You'd need BIG Rats for a spider the size of the one I fireballed.

No, I think such a big animal would have serious issues chasing such little creatures.

"Brother Edward showed me a spider once that chased its prey and jumped on it, rather than making a web.  He called it a 'wolf spider', not sure whether because it was marked something like a wolf, or because of the way it hunted.

"He said they were harmless, but I don't think I'd like to meet one as big as a dog, never mind as big as that one back there.  Even the ones the size of a thumbnail were fast."

Re: Below Junior House

In reply to Jareth Mooncalled (msg # 889):

The webs are burning away in torch sized holes. It looks like something had forced its way through, but there are a few cross-corridor webs that must be newer. They look like they could support some weight, but nothing as large as the frozen spider. Perhaps more like the dog sized spider. You are finding some bones, of dog sized rats, and also something dog sized that has lots of quills, like the maned rats you fought earlier.

There are also castings from some sizeable centipedes, that might have been a few feet long.

The path ahead is obscured with webbing, and there are some faint scratching noises from an indeterminate distance ahead.

"Oh, yeah.  Above."  Mario expands his scan to include the ceiling, tilting his bow back to keep his own light, at least, out of his eyes.  He adopts a pattern of stepping forward only as he scans the lower angles, so he has at least peripheral view of where he's putting his feet.

Re: Below Junior House

After picking up the lightstone he had tossed earlier, Nodwin puts away his pistol crossbow and pulls out his metal, bladed staff instead.  Making a gesture, the staff erupts in flames.

"Well, if we are going through the webs, maybe this will help clear the way."

Stepping towards the thickest webbing on the path ahead, he starts to slice and burn a route through.

as the web melts away, a number of dog sized spiders can be seen.  They hiss and gesculate, and dart away from the flames.

Mario swings his bow to track the nearest spider until it's clear it's retreating, then returns to his scan, step, scan pattern, following Clarence and Nodwin by a couple paces as they clear webs.

You can see a largish bundle of something in the webs, and a smaller yellowish bundle that is writhing. Several of the smaller spiders are crawling on the large thing.
