the small baton hanging from her belt, and the rope she carries, the rest of her gear fits into her pouch.

In reply to Reanna Draegan (msg # 2):

"I got two places in mind for us to check out."

Having just arrived in town, Beordir still had not found a place to stash his pack, so he was still wearing it. However, several things did not need to come with him.

Looking at the big ogre, he asks, "Hey, Vilgar, is there a place we can leave our traveling gear? I haven't gotten a room yet."

In reply to Beodir Nalas-Radin (msg # 4):

"You can stow it with McCain up front."

"Great!" Beordir lowers his pack to the floor and retrieves a pouch from it. Cord and a little food go into the pouch which he attaches to his belt. He drops his backpack behind the desk with McCain and returns to Vilgar.

"All right. I'm ready to go. What's the plan?"

In reply to Beodir Nalas-Radin (msg # 6):

"I got a list of a couple places to check, one of them
We had at before, it was no good as an arena, but there was a place near it by dockside that might do. The second place might gave a connection with a spot we cleared, but it is rumored to be haunted..."

"I'm game for either one, but would prefer the dock," Reanna says uncaringly. "I'm just ready to get moving."

The guild is located near the juncture of three
neighborhoods, the mercantile, the artisinal and redlight districts. Artisinal is largely goblin, redlight mostly orcish, although few in Northport can be said to have no
orcish blood. The site in question is near where artisnal and redlight meet dockside, not far from the landmarks of the Cathedral and the spire of Twilight House.

Dockside is mostly warehouses, although western Dockside is a warren of tenaments and markets and has mostly a Sahudese population.

Reanna follows the group to the entrance, but once there, and pointed in the right direction, she'll head off in front of the group scouting things out.

Not being familiar with the city, Beordir wasn’t sure what to expect. Vulgar had suggested the buildings were abandoned, so he wasn’t too surprised at the building’s dilapidation. He looked up and down the dock they were on wondering about others watching.

Then he turned his attention to the door of the building and looked it up and down.

OOC Not certain where we are. I assume we are outside the warehouse we need to search. He's a Perception roll in that space.

Dockside extends roughly a half mile in from the waterfront.
You are currently about halfway to the docks.  The building you are looking at is not tremendoysly large, but is
definitely run down looking.  The sign is missing, but the
rusted bracket it hung from still protrudes from a beam. It looks like it may have been a tavern, but the window is
boarded over, and the door has a rusted chain and a crude padlock securing it.

"Dis place had some kund of rat problem years back. Another tavern opened up a few streets over, and there wasn't
Enough traffic to make it worth getting it going again."

"Let me try," Reanna says pulling out her picks. Scanning both ways to enure there are no prying eyes, she checks the lock for any traps before getting to work on opening the lock.

The lock had only rust as a complication, and while simple, it takes just a little torque to spring the padlock.

The door shows a couple of nail heads toward the upper corner that are not matched on the hingeward side, a likely sign of a bell being attached inside the door.

Reanna examines the nail heads to see if she can determine approximately how long they've been there. "So, these leftover from the previous owner, or is there someone here who wants to be warned of people entering," she muses out loud. Given the state of the lock, she figured the bell would be from the previous owners but needed to make sure.

These nails look just as rusty as the rest of the hardware.

With hand on door and anticipation in her head, Reanna looks at the others and asks, "Well, shall we see what fortune awaits us?"

The door creams open when pulled,and the rusted bell rattled and scratched. There is a musty smell, mingled with something between a reptilian musk and longdead rodent.

Reanna lets her eyes adjust to the light in the interior of the building, and scanning around to make sure there's no surprises, she slips inside and waits for the others to follow.

The interior is largely one room, furnished crudely wirh trestle tables and benches, and a bar near the fireplace.
The wooden furnishings have a gnawed look to them.

Once Reanna slides through the door, Beordir steps through as well. Now that he is out of the view of the street, he draws his sword. Peering through the gloom, he looks around for danger.

