How liches preserve themselves is a matter for hidden lore.
Marlena did shatter his crown with a spell though.

The body is surrounded by silver and tourmaline fragments, has an inlaid dragonbone wand or rod, a ring and behind the throbe are several large learher sacks...

Kirpich will take the staff or wand, the gems, the ring and the robe and examine them.

[Private to GM: Kirpich rolled 7 under Hidden Lore (Demons), not sure if that helps, but it is also 8 under his IQ.

Edit: Roll is for understanding about the philactery.

In reply to Marlena DuBois (msg # 643):

Liches are known to embed their soul into...something, but there are a variety of things that have been used in folklore, from rooster's eggs to their little finger bone, to their own removed heart. Some use rings, some use swords or necklaces.

Estevan, Estraban or Enterwagin of the burning crown had owned many powerful things, first a staff he made from the bones of the great wym Hernavag, to the rod of the builder, but he was best known for the flaming crown, co named for the stonefruit seed sized tourmalines which ringed it, and the silver spires that rose like flames.

In reply to Kirpich Rockson (msg # 646):

The bags of silver weigh several pounds, and contain thousands of coins.
There is a silver ring set with a large piece of amber, a carved dragonbone rod, and several hundred$ or more of silver and tourmaline  fragments, in addition to a few slightly damaged suits of heavy scale armor, a collection of cheap looking shields and axes, and the three broadswords and the axe that Snorri picked up.

Could use that mule now ... the armor is heavy but certainly valuable. He puts a bag of coin in his back pack and hands the other two to Oren and Danos. He helps to pick up the valuables scattered around and then does a careful search around the throne and then expanding around the room.

Kirpich checks to see if Chunky can wear any of the heavy armour.

"Chunky is currently carrying 90 pounds of stuff, including 10 pounds of oil in two canteens and Stringfellows 17 pounds of stuff, but he can carry up to 180 pounds if the bags holding the silver will hold. How many pounds of stuff do we have here?"

Kirpich has the gems (amber and Tourmaline), ring and rod.[Private to GM: How much do they weigh?]

In reply to Danos (msg # 650):

There are a total of six bags containing about a pound of silver each.

There is a little less than a pound of silver and tourmaline shards.

There is a ring.

There is a fine balanced dragonbone rod.

There are four suits of heavy scale armor.

There is one good*axe. three good* broadswords, one decent looking shortsword and 8 crappy axes, and a smashed suit of scale armor.

There are also six rings found on the dead wights.
