"Well then, carry on."
The guardsmen turn away, and the goodwife looks disappointed.

Jareth gives the guardsman and goodwife a jaunty wave, and turns back to Holgien, "So t'en... side door, rear door, front door?"

Mario gets a very, very relieved look, slouches visibly, and lets out a long breath.

"Always a relief when the watch don't have anything to say about what you're doing.  No matter how legitimate it really is."

In reply to Mario Crowfoot (msg # 557):

"Tenure is a wonderful thing. Now come round to the cellar door."

"Okay."  Mario waits for Jareth and the porters, bringing up the rear as the group goes around the house.  He unslings his bow as he steps off.

The laborers unload the bodies, but sre a little creeped out by something on on of the basement slabs- the upper half of something dead, that is still moving against its restraints.

Mario eyes the restraints before approaching the half-thing.

"That's one persistent zombie."

It looks leathery and dry, like it has been dead for a very long time, and it bites at you as you approach. The ones you fought before never tried to bite anything...

"Lively.  Experiment ya?"

"Something recovered from the undercity. Be careful, it bites."

"I think I'll stay well out of its reach.  But that pretty much destroys what the Brothers used to say, that undead were really just living folk who'd been so completely convinced they were dead that they acted like it.

"Pretty sure missing half your body would do more than convince."

In reply to Mario Crowfoot (msg # 565):

"Some are raised by necromancy, Master thinks this one and the others with it were cursed, and can pass on the curse."

Jareth shrugs, "Be an interestin treatise no doubts.  Now, just t'e matter o' four silver an we be on our way."

"So, if we were to encounter one like this, 'in the wild' as it were -- say, arrows in through both eyes into the brain and both legs cut off and it still keeps coming -- besides trying to avoid getting bitten, how would we put it down?"

In reply to Mario Crowfoot (msg # 568):

"I would think the arrows to the eye sockets would do for this type... certain demons might need to be dismembered, but these need to have their heads disabled."

"Heads.  Good to know."

In reply to Holgien (msg # 569):

"Their curse is an infectious one as well... I would advise against being bitten."

"I always try to avoid being bitten.  Even by the cook's cat, or the abbot's dog (the cat was bigger and much more prone to bite).  My preferred method, with undead and such, is to fill them with arrows from as much distance as the situation permits."

"I agree, but on the bony ones a staff works pretty well."  A shrug waggles the upper end of the slung staff.  "I just don't like getting that close, if I can avoid it.  Just a few days ago, I got too close to one of those boom brats, and it sliced my knee -- fair lamed me.

"Thanks to the Hadereum, I'll be back to normal in a few weeks, but I'll keep nasties at a distance any time I can."

"So, Holgien... the matter of four silver?"

In reply to Jareth Mooncalled (msg # 575):

"Oh, of course."
He passes a small pouch to Jareth.
"A pleasure doing business with you."

Jareth tips an imaginary hat to Holgien, "An you."

He turns to the laborers and Mario, "All right t'en, let's be off."



Once outside he asks Evain and François, "You two mind breaking this ya'selves?" as he proffers them a full silver.  "T'e extra be way o' apologizin fer t'e ladder."

"Back to the house?  Or do we have other business to attend?"