Reanna starts making her way into the building, looking for traps or any other oddities that would give her pause. She scans the ceiling for spider webs, and if they are mostly clear, will look back at the others asking, "Can anyone light a torch?"

Cassile reaches into a pouch, and extracts a glowing clay
 tile on a thong, illuminating  the room as bright as a torch.
He kicks a fist size piece of debris, and it crumbles into
dark powder.

was a rat turd."

With a light available, Reanna pulls out her baton, to use as both a weapon and a tool to push things out of the way, and starts to explore the interior, looking specifically for doors, regular and trapdoors.

Behind the bar, there is a trapdoor that looks like someone has nailed shut with spikes.

Reanna pulls out her file and starts filing the tips of the nails off. If she can file them down enough, they can pull the trap door off.

Beordir watches Reanna work on the trapdoor warily. This is slow work, so he gets bored quickly. As she tires and slows down, he offers to take a turn so the work can continue apace.

Masugatan watches the trap door with great interest, half expecting some demon to spring out of it.  His sweaty palms clench the hilt of his cheap broadsword like it's the only nipple of a particularly juicy cow.

"Nobody brought a crowbar this time round? We gotta
pick one up if we have to hit another spot."

"I never thought to carry one. Breaking and entering isn't my strong suit."

Still working with Reanna, Beordir comments, "I was thinking the same thing. Though my next worry is how we are going to secure this opening if we have to retreat."

As Reanna works away, she just casually shrugs at the comments, saying, "I normally have a crowbar but lost mine on my last run. But there's always a way. Maybe check around the fireplace and see if there are any tools we can use as levers, or whatnot."

"As for retreating, we can pull some benches and tables over to set on top of the door, if we have to leave in a hurry. But it would take more time to put them over the opening than it would take to just get out the front door."

The trapdoor screeches open as Reanna pries up the nails.

"If someone would hold the light over the opening, I'll head on down," Reanna offers.

Once the light is available, she'll scan the area beyond the opening, and if it's clear, she'll go through it and down to the ground level below.

Wary, Beordir crouches next to the opening ready to help haul Reanna back up if she needs to get out. Then he waits nervous for her assessment.

Laurence holds the glowing disk by its thong and dangles it
over the open trap door, revealing  a ladder made of rusty
iron staples descending into the gloom.  From what you can
see, the cellar appears to be fairly deep, and has stone floors covered with debris.
  There is a fsint rustling sound.

Taking her rope and grapnel out, Reanna looks for some place to secure it before dropping it down the trap door. "I'm not sure about that ladder, but it needs to be tested anyway," she explains.

While letting the rope slide through her hand as she descends, she starts heading down the ladder, testing each step as she moves.

In reply to Reanna Draegan (msg # 42):

The grapnel is securable at the base of one of the trestle
tables, or to be sure, in the hearth.

Letting the rope slide through her hand, but available in case the ladder gives out, Reanna will descend until she can see the bottom., or she reaches the bottom of the rope. She wants to make sure there are no creatures, or other impediments, at the bottom before she gets off the ladder.

"Man, that looks deep.  Last time I saw a hole this deep... nevermind."

The rusty staples hold. As you near the bottom, you can hear a faint scraping noise

Not able to see further below, Reanna speaks up to those at the top, "Can you loosely tie the light's thong around the rope and let it drop down to me?"

Laurence's torch bright glowing disk illuminates a swath
around Reanna. This was apparenly the taverns ale cellar,
and the remains of oversize barrels litter the area, which is
 filled with at lwast a foot of debris.
The barrelstaves all look gnawed upon. The air is thick and
 stale, and there is a strong odor of long dead rodent.

There is a rustling sound from the corner of the room, out
beyond the illumination of the disk.

One handed, Beordir starts climbing down the ladder with a bare sword in his other hand. Wary, he keeps looking back over his shoulder into the cellar. He does not climb all the way to the bottom, remaining on the ladder 4 feet above the floor.

As Reanna hears someone else coming down the ladder, she puts the strung light around her next, gets a secure grip on the rope, and pushes away from the ladder. She'll swing over to the wall and cling to it the best she can, keeping the light shining on the floor below.

Several somethings are moving, making a rattling, rasping  sound.  They sound like they are about two to three feet off the ground,  but they are staying out of the kught, whatever they are...

Low to the ground, you can see three pairs of blueish lights,
burning with a hateful intensity. They are staying just out of range of the light.

Reanna holds out the light focusing on the creatures so the others can come down and take them out.

"Not sure. Looks like three bug like creatures of some sort, but can't make out details. If you have a light spell to brighten it up down here, that'd help."

Harlan casts a spell, but gets just a feeble glow that
quickly  fades.
"Sorry, I am better at lightnibg related spells than light.

Beordir shakes his head. "That's still brighter than my lack of light spells. The eyes seem pretty minor."

Still holding on the ladder, Beordir performs some small chanting. Once complete he clambers quickly the rest of the way down the ladder onto the floor, though he shifts around so the ladder is not at his back.

When Beodir gets to the bottom, Reanna leaps down beside him to help defend against whatever is down there. She's not a fighter, but any help will do, so pulling her baton out, she watches and waits for any blue eyes to get close.

"Come on in, the water's fine," she shouts up to those at the top of the stairs.

Reanna readies herself to ward off any of these 'rats' in case they attacked. She would try to defend the mages while they cast spells to kill them off.

The streetmage draws his wand and casts a spell, causing it
 to crackle with electricity.
The quills on the rats look to be slightly greasy.

Masugatan tries to manuever past his companions until he is in front, and then draws his cheap broadsword, while being wary of those quills, which he assumes can be launched as missile weapons.

One of the rat things rushes at Masugatan, and trips on some debris and face plants... one of its quills brushes against his boot, but does not pierce it.

Given the rat is down and not a threat to either of the mages, Reanna stays out of Masugatan's way as he can handle it.

Masugatan feels uncomfortably cold this close to the 110 lb rat.

Beordir steps around the now prone rat and stabs at it with his blade, hoping to keep it from mauling his companions.

Beodif deftly slides his blade between the quills without being scratched, nevertheless, he can feel cold radiating from it. There is a little frost on the tip of his blade when he withdraws  it.

With his electrified baton, Harlan swats at one of the rats,
shocking it, and he manages to evade its quill!

The quill scrapes his arm, Beordir jerks back, then the chill sets into his bones and he staggers back. "We haven't really hurt them at all. Every chill is sapping my strength."

He steps back, trying to maneuver away from the rats.

OOC Move maneuver to retreat some. Not sure what the area layout is like. I might not have much space.

"That doesn't sound good people! What have we got down there?"

"Something's wrong here," Reanna says as she feels her blow strike the rat extremely hard, but seeing no reaction from the rodent.

"We need to get out of here. Take the ladder, I'll climb the rope," she says as she reaches up to grab the rope and scurry up it a short ways.

As soon as he can, Masugatan will take another swing at the low temp mofo who bit him.

The rat thing takes a blow that should have killed it, but it doesn't  go down!  One if its quills  brushes Masugatan's  arm. His armor prevents it from pricking his arm, but the chill of it seeps into his bones,.

"Masugatan, get out of there. We can't fight those things until we know what they are. Our weapons are doing nothing to them," Reanna loudly whispers down to Masugatan. Why she is keeping her voice down, she doesn't know, as she realizes these 'rats', or whatever they are probably can't hear her anyways. At least not in the normal sense.

At Reanna urging, Beordir heads for the ladder, hoping to keep away from these spiky cold horrors as he does so. "We need to get some bows."

After helping the rest of you out, Laurence scratches his chin.
 "Tell me about those things. If I don't know what they are, I  know a guy, and if we need something special, I can ask Vilgar Either that, or we try location two."

Beordir shakes his head, and leans against a wall. "I' don't know. They appeared to be the size of rats. They had eyes, but they didn't seem to be using them."

"I could hit them, but the spikes would also injure me when I did. Just getting close to them was so cold."

"Perhaps a few good crossbows could help here."

At Masugatan's statement, Reanna shoots him a sour look but says nothing. When both Harlan and Masugatan are climbing the ladder, Reanna shimmies up the rope to the top.

Once on top, she pulls out her first aid kit, telling Masugatan, "Sit still a moment." After looking over the wound a bit, she shakes her head telling him, "This is unlike anything I've seen."

Then as the conversation continues, she states, "You can fire some bolts and arrows down at these rats, but I don't think they will do any good. If the hits they were given already did nothing to them, what good would missiles do? We need to find out more information about them and what their weakness may be."

"In the meantime, we can check out that second entrance. We still need to find out about the rats because we'll end up facing them again."

Having said her fill, Reanna stands up and starts dragging some tables and chairs to stack over the trap door. She doesn't think the rats could get through anyways, but this would prevent a normal person from climbing up and pushing open the door.

"They were cold, and did not bleed when struck. They had no eyes, only bluish points of light in empty sockets."

Reanna gets a cold stare in her eyes, one that makes the rats quills seem warm by comparison, as she tells Masugatan, "If you expect me to help you in the future, you need to stop. I'm not interested in you in that way. Not now, not ever."

Turning back to Harlan and the others, "Let's go find this other entrance."

Beordir, swaying on his feet, stumbles a bit as they turn toward the entrance. "Um, I might need a few minutes. That chill really took it out of me."

As he listens to her cruel words, Masugatan's face starts to resemble an infant whose mother had just abandoned him on the steps of a poorly-funded orphanage.  For a couple of seconds he pretends to silently sob, but the routine soon dissipates into a bemused cackle.

Beordir stumbles along slowly to the tavern, trying to control his shivering. Once inside he immediately moves toward the fire, finding a chair nearby. Not sure what Casile has in mind, he just waits, hoping to recover a bit.

I'm down 10 FP. With Fit, I need at least 10 minutes to get above a third. How long have I spent recovering so far?

The two of you head out to the guild.

Reanna follows Laurence as they head to Vilgar's to see if the ogrekin has some weapons that can be used to dispatch the rats. Although short in stature, she is slightly hyper and has to slow down to not get ahead of Laurence.

Once back in the guild, Laurence swiftly locates the ogrekin.
Vilgar raises an eyebrow at your rapid return.
"What happened, the others crap out?"

"They're resting. We ran into some undead rats. Wights from what we were told, and can't fight them with the weapons we have. To even get close to them was very draining as their coldness sapped our strength. "

"We were told we need silver or magic weapons to hurt them at all."

You pass Spielgud's place and turn down a narrow corridor.
He pulls out a key ring and unlocks a heavy door.  Within is a large bedframe
covered with a bearskin, a small keg and
a pair of stacked iron chests. Vilgar
Pulls the top chest off of the other one and takes a key off of the ring with one hand, and a second one from a thong
around his neck, and uses them both to simultaneously unlock the chest.

Reanna considers the items and tells Vilgar, "The bolts and crossbow, short swords, and mace would be fine. I'm not sure I want to risk a possibly cursed weapon when dealing with cursed creatures."

She looks to Laurence to see if he has anything else to add.

Reanna heads over to where the trap door is and lifts it open again. She nocks a silver bolt and looks down into the hole. If she can see any of the rats, she'll aim at one of them for a few seconds. If she can't see them, she'll see if one of the others either has a Light spell, or can break off a chair leg to light and throw into the hole.

Not seeing well enough, Beordir starts climbing down the ladder, but not too far. He crouches near the top looking down, trying to see if there are any maned rats around.

Beordir climbs back up the ladder and sits with his legs dangling over the edge. "It's about time something went right with this whole trip."

He works on pulling the string back to cock the crossbow and nocking a new bolt. Then he turns to look down in the hole again for the rat he previously shot. If it's in sight, he'll aim and fire another bolt at it, otherwise, he scans the floor for another abomination.

Harlan went to the trap door, seeing if he could snipe at the rats without climbing down.

Casting from the ladder is unwise, and you have unleashed a fair amount of electricity on these creatures, while it can injur then, Bertrand the sage says they may only be killed by magical or silver weapons, or by direct sunlight.

With the rat bypassing him in favor of Masugatan, Beordir slides up beside it and stabs it with his newly acquired short sword. He tries to find an angle that allows him to avoid the chilling spines.

Satisfied that no significant injuries occured, Beordir sighs as the last rat goes down. Wrapping his hand, he carefully goes about extracting the used quarrels from the slain rats. After cleaning them as well as he can, he gives them to Reanna for resupply. "I'd use those last as I don't really know if they are still going to fly straight.

Then he looks over at Harlan, "All right. We'll go slow. Please just keep the light a bit ahead of us."

Then he turns down the tunnel from where the rats came from.

Masugatan has a significant injury in his leg, and could benefit from some first aid.

Hearing Masugan complain, Beordir pauses and turns back to the group. As Reanna starts to bandage him, Beordir starts passing her bandages, but doesn't jostle her elbow. "Good to know we have someone to stitch us up. Here's hoping we won't need you more, but I won't hold my breath."

In the firnerbof the room is a low dpor about a yard square that is partlynopen.

Beordir leads the group to within 3 meters of the door. Slowly and carefully, he starts gesturing to get Masugatan toward the hinge side of the door. His hand signals communicate to Reanna to move to the open side of the door, but further back with a line of fire on the opening.

He moves closer to the open side of the door, down to 1 meter, then gestures for Harlan to move the light closer.

Once everyone is in position, he signals for Masugatan to throw the door open.

(OOC 11:08, Today: Beodir Nalas-Radin rolled 14 using 3d6 with rolls of 6,2,6.  Beordir Gesture vs 14.
This is complex. I don't know if the door opens outward or inward, but I want to be closest to the opening, with Reanna's crossbow providing additional cover and Masugatan in position to flank. My gestures apparently communicated effectively, but I'm not sure if my words did)

The door swings inward. Beyond is a narrow corridor, just slightly
wider than the door, and not much higher. It continues out of the range of
Harlan's light spell, and there is a faint hissing noise like the rat things made coming from further back.

"Next time, I'll KICK it open."

Surprise lost and not really needed, Beordir asks, "Reanna, if you can move back to aim through the door, we can get Harlan to send the light down there and pick them off."

Positioned next to the door, Beordir steps out to give cover to Reanna as she reloads. Not willing to leave cover, he prepares to strike once the rat gets within striking range.

"Step back a little so we can both hit it as it comes.", he calls to Masugatan, indicating a position to his right that will form a choke point within the door.

As a dead rat, your opponent is doing a move and attack, and will be flanked by Beodir and whoever steps to the other side, while charging at Reanna. You get the flank bonus to attack, but still need to dodge its quills...

Masugatan can probably throw his mace at it!

Once the crossbow is cocked, Reanna will grab one of the used silver bolts. If she does not have time, she will use it as a dagger rather than reloading the bow, but she will be prepared to do a retreating Dodge if attacked.

The narrow hallway is now obstructed by a quilled corpse.

Beordir looks at the downed creature, then back to Masugatan, "Nice throw. And I don't have to retrieve a crossbow bolt."

He turns to Harlan and says, "Further onward then."

The crossbow is an off the rack  ST 12 crossbow, roll damage.

The silvered mace catches the rat thing square in the face, doing a siseable amount of damage

The archway leads into a dark room that you can feel echoing the faint sounds of scraping. A pair of blue-white sparks of light can be seen  at about eyelevel some distance in.

The thing is definitely damaged, but not to the extend that something struck in the vitals should be...perhaps it is lacking them...
